Charger Cord Melting

I got an iPhone 3Gs a couple of weeks. I normally charge it by using the included USB cord connected to the AC plug that also came in the box. 2 days ago I noticed that the plug was melted where it connects to the bottom of the phone. The plastic had actually melted back and turned brown.
I connected another cord that I have and it has worked well since, but seeing that was a little disconcerting. 2 things I am wondering:
1. Has anyone else had a problem with this happening? and,
2. Will the Apple Store replace the melted USB cable?

Actually, the day I posted that issue an Apple rep contacted me, arranged an appointment at the Genius Bar for the next day and they did exactly that. They also ran tests on my phone and said it was fine. Good service!
Still don't know why, but at least they resolved it quickly.

  • Charger cord and macbook plastic question

First question. My charger cord seemed to get pretty hot near the connector and slowly split and melted, revealing a bare wire. Now the connection is getting flaky and I have to keep it in a certain position to keep it working. I had it replaced before, so I went into the apple store and tried to have it replaced again but was told to buy a new one as my warranty was up (which is odd because my warranty was up the last time I had it replaced). Is it safe to continue using it?
My second question is about the plastic on the MacBook. Over time a bit of the plastic has broken off the edges. I was told this was a common problem with plastic MacBooks. The person who uses it the most says she is getting shocked by the places where the plastic is missing. I don't know whether this is electricity from the laptop or just static. She says it's most commonly the a spot above the screen and sometimes to the lower right of the keyboard. Is there any way to cover these up?

  • Charger cable melting!

I've had my Macbook for about 2 1/2 years now. A few weeks back I noticed that the green light at the magnetic end of my charger cord wouldn't really stay lit all the time, and sometimes it wouldn't work at all. It never affected the actual charging of the computer, so I ignored it.
Now, I notice that if I have the Macbook plugged in at the same time that I'm using it, the charger (the magnetic piece) gets extremely hot, and has even caused the cable to start to melt, exposing the wires in the cable. The macbook also makes a weird whining noise if it's plugged in and open that I've never noticed before. I taped it up with electrical tape, and it seems to work fine as long as I'm not using the computer while it's charging.
Anyone ever heard of this or had it happen? It's no longer under warranty. I'm considering buying a new charger, but if it's a problem with the Macbook and not the charger, I don't want to waste the money.
Will I just have to put up with it? Charge it only when it's closed/off?

*STOP USING IMMEDIATELY, THIS IS A FIRE HAZARD.*
take the charger to the nearest apple store if you can. some of the magsafes are prone to this, you may get it swapped out anyway, esp. if you "mention" that pics "may" wind up on the interwebs

That is definitely odd, grantcool. Let's help restore this important data transfer feature. To confirm, when you connect the USB cable to your phone and computer > Pull down the Notification Bar > Select USB Connected > Can you choose Media Sync (MTP) ?

  • My iPad air won't charge.  I have used both the charge cord that came with it, and a second that I bought at the Apple store.  I have used both the charger that came with the iPad, and others that are working with other iPads.  It charged yesterday.

My iPad Air will not charge.  I have used its original charge cord, and a second Apple lightning cord.  I have used the original charger and others that I have confirmed do work.  It charged yesterday, no problem.

Before going to the Apple store carefully examine the lightning port to make sure no fuzz or other foreign stuff has gotten in there. There are not that many things that can prevent an iPad from charging. You've tried a different cable, different charger and hopefully the reset suggested by Barry in the previous post. Check for debris and if the port is clear Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • Does the one year warranty that comes with my phone cover the charging cord ?

I have an iphone 4S and the charging cord that came with the phone has stopped working. I was wondering if the one year warranty that i have for my phone covers the charging cord ?

if the cable is damaged you will need any way another one, so call Apple and ask for replacement and in case they recieve the Cable and they find out that it's covered they will bill you and then you will see that the deposit is less expensive then to buy new Cable

  • In IOS 7.0.3, it no longer lets me use non-apple charging cords.  Did this happen to everyone?

In IOS 7.0.3, it no longer lets me use non-apple charging cords.  Did this happen to everyone?

The fix is to log into your current account. Go to appleid.apple.com and change the primary email and apple id back to the old email address (doesn't matter if you have it any longer). Once the change is made, then enter your password for that account on the device. Once you get in, go ahead and go back to appleid.apple.com and change it back. That fixed mine.
need to edit this to clarify a bit

  • I just got a new ipod 5 and when I plugged in the charging cord that came with it, it says it is not supported, and may not charge. It worked the first few times, but now it won't charge at all.

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. The cable as well as the iPod, is covered by the warranty.

  • Ipod has itunes symbol on screen and charge cord but won't allow me to get on screen.

I went to restore my Ipod to original setting and after it turning off and coming back on, It shows itunes symbol and white charge cord coming up from bottom and it wont allow me to get off that screen. Even after turning off and back on. As well as it won't allow me to sync any of my music before or now. It says, no device detected or connected. Please help...

    - The iPod's screen is telling you you need to connect the iPod to the computer and restore via iTunes.
    - Try rebooting the computer and resetting the iPod and then restoring.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Next see if placing the iPod in DFU mode will allow a restore

  • HT201302 The USB cord needed to transfer photos from my iPhone 5 to Windows XP has nothing to do with the charger cord, which appears to be an USB cable, but is not?

The USB cord needed to transfer photos from my iPhone 5 to Windows XP has nothing to do with the charging cord which appears to have an USB 'end', but apparantly is not, as it will not fit into any USB port on my PC?

An iPhone 5 comes with a single cable. It is a USB to Lightning connector cable that is used for charging, for syncing, and for transferring photos from the Camera Roll to your computer. There is no separate cable for charging.

  • Bought a used Ipod touch 3rd gen for my child and when charged I get a screen with a picture of a computer charging cord with an arrow pointing to a music symbol.  What do I do to get it to work?

I've plugged it into the computer and nothing happens...nothing changes....the screen still has a pic of the computer charging cord with an arrow pointing to a music symbol at the top of the screen.  I can't seem to get it to do anything.

    For how to restore see:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
