Woke up this morning to a dead iPhone 5s. Finally plugged it in and got it to power on only to be greeted with a message saying "Charger not supported". No worries I have 5 genuine apple chargers and got the same message form each of them. prior to this there has never been an issue charging my device. Come on Apple whats up with your product not working with your chargers. Thank you for an expensive non charging brick.

You're not speaking to anyone from Apple by posting here - we are all just users like you. That being said, you should try cleaning the charging port with a wooden toothpick. You'd be amazed at the lint and gunk that gets built up in there that you cannot see by looking in. Also inspect the area for bent or missing pins.

I'm having trouble with the wi-fi synch for iTunes and would be happy if I could just synch by the USB cable. With the new iOS, the connection to iTunes seems to get broken every time the dreaded "charging not supported with this accessory" appears, which is only a few seconds into the synch. Since my PC is obviously not an Apple brand charger, IPod won't stop producing this message. Using the Dismiss button doesn't resolve the issue because synch has already stopped. It looks like the hardwire to PC option is now dead.

Intermittent problems with iphone 3g "charging not supported"

I notice quite a few complaints about intermittent 'charging not supported' messages.
I have been getting the same message on my iphone 3g.
I have ELIMINATED the cord and plug as the problem in this case by the following method:
I found that by LOWERING the line voltage to the charger with a variac, I could get rid of the message RELIABLY for a period of time.
By turning the variac off and on, and by varing the voltage setting, I can reproduceably get either charging or 'charging not supported'.
Since there are no changes being made in the connections to the phone and charger, I eliminate them as causing to the problem.
I suspect a deteriorating component in the charger is reporting some kind of error to the phone via some communications channel.
I have not tried opening the charger, but if and when it finally dies, I will do so.
This morning, the charger worked with the variac set to 80 volts.
Anyone on the design team around that can suggest other tests?

The unit finally failed and I opened it up. It appears to consist of an AC-->dc converter with suitable filters and regulators and a small computer that probably talks via I2C or a similar protocol to the iphone.
I suspect that components are defective and the output voltage is outside the range it thinks it should be or some problems with the communications cause it to send an erronious message in response to the query sent by the iphone. I did NOT see any obviously bulging electrolytic capacitors, but I did not test for high ESR and I suspect that is the problem.
A 'off brand' AC Charger of iPod and iPhone from Radio Shack works fine while BOTH authentic APPLE iphone 'tiny cube' chargers are going for recycling.
Software fixes may cause the iphone to either keep trying until it gets the right response or ignore the erronious responses.

- Try restoring the iPod, first from backup and then try to factory settings/new iPod to rule out a software problem.
- Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, foreign material and broken or cracked plastic.
- Could you have damaged something when you took the iPod apart and replaced the Home button?

Hi, I have 3109 & have just tried to charge & getting a message "charger not supported"?? Can anyone help??

but still, why would they release some in one format and some in another in a completely random order? it's the same podcast, and the ones thats dont wotk on my phone, do work on my ipod. so why is that?

I am a long-time Apple user, and feel like I know my way around the basics. I'm afraid I have a confusing/frustrating issue and don't seem to be alone. I have a third generation iPod touch. It's about 18 months old, and does not see heavy use. It used to connect, and charge, without any problem to a Logitech Pure-Fi Elite speaker system, an FM transmitter/charger I use in my car, and a couple of portable chargers with USB ports that I use for traveling in addition to my laptop. I recently acquired a new MacBook Pro running 10.6.8. To stop the constant iTunes upgrade requests, I went ahead and ran the update. Since then, I get the "Charging not supported..." sign, with every device, though I finally got it to connect to my laptop yesterday. It will no longer accept a charge through the Logitech system, and in fact stops sending music signals after half a song when docked, and will not play through the auxiliary output at all, though it will still play through headphones, at least the scrap that I did try in my attempt to troubleshoot it. It will not charge through the car system any longer. Either there is a terrible coincidence of software upgrade and hardware failure, or somehow the software is screwing up the processes that worked fine before. I have to say, Apple upgrades often seem like more trouble than they are worth. There is always something lost when these 'improvements' are made. I am not happy.

Did you look to see if there is debris or dust causing the problem? Get a flashlight and take a look to make sure.
Is there something in the USB end of the cord perhaps?
You didn't answer this question ....Are you using the charger and cord that came with your iPad?
You could try changing cords if you have another one available to see if it is the cord. Have you tried connecting to your computer to see if you get the same message?
You could try a hard reset by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears, let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. Then try the charger again.

Help and advice please.
I am having problems getting the new IPad to charge at all and sometime it displays this message.
' charging not supported with this accessory'. This message is appearing occasionally on my 5 week old new iPad (3) within a few minutes of plugging it in. :( It is also not charging after this message appears. I am using the supplied wall socket and cable. I am also having problems getting the iPad to charge at all even if the message does not show. This is frustrating me no end. I expected a reliable device given the amount I paid.
I am so disappointed, frustrated and feeling some what angry.
I rang Apple support today (twice) and it made a liar of me working just fine for few minutes the first time then again failed, then for hour or so after the second call seemed to work just fine. Now it is not charging, and won't charge despite repeatedly unplugging and repluging, Switching off the iPad and turning it back on etc etc.
I am not happy at all!

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). Why is iphoto not supported from ios8 anymore?! I put alot of work in slideshows and now i cant use them anymore?! That really makes me angry, why are u keep making it worse and more complicated than it already is with every new update!

Making iPhoto run on iOS8 would have required to a major upgrade and rewriting of code, since the the parts of iOS that support image processing changed considerably. Apple decided to release a new Photos.app to replace iPhoto instead of upgrading iPhoto. See this help documents:

My iPad has an error that says "charging not supported by this accessory"

I have an iPad 4 and one day I went to plug it in and the charger wouldnt connect. I went and bought both new peices of the charger, still doesn't charge. When i just leave it plugged in it pops up an error of " charging not supported by this accessory." Does any one have a remedy for this problem?

Yes, i have also tried connecting it to my computer, it also pops up the same error. When its plugged into the wall the whole screen turns black and a yellow triangle with the exclamation mark pops up. When i plug it into the computer with the apple cord a little blue box ( in the middle like the apple id password box) pops up.

Charger Not Supported, Subsequent Death

I started re-using an old 2323c I had in the house after losing a previous phone. It's only temporary. Anyway, it was working fine, but it ran out of battery and when I plugged in a charger I got the 'Charger Not Supported' message. I tried another charger, same thing. However, I turned it off and plugged it in again, and it started charging while the phone was off. After about 45 minutes of charging, the battery symbol disappeared and the screen went blank. Now, the phone won't turn on full stop. It will randomly charge for a minute or two when I plug it in now.
Is this a hardware issue? The phone has never been used, it was a backup phone sitting in a drawer for a year or so. Is there anything I can do? I know it probably needs repair or something, but I'm planning to get another phone at the end of the month so I don't want to bother with that. Any other solutions besides throwing it a wall? Thanks.

Remove the Battery for a couple of minutes, insert and see if the phone switches ON ..Only other thing you can try is try another Battery to confirm its not related to a dead battery (though it showed charging...) as the phone was idle for such a long time ...

After firmware update "charger not supported"

Hi. On Saturday I updated the firmware on my 5310 XpressMusic, to v10.17 I think.
Since then it has been unable to recognise my battery charger. I get the message
"charger not supported". This is with the charger that came with my phone (AC-3E),
which worked fine before the update. I also borrowed a friend's charger, same
problem. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Right now the battery is run down,
and I'm in Spain, so having a working mobile would be nice...

Either I miss the point, or... what exactly do you believe will you "achieve" after doing the firmware upgrade?
I don't see any reason for you to upgrade your firmware as you didn't have any issues with the old firmware.
Firmware upgrades are there, to make the devices more compatible to computer, that HAVE problems with the current Firmware-version. This is not your case. Ask the (hopefully still) friendly Toshiba service to replace you the drive one more time, and keep it the way it is given to you without rendering it useless again.
Maybe there is a wrong link on the website which is making you download a wrong firmware (different model-version Firmware). Although you believe to download the correct firmware, you finally download a wrong one.
Usually Firmware upgrades, that make your drive useless are not covered by ANY warranty. You were lucky to have it replaced the first time,... hope you will continue having this luck.

I buy another cable and use for my iphone 5s after i plug in to my iphone the screen show "charging not supported with accessories and device. I also change to original cabel and it still show that message again. Can anyone help me about tthis matter??i still cant charge my phone right now..

Clean iPhone charging port with clean dry toothbrush. If still problem, iPhone 5S has Warranty, make Genius reservation or set up service and take or send iPhone, Lightning Cable, Wall Adapter to Apple for resolution.
