Charging a zen microphoto using mains u

hi,?my girlfriend recently got a green zen microphoto 6gb and as it just comes with the usb cable to charge i bought her a mains charger to charge it. the charger is supposed to work with ipods and all the usual usb stuff but there seems to be a problem. when the zen is plugged into it the chargers status led does not show that it is giving any charge until you actually use the player!? i.e. if you put the player to sleep and try and charge it only seems to 'trickle' charge (2 days later still only about half charged!). it seems the more power the player is using the more charge it gets... am i missing something here? does the player have a charge mode? the charger http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=330052286986?thanks in advancemark

I bought the Belkin wall charger. It came with a car charger and a USB cable. Both the wall and car charger units have a place to plug in the USB cable (so the same cable works for both). When I tried to use the USB cable that came with the player (that plugs into the PC), it didn't work with the wall charger (it had to be the Belkin USB cable). That's when I started searching this forum for what others had said. And that's when I learned that not all USB cables are created equal ... some follow the complete USB spec and others don't. Creative apparently requires a cable that does. Unfortunately, retail USB cables are not marked in a way for the consumer to know whether or not they follow the entire USB spec ... so consumers don't know until they try to plug it in. My personal opinion is that many of the people who are experiencing an unrecognized player have bought a low-end cable unknowingly ... and since the player (as an MTP device) uses Windows Media Player's drivers, it's up to Microsoft to decide what is or is not required. A USB device that is not MTP will usually work with a low-end cable ... and that's why you have to click the "Safe to Remove" icon before pulling the cable to that device out (else you risk having voltage on the wire when you unplug it).

• Do I need to have the software to charge my Zen MicroPhoto with U

I haven't got the latest firmware
is this going to damage my microphoto Do I need to get the software somehow because I'm not home...

It's very strange.
I plugged my zen and although the battery charge signal is flashing the battery isn't charging (the battery signal doesn't fill) I have it on for 4 hours and the battery status hasn't changed...
the computer recognized the device, cause I have windows xp and service pack but still it won't charge (or maybe it charges very very slowly... )
what could be wrong?
could it be that I have USB intead of 2?
or maybe is it that I don't have the software installed?

• Plaback error-Zen Microphoto using Napster To

Microphoto with firmware version .3.0. Also have most recent driver on PC. Recei've "Playback Error" when playing tracks on player. Only "temp" tracks from Napster To Go....no problem playing purchased tracks. Spent lots of time with Napster support, assuming it was Napster issue (may still be). Napster and I looked at licensing and clock sync?issues and can't seem to remedy problem. Some tracks, when "properties" opened in Media Player, show nothing in license tab, others have proper license designation. Doesn't seem to make a difference. Have attempted to clean database and load new tracks. Nothing has worked.
Leaving for vacation on Saturday and sure would like my tunes. Any thoughts?KAT

Napster finally able to fix. Apparently a late upgrade of Media Player 0 has some type of incompatability with firmware on Creative Microphoto, causing To Go tracks to play for a few seconds then stop (resulting in "Playback Error"). Napster support had documentation from Creative, so dissappointed that someone from Creative couldn't help here. Unfortunately, fix ended up being a reformat of the hard dri've, causing me to rebuild my song database. Better than purchasing a new player.

• Zen Microphoto chargeing prob

I got my wife a zen microphoto mp3 player at the same time i was sold a compatible charger. If I buy the zen micro charger does it show a fork telling me its charged fully?

• Zen microphoto not charging through

I'm trying to charge my zen microphoto in a friends computer and it just won't charge. The signal is flashing the computer recognizes the device but the battery is still in /3 although there's been 6 hours since I plugged it...
note that I have a usb connection, that the computer is a laptop, I don't have the software installed, and I haven't updated the firmware...
what could be wrong?

For my Micro there is an option that you can set the player in Lock mode and then insert the usb cable to the pc which has not drivers installed to enable charging of the player. Try that out.
However, this is with an updated firmware to at least ..0 for my zen micro. Check with the microphoto firmware for more infoMessage Edited by microm3 on 08-02-2006 0:9 PM

• Zen MicroPhoto Charging Quest

Question, I charge my zen microphoto with my USB cord, but when ever I plug it in, it always turns on the player on. I then shut it off, but when I come back, the player is always turned on again. Is this normal, or am I doing something wrong?
thanks!

I think the other icon that you haven't seen yet is the icon for the battery being fully charged. It's a little plug. It seems that you MicroPhoto is completely charged since when you unplug it the battery icon is green. When it is done charging it will shut down automatically.

• Zen MicroPhoto No power unless using ac adap

Hello, I purchased a Zen MicroPhoto in November to give to my daughter as a Christmas gift. Last weekend she told me that it will no longer power on unless she had it on the AC charger. I checked it myself and she is correct. It will on occaison power on with the battery it's very rare. Also it works using the car charger as well. However if you try to connect it to a Windows PC?with the USB cable that came with the player it will not power on. I sent email to Customer Support and have yet to get an answer. Anyone have any ideas. I used a volt meter to check the battery voltage and it does have the 3.7v output. ThanksBrett

yes a usb card is worth it if you are in the us go to www.newegg.com they are cheap also what part did you lose the part to the wall or the part to the zen

• Zen MicroPhoto charging questio

I was wondering how you could turn off Zen MicroPhoto from charging each and every time when you connect it to a computer? Can't the player be connected but stopped from charging?
The reason I'm asking is because you will eventually wreck the battery if you keep charging it when it's not empty or near empty.
If anyone knows something about this, please let me know.
Regards
Gonna

Thanks for your reply. The other problem is the fact that when you set your player to be used as a removable storage disk,it still charges once plugged into a computer.Maybe Creative could fix this problem through a firmware update.
The other thing I noticed is that when you put files on the part of your player that is used as removable storage, you can't access any of those files over the player itself (being either audio or photos). And when you plug the player in to the computer, you can't seem to copy files from the removable storage section to other parts of your player such as music and photos.Maybe I haven't figured it out yet,but from what I've tried to do so far,it just hasn't given me an option.
Gonna :smileyvery-happy:

• Creative Zen Microphoto Charge probl

hi i bought my player online over the internet. I bought a charger separate in HMV, does all mp3s. It only charges however when its says battery low on screen-can't charge it any other time.its really annoying. Whats do you think the problem is?

The Zen MicroPhoto also charges over your computer's USB ports.
Have you tried that?
The Creative Zen Micro charger is only $9.95 and is designed to work with the ZEN MicroPhoto, ZEN Micro and ZEN Neeon.

• Problems Charging Zen MicroPhoto when 'undock

Whenever I use my AC charger for my MicroPhoto the battery indicator does not appear to indicate the battery is getting anymore charge. I can see the green lightning flash icon blinking on and off which would suggest that power is being received from the charger but the battery icon is not filling up with 'green'. I have also noticed this effect when the MicroPhoto is attached to my PC via the USB cable but not actually in the docked state. The version of software is .0.0

Hi,

• Charge a Zen v Plus from mains power and still play mu

Does anyone know if you can charge a Zen V plus from mains power and still play music?

Creative could save its Help Desk/Support people and their consumers endless amounts of aggravation if they simply included a Mains wall charger with every player.
How much does a charger cost at the factory level when you make thousands upon thousands of units?
As it stands now this policy forces people, many of them not very handy with computers [and by the sounds of reading this forum, not everyone in the world is running XP with Service Pack 2 and has all their computer's ducks in a row...] to troubleshoot their USB ports, hack their Registry, delete and re-install firmware and software.
A lot of that is completely over the heads of people who merely want to listen to their favourite music and simply charge their shiny new Zen DAP.
How many people give up when they can't get their Zen recognized and return it to the store, never to buy Creative again?
One it too many when the solution is so simple and inexpensi've.

• Zen Microphoto Drivers / How to use microphoto without

I've lost the CD for my Zen Microphoto and just recently formatted and reinstalled Win XP on my computer. Most companies host drivers for the hardware they sell. Creative seems to be taking exception to the microphoto. I've downloaded everything listed in the downloads section for the microphoto. The strange thing is that there is no driver listed. I've been trying for weeks to find a way to transfer songs to and from my zen and have yet to find a way. I can't even install the zen organizer application because it requires a connection with my zen player (which my computer can't find without a driver). I've tried connecting with my zen on several different computers. Nothing works. Any ideas?
By the way, who's bright idea at creative was it to sell mp3 players that don't come with power cords that connect with wall outlets?

If you are using standard oracle client, software is installed correctly, you shouldn't need to. The oracle directories will already be on the path.
If you are using instant client you will have to set your path manually. Goto control panel -> system -> Environment variables.
I'm fairly sure the Instance client installation document has something on this.
Windows doesn't use LD_LIBRARY_PATH. It just uses PATH

• My PC doesn't 'react' when I connect my Zen Microphoto

Hello,
I'm Michel van Gelder and I have a problem with my Zen Microphoto. I am going to try to explain my problem in proper english, but english isn't my main language, so please forgive me if i make terrible mistakes or something.
My problem is:
If I connect my Zen to my PC it says something like, what do you like to do, but when i click on an option it says: Media Device isn't connected. And also when I connect it, a symbol appears in the right corner, next to all the others, but when I try to do something with it's(with right mouse button or something) it disappears. The result is that, with everything i try, the PC says that my mp3 isn't connected. While 've installed all the software properly etc.
I have this MP3 for 2 years now, and I've never had this problem. Until 2 weeks ago, when we had to reinstall our computer. So my question actually was: Is there something wrong with my Zen or with my PC. And, what can I do about it's
I hope someone knows the answers to my questions. Thank you very much
Michel van Gelder
