Charging cable keeps breaking.

My charging cable keeps breaking and twisting at the part underneath the bit that goes into the iPhone. Is there any way I can stop this from happening?

Never break?  You must never move it!!!!  Apple has made these cables so cheaply and the iPhones with such quality.  I bet if Steve Jobs was still alive he would be ashamed the way his company was handling this piddly problem.
BTW, both my wife and I handle our cables carefully to make sure they do not twist or curl.  What ever Rudgegar is doing must be leaving his phone in one position always.  It's plastic, Rudegar and eventually will break unless it is designed properly.
I have friends that have breakage problems at the connector that goes into the phone.  Even Dog the Bounty Hunter uses iPhones and made an off handed comment about their cable breaking and being cheap.  Would love to share that sound bite with Apple.  Maybe they wouldn't be raping us for $30.00 a pop.
Apple - is this a scheme to get more money out of us.  Aren't you rich already????  Don't do  this to the working and middle class and the poor!   Shame on Apple!

  • Iphone charging cable keeps breaking

The charging cable for my Iphone 5 keeps breaking, I have purchased 3 in the last few months. My phone is plugged in to charge on a small table, the cable is not stretched or pulled in anyway. I have just been on to the apple store to order a new one and have seen the reviews on these cables, they are shocking with everyone complaining about them breaking constantly. These cables are not cheap at £15 a time. I would like to know if apple are actually addressing this serious flaw in their product, if you get a warranty with these cables or if anybody knows of another company that sell knock offs of these that are actually better quality than what apple offer its customers? I am seriously doubting apples customer care regarding the amount of bad reviews on this product.

You are really confused Peter Gillespie.
    I replied to you that
"I took mine to the Apple store and they refused to replace it saying I had not been careful keeping it straight when charging whilst it was still under warranty.
The product I have mentioned protects the cable whilst still retaining its flexibility.
Anyway, it has worked for 4 members of my family so far and we have had them over 6 months and one of the chargers in question does have a split and stll works after using the product"
This reply was in response to your comment below:
"If less than 12 months old then it is under warranty ,unless Apple bellieve it is user abuse rather than a manufacuring issue that caused the "failure""
My reply was not, as you incorrectly imply, to your earlier post where you stated:
"The strange thing is that as stated hundreds of millions of users have no issues with the cables
Yet clearly some users do have an issue ,time and time again ......................now what does that tell you ?"
I never replied "strangely", it appears you have a serious misunderstanding of the flow of this thread and it is clear you are making a lame attempt to be the hero.
I simply highlighted a product which has served it purpose and that is all. I am not into lying about who said what to whom because it is very clear to see for those who understand.

If the cable that came with it went bad with in a year, it's still under warranty. Have it replaced.

  • Why do the cables keep breaking at the same spot?

i have spent soooooo much money on apples charging cables and have even looked into how can I avoid this from happening, but have now gone through 3 cables in the past year because they keep breaking right after the step down from the input into the phone part

So when you returned the cables under warranty, the Apple genius bar  rejected a warranty claim .....because ???

  • Ipad 4 charging lead keeps breaking

I have purchased a number of leads for the ipad 4 and they keep breaking at the neck towards the 8 pin end. Looking at the apple web site for options and there is lightning to usb adapter accessory can this be attached to a usb charger (possibly a mobile phone charger) for charging? It would illiminate the risky poorly contructed part of the apple lead. Just wondered if this would work. Thanks JL.

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Do NOT use an iPod/iPhone charger.  Do NOT use a computer's USB port.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know.  If the above test does, in fact, indicate a problem, read this.
    Also, according to Apple:
    Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

  • Lightning cables keep breaking

My 3rd lightning cable just stopped working. The same thing happened to my last one. It worked for about 3 months and then just stopped working. It would charge my iPod, but only if it was completely off. I could live with having to turn it off every time I have to charge it, but it doesn't work when I try to sync it with my laptop. Windows just says it's an unknown device and itunes doesn't recognize it. I went to get a new one but this time it only lasted less than a week. I don't have a warranty and I don't want to have to get a new one every time it breaks.

What are yo dong to the cable?
I have been using the same (one cable) for both my iPad 4 and 7G iPod Nano for the last 23 months without problems.

  • Why do my charger cables keep giving out after like three months?

I've had my phone a year and I've gotten the cord replaced like three times. It's always the part by the part that plugs into my phone that gets all twisted and such and then they cord gets glitchy and then it stops working. Is this happening to anyone else or am I just not careful enough with my cords or something?

You are not alone.  My wife has had her iPhone 5 for jsut a year now and I have had to go to the Apple store to get 5 or 6 cables replaced for her.  I've had my iPhone 5 for about 15 months (3 months longer than her) and I am still using my original cable.  The cable does not hold up to hard bending right where the cable extis the connector.  I don't bend my there and I have no problems.  I see my wife laying in bed with the cable pressing against her chest bending the cable 90 degrees right out of the connector.  Not surprising to me, I have had to treplace that cable 3 times in the last year...

  • What's going on with the charging cable?

My synch and charge cable keeps breaking just below the end that inserts into the phone.  I've destroyed 3 in one year.  Any thoughts?

Assume you returned them to Apple whilst under 12 months warranty
Are you pulling wire or gripping the hard  plug end to remove from device

  • My charger keeps breaking

    Hi all,
So I bought a Macbook pro retina display in 2013 with default of 16GB of ram, the problem is that I am about to buy my 4th charger (official from Apple) as randomly I keep hearing a large popping sound and it just stops working, I cant understand what I am doing wrong? I had a previous macbook pro and never had this issue, not once with the same usage pattern.
I charge my macbook pro to 100% and then about after 20 minutes to charge the mac properly I remove the charger, I have recently been turning off the power from the mains if that makes a difference, my usage is average with around 2-3 hours of use a day, some day I have it open from day to night and leaving it on the charger while out so the mac does not turn off.
Since the charger is less then half a year old, would apple swap it out, or am I looking at another £65 in the apple store?

    What does keep breaking mean?
The wall charger and all components included in the iPhone's retail sales box are covered under the iPhone's standard one year warranty. If the keeps breaking is not due to abuse or accidental damage, you don't have to buy anything since the wall charger is covered under the iPhone's warranty.

  • Charge Cable breaking!

Anybody else having a problem with their charging cable? Mine is starting to crack and break around the base of the connector that connects to the phone. The metal wire inside is exposed. Anybody know if this is covered under warranty?
I haven't done anything extreme to the cable and i never pull it out of the phone by the wire..

The cable is covered under warranty. Contact AppleCare or visit an Apple Store.

  • Ipad mini keeps eating charging cables

My wife bought an iPad mini about six months ago. Since then we have gone through 3 different charging cables. Two of the cables were genuine apple cables. One was a "Griffen" cable. I went to the apple store and they told my wife she needed an appointment to have her iPad looked at. Since we live 2+ hrs away from the apple store we just bought a new one. Has anyone else run into this?

I've seen/heard of at least one report of the Lightning connector (the connector on the device itself) having an arcing (where the pressure between the contacts is not enough to make a solid electrical contact) and/or corrosion issue that was destroying Lightning cables in the process of being used. One thing to look for to see if you may have an arcing/corrosion issue is dark spots on the conductors of the Lightning end of the cable. Magnified, they'll look like burned/singed spots on the conductors.
Link to the issue here at the Apple forums :

You'll likely find more by Googling "lighting cable arcing" or "lightning cable corrosion"

  • IPhone 5 charger keeps breaking

I Have owned almost every iPhone Apple has came out with. i love their products but I have been so frustrated with the nano chargers. I have gone through at least 10 of them. i dont understand why Apple has created such a poor product. They need to fix this problem ASAP. I have been contemplating on switching over to the galaxy due to the frustration of the chargers. I have been spending way to much on replacing these chargers that I have had it up to my neck. both my parents changed over to the galaxy and haven't had any issues. Apple please fix this issue,! You will lose a significant amount of revenue if this does not change. And yes I know the way you handle the charger might effect it, but I am very careful with it, I pull it out from the base and don't use my phone as it charges yet still breaks. I have purchased the chargers from the apple store and best buy, all have failed. Very disappointed

What is the "nano charger"? The small 5 watt charger that is included with the iPhone 4/5 ? I have various Apple chargers that came with many of my iDevices (beginning with the iPod nano 2nd gen), including the 5 watt charger (the larger, old model as well as the newer smaller model) and have never had a single issue with any of them. I feel they are much better made than any of the 3rd party chargers I own.
Are you maybe using the same outlet or outlets on the same circuit in the home to plug the charger into? If you're frying chargers left & right (are they frying or breaking in some other way?), I wouldn't suspect the chargers are bad but rather that the house wiring has some issue(s), either on a single circuit/breaker or in the whole home. Chargers don't just fry for any odd reason and all 10 that you've burned through couldn't have been bad or defective.

  • Even genuine iphone 5 usb charging cable does not work for an year?

I have bought an iphone 5 last year. With it, came the  original apple genuine iphone 5 lightning USB cable. It did not last for half year. I had to buy another original apple iphone 5 similar cable and it was gone within 3 months. I dont understand is it cable manufacturing problem? is apply selling fake cables? It is really annoying and I am really angry that such a reputed company cant give/ provide proper long lasting cables.
My experience with these two genuine cables was that after some months of  usage, i used to observe even if its plugged it would not charge, or if you push it hard its charging. Firstly, I never keep my phone charging all time. Then how the hack can the charging cable die? or problem arise. I bought the phone and the charging cables when I was germany. I had to buy a 20 euro local companys USB charging cable after above two stopped working with no signs of damage. I have also tried cleaning the charging jack or socket where cable is inserted. It did not help. This local charging cable started to torn out automatically and it got fully damaged, Now I am in India, I bought another cable of 10 euros and it is just two days, it would not charge again.
I am really furious now whether you use original or local USB cables they dont last for even a week? what the ****?
Do I need to really pay for those portable charger with a big price tag, that my problem will be solved? very very upset. I never have any complaint with the phone, but the charging catastrophies, really ****** me off. I think of going back to other mobile brands like samsung or nokia where there is never a charging issue or battery drainage issue once you charge its goes for days or it  is also expensive buy a nokia or samsung charger if lose it or break it. but for iphones its really bugging situation and not just me many people around the world are having sick problem with iphone brand with charging ISSUES.
APPLE PLEASE SORT THE PROBLEM OR SELL the PORTABLE IPHONE CHARGERS (WIRELESS) CHEAPER so that we dont have to use these silly little lightning cables. or I fear my APPLE I PHONE 5 is not genuine or its FAKE.
    PLEASE HELP>

Look closely at the way you handle the cables. I have never had any cable, Apple or third-party, fail on me.
