Charging flap won't close properly

Hi all,I've had my Xperia Z for about two months now, great phone very happy with it except for this nagging issue. The waterproofing flap on my charging port won't close properly any more, everytime I close it the flap would pop out again after about 30 seconds. It's quite annoying to have it flapping about all the time but obviously it also means that my phone is no longer waterproof. The flap itself looks like new and the seal hasn't been damaged or anything, it just wouldn't stay in place. Is this a common problem? Should I send it back for a replacement?

I got the same issue on my very new ZR (2 weeks). At first I found the flap quite efficient then I started to play with my new toy so I charged a lot, forgot about the flap... Now that my usage is more reasonable, I noticed the flap start to pop up after a few second. It stays inside but clearly it s no more waterproof and above all it s UGLY! I tried to clean the port as advised in another post on xperia care but it was only a bit better.Wait a few second and it s out. I think it comes from the connection between the port and the small rubber/plastic oval that enable the water protection. As cleaning with towel... didn't work, I took a small sharp knife and I gently rubbed the rim of the usb port on the phone.Of course be very careful. I did it very gently with no real hope it will work (I was ready to go to sony). I just wanted to be sure it was total clean and finaly................ it worked for me! I just hoped I won't need to do that too often...

  • Firefox won't close properly with symantec IPS 3.0 extension active

Hi, I have a problem with Firefox 5.0 not closing properly. After I close the browser it stays active as a process (firefox.exe*32) and I have to close that in Task Manager before I can open a new browser window. I've followed instructions on other posts and have found that by disabling all my firefox extensions and re-enabling 1 by 1 it's the Symantec IPS 3.0 that is causing the problem. There doesn't seem to be anyone else posting about this conflict and Norton says it needs to be left enabled.
    Any ideas???

Perform the suggestions mentioned in the following articles:

Check and tell if its working.

  • Firefox won't close properly in Vista or Win7

We (my wife and I) have been dealing with this issue for the last year. It's gotten to the point we are ready to migrate back to IE!
    Situation:
    Boot system
    open FF browser
enjoy FF with its addon and browsing ease.
leave FF on and leave for a couple hours
upon returning, click on a new site or try to change pages on same site and it shows it is trying to load the page but NEVER does...
So you close FF, upon trying to open again it says another copy is running, so we bring up taskmgr, find the FF highlight it, click end process and finally we can open FF again.
I have tried it with our plugin's and w/o our plugins and it doesn't seem to make any difference.

  • Firefox still won't close properly

I know early this summer an upgrade had a lot of people finding Firefox not closing completely, me included. Since then, a partial bug fix seems to have eliminated it from telling me it can't start because it wasn't closed. However, I still a good half the time find firefox among the processes running if I go to CtrlAltDel, which can impede Windows from shutting properly when I try to shut down.
This morning, as a further sign, I found a ton of cookies saved, no doubt because it didn't think the session had ended when I last used Firefox. (They're the kind of cookies I might have set to save for session only.)
I'm not expecting the forum to help me, just to be able to keep this bug on Mozilla's mind. A fix is long overdue.

I'm obviously getting contradictory replies, and I honestly don't think they're to the point of the bug of not shutting properly. Now, I could clean manually, but my usual clear history command exempts cookies, as does the clear history on shut down, so that my choices of when to accept cookies (never, for session, for good) remain. Thus, the suggestion to clear them all conflicts with my preferences, while the suggestion that I'm clearing too much conflicts with reality. The reason I have any set to remain, btw, is that the New York Times requires signing on for subscribers. But anyhow, this is still a problem.

  • Screen off center = won't close properly?

I've noticed that the screen to my MBP is off-centered to the left (when facing it, open).
There is clearly a gap in-between where the display connects on the right and not on the left. I also have noticed that on the left side (when MBP is closed after being used) that it's not flush with the base. I'm thinking these might have to do with each other.
Is there a way to loosen the screen and place it in the middle where it should be? Is this un-common? Am I freaking out? or should I just got straight to the genius bar?
    Thanks all

+should I just got straight to the genius bar?+
Yes, much better to have them fix it than risk damaging things yourself

  • HT1572 the charging light won't stay on - I have to close and re-open the I Tunes app

I have a new HP laptop. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but my charging light won't stay on. I have to keep closing and re-opening the I Tunes program. Is the battery shot or what?
    Thanks.

Depending on how often you use your shuffle (how many charging cycles it's been through), a 2nd gen shuffle from 2008 could have a worn out battery.
Battery charging is not dependent on iTunes running.  If you connect it to the laptop without iTunes running (or even installed), it should charge.  If you connected the USB cable to one of those USB power adapters, it should charge.  It just needs a USB 2.0 port with power.
When you connect it and run iTunes, does the shuffle still appear in the iTunes sidebar?  Can you still sync it from empty to full?

  • Mac won't boot properly unless in safe mode

Recently I updated my MacBook Pro to OS  X Yosemite. I then started the process of the data encryption.
I don't know what happened, but maybe the encryption failed, because now every time I turn my mac on, it won't boot properly unless it's in safe mode.
Either it will have a black screen with a visible cursor, or just the desktop with no dock or the bar along the top and no icons, or it does boot up properly, but works extremely slowly. Like if I was to press the apple symbol on the top-right of the screen, it would take 5 minutes to actually open it. Nothing works properly.
And so I opened up my system preferences, and discovered that the Encryption is stuck on half-finished. But I can't stop it. If I try to turn encryption off it says I have to wait till it's finished. But it never does, the progress bar never moves.
If I open System Preferences while in Safe Mode, the progress bar for Encryption is grey, and underneath it says "connect to power to continue encryption". But it IS connected to power.
Have I stuffed my Mac? Is there a way to get it working again?

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Macbook Pro won't sleep properly.

    Hello;
I have a problem with my mid 2009 13'' MacBook Pro that won't sleep properly.
Whenever I close the lid, or chose ->Sleep, it takes a few seconds and the system sleeps (fan off, led fading off) , but INMEDIATELY after just a few miliseconds, the system wakes up again (fan on, led on, hdd spinning).
This sequence happens again and again indefinitely (sleeps / wake / sleeps / wake, and so on...)
Then I open the lid and everything works as expected.
So far I tried all this, with no luck:
    - I've installed a clean Mountain Lion from scratch.
    - The system is untoched: no new apps installed, no new drivers installed.
    - All sharings are disabled.
    - Bluetooth is disabled.
    - Infrared port is disabled.
    - There's nothing attached to the computer except from the magsafe cable.
    - There are no background processes preventing the system from sleep  (checked  using "pmset -g assertions")
    - There is no disc loaded in the optical unit.
    - "Wake for network access" is disabled in Preferences->Energy Saver.
    - SMC y PRAM reseted several times.
As you can see, I don't know what else to try...
I would REALLY appreciate any help or suggerence.
    Thanks in advance,
    Nicolas.

A SMC will not have any results with this, in my past experince. Surprisingly the loginin items is the usual culprit.  Try option, command, delete (don't hold these keys ,just press them)and wait till it goes to sleep, and stays that way. Then if it stays aslep try closing the lid. Disconnect all peropherals. Try system preferences>energy saver, make sure comouter sleep is ot set to never, as well as the display on both power adapter and battery. On the same pane, click schedule and make sure the start up or wake is not clicked.  Also try a Ssfe boot: Power off, power back on holding the shift key, coninue to hold the shift key till you see the progress bar. This will disable all 3rd party software (it some times fixes some stufff) try the sleep menu under the Apple, or the option, command, delete.  Hope this offers some help.  If yourMBP is new, less thsn 1 year old, or you have Applecare, I would let them deal with it. You have a warranty,USE IT!  All the best
    Close all applications/operations.
You ca try a pram reset for the heck of it, in case there is somrthing strange in there that needs to be flushed.
Pram reset: Power off, power on, hold the following keys before the start chime. option, comman,P,R (no commas) and continue to hold the keys till you hear thestart chime 2 times then relesase.Reboot.
    Good luck

  • Conflict with Outlook 2007: "Outlook did not close properly"

I started getting this message "Outlook did not close properly" with the last update of I-Tunes. I searched the web and tried everything (e.g., SCANPST, etc. etc.) and even called Microsoft and created a new profile. It immediately started again.
Then, when I disabled the I-tunes add-in in Outlook, the message stopped, and stayed stopped. It looks like there's a conflict there. The problem is that I-tunes won't run without that Outlook Add-in being turned on. So it's either Outlook or I-tunes. Why should it be either / or?
I would appreciate any suggestions to let the two apps peacefully coexist.

Having the same problem. It would be nice to have a resolution.

  • Outlook won't close with iTunes 10 Addin

    Hey Guy's
since I updated to iTunes 10 (on two pc's) my Outlook 2007 won't close completely. There is always a grey Outlook icon in the statusbar and I have to close it with the taskmanager. If I deactivate the Outlook Change Notifier (an iTunes Addin) my Outlook will work fine. Is there anybody else with this problem? Any solution? I'm using Windows 7 64bit.

I'm having a similar problem - since I updated to iTunes 10, my Outlook 2007 just isn't working properly. When I close Outlook, it doesn't compeltely close. Like you, I have the grey Outlook icon in the status bar and have to close it (which probably isn't doing wonders for the .pst file) Disabling the Change Notifier doesn't seem to make any difference. Also when I actually have Outlook open, my messages are not being sent or received correctly - it seems to just sit there saying receiving message X of X and doesn't do anything else.

  • Itunes won't close

I got the latest iTunes on windows XP 64. I can open it up but when I go to close it. It won't close! I just keep pressing the exit button it won't close. Not even Alt+F4 works. Or File>Exit.

I have the same problem intermittently (though I have XP, not XP 64).
I can tell when the program is not going to close properly because iTunes DJ stops updating properly...it'll keep playing, but the counter will still be stuck on a previous song, and once I force-quit through Task Manager, none of the "last played" times from that song on are saved.  Happens at least once a day since I upgraded from 9 to 10.5.
When iTunes DJ is updating properly, though, it closes without a hitch.

  • Photoshop won't open properly

My Photoshop CS5.1 won't open properly anymore. When I click to open it, the logo pops up to start up, but it's split in half and the bottom part is above the top for some reason. After it loads everything looks right until I open an image. The image opens, but its all messed up it looks all distorted, I guess the best way to describe it is to say it's kind of checkered/pixelated. And the same thing happens to the toolbars, they get mixed in with the image when I open it. I've tried finding help on this topic anywhere, but nothing seems to match my problem. Thanks for any help

Wait, you're running Photoshop in Parallels on a Mac, and you only just now thought to mention that?
Has the Parallels software been updated lately?
I would check the Parallels forums to see whether there are display driver settings you can tweak.
Meanwhile, go into the Edit - Preferences - Performance menu, uncheck [  ] Enable OpenGL Drawing, and OK out, then close Photoshop.  See if that helps.
    -Noel
P.S., That screen grab is practically useless, though it's pretty obvious there's some kind of display corruption there.

  • Mail won't close after security update

I just installed the recent security update (running 10.4.8) and now Mail won't close on either my Dual g% tower or on my iBook. In fact, both computers were unable to reboot after the install because the mail program needed to be force quit.
This was never a problem prior to the install of the security update.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!

Problems arising right after installing a system update are usually the result of the problem already being there, or not having installed the update properly, or ignoring Apple’s "Important: Please read before installing" warnings, etc., rather than being caused by the update itself. In order to ensure that the update is installed properly, proceed as follows.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, reinstall the update that appears to not have been installed properly.
Take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.
The above won’t solve the problem, but will allow us to at least troubleshoot it properly. Post back with your observations when done.
How many accounts do you have and what type are they (POP, IMAP, .Mac)?
In Mail, open Window > Activity Viewer. What do you see there when Mail refuses to quit? Actually, you may be able to avoid having to force quit Mail by canceling whatever it’s doing (by clicking on the red stop icon of the activity).
Do you have any Mail plug-ins or any system utilities that could interfere with Mail? In the Finder, go to each of the following folders (if they exist). What do you see there?
    /Library/InputManagers/
    ~/Library/InputManagers/
    /Library/Mail/Bundles/
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles/
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the file path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the file path there.

  • Firefox won't close and has now got 'stuck'!

    Hi
My version of Firefox on my home PC (v3.6, I think) always takes a short while before it completely closes.
If I close down Firefox but then restart it again because I've forgotten something it will give me an error message saying that Firefox needs to close completely before I can open it again.
That's fine - I can live with that.
However, last night I did exactly this - needed to reopen Firefox before it had completely closed and this time it has got stuck....I don't get the error message anymore. It won't open by double click, from Explorer or anything. I can't close it from Task Manager. I can't even uninstall it because it is "still open".
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

Firefox often doesn't close properly if I have been using the Blackboard 'virtual learning environment'. Task Manager always reveals that the Firefox process is still running and Java as well. Killing Java allows Firefox to close. Is there a more elegant way of ensuring that Java isn't going to block Fx from closing, e.g. because an applet is invisibly waiting for something? It would be good to have a way of pre-emptively 'clearing' Java before closing Firefox. (Gryllida's solution of disabling Java altogether isn't suitable, because Blackboard and many other sites need it.) Thanks.
I run Firefox 4.0.1 on various machines with different OSs: Win XP Pro x64, Win 7 Pro x64 and Win XP Pro x32. All behave the same in this respect.
