Charging iPhone 3Gs when turned off.

I have had my iPhone 2 days and I have realised that it does not charge when turned off. If I turn the phone off and insert the wire (wall plug or USB on computer) the phone automatically turns on and when I turn it off it doesn't charge. Has anyone got any suggestions as to why this happens or any ways to fix it. I'm new to Apple products so I would much appreciate anyones help!

If you plug it in while on, then turn it off, it should charge just fine (although you will have no indication it is charging, since it is off).
If you turn it off and THEN plug it in, it will start up. That's just the way it is.

Try forcing the phone into recovery mode and restore as a new device.
Follow these steps:
iOS: How to back up your device and setup as a new device

Doing this will help eliminate any possible software issue that could be causing this. Setting up a new device will bypass a backup with possible data corruption.
If the issue continues after this, you should contact Apple for service for the phone as it will very likely be a hardware issue.

My iPhone 3GS sometimes turns off for no apparent reason? Sometimes this has happened mid-call but mostly it just happens upon random, if anyone knows how to solve this problem or has had this problem In the past, I would be grateful for any replies. Thanks

Noting i have updates to latest os software 4.3.5 in Aug 5th but it happened to me again?
is it battery problem? Shall i send it for service and maintenance??

I'm using iPhone 4 iOS 6.1, and today I found out that I can't charge my iPhone when it's turned on. It charges only when it's turned off.
Is there any way to fix this or it is hardware problem and I have to take my iPhone to a fixing lab?

Standard troubleshooting...
Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
If still a problem restore with your backup.
If still a problem restore as new, i.e. without your backup. See how it runs with nothing synced to it.
If still a problem, it's likely a hardware issue.

The phone was not dropped or wet, but jut went off, it's charged all night and still after a few hard resets it will not switch on? is it dead?

Sounds like you need a new battery. My 3GS got the point of just turning off rather than shutting itself down properly so I knew due to the age of the phone it was the battery.
I got an ebay battery replacement for £12 + a set of tools for the job for about £4.
But please note relpacing the battery is not for the faint hearted!

Why does my iphone 3gs keep turning off

Hi My iphone keeps turning off when i'm using it but there is always lots of battier power left. it does it when i use the camea and some of the other apps like zombie land and wieght watchers. some times it will not turn back on for a few mins. it really silly is there anything i can do to fix this as i don't have the money to get a new one. and i really do love my iphone. please help.

This can be caused by faulty battery. Make Genius reservation and take the iPhone to Apple Store for free quick battery diagnostic testing.

It sounds like you are pressing the top Sleep/Wake button and the phone seems to shutdown rather than go to sleep, and occasionally youll see a purple screen rather than the Apple logo when you start it. I would start by resetting the phone, with these steps:
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
If the issue persists I would use the following article to backup your device to iTunes and restore it from your backup. If the issue persists, then restore it one more time as new using the same article to isolate to the backup file itself.

Took it to the store they immediately put it in there safe said it was extremely dangerous and would be replacing it and someone would be with me right away, after talking to 8+ ppl they told me it was beyond repair and there was nothing I can do and proceeded to give me the phone back and said be careful it's extremely
let dangerous, has anyone actually got a replacement out of this happening? My poor daughter or myself could have been seriously hurt! They said they don't even document it, there needs to be a recall or at very least a warming! This is insane, even if its not in warranty they need to be accountable for there products

My iPhone 3Gs randomly shutting off at any given moment. I could be in the middle of a text, a call, or doing some games and it'll just shut off.
Now here's the unique part. When I go to turn it back on, the apple loading screen pops up but it takes somewhere from 3-5 minutes for it to boot up. Then the lock screen with the time and whatnot shows up. From this point on, my iPhone has a chance to shut itself back down and I have to repeat the process over and over again. Most of the time the lock screen flashes and then goes straight to black (shut down) but sometimes I can make it a few menus before it shuts itself down.
The only way to keep the iPhone on is to plug it into a charger of any sort. I'm fairly certain it isn't a battery charge issue because this happens at any % of power and sometimes my iPhone can use up all of its charge and not have this happen while other times I can be at 90-100% and it could randomly shut itself down. What can I do in this situation if some has some solution to this problem please let me know on [email protected] Thanks!
