Chargers
Is it possible to use either my iPhone4 or my iPad2 chargers to charge either device even though they show slightly different voltage & amperage ?
You can safely use the iPad USB charger to charge the iPhone.
You can also safely use the iPhone USB charger to charge the iPad, but it will charge more slowly.
I use one charger to charge all my devices, it is the charger that came with the iPad.

I have an iPhone 4 not quite 2 years old. 2 nights ago my iPhone was on its charger and it kept vibrating as if it was being disconnected and re-connected from the charger. When I looked at it had an "error" message but now I don't know what that was as it was 3am and I was half asleep. I just diconnected the charger and the battery read fully charged.
The my volume wouldn't go up or down. The box with "ringer" in it came up but no bars at the bottom to show the volume is increasing or decreasing. It would not play music out of the speakers either even though the screen showed it was playing and it would not work in our dock/speaker unless I used bluetooth and even then, if we touched the volume button on the dock it would switch off.
I tried a "hard" reset 3 times and tried switching it off and on 3 times with no success.
I tried 3 different chargers including a car charger, plus the speaker dock with no success.
It is now out of battery and I cannot charge it.
The iPhone also would not back anything up prior to the battery going flat.
I just need to know if it is fixable or do I need to start looking for a new phone?Welcome to the Apple Support Communities

Issues with using aftermarket 2G chargers with the iphone
I was using my iphone 3GS last night and battery was over 90% I had just gotten done shooting some video and I was on my PC trying to figure what I needed to do to upload the video to YouTube. I pulled iPhone out of my pocket it was completely dead. I tried soft reset and hard reset with no luck. I thought maybe I had misread how charged the battery was and it had just died. When I got home I plugged it and let it charge overnight on an aftermarket charger. When I woke up this morning same thing. No power, no response( I tried plugging it into the wall and into the USB port of my laptop) I also tried soft reset and hard reset again this morning still no luck. I had been using an after market home charger that I had purchased with my original iPhone 2g. It seemed to work with no problems on the new phone and I had used it everynight for the last week or so.
As a last resort I put my iPhone in a new case-mate charger/holster I had just purchased and finally it gives me the battery charging icon. My conclusion is that the after market charge I have will work OK for charging a low battery to full again but if the phone is completely dead then maybe only an original charger will work. The problem is I have USB cables and home charges and car chargers from my iPhone 2g and my iPod touch and I assumed they would all work and were interchangeable but now I am not so sure. I am also stumpped as to how my battery could say 90% and 2 hours latter the phone is compelty dead. The only things I had done was turn on location services ( I was messing around with an app I downloaded (Zillow) and used the camera for less than 5 minutes and made 2-3 calls. Maybe the case-mate holster charger I had used ealier in the day had given a false full charge, I am not really sure at this point I am still trying to sort out the issue.Apple changed the pin configuration with the 3G on phones ,ipod and itouch back in 2008
They removed the firewire charge option new kit is now not compatible with older
options that charge
ie 3G or 3Gs for that matter will not charge on original Bose Sound dock or Apple
docks for starters -
I have an iPhone 4S and an iPad2, can i use both chargers in the iPhone and iPad, they have different amperage...
You can use your iPad charger to charge your iPhone 4S. Not recommended to use your iPhone charger to charge your iPad. So, use your iPad charger to charge both.

My iPod Touvh 4th Generation won't turn on. It will not charge even after I used a few chargers and will not connect to a computer. The Home button is broken and I don't know if the Lock/Sleep button is now broken or stuck as well. I believe there may be a problem with the battery or the backlight. I've had my screen replaced once by some stooges. What should I do?
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
When it says place the iPod in recoverymode use one of these programs.
For PC
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
If necessary:
Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot
and
RecBoot tip
For MAC or PC
The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Take a look at the OEM quick-charging chargers that really charge quickly
For us phone users it really means getting our Android smartphones back into the game quicker than ever. And once you use it, you'll never want to use anything else. Do you use a Fast Charger and if you do, having any battery or heating problems?
A quick look at OEM quick-charging chargers that charge quickly | Android CentralI use them and have been using them. If you hear someone complain about heat, and claim wireless charging doesn't get hot are full of themselves. The Quick Chargers may get hot quicker , but doesn't stay hot for long periods of time and the quick chargers change in amperage the more full the battery is.

My 12v chargers no longer charge my iPod why?
I have several 12v USB chargers that I have used in the past to charge my iPod v 5.0.1 model C008LL either in the car or on my boat.
Now I either get a "Charging with this accessory is not supported" Griffin Power Pod or the adapter charges (Griffin Power Jolt) but turns off
the play back making using it in the car impossible. Whats up with that?Did you do as suggested by Skydiver? If you did and you still can not charge your iPad, you either have a defective charger, or you have a hardware issue with your iPad. If you can try a different cable, or charger (do you know anyone who has an iPad?) to make sure it's not the cable. Other than that, it might be time to make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your Apple Store.

Way, way back it was cool that you could wrap the smaller cord around those retractable clips. However, even that has grown annoying.
For those of us who use the longer attachment (for which there isn't even a wrapping solution) dealing with the cords is time consuming (and basically impossible to do in such a way that it can withstand any real traveling).
At least one of the reasons there is no retractable cord option is that other companies can't design one themselves without violating your intellectual property rights. That said, Apple should really be the ones to tackle this particular cord-annoyance (all the groundwork for the design has already been done for you guys--all you'd have to do is tweak it to fit the specifics of your magsafe cords, and *voila*, fantastically manageable, clean, well-designed, and highly portable power cord for us all.
Suddenly: champagne would fall from the heavens, doors would open, velvet ropes would part, world peace, end to hunger....you get the idea.
It seems like this is the only place to give suggestions for things such as this...am I missing something?Welcome Jessie!
Here's how to get your comment to someone working in Apple product development:

That said, Apple shipped retractable cord chargers in the early PowerBook days. From talking to people who owned them, I get the impression that the constant in/out action caused many to fail prematurely. I suspect Apple abandoned them for a reason. -

My daughter bought a 4th generation ipod classic without a charger. The ipod was working just fine, but then we tried to charge it using a brand new charger for an Ipod Touch. It won't charge and someone online someone posted that there ipod touch charger worked on the ipad, phone and whatever else he had but it wouldn't work on the classic. Anyone else have this same issue? Any solutions?
The ipod did not come with a power cord as we purchased it used from ebay. The ipod was half charged when we received it and it worked well enough to transfer songs to my computer (the previous seller didn't delete their 2000 plus songs). My son then used the same cord on his computer to transfer the songs, but processed an update to the ipod and after that,it wouldn't work. So, I'm not sure if we received a bum ipod, an update issue or we have a charger issue, but the cord we used to transfer the songs came from my son's brand new ipod touch. We've also tried 2 other chargers from ipods we have in the house, 1 being a wall charger.
One individual posted online that he took his ipod classic, mac and phone overseas with one charger and it worked fine on all but the classic. So, I'm thinking that they cords may not be universal. Online I've read that it must be a 6 pin firewire, high power 2.0 usb cord. Or that I need to purchase an applie charger. We don't live close to an apple store and I'm reluctant to order one just to have it NOT work.
My daughter is learning the hard way that buying off of ebay is not always the best solution to a cash strapped 12 year old.
Any other advice is greatly appreciated. -
I am traveling to the Philippines next week and am confused on whether I need to buy a converter to be able to charge my Iphone (and Ipad). I was told I did not as the chargers were universal and automatically converted anywhere from 100 to 240v depending on what you plug into.
I would just like some more confirmations if any one has traveled internationally.
Thank you.No, but most international airports I have been to have convenience stores that sell the plug adapters. And there are always other shops with the adapters so it is easy to get exactly what you need after you get there.

IOS 7 blocked uncertified chargers? Is there any way to fix this?
I just read that Apple blocked uncertified lightning cables with the ios 7! Those were the only ones I had that WORKED, APPLE! I have a box full of certified chargers that don't work. The optimism I had for a better quality charger lasted only as long as the first one that died...less than a month. Nine months ago we bought 3 iphone 5's and 2 iPads. None of those chargers work. I have HAD to buy chargers that were not certified because, really, who in their right mind would pay $30 for something that is designed to break (as evidenced by my "Box-O'-Apple-FAIL")?
It has to be one of two reasons.
1. They are purposely making faulty equipment.
2. They literally CAN'T figure out how to make a charger!
The "plug in, turn off, turn back on" didn't work. I'm hoping somebody has figured this out. If not... well played Apple, for fixing it so I have a box of crappy certified chargers and now a box of ones that you made sure I can't use and no Apple store within 120 miles!Between my wife and I, we have 7 lightning cables covering home, work, and the cars... we have NEVER had one fail. Well.... we won't talk about the one the cat chewed up...
If they are failing that often for you, either you are doing something to physically damage them, or the power source you're using is highly unstable and is cooking the chip in them. -
I mean seriously, stop working on your earplugs and look at the cheap quality of your chargers. I'm really really disappointed with apple. I have always loved apple and been an i-gadget freak but your chargers just bring my spirit down. GO WORK ON YOUR CHARGERS AND MAKE THEM STRONGER. Because even you know that apple's going down now and if you still have these shrude means of giving away cheap chargers so you can make more money (by making people replace them every once in a while) then you're gonna fall down to the ground because there are better phones and you have competition.

Help! My iPhone 5 has recently started to "die" at about 20 or 30% battery depending on where I am or how cold it is (i.e.it doesnt seem to die as fast with Wifi in my apartment but will drain so quickly and die at 40% battery life when i am at work. So today, my battery died at 56% YES 56%!!! GRRRRR. I have tried everything online articles tell you to do in order to conserve battery life. Also, our chargers have all gone caput this past week. I believe it is the adaptor as when the cord plugs into the computer it will charge. WT? All our apple products have gone berzurk this last week and I beg for an answer!! The phone is over one year old, along with one charger. But the other TWO chargers were purchased recently and they all stopped this week. Any guidance or help with fixing this the most cost effective way would be much appreciated!
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
Everything that cames in the box is included in the 1year warranty, unfortunately you're just outside of that warranty. Regardless, if the above troubleshooting does not resolve, take the device to Apple and they can determine if the issue is the device, the charger(s) or something else.
