Charger gets really hot. Is this normal?

Hey,
When I use the wall charger (stock that came with the phone), it gets really hot (about 160 degrees Fahrenheit) when it's been plugged in for a while (i.e. when I charge my phone from about 50% or below to full). This has been a problem since I bought the phone (4 months ago). Also, if I smell the USB ports on the charger when it's hot, I can smell a faint "short-circuit smell." Is this normal, or should I try to get a replacement charger from Verizon?

Whenever i play dota 2 my macbook pro gets really hot. is this ok?

I just recently got my macbook pro 13 inch with normal factory specs. i downloaded steam and got dota 2 which is btw a really fun game. but whenever i play it, about 10 minutes in my computer starts to get really hot on the bottom. it gets hot to the point where if i put my hand there to see how hot it is, it starts to burn and actually hurt my hand and it doesnt feel good to keep it there long lol. but im wondering if this is normal and if its ok to keep playing? When it gets that hot it makes me want to stop playing because i dont want to progressively fry the components overtime as i need to keep this computer for a long time. i almost forgot to mention that im playing on pretty settings as far as graphics. i have alot of things turned off including shadows and antialiasing and other stuff that i really dont care about and the game still looks great but the computer still gets really hot. any help would be appreciated and thank you!

The Mac will shut down if the thermal parameter is exceeded (I don't know what that is). However, if it was me, I would stop playing the game.

be careful how you wind up your cable when done, almost ALL such occurances are due to haphazard winding up of the charging cable.

Use it and keep it on when it gets very hot take it to your local Apple Store you might be successful and receive a new one, because the unit has to have some type of defect. Take your receipt if you still have it.

If not, I would recommend you make an appointment at an Apple store and bring your phone & its charger in to be examined and to determine if they need to be replaced.

I actually have this problem with an old iPad. I have used it for over 3 years, and in the last few weeks, both my wife's iPad and mine have started getting very hot during extended use. I don't see anything in the discussion, but is this a function of IOS 8.0.2, rather than dependent on the iPad? I cannot say for sure we noticed it right at the time we did the OS upgrade, but it seems like it was about that time. Just to be really clear, the heating is recent behavior. Really hot, as in too hot to touch? Have you tried a reset, or a restore on the device. You need to do those things before you take it to Apple for evaluation. It is Apple's decision if it should be replaced.

I had same issue, apple give me a new phone, they say it might be software problem, but the 2nd phone has fast drain too, I took it to apple , they restored my phone as new, and iCloud backed up my contact. I thought about the whole thing, I used to sync it to my window, but this time I synced it with my Mac. 87% at 3:30pm. I think that window has bugs. It is not my iPhone 5's problem. Likely that the battery is dead. I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store to confirm. Apple will replace the battery for this price:

Give Allan's advice a try. I'm curious to see how that works for you.
4GB RAM could be part of the issue. Open Activity Monitor, select System Memory and see what it says for Page ins, Page outs, and Swap used.
Perian isn't a necessity, but those three together usually cover all the different formats you might encounter.
