Charging 5G ipod on USB Question
When you use an AC charger with USB cable to charge ipod you can charge and still have control of your ipod's click wheel. Is this possible when charging from a computer's USB port? When I connect it locks the click wheel, and if i eject the ipod then it stops charging
Hi Sansalias,
Welcome to Apple Discussions
No, I don't believe you have control because it is hooked onto your computer and it is updating/talking with your computer. You should be getting a "Do Not Disconnect" message in your iPods display. I think the other reason for this is because they assume since it is plugged into your computer; you can just use iTunes.
How do you eject it? You can eject it from iTunes, but not your computer. This will make it so you can charge it while it is still connected to your computer. Then you should be able to use the click wheel. You might want to look at the following:

IPod Firewire/usb question
So I just got a second generation iPod off of ebay but it doesn't come with anything except the iPod. I was wondering if I can buy a connecter for an the newer iPod in the stores and if it would still work for my older version. THANK YOU
I used to have one 2G iPod, which I gave to a friend. as far as I can remember what you need is an ordinary firewire cable

I HAVE AN OLD IPOD MINI (1ST GEN I THINK)AS IT HAS NOT GOT THE SIZE OF GB ON THE BACK AND ALSO HAS A CLICK WHEEL.
I CANT GET IT TO CHARGE THROUGH MY USB......PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP ME?
THANKSHere is a helpful Article: iPod's Battery Doesn't Charge
See this link for a good bit of info: The iPod Battery Unplugged..
A synopsis of it is as follows:
"For best results, try not to use computer ports to charge your iPod. USB is especially sensitive to how many devices are on it and what the resulting bus voltage is. It may even display the charging icon but not be adding much to the battery. USB versions prior to 2.0 will not charge your iPod (and probably be too slow for its other functions). Even USB 2.0 is limited to 700 milliamps and an iPod "likes" to see one full amp for charging, plus some to spin the HD while mounted. Some (early) iPod models will not charge from USB, period. Some PCs use 4-pin Firewire cables (all Macs are 6-pin) which carry no charging voltage, so they won't work at all for recharging and can allow your iPod to run down and cause serious problems while updating firmware, restoring, or loading songs. Both USB and Firewire require the iPod to be mounted by your computer as an external drive, which means the iPod's HD is spinning, using some of the juice that the battery might like to have. And if the computer sleeps or is turned off, the battery won't charge and in some cases will actually drain through the port circuits. Bottom line: if your ports are not doing a good job of charging your battery, use the wall adapter to charge for several cycles before questioning the battery's credentials. If you have a new iPod which only comes with USB, don't panic; it can work fine. But if you do experience problems, either take everything else off the USB bus (except mouse & keyboard) and/or get an AC adapter."
Here is another possible way to obtain a charge.
I have not tested this myself, but some reports on these Discussions indicate that it does work:
With the iPod disconnected from the PC, open up "my computer". You will see all the available drives. Now, plug the iPod into the USB port on your computer. As soon as you plug it in, watch the "my computer" window for the external drive (your iPod) to open up. As soon as it does, double click on it. It should remain charging for you (and your iPod will say ‘Do Not Disconnect’). Don't close out of it until you think the charging is complete (about 4 hours). It appears as though, as long as the iPod is communicating with the computer, it is charging. -

My iPod touch 4th gen. Won't charge with a enercell charger that I've used since December. It will only charge with the apple USB cord that came with it. And even the takes it about 6 sec. To realize its charging. Help me fix this?
Yes, I've been using it for months. And I can charge other devices with it. (my iPhone) but something weird just happened..... I kept on pluging it in the iPod and sometimes it would start to chàrge then sometimes it won't charge. Charges every time with the iPhone though.

I will be in Germany for a year. I want to take my ipod classic and charge it with a usb wall charger, like I do here in the USA. Can I simply use the correct wall adapter plug for Germany, or must I use a power converter/transformer in between?
It should work as long as the prongs adapter are adapted to the outlet configuration.

Can I charge my iPod from the USB socket on my tv
Hi, just wondering if anyone knows if I can charge my iPod from the USB socket on my tv No other way at the moment and running low on battery Thanks
Yes if the port puts out enough current (about 1.2 amp (500 ma). If less it may not show charging when the screen is on but it will charge, but slowly with the screen off.

Why won't my ipod shuffle charge in a portable USB charger?
Why won't my ipod shuffle charge in a portable USB charger?
Does the wall charger successfully charged other devices like iPad, iPhones?
There are some complaints, that the 10W iPad wall charger does not charge iPod Classic, as it is too high power, Claasic need 1Amp max, but the iPad Charger gives 2 Amp.

Must I have an Apple USB power adaptor to charge an ipod or can I use the power adaptor from my htc cell phone?
Read the cell phone user manual to see if the charger can charge an iPod Nano.
FYI the usb power charger (AC) does not have to come from Apple. I purchased mine from Macmall.com -
