Charging device in New Zealand

I want to take my ipod touch to Australia and New Zealand where i wont have a computer to charge it. I know i need an adaptor device so i can plug it into the wall, but what kind of power adaptor works best for converting the current down there?

Hello mmillar,
Both Apple's USB Power Adapters support input voltages from 110V - 240V I confirmed this via the input voltage specs actually printed on the Adapter, so they will work overseas.
If New Zealand uses the same two-prong outlets that are common in the US, you could choose the Ultracompact USB Power Adapter:

If, on the other hand, New Zealand does not use the same two-prong system, you may need the USB Power Adapter with the removable plug and an Apple World Travel Adapter Kit:

I purchased an iPad2 in the US. What do I need to use it & charge it while traveling in Australia & New Zealand?

If it's 3G, and the AT&T version, then you will need local micro-sims in those 2 countries if you want to be able to use 3G whilst there (and avoid potenial roaming costs with AT&T).
For charging you should just need plug adapters - my UK charger has 100 to 240 v (50 and 60hz) in faint grey writing on it, and I believe both NZ and Australia are 230 V  50 hz so you shouldn't need a converter.

  • GST in New Zealand

    I'm a little puzzled.
The Apple site clearly says that the price/fee for a non-warranty repair for an iPhone is $244 including GST.
However, Apple's agents for non-warranty repairs (in the joint form of Vodafone, DS Wireless, and Brightpoint) inist on charging GST on top of the $244.
I've checked this with several stores and Brightpoint themselves, and it has been my personal experience too.. So the behaviour seems pretty widespread
But isn't that counter to the the various legislation in New Zealand on displaying prices? Does anyone know for sure? Anyway, I've asked the Commerce Commission for clarity on the situation as it seems wrong to me. I wonder if I'm missing something.
It also seems strange that Brightpoint inists that repairs go through Vodafone (even of out-of-warranty repairs of a phone not purchaed from Vodafone), and that there is an extra $50 handling-fee for the store to 'facilitate' the repair.
Is it true that under NZ law, the Commerce Commission does not need to sort out who is responsible; they can hold all the parties (Apple, Vodafone, DS Wireless, and Brightpoint) libable and then leave them to sue one another to settle the issue of specific libability.

You can get a local SIM in New Zealand or use Verizon's roaming plan for $40.

  • Hi. Im currently living in New Zealand. Just bought an iphone 5s yesterday from a shop called Parallel Brand Imports in Auckland. When i came home i called apple to check whether my phone is locked or not and they said that its locked to US Verizon even t

When i came home i called apple to check whether my phone is locked or not and they said that its locked to US Verizon even though when i checked on iphoneimei it said sim status unknown. I put my 2degrees (NZ carrier) in today and it worked fine. I got into the settings and turned off the automatically part of carrier and there were 3 options for me to choose 2degrees vodafone and telecom. Because of that, im quite confused abt whether my phone is locked or not since im from vietnam so i want to know if i can use vietnamese sim card when i go home. Thanks for your help@verizon

Hi tranvietanh - I appreciate you contacting us all the way from New Zealand! I can confirm that the iPhone 5s and all of our other 4G LTE device are not SIM locked. As the carrier in New Zealand may not support the exact same frequencies and cellular bands that we use on our network, we are unable to support the device if using a 3rd party SIM.
    Thank you,

  • Need to be "released" from Veizon Blackberry Server to get BIS in New Zealand??

I have a Verizon Blackberry Tour that has been unlocked.  I am now with Vodafone New New Zealand and have registered for Blackberry Internt Service with Vodafone.  It does not currently work - Vodafone tells me that the phone is registered on Verizon's Blackberry server and I need to contact Verizon to have it released from their server before Vodafone can provide me with BIS.  Verizon tells me that because I never had a plan with them, the phone is not registered on their server (not sure I believe that, but....).  Verizon has told me to contact Blackberry as the phone would have to be released from a Blackberry server.  This doesn't make sense to me ... but I can't seem to find a way to talk to someone at Blackberry to find out.  Can anyone help?

It makes sense to me, in that whoever used the device prior to you, did not "remove" the PIN from their account. Hence, the device remains registered on the previous account.
Verizon will need to do this. RIM doesn't do this. It is a common question asked here of users purchasing used devices. Call Verizon.

  • Setting up a Apple Airport Extreme to work on the Telecom New Zealand Broadband network?

Has anyone had any success in setting up their airport extreme to work on the Telecom New Zealand broadband network without having to connect it to the modem which NZ Telecom supply?
Any advice and tips would be welcomed!

    1. Since a "router" is needed next to the cable modem and before the ethernet switch, should we put the new Extreme in that basement location? Or, should we instead put the new Extreme somewhere on the main floor of the house (connected by ethernet) and leave the old one where it is?
Assuming the older Extreme is no older than Gen3 or Gen4 it is a perfectly adequate router for the speeds that cable will generally give you.
And therefore it is best to bridge the new AC extreme and use it upstairs via ethernet. That will then give you the best wireless in the most suitable area of the house.
    2. Should we somehow bridge the two Airport Extremes (the old one and the new one) into one wireless network?
Yes, what is called roaming network. Both units create a wireless network.
You simply setup same name and same security/password on all the devices for wireless. The wireless channels are the differentiator.. and you can either leave that on auto or take some control over it and set manually. I would be inclined to do it manually just because the AC wireless needs the 149 channel for high speed AC.. so you do not want the old Extreme in the basement using that. Force that one to channel 36 or 40. However it is likely to work itself out ok on auto.. but I recommend you check it.
The apple docos on roaming are rather ancient..
Here is a post with newer info.
Setting Up Roaming - New AirPort Extremes and Utility
    3. Should we go a further step and also bridge in one or both of the old Airport Express units, perhaps on the top floor of the house for example?
Yes, if you have a black spot with poor wireless you can add the Express to help. The old ones are single band and will probably work better at 2.4ghz but whatever suits you.. perhaps setup one on 2.4ghz and one on 5ghz.

    ashish35,
No one from Apple here - we're just users like you. All I can tell you is that electronic fail and with MacBook Pros (and most notebooks) the components are so integrated as to make a repair to the logic board practically impossible, hence the high prices charged for repairs.
Only you can decide if you want to have your computer repaired or put the money towards the purchase of a new computer. If you do decide to purchase a new unit I would suggest that you also purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan which increases your warranty from one year to three years.
    Sorry and good luck,

  • Uk Curve not working in New Zealand

    Can anyone help me.
My 8900 is unlocked but when I put a New Zealand sim in the phone it only makes calls and texts.  It wont use any apps that require to get on the data network.
What do I need to do to my handset to let me onto NZ data networks?

    Hello !
It doesnt make any difference from where you purchase your device.
What matters is that do you have an activated BlasckBerry Internet Service (BIS) data plan through your provider?
    Hope this resolves your Problem!
If your problem has been resolved then would request you to Click on "Like" and accept as "Solution" so that other Advisors doesnt invest there time on this Message anymore.

  • HT1476 why wont my iphone charge from my new computer?

My iphone 4s will not charge from my new computer any ideas?

Fault with new computer's USB port - does it work with other devices? Have same problem on another computer?
Fault with cable - Tried another cable? Does cable work with other "idevices"?
Dirt in iPhone charging port - look and clean out gently with soft dry toothbrush or similar
Fault with iPhone - reset / restore
    Take your choice.

''locking - a Firefox support issue wasn't mentioned''
The showpiece match will be Joubert's first time in charge of a World Cup final. He was unobtrusive while overseeing New Zealand's 20-6 semi-final win over Australia on Sunday.

But the spotlight was very much on Alain Rolland after the Irishman, the 2007 World Cup final referee, sent off Wales captain Sam Warburton for a dangerous 'tip tackle' during France's 9-8 win in Saturday's first semi-final - a decision IRB referees' chief Paddy O'Brien later insisted was "absolutely correct in law".

Rolland will be one of the touch judges for this year's final, along with Welsh referee Nigel Owens. Rolland is also the reserve referee.
"It is an enormous honour to get the final and I would like to thank Paddy and the (selection) committee for giving me the opportunity," Joubert said in an IRB statement issued Monday.
"I am now really looking forward to getting out there and enjoying the occasion," added Joubert, only the second South African to take charge of the tournament climax following two-time World Cup final referee Andre Watson.

Final: New Zealand vs France, Auckland

I didn’t particularly want to watch the World Cup semi-finals this weekend but I’m still suffering a bit from jet lag so I’ve been up and about early in the morning and the TV has been on.
Watching the games was difficult for different reasons. The France v Wales semi-final brought home how poor we were against France last week and what a golden opportunity we had missed.
I thought the first semi-final was a poor quality game and I found myself cheering for Wales, especially after they went down to 14 men early on with the sending-off of Sam Warburton.
A lot has been said and written over the weekend about whether it should have been a yellow card rather than a red. My view is that if you go by the letter of the law Alain Rolland made the right call.
Sam didn’t mean any ill intent, he tackled a bloke who was a lot lighter than him and he hit him with a good tackle.

Sounds like you're just bumping heads with some firmware differences between the two modems. The 7500 has a few bugs that I believe Westell may have ironed out, but Verizon hasn't built into their version of the firmware yet. As far as the difference in stats between the two modems, it's basically a difference in chipsets and how they react to different line conditions. Around here, the 7500s seem to do a pretty good job in maintaining connections even on longer lines, though there are times where a 327w will downright beat them and vice versa.

  • I have an itunes card but it says I have to redeem in the New Zealand store front

    Please help,,

Are you in New Zealand ? All iTunes gift cards are country-specific, they can only be redeemed in their country of issue and only onto accounts that are based in that country. If you are in NZ with an NZ billing address on your account then what are you trying to redeem the card on, you computer's iTunes or an iOS device ?

  • Traveling to New Zealand for 2 months

I live in Maryland and will be vacationing in New Zealand Feb and March.  I want people to be able to call me with a Maryland area code and I want to call them showing a MD area code on their caller ID. I will only be calling the US and callers will only be calling me in NZ.
Question:  Do I go to the USA choice to get a Skype Number or do I go to the New Zealand choice?  If the USA callers call my 410 (MD) Skype Number, there should not be a phone charge to them.  Seems more likely that I chose the USA choice, but I want to be sure before purchasing.

    Id suggest:
    1. You buy Unlimited World, it gives free calling to landlines to/from USA & NZ and a discount on the Skype number. You also get free calls to mobiles in USA.
    2. You set up a Skype number for Maryland (410).  You can give this number to your contacts.
    3. If you already have Maryland phone numbers (home or business) or a mobile phone in USA you can forward these numbers to your Skype Maryland number.
    4. Setup voicemail to catch calls you miss.
    5. On arrival in NZ, buy a prepaid mobile SIM and then forward your Skype account to that number. So when anyone calls any of your USA numbers then you'll get the call on your local NZ number (inbound calls are free on NZ mobile networks).
    6. Go online to your Skype account login, set your caller ID to either your USA mobile or your USA Skype number. Check show local numbers.
I think that will work for you.
If you dont buy unlimited world you can end up paying for the forwarded calls at both ends, USA to Skype Number, Skype to NZ number. Really depends on your call volume and overall costs. For me a low fixed price is the best.

My charge device has broken up. I need to get a new one. I have looked up Apple store but I find it too complicated, I have no idea about charge devices and I couldn't decide which one to buy. Could you tell me which device I should buy to charge my Iphone 5 ?

If you purchase an unlocked iPhone it will work on any supported gsm network.
Just FYI, apple will not ship outside the country in which the device is purchased. A device purchased in the Hong Kong website must have a shipping and billing address in Hong Kong.
Also, warranty and support are only valid in the country of origin.
