Charging Iphone from a 12v VRLA battery

Hi
When I am fishing I can be away from home for up to 3 days with no mains power. With this I am thinking of charging my iphone from a 12v battery, but I don't know where I can find a cable which has the iphone connector, split to crocodile clips to attach to the battery
Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
Thanks

The PowerJolt is just a standard car charger for the iPhone 3G/3GS. I suggested an the croc to cig adapter with an iPhone car charger, listing the PowerJolt as one example of such a charger - Belkin, Kensington, lots of vendors make them. The brand doesn't matter, _as long as it is specified to work with the iPhone 3G/3GS_. That's an important distinction since most older car chargers for iPods, even though they have a dock connector, are delivering power over the FireWire power pins in the connector (no step-down required since FireWire can carry up to 18 V, meaning the adapters were cheaper to make, meaning more profit for the vendor) - older iPods and the Original iPhone could draw power from the FireWire pins, but the iPhone 3G and 3GS (along with newer iPods) cannot.

Is it ok to charge my iPhone from my MacBook regularly, or will this somehow effect the long term battery durability and duration?
    Thanks.

Likely no ill effects but charging anything from a computer's USB port is a veeeeery sloooow operation. I reserve that option only for when nothing else is available AND I do not need my MacBook Pro running on battery for anything--two conditions that are seldom if ever met.

  • Why need to charge iphone 6 Plus everyday the battery just last long for a day- My phone just 1 week old

I have to charge my phone everyday, The battery just last long for a day. Is that normal ? My phone just one week old.
    Please advise mates.

I would say that is well within the acceptable limits,
If you check out Apple's page here: http://www.apple.com/iphone-6/specs/
All the way at the bottom is the battery info. It states that you'll get up to 12 hours of battery on 3G/LTE. Of course, that number is obtained by following a very specific set of steps - the real world number is less.

  • Charging iphone from ipad charger

I just got an iPad Air with a 12W (5.2V/2.4A) standard charger for North America.
If I use this adapter to charge my iPhone 5C, I know it will charge, but will it damage my iPhone battery in the process? I've heard that using a charger that is not meant for that particular battery can drastically reduce the iPhone's battery life and I could be doing permanent damage to my phone's abaility to hold a charge. The little 2 pronged block my phone came with was only
Does anyone out there know if this is true, or does the phone have something internal to throttle incoming juice if it's more power than intended?

    Apple says it's OK.

  • Charge iPhone From AC While Syncing With Mac

    Here is the issue:
Upon arriving home, I connect iPhone to Mac for sync and it charges phone at same time. However, I power off Mac prior to charge being complete which forces me to move USB cable to AC.
    What is needed:
Some kind of USB switch or octopus cable that allows the iPhone to be connected to two USB sources at the same time, one being the Mac for sync and the other AC power. Thus I can power off the Mac and not have to switch cables.
I have a USB self-powered hub but when the Mac USB goes down so does the power on the hub.
I would like to get a dock but without the USB switch capability, it becomes a useless purchase.
    Anyone know a solution?

I was cabling the iPhone to a powered USB hub, one that provides power to downstream connections like the iPhone. When I powered off my Mac or put it to sleep mode, the hub knew it and dropped power. I now cable the iPhone directly to the Mac and the iPhone is charged when the Mac is in sleep mode.

  • Can I Charge iPod From MBP Running on Battery?

I realize this is a naive question but I am about to go on a long vacation and don't want to have to take too much gear. It would be convenient if I could simply plug the iPod into a USB port to charge it.
    TIA,

    Hi Bud,
Yes, while plugged into your MBP, your iPod will be charging. Have a nice trip!

  • How to charge iphone 5 correctly

    Hi everyone,
So Apple says to do a full cycle charge once a month (charge iphone from 0% to 100% and then do a reset) right?!
But during everyday use should I charge the phone for bit during the day? Or just charge every night before going to bed?
When the 20% alert shows you must charge the iphone to avoid a complete cycle charge?
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you

The purpose of the full cycle charge is to recalibrate the battery gauge. Lithium chemistry batteries are notoriously hard to manage, because their voltage does not drop linearly with state of charge, as most other secondary cells do. So the battery gauge monitors battery charge going in and battery drain going out, and computes the remaining life from this. But the battery's capacity drops with age, and the calculation isn't perfect. So after a while the gauge no longer knows what the state of charge actually is. The most obvious symptom of this is when the phone suddenly shuts off well above 1% remaining. When you run the battery all the way down, then charge fully, the charging circuit in the phone can re-establish the end points.
Anyway, the answer to your question is charge it whenever you want, except that you should periodically run it all the way down, then fully charge it (once a month, as Apple suggests). But not every day. According to Apple this does not affect the total lifetime of the battery.
Oh, one other point. The iPhone will not let you deep discharge the battery. When it shuts off at 1% there is still significant charge left. It's unusable charge, except to keep iOS alive. If you fly a plane there are 2 numbers you need to know - total fuel capacity, and useable fuel capacity, which is always lower. Same with Lithium batteries in electronics.

  • Will rapid charging hmm from 12watt charger for iphone 6 defect the battery??

guys I need help with charging with 12 watt charger for iPhone 6,will it defect battery??

    Courcoul wrote:
Yeah, you can use a higher-powered iPad charger with the iPhone (any model). There will be no gain in how fast it  charges, since that rate is controlled by the phone and not the charger. The iPhones and iPods draw the standard 0.5A charging current from whatever charger is used.
This was true up to the iPhone 6. However, the charging circuit in the iPhone 6 and 6+ can charge at a higher rate - 1.5 amps (7.5 watts) vs 1 amp (5 watts) for earlier models. 0.5 amps is the minimum required to charge any iPhone, however, all iPhones will charge faster with a 1 amp or higher adapter.
So using an iPad charger will cut the charging time to full charge by about 1/3.

Yes. Charging automatically stops when your battery is full, & you can't overcharge.

  • How to charge iPad from 12v dc

The I pad does not charge from the 12v dc in our camper. I phone does. Is an adapter available to solve the problem.

I imagine your using an iphone car charger and you see the message 'not charging' on the ipad, this message is somewhat misleading........iphone chargers typcally provide an output current of around 1amp (some third party chargers only .5amp)   which is only half of the 2amp output provided by apples ipad charger. In use, once the screen is on an ipad uses around 1amp an hour which means when your using an iphone charger the battery is not charging because your using as much power as the charger can provide, hence that message appears........but at the same time your not losing any power or will be losing at a much lower rate, and once you put your ipad to sleep it does charge, only very slowly.....try leaving it plugged in overnight you might be surprised the next morning.
You can of course buy a 2amp charger

or use an inverter so you can use your original apple mains charger

  • HT1476 my iphone wont charge even if im using new battery charger

my iphone 4 wont charge even if im using new battery charger please help me how to fix it..

Ignore the hysteria about destroying any Apple support by taking screwdrivers and levering devices to install batteries supplied from goodness knows where to you iPhone. Apple parts are NOT available from the Internet.
Logic: the charger is faulty. You might have covered this.
The cable is faulty. Have you tried a different cable?
The docking port is blocked By pocket fluff or other detritus. Have you checked this, and/ or tried to clean it out?
The phone is faulty: refer it to Apple.

Tried re charging through the computer and through the power but no response the phone is totally black... Tried connecting to I tunes and no response.. The thing  is that I bought the I phone 5 on the 23 rd December 2012 from Manhattan new York and I live in Qatar and there is no service centre in qatar .. I am now without a phone although I paid 706$ and that's a big amount .. I am disappointed .. I bought an original phone from the original apple store and I ended up with a product that didn't survive for a month.. What quality assurance do the apple have on their products...I need help here

    I appreciate the fast reply.
Well, I checked the iphone and the battery charged going from the bolt to the plug in the upper right hand corner very quickly. On my other cell phones, charging took a REAL long time.
Again, is this normal? I unplugged the iphone from the charger and I am going to monitor the battery power today. I find it odd that the battery would work on standby for 4 days without recharging the battery and then start doing something wacky. Any thoughts?

  • My iPhone 5s is loosing its battery very fast like if I charge it 80-90% at night then till morning it gets off. Please help is it battery problem or ios update. I updated it to ios 7.1

IPhone 5s battery getting drained up very soon is it problem of battery of its ios 7.1 problem.
Like if I charge it to 90% at night till 11 pm then till morning at 7 am I found it dead.
Please suggest me what to do.
Should I opt for battery replacement.

Return the iPhone personally or via friend/relative/co-worker who is in
the US. The warranty is valid only in the country of original purchase - the USA
in this case. Apple will not accept international shipments for evaluation nor
will Apple ship out of the country after repair/replacement.
How did the iPhone from the US get to you in India? Reverse that process to
get it back to the US so someone can take it into Apple.

You should be able to use the battery if you get a car type charger which recharges mobile devices.
The full size iPads use a 10-12W charger, whereas the mini uses a 5W charger. Many car chargers only supply 5W. But at 5W, the car charger should give you some extra time on your iPad. It would be best to use a 10-12W car charger.
