Charger compatibility between newer and older macbooks

I have a Macbook Pro 15'' bought in mid 2011, can i use the old charger of my Macbook Pro bought in 2007 (older generation)?

Standard (non-Retina) 15" and 17" MBP's from 2008 to 2012 and use the 85W MagSafe power brick. Retina 15" 2012 MBP use the newer 85W MagSafe 2 power brick.
So yeah, I believe you're good to go. Just check the wattage on the printed-on specs and that the indicator light works to ensure current flow.

iWeb cannot import published files so you would need rebuild the site.
Yahoo hosting is notoriously poor and their tech support is awful. I would suggest you look for new hosting and start afresh. Some pointers for choosing hosting...

  • Compatability between LaCie and other drives

    Greetings Kind MacAddicts!
I have a 160GB LaCie (Triple Threat?) FW800 external drive and have had no problems. Now I want to expand and daisychain another external drive. Thinking of a Maxtor with FW800 (more bang for the buck) and wondering if there are any known compatability issues between LaCie and Maxtor, or btw Maxtor and the new Intel processors. Suggestions?

Well that drive inside the LaCie casing could very well be a Maxtor drive too :P
Remember LaCie don't actually make Hard Drives, they just put drives from other manufacturers in their external casings and charge a premium.
Yes, some of their designs look nice

  • Compatibility between CS3 and earlier versions?

As the web developer I have Contribute version 3, but some of

In conclusion, are there any backward compatibility issues I

  • Setting up network with newer and older AirPort Extremes

Okay, I thought this was going to be so simple. I have a newer (like a year old - square) Airport Extreme that I have three computers wirelessly hooked up to in the house. Great... so now, I want to hook up the old iMac in my son's room that doesn't have a wireless card to the network. It is too far away to use the ethernet cable into the back of my newer Airport Extreme station so I figured I'd dust off the old saucer type base station, plug the ethernet cable into that in my son's room and then just easily get the old base station to network with the newer one wirelessly.
Not so easy. The newer one has no reference how to make a network with other base stations whatsoever and the old book describes how to with the Airport Admin Utility which is not available to the newer version, just Airport Utility and it does not have the WDA options listed. I tried to extend the network and then Doh! The whole network disappeared.
Is this a compatibility issue with the older and newer base stations? Would it just be easier to put in a wireless card to my very old iMac, if that's even possible? Has anyone successfully networked an old and new base station together? If so how?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the discussions!
When you have an older "g" device (the flying saucer) and a newer "n" device (the square one) in order for them to communicate using wireless only, you must configure both of them in what is known as WDS configuration.
This is a quite tricky setup for most users. The best set of instructions that I've seen for this comes from expert user Tesserax in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2355832&tstart=0
If you elect to try this type of setup, you will probably need to hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the Wireless Mode selection box to get the WDS option to appear. (My guess here is that Apple "hides" it because it slows down the network substantially). But, it's the only way to do what you want to accomplish with and old and new device.
Other options would include the wireless card you mentioned for the iMac. Even better might be a pair of ethernet powerline adapters. One adapter goes near the AirPort Extreme and the other near the iMac. The AC wiring in your home transmits the ethernet signal of the powerline. Works great, almost no configuration required and better than wireless in many cases.

  • Any way to video chat between Messages and older Mac via iChat?

I upgraded to Mountain Lion yesterday and am beginning to regret it - I discovered that I will no longer be able to help my parents troubleshoot their MacBook as they have an older MacBook with Leopard 10.5.8, and their MacBook is not upgradeable to Mountain Lion given its heritage (too old). Prior to my upgrade to Mountain Lion, when they needed help we would both launch iChat and I would ask to take control of their screen.  Their account setup on iChat was through an AOL AIM username.
I looked into whether I could still launch a video sharing session with them using Messages from my end and they using iChat from their end (still with their AOL AIM username) but can find no evidence that that will work.
I am hoping that someone has figured out how to make all this work.  I researched FaceTime and it doesn't appear that it supports video chatting/screen sharing.
My last ditch option will be to see if I can gain access to their machine via internet remote access - but I'd rather steer clear of that.
Anybody know how to make this work - video chat and remote screen control between my Mac running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and remote Mac running Leopard 10.5.8?

Apologies if this is what you linked to... I cannot open the link on my office PC.
Have you tried the ReelPortal app?  This should be able to cover both of your needs: it allows video chat between Playbook and PC, and essentially broadcasts the video chat to a site.  (I have not attempted to capture the broadcast).  It's not the prettiest app out there, but does what you're looking for.

  • Need help with XML Compatibility between CS3 and CS4

I'm not a Dreamweaver guru but I am hoping someone will recognize my issue and be able to provide meaningful feedback.
    Background:
A developer buddy and I are working together to create a new home page for an online retailer that utilizes flash banners.  We're using XML to update the content of the banners.  My buddy is creating the XML file and sending it to me to populate with content (i.e. descriptions, images, image paths, etc.).  He is creating the XML file in CS3 and I am editing in CS4.  Here's the issue:  Whenever he uploads the populated XML file to the server the banners are displayed correctly.  If I take the same file and upload it without editing, it works great.  However, if I open the file, edit and resave before uploading to the web server, the the banners all have extra spaces between each line of content - almost as if it were double spaced.  If you look at the code, the code looks fine.  In fact, the code looks exactly like it did when my buddy sent the file to me.  I believe we have isolated the problem to something weird with my installation of DW.  I have downloaded and installed any and all updates.  Oh yeah he's using a MAC version and I am using the PC version of DW.
Has anyone seen anything like this before???
    Help...

    Thank you for your response.
The code is listed below and to tell you the truth the following code is both good and bad.  As I mentioned before, if my buddy sends me this xml file and I upload it to the server, it works fine.  If I open the file and immediately save it without making any changes then upload it, I experience the previously described promblem.  It's very strange.  The code in both files is identical.
To get a clearer picture of what I am describing, go to http://www.everythingministry.com/beta3.htm.  The book descriptions appear correctly under the "New and Recommended" tab.  However, whenever I edit any one of the six xml files that control the content for each of these tabs it ends up looking like what you currently see under the "New Music" tab.  I have actually tried to update from 2 different machines running DW CS4.
Below are the xml files for the two tabs I referenced in the paragraph above:

I would prefer MobileMe but have not been able to use that to sync notes.  So - I use itunes and check "Sync notes" under Other in the Info tab

If you are basing your conclusion that their are freezing, or other problems with the Macbook Pro on what you read in the help forums I think you have reached an incorrect conclusion. If you reached a conclusion on the health of Americans based on only visits to a hospital emergency room you would conclude that everyone is in poor health.
There are many thousands of Macbook Pro users who do not experience freezing problems. You never hear of these users as they do not post in these forums (they do not visit the hospital emergency room).
Wait for what? If you want a Macbook Pro, or any other computer, now is the time to buy. Unless you think there will be Christmas discounts coming. But your employer is buying the laptop so price should not be a concern.

  • Battery compatibility between X31s and X61s

    Hi!
I own a X31s and X61s, and would like have a spare battery handy for travel. Before placing the order, I am wondering if the following battery can be used on both:
    * ThinkPad X60s Series 4 Cell Slim Line Battery
It is not cheap, so I would like to think twice before buying. Somehow I cannot find any information on the compatibility issue. Thank you for your help!

    jennyumaa, welcome to the forum,
unfortunately the batteries are definitely not interchangeable between X31 and X61 systems.

  • USB Flash Drive Compatibility between Mac and PC?

    Hi,
I own an iMac 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM and just got a new job where I'm using a PC. At work they all use flash drives to transfer data back and forth to computers etc. Would a flash drive (let's say a Kensington since that's the brand I've seen the most at work) that works in a PC at work be compatible with my iMac at home. I know Kensington makes them compatible for Mac and PC but just wondering how the data would transfer onto my Mac. Is it readable, does it depend what I'm transferring over?
    Message was edited by: spiralgirl

    {quote} guy there said they haven't yet perfected the flash drives to switch between Mac and PC and work well so I was a little surprised at this. {quote}
That is pretty much a standard reply you get from someone that doesn't know anything about macs. I've used those things for years without any problems, but I have been using my ipod as a disk lately because I always have it with me. It's also another less thing I have to buy and carry around.

  • Differences Between New and Old iPhones

Other than data connection speed, is (are) there any real big difference(s) between first and second generation iPhones? Are there any apps that won't run on my first gen (which is up-to-date with version 2.1) phone? I'll eventually upgrade, but I'm recently retired, and trying to take it easy on my wallet, plus I'm real happy with my current phone, so later is preferable to sooner in doing so.
One specific area I have a question about is "built-in" GPS function. Am I right in thinking it is the same on both old and new phones, as long as both are running the version 2.1 operating systems? Will any add-on hardware modules (either currently or being) designed to provide "true" GPS navigation by attaching to the 3G phones connect/work with 2G models as well?
Thanks in advance for your help/advice.

The first generation iPhone you're referring too doesn't have a GPS chip at all. Instead the 2g relies on using cell phone towers, (3 to be precise), to triangulate your signal and estimate where you are based on that. While the 3G GPS is far from perfect in location tracking itself, it is in theory far more accurate than cell tower triangulation. You will also find that most of navigation apps available in the app store will specify that they're designed for the iPhone 3g as it has a GPS chipset and the 2g version doesn't.
I hope this helps clear it up for you

  • Compatibility between Yosemite and Photoshop / Bridge CS5.

I am concerned about the possibility of incompatibility between Yosemite and Photoshop / Bridge CS5 so have delayed updating my Mac. Has anyone updated, experienced problems and found solutions? What does  Adobe have to say in this regard?

I'm not sure I know enough to answer the question.
The images are on my G5 on a second internal hard drive (not the boot drive).
They are in a folder with a lot of images from the same shoot.
That folder shows up in the Library in Aperture, also. I think I imported them. But, as best I can tell, they do not "only exist in Aperture" because I can see them, and their .xmp files in the original file on the second internal hard drive.
Thank you so much for trying to help.

  • Issue with VPN compatibility between 2811 and 2911

         hello
I would like to ask anyone have had any issues with setting up a VPN tunnel between 2811 and 2911?
The IPSec VPN is established but for some reason I cannot ping the LAN side to the other LAN side of the other end of the VPN Router?
Any experience would be much appreciated
    Thanks

IPSec VPN can be with no problem set up between any cisco routers (and not nesesserely cisco),  so there are should be no issues in your case.
If you say that tunnel is established successfully, then problem most probably related to routing issues between sites or incorrect crypto-acl configured. Check if hosts on both sites have correct routing information on how to get to subnets on the other site.
To make more accurate assumptions it would help if you provide config on both sites and describe your topology.
