Charging iPad in the car

Can I use the iPhone auto charger to charge my iPad?

Yes, but you may find that it charges very slowly. An iPhone charger usually only puts out 5w/1amp, whereas a charger for an iPad puts out 10w/2.1amps. If you find that the iPad does not charge fast enough, then get a charger for the iPad. Most modern chargers will put out what the device asks for, but cannot put out more than the capacity for which it was designed. So an older charger only designed to charge an iPhone may only put out 5v, but a newer charger designed for the iPad can usually charge either device. There are also some that can charge both at once;

  • I left my iPad in the car overnight...

I left my Ipad in the car overnight and the temp got down to 26degrees and now it says Ipad needs to cool down before use.  Did I wreck it? Yikes Help

hopefully you didn't. Just let it sit out at room temp in a nice dry place....as in don't keep near the bathroom or kitchen so you don't have to worry about moisture condensing on the ipad.  Let it warm up/cool down and then see how it reacts.
Don't use it while you do this, just let it sit peacefully.

i left my ipad in the car and it was 26 degrees out now i get nothing. how do i power  back up?

Specs for the Retina iPad are below.  You can store at 26, but you may need to allow it to reach room temp slowly (no hair dryers).

  • I just purchased an Ipad 3.  Can the same car 12V outlet adapter/USB cord for the Iphone be used to charge the Ipad in the car?

Never mind, I found the answer.

Some will be phone sized, some may not be. Any apps in the app store with a + by their name are universal apps...meaning they scale up or down to fit the device.
I too went from a touch to an iPad and the apps transferred over quite easily.

  • Left my Ipad in the car.....It was COLD

I worked Friday, February 1 from 7:30-6:30. My Ipad was in the car the entire time. It won't come on right now. I have had it charging since last night. Have I completely destroyed it?
    Please Help me!!!!

Since it has been at room temperature all night long while charging, try this now.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Iphone 4 will not charge anymore from the car stereo

Ever since I have updated to iOS5 my IPhone 4 will not charge via the car stereo connection. It worked fine before this but now no charge. I am using a scosche adaptor that was recommended by the nice people in my local Apple store but the IPhone has stopped charging.
I use my IPhone a lot as a sat-nav and find that when I get to my destination there is little or no power left in the battery.
    Any ideas?

Check the bottom of the iPhone and make sure there is no lint or debris on the connector that the power/sync cord attaches to.  Also with a very low battery, you may have to let the iPhone charge several minutes before you get any indications. If none of the above solves the problem, try another cable.  You might also want to try a car charger if you've got one.

  • Charging iPad through the computer

    Hi there-
I ahve a question, is there a way to have my iPad charge while it is connected to my laptop ???
When I hook it up, it says "not charging" in the upper right corner where the battery icon is located, what can I do about that ???
    thanks-Doug

Most USP ports on computers are too low in power to charge iPad.  That's why yo usee the "not charging" sign.  It is actually charging, but VERY slowly.  This is why your iPad came with a 10W Charging cable and is really the only efficient way to charge your iPad.

  • Charning ipad in the car

    Hello out there
I have seen other discusssions re charging your iad2 in the car but can someone comment on whether this is OK/safe to do and, if so, recommend a good charger (why dont Apple do one!). I have seen some on Amazon (some cheaper than I imagined they would be) but want to make sure I am buying a good one and, more important, one which won't knacker "my precious"!.
Thanks as ever for your advice

  • How do I charge my iPad in the car?

I bought a car charger and also hooked up my iPad to my computer, and it doesn't charge either way. Why is that?

First, USB ports on computers often don't provide enough power to charge an iPad efficiently.
Second there are a variety of auto chargers out there. You need one that provide enough power to charge the iPad. Buy a charger that specifically says it is for iPads and provide enough power to charge an iPad efficiently.

  • How do I use Lightning Camera Kit and charge iPad at the same time?

Well, that's the question. I don't like interrupting my creative work only to charge this device, I'd like to have a charger and any other external device working at the same time. If you know such product which has Lighning feed-through with a charger cable output please tell us.

    Unlikely to help you though

That's interesting. So after all they found an engineer in the company to design an adapter for them. I hope some 3rd part company like from China comes with a functioning USB (called "camera") adapter that does have the charger interface built-in.

  • HT4060 Can I use the power cord (30-pin and USB) that came with iPad 2 to charge it in my car's USB port?

Can I use the power cord (30-pin and USB) that came with iPad 2 to charge it in my car's USB port?  Or do I need to purchase one of those cigarette lighter charging devices?  Thanks!

You'd have to read your car manual but chances are it won't put out enough power for the iPad. The car is likely set up to charge a phone, most of which typically want half the power an iPad wants.
I think your  options are to get a cigarette lighter looking charger, making sure it's powerful enough for an iPad...or you can get power inverters for about $25, where they plug into the cigarette lighter/power point and have a normal household type outlet on the other end. Then you'd just plug your charger  in like you would at home.
Another option would be to look for something like a Zagg Sparq, which is a battery operated charger...plug the Sparq into the outlet at home. Its battery holds a charge and you can use that to charge your device. (zagg isn't the only manufacturer of such a device, Targus has one as well). Just look for portable chargers.
The key to remember is to make sure it's rated for an iPad, which will want more power than a cell phone.

  • Can I charge iPad in car

Just got an iPad.  Can I charge it in the car with a Belkin Micro charger.  It has 100mA on packet ?

100mA is only one fifth of what you get from a USB port, which will only charge the iPad if the screen is off. And that is only half of the power of the wall charger. I would suspect 100mA would be near as to totally ineffective.
