Charger port is loose?

Hey,
I'm not sure if this should be in this thread, so sorry if it's in the wrong place.
My charger port in my laptop has came a little loose, I had to shake the charger a bit as I plugged it in to get the light to show it was charging. I plugged it in this morning and it won't charge anymore but I'm being very confused in that it says it's not charging but the battery life has gone up 30% since I turned it on.
Does anyone know the best way to go about getting this fixed? The quicker the better if possible, I have a lot of my final college stuff to be done soon and I can't really afford to have my laptop away for extended periods of time.
Cheers

This is not ciovered by warranty and the only fix HP would know to do is to replace the motherboard at a cost of about $400. If you are still getting a trickle charge you can likely use the laptop for a while yet. Just keep it plugged in all the time and keep the battery as charged as possible. When your college finals are over you will want to take it to a local computer shop not one of the big box stores and ask if they know how to resolder the AC adapter port module. There is at least one shop that can do it in any major city. The cost is likely to be about $100-200. There are also internet services but sending it out would mean you were without the laptop for at least 3 or 4 days if not longer.

  • Phone wont charge.....charging port is loose

So, this is my 4th phone and am now waiting on the 5th relpacement.   Each phone has had the same issue where the charging port is loose and then the phone wont hold a charge.    I took to verizon store at lunch today and the saleswoman said that she hadnt heard of this issue with these phones.   I asked her to replace with something equivilant that would not have this issue and of course was told that verizon could not do anything for me but order yet another replacement.    now have to wait two days for a replacement and this is my sole phone that my kids use to call me on.   The phone will die before the end of the day and I am out of luck.   I am frustrated by the way that verizon did not really want to work with me and I am over having to replace the phone ever 2-3 months.
Is there a fix short of replacing.....and is this a known issue with these phones??

Temp fix is a do it your self deal. 1. Power down phone. 2. Using as fine point machinist or eye glass screw driver or needle tip, (Razor blade works good) squeeze the female port together from around the outside edge making the hole more tight. Do not try this with a loved one, phone only. It will work for a few more day till you get the new one. Do not tell Version you did this as they will have an excuse to denies responsibility for replacement or repair.

  • Not Charging, possible loose charging port.

    I have a 2007 Toshiba Satellite laptop.
I believe that my charging port is loose and I'm just wondering if I can open up the back and tighten it or something?
It plugs in but does not charge and the charging port in the computer wiggles around.
    Is there a fix?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Dozib,
There's a "Resolving issues" section in this article which has some additional steps to try.

    Resolving issues
If your battery doesn't charge, or if your device shows a low-battery image, black screen, or "accessory not supported" alert, follow these steps.
Inspect the connector at the bottom of the phone:
Make sure that there are no bent pins in the connector.
Make sure that the connector is free from debris.
If there are bent pins or debris, please contact Apple Support.
        Otherwise, continue troubleshooting.
Make sure that the outlet you're using works.
Make sure that the Apple USB cable and Apple USB power adapter work.
Plug the device in to power and let it charge until your device turns on. This could take between 10 and 30 minutes. If you don't have an Apple USB power adapter, try connecting to a computer's high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be on.
If the device still exhibits an issue, try turning your device off and then on again while connected to power.
If the issue persists, please contact Apple Support.

  • Loose magnetic connector/charger port......?

Hi, i have had my phone for about 7 months now. It's well looked after and has never been dropped or put in any water, thankfully. However I have just noticed that my magnetic connector/charger port seems/is loose. It's something that I don't use at all.
The other night i t just appeared to be sitting out further at one end so I pushed on it and it moved quite a bit. The other end doesn't move at all.
Has anyone else had this issue?

  • Iphone 4 charger port loose???

my charger port seems to be loose as when i try charge the stupid thing i have to wiggle it until it makes a noise to say its charging. is this a well known thing or just my load of rubbish phone

take it in and get it looked at. have you tried a different cable?

  • Can a USB charging port be replaced?

I have a Samsung charge. If I plug in the USB charger, the phone goes blank and freezes. This occurs even if the charger is not connected to power, so I suspect there is a loose connection or unseated port. If I remove the battery and replace, letting it reboot, with charger plugged in, it will show the battery status bar as not charging. I carry 2 extra batteries with me, checked the other 2. Sames issue, so I doubt it is the battery.

If the phone is still under warranty, you should check into the possibility of a warranty replacement. If it's no longer under warranty, it might be worth contacting a cell phone repair shop to see if replacing the charging port is possible. If they can replace it for a reasonable cost, it could solve your problem. Of course, be sure it's a reputable shop.

  • V5 572 Charger port broken

Hi All, UK owner here. I've had my V5-572 for a couple of months now, but this morning when I went to plug my laptop into charge, I noticed that the connection was physically very loose, it used to 'click' in but now it can easily just fall out. Also, I have to wiggle the charger around to get a good electrical connection and get the thing charging. By eye, it looks like it's the thin metal pin on the laptop inside the charging port that is off-centre and could be almost snapped off. Obviously this is not ideal, does anyone know if this is covered in my warrenty and if so, how long does the repair process take? Thanks a lot.

  • Droid incredible 2 faulty charging port

I have a droid incredible 2 and have seen numerous posts on this website and on HTC's regarding a faulty charger port and wanted to hear of how people had this issues resolved or not.
Verizon, HTC, and PCD the company that repairs these phones for Verizon or something....all told me "unfortunately that isn't a KNOWN issue with this phone"? and that they are unable to help me unless I just buy a new phone at phone price. Are you serious? How many people have wrote on this forum and HTC's forums about this same exact issue and they want to act like its the first time theyve ever heard about it when I call. Seriously disappointed with the lack of customer service so far on this matter. How can you flat out lie about a problem so commonly discussed?
I am out of my 1 year time frame...but this is still a widely experienced and discussed problem on this phone. A problem is a problem, its not our fault that this port is bad on these phones. Mine just happened to take a little bit longer to surface and I don't think we should be responsible when something happens this way.
I bought a new car charger, wall charger, and even an extended life battery just to be certain it was the port itself. The phone charges 1/5 times that I try, and if so its barely significant.
Has anyone had experience getting their phone exchanged if it was after the 12 month mark?? What should I do. Thanks for any advice.
(In the future I will buy the insurance but I will never buy an HTC phone.)

First all, give it a little bit more time to charge.
If it still doesn't work, make sure the charger is not bad. The phone can be charged either using the wall charger or by plugging the USB cable into your computer. So first test both charging methods. If neither works, I say take your phone to a Verizon store and ask them to charge it using their charger. If they can charge it then likely your charger or USB cable might be bad. If they can't charge either then something is wrong with the phone or the battery.
Now about the loose charge port, one  likely cause is the black frame around the port that is making noise. I know that because I had the same problem and I took my phone to the store and asked them to show me another brand new phone and it had exactly the same problem. If you open the back cover you can see why. This problem shouldn't affect anything other than being annoying.
Edit: Didn't see your edit about light blinking when I wrote my reply. Could it be battery overheating? Or could it be bacause your phone is turned off while it's being charged. I have seen in other forums that people were saying it blinks if the phone is turned off or the battery is nearly dead.

  • Verizon Galaxy Nexus - Defective Charging Port

Bought my Galaxy Nexus in April of 2012, along with insurance on the phone. Love the phone and the pure Android experience. However, back in February, I woke up one morning and noticed that even though my phone was plugged in, the battery was not charging. I tried using different cords and my spare battery, neither fixed the issue, which meant that the charging port on the phone was defective. I brought it to a VZW store, and since the issue occurred within a year of purchasing the phone, they sent me a certified pre-owned galaxy nexus as a replacement (They had to send me three replacement phones total because the first two would not boot properly, but that's a different story.)
So here I am, 5 months later, and I woke up one morning and discover the same issue. Phone is plugged in (using the original charger that come with the original phone by the way), but it is not charging. Won't charge with a different cord, won't charge with a different battery, which means that the port is defective. I take the phone to the Verizon store, and am informed that A) my year-long warranty has run out, so if I want to replace the phone I will have to pay full retail price for it, and B) The default insurance plan on these phones only covers cracked screens or lost devices. The VZW support rep actually suggested that I damage the screen on the phone before sending it to the insurance company, because otherwise they would send it back and refuse to replace it.
So to recap, Verizon sold me a defective device, replaced it with another defective device, and now in order to fulfill the remaining nine months of my contract with them, I will have to purchase another device at full retail value. That's $600-$700 I'm expected to pay just to continue adhering to the terms of my contract. For now, I went on amazon and bought an external battery charger which I now have to carry with me at all times, which is an unacceptable solution for the next nine months. Surely there has to be a better option?

This is the same problem I had in the past and Samsung fixed the phone
under warranty. Since a warranty is only 1 year and not the length of the
contract it doesn't help anymore.  I do not have insurance and the phone
has never been wet.  I have to wiggle the port or reset something on the
connect to have it charge properly.  Verizon was unwilling to help me the
last time I had this issue since I purchased the phone new from Amazon.  I
would appreciate it if you could help.

  • My iphone 5 will not charge? i noticed it was taking a few attempts to charge since i installed ios7,but recently it stopped working all together i though it may be the charging port so i have had that replaced but that still hasn't worked

my iphone 5 wont charge? I started to have difficulties charging it when I downloaded ios7 and over time it started to become more and more of a problem, then yesterday I thought it might have been the charging port so I got that replaced but it is still not charging. even with both of my chargers and a friends charger it didn't charge, does anyone have any idea what might be the problem? if its ios7 or the hardware? and what should I do i am still within warranty but I'm not sure if that still counts since it has had a part replaced, or would the apple store be able to help me out?

Replacing the charging port (which is NOT user serviceable) has voided your warranty with Apple, and forfeited your abiltity to receive any further support on that phone, including from this forum.
You'll need to look elsewhere for assistance.

  • How do I get the charging port cover open on my I-pad, so that I can insert the charger?

I'm trying to connect an Ipad to a USB charger (30 pin, I believe) there is a little black plastic cover over what appears to be the charging port. How do I get this to open ?

There is no charging port cover on the iPad. Do you have a case on your iPad? It may have a cover. If so, you'll need to consult any documentation that came with the case.

  • My charging port on iPhone 4S is really dirty from previous owner. It's more than dust. It's affected the charging to where it won't charge anymore. How can I safely clean this out? Or will I have to go get it cleaned or something by apple? Thanks.

I bought my iPhone 4S from a friend and noticed right away that inside the charging port it's really dirty. It didn't affect anything so I didn't think much of it. Now though, it is not allowing my phone to charge at all. I've tried multiple chargers, adapters, and wall plug-ins and it doesn't change. It still won't charge. I'm not sure as to go about cleaning it. I don't want to scratch the part that connects to the charger. So how would I clean it, and would I need to just go to apple and let them deal with it?
    Thanks.

Are you sure it is not corrosion/rust from moisture damage?

  • Found a dead spider in my charging port (iphone 4) this morning. Now phone wont charge at all... What can I do? It's now all totally cleared of lint and legs :/

This morning my phone wouldnt charge, I tried three different charging cables. They are lighting up to show they are working, but the phone does not charge or show a symbol or connect to the computer.
So i cleaned out the lint from inside the charging port. and inside all the chargers, some of them were new off the shelf so would not be the problem.
I found a dead spider inside the port. Have blown into it, thoroughly cleaned with a needle any debris and fluff and spider legs etc...
It still wont charge. I have ten percent battery... it's off for now. It is not covered for a chat with apple at all, unless i pay $40 which is crazy expensive.
Any ideas of what to do to save this phone? Obviously i cant back it up because it wont plug in to anything.
For now it is not on charge, just trying to let it dry out.
Probably i squashed this spider when plugging it in. therefore there could be spider guts all ruining the inside? I don't know how the ports are made. Up until not charging
there were no issues at all.

    Hi lisellemono1,
I'm sorry to hear you are having charging issues with your iPhone; I know how frustrating that can be. Based on your description and the possibility that there may be other debris or residue still in the charging port, you may need to have your iPhone evaluated or serviced.
