Charging an ipod nanno from a docking station

Charging an ipod nanno from a docking station

Once the battery is charged, I don't think there is any extra heat because it is in a Docking Station. It would be the same as connecting it directly to the docking cable and playing it continuously. Playing it continuously will no doubt wear it out faster than playing it a few hours per day, but the fact that it was in a Docking Station should not make any difference.
Actually, if you have it in a Docking Station all the time, it will probably last longer than an iPod that is being carried and jostled constantly, because it is stationary. iPod's are much more likely to break from being dropped or bumped a few too many times than from constant use.

  • IPod freezes when playing from a docking station...Any ideas about a fix?

I have had my current iPod for a couple of years now, and until recently it has worked flawlessly. Over the past couple of months a problem has develoed when I play my iPod from a docking station. When I play the iPod from it's cradle (connected to my HK Soundsticks) or from my JBL Speaker Base, the iPod plays fine for the first few songs. After a few songs, the iPod stops in the middle of song and skips to the next song, then skips three of four times without playing at all and utltimately locks up completely. The problem seems to arise when I am simultaneously playing and charging.
    Any ideas?
    I am using a 40mb, clickwheel, iPod.

All I can suggest is to re-encode the video as m4v with QT Pro, there might've been a problem in encoding. Also, try sending this same video (setting TV Out to Yes) with the iPod not plugged into the dock and with an Apple RCA cable, if you have one, hooked up to a TV. If that works, the dock connector might be damaged (unlikely) but it's possible. So once you've re-encoded, see if the dock situation works then. Good luck.

  • HT1473 How do I get a purchased song to play on my ipod shuffle remote from the docking station?

How do I get a purchased song to play on my ipod shuffle remote from the docking station?

I can think of only one reason a song would be "converted" while it is being loaded on a shuffle.
Select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  Over to the right, depending on iPod model, go to the Summary or Settings tab.  There should be a setting there that says Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC (the 128 kbps part may be adjustable).  If that checkbox is checked, try unchecking it.
NOTE:  This setting may allow more songs to fit on the shuffle, but for any converted song, the sound quality will become inferior.  So I don't use it.

  • IPOD freezes in Bose docking station

Occasionally, when playing my iPOD through the BOSE docking station, it freezes; the screen display freezes and it won't work again until it has discharged all its power. As it's been in the docking station it charges, so the discharge is usually over night. Am I doing something wrong? Has anyone else had this problem? Grateful for any tips.

My Bose Docking Station sometimes refuses to work (with my 2nd gen Touch), but I've found that disconnecting the Bose from power, waiting twenty seconds and then powering it back up sorts out the problem.

  • 6th gen ipod nano works in docking station but not out of it

My ipod nanoworks in the docking station and connects to the PC but when i remove it from a power source the screen is blank. Any ideas?

So the iPod only powers on when connected to an external power source such as a USB port on your PC or Mac, a docking station, or when connected to a wall charger?  If so, that is a very good indication that your iPod's battery is shot and in need of replacement.
Apple can swap it out for a flat fee or you can send it to a third party repair service for a bit less. Here is Apple's pricing: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/

  • No audio when playing YOUTUBE videos on ipod touch via a docking station

Hi there, when my ipod touch is docked on its docking station, it will not play audio on youtube videos, it will play the video but not the audio through the docking station speaker. It used to play audio without problems before, but recently it has stopped. When i take the ipod touch off the docking station the audio on the youtube video returns. any ideas why this has happened? it plays the youtube audio through the head phones too, i can play all other audio through the docking station speakers with out a problem.

There are no setting to change on the iPod.
Have you updated either the firmware on the car or on the iPod since they last played in the car?
    This may work:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Ejecting W520 from the docking station

    Hello everybody,
This is a very silly question, but there in no eject button on the docking station for W520. I wonder what are the best practices to eject a laptop safely?
    Thanks so much.

I wonder what are the best practices to eject a laptop safely?
    Wasabi:
I used to encounter problems ejecting my W500 from its docking station, even when I did everything correctly.  As a result, I got into the habit of shutting the darn computer off (completely), then ejecting it.
In his post above, Thetiv states that the W520s might be different, and might not have such complications when they are ejected.  Quite possibly this is true, however, once bitten, twice shy...  My personal 'best practice' is to turn the darn thing off before ejecting it.

  • Charging Ipod without sitting on docking station

I have an Ipod Video and I just purchased an external extended battery. The Ipod needs to sit in the cradle on the extended battery in order for it to charge. Is there anyway to have it charge from the external battery without having the Ipod sit directly in the cradle? I was wondering if there was some sort of cable available that could run from the Ipod to the docking station that would charge it?

*Is there anyway to have it charge from the external battery without having the Ipod sit directly in the cradle?*
You just wrote, "*The Ipod needs to sit in the cradle on the extended battery in order for it to charge.*"

  • Charging IPod on Klipsch Speaker Docking Station

I leave my IPod on the docking station 24 hours a day so that I don't have to put it on and remove it everytime I want to listen to music even after the battery is fully charged. Am I destroying the battery life by doing this? My battery doesn't seem to last as long anymore. Any suggestions?

As long as you occasionally use it on battery power and drain the power, this shouldn't really be a problem.
These docking stations quit charging once the battery if fully charged, so there is no way this can fry your battery. Can it reduce the battery life, certainly, this is why I'd recommend that you use it on battery occasionally. Always, always running it on AC will eventually take its toll on the battery.

  • Can't charge new iPod Touch from iPod hi-fi

When I plugged my new Touch (late 2009, I think they call it) into the charging dock of my Apple hi-fi, I got a message that the battery could not charge from this device. It played songs just fine. I plugged in my first-generation Touch to confirm that the Apple Hi-Fi could charge it, and it could.
I have other, older, charging docks (including a Bose Sound Dock) at various locations in my house, but haven't tried them yet. Is the new Touch unable to charge from such docks, or is it the Apple Hi-Fi specifically that is somehow incompatible with the the new Touch?

Perhaps I can explain this a bit more.
Originally, iPods charged using the "firewire" connections which are part of the Dock Connector. I believe the voltage used was 12 volts. Later iPods were charged using the USB 5 volt connections, which are also part of the Dock Connector, but I think those iPods could also be charged by either the USB or the firewire connections.
Several manufacturers of chargers/charging stations/Docks for iPods did not add the USB 5 volt charge feature, probably because they were saving money and missed the incredibly obvious - that Apple would one day drop the firewire charge feature.
That day has come; the latest iPods cannot be charged by the firewire connections, so if your Dock uses the firewire but not the USB, then it will not charge an iPod that only uses USB, such as the Touch. I have an eighteen month old Bose Sound Dock and it will not charge my iPod Touch. (I don't know if Bose have rectified this oversight yet.) I also have two Klipsch RoomGroove units. When the iPod Touch first came out, the Klipsch would not charge it. However, very quickly, Klipsch RoomGrooves disappeared from the shelves (here in the UK anyway) and when they reappeared, they did charge the Touch. I saw this happening and waited until the newer version of the Klipsch was available.
Now you may think that Apple were in some way wrong to stop the firewire charging but, think about this. Originally, the iPod's electronics and battery both required 12 volts to work. As technology improved, both the batteries and the electronics could be made to work reliably with only 5 volts, which happens to be the voltage used by USB connections. So if Apple now have a device that can be charged by the USB on your computer, they don't need to include a charger in with the iPod. So the iPods that charged by either firewire or USB were a case of Apple ensuring that old style Docks would continue to work. But that was not going to last forever.
There is no doubt in my mind that designers should have seen the firewire issue coming!

  • IPoD with Jensen Digital Docking Station

I just bought an iPod nano and a Jensen Docking Digital Music System. When I use the docking station with the iPod and put it on shuffle, it works but it also frequently pauses, with the "charge" battery showing, when it's fully charged. How do I stop this?

My Bose Docking Station sometimes refuses to work (with my 2nd gen Touch), but I've found that disconnecting the Bose from power, waiting twenty seconds and then powering it back up sorts out the problem.

  • Ipod nano 7th generation/docking station

I recently purchased a sony radio/docking station.  I have noticed my ipod never completley turns off while it is in the docking station. Even when the docking station is turned off, the ipod stays in a sleep mode.  Long term is this something that could hurt my ipod?   I have read that the battery stops charging when the battery gets full, so I am not too worried about that.  Should I be concerned about my ipod staying on all the time?

The docking station has a Lightnining connector? If yes be sure you are pressing the Nano all the way in.

  • When trying to connect my iPod Classic to a docking station/fm transmitter/head phones it does not work. How come?

When I go to connect my iPod to a docking station or my fm transmittor it shows that the song is playing but will not work. The only time it has worked was when it was conencted to an original ipod cord. My FM transmittor will play any other ipod but my own. I was wondering what I could do to fix this or what I should do.

Depending if you have apple care then you should be able to replace it. Or, it could be the cord that you are plugging it in with/ docking station. It ma not work also.
    I hoped this helped

  • How to undock Thinkpad Yoga from Onelink Docking station?

I used the search but I couldn't find the answer to my problem, so here it is:
I've got a Thinkpad Yoga and a Onelink Docking station but I can't figure out how to safely hot undock.
I cannot find any option to undock and just ripping of the onelink cable doesn't feel to be quite safe ?!?
    Thanx for your help.

    Welcome to the forum!
Even if it were physically possible, you wouldn't be able to use both Ethernet ports at the same time, because the motherboard doesn't support more than one connection at the time.

  • No sound from xb4 Docking Station

Using the HP Entertainment PC with the xb4 Media Docking Station.  Can not get the mute button to turn off on the docking station. It will control the notebook volume and mute buttons, but will not turn it off on the station.  The notebook sounds great until it is plugged into the station, and it becomes silent.  No sound coming from the speakers at all. Purchased the entire package 4 months ago, talked with hp tech. support for several hours, and just received the third docking station today yet I'm still having the same problem.  The second docking station worked great for about 2 months, then the computer was disconnected and once the computer was reconnected the problem emerged.  The first and third stations had the problem from the first connection.  The only thing plugged into the station is the power adapter.
Please if anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated!!

I do suffer the same pain, i just received the (XB4) replacement from Hp, because I've been having the same problem, and after hours with tech support finally they agree to send it!!! and guess what...... the same old history, no sound come out, the funny thing is that my wife has one xb4 too, and we had been doing all kind of trouble shooting tests and my wife's docking st. works perfect, now I can't express my how far my frustration has reached.
Anyway I do recommend to send your Docking Station + Replacement Docking Station and get your Money back or exchange it for some other product, because I really and strongly believe that my time is more important and valuable than dealing with this kind of issues where i paid for a quality product and it results not to be, and/plus uses my time in order to figure out how to fix it (i don't think so!!!).
This is a Bad one Hp, i like your products, but this one really got me out my nerves.
Have a nice day, and hope to hear something helpful from HP soon
