Charging iPhone via USB vs. FireWire

My iPhone charges fine when plugged into my computer via USB cable. However, it doesn't seem to charge when plugged in using the iPhone-to-Firewire cable. Is there a reason for this or do I have a faulty cable? Thanks for any help.

The iPhone has different power requirements for changing that Firewire does not use.

  • Multiple audio-outs via USB or Firewire?

I'm looking for a hardware solution for my mid-2010 MBP w/ 2-4 audio outputs via USB or Firewire.  On the software side, I want to have multiple media players open and playing simultaniously, but each output separately.  I was told m-audio makes devices that allow this, but I am curious which may be the cheapest with this capability - or alternate manufacturers.

I think you'd have better luck going to the m-audio forums and asking your question.

  • Help needed: blackberry keeps resetting or won't turn on after charging, especially via USB

This is a bit of an odd one and I'd appreciate any help that others can give me.
I've had my blackberry 8900 for about a year and a half now.
Whenever I charge my handset from an empty battery (e.g. this problem isn't a problem when I charge it if there's still some charge left) - either from the main power charger or via USB, I experience problems.
Whenever it's fully charged I unplug the charger and normally at this point it cuts out completely. The screen goes black and cuts out - it doesn't even go through the normal switch-off process. From then, it won't turn on for around 3 - 4 minutes (the red light occasionally appears on the top, although it's fully charged).
When it does turn on, it goes through a soft reset.
This is more of a problem when I charge it via USB but equally affects charging it from the mains as well.
    Any ideas?

It's fixable. First, charge it for several hours and then WITH the
charger still connected, remove the battery a minute and replace, and
    reboot.
If that does not do it, and it continues in the reboot loop

Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
    2)
On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line
exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
    "c:\program
    files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
    3)
The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
    4) In
the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN".
    Click the "Next" button.
    5) You should then see a list of
applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and
Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to
life. Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish
    completely.
NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications
mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop
Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that
you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service
provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's
Operating System for your carrier and device.
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads
    Just
select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry
model from the list and download the latest version. Install this
download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right
    path.

  • Computer reboots immediately if I connect my iPhone via usb or craddle

When I connect my iPhone to my computer, windows xp sp2 pro immediately starts detecting the iphone, at which point my computer reboots - everytime! I read online that the phone has issues with Intels RAID matrix software, and I should upgrade to 7.8 - did that. I also read that I should upgrade all my usb drivers - did that. I still have a condition where it reboots (ugly) immediately when I hookup my iphone via usb or craddle.

    mimckee,
Do you have a webcam built into your monitor? If so, is it a Logitech or based on Logitech hardware? This article discusses an issue that can occur with older drivers from Logitech or for other imaging devices that try to treat the iPhone as though it is one of their webcams:

  • Modem via USB or Firewire

I have a iBook G4 with OSX 10.3.9. The ethernet port is damaged and I like to connect to my DSL modem via USB or Firewire port. What do I need to do?

    hollywoodian,Welcome to the discussion area!
...and I like to connect to my DSL modem via USB or Firewire port. What do I need to do?
That is probably not possible. Your DSL modem may have a USB port but your iBook can only use that if the manufacturer of the DSL modem provides a Mac OS X compatible USB drivers for the modem. No DSL modems that I am aware of have FireWire ports.
Probably the easiest thing solution is to install an AirPort Extreme card in your iBook G4 and connect an inexpensive wireless router to your DSL modem. Then your iBook G4 will connect to the network wirelessly.

  • PCMCIA adaptor via USB or Firewire?

    Hi,
I really want to get connected using a PCMCIA external modem here in Melbourne (through iBurst providing wireless coverage over many klms!), but ofcourse the G4 Powerbook 12" doesn't have a PCMCIA slot. Is it possible to get an adaptor via USB or firewire? Do you think it would work okay with such new technology dedicated to the PCMCIA slot? (I have had trouble contacting the company iBurst personally to ask!)
    Thanks,
    Tim

I have found a couple of things as i have been looking too...
One will do it but it seems as though it's availabel for OEM only (maybe we could get enough folk together and get some!?)
Other seems to offer all the connections but the blurb about it says otherwise.
http://www.elandigitalsystems.com/usb/u111.php - will work by the sounds...
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=109293 - odd, seems to be exactly what is required but the text says otherwise... i've emailed them.

  • How to charge Z1 via USB to PC?

How to charge Z1 via USB to PC?
    Thanks people

Its got to do with the charging power. The original charger for the Z1 outputs 1.5Amps, most lower end car chargers barely output 0.5Amps which is the lowest power rating for USB charging. The ports on yours computer give out 0.5Amps that's why it takes for ever to charge a Z1 through a computer. Even though they all out out the same 5 Volts, the Ampere is different. Try to find a car charger that gives out 1.5Amps and you will be fine

  • How not to charge the iphone via USB

I was wondering if it is possible not the charge the iphone while it is plugged to the USB port of my laptop. I am just asking that as sometimes I just want to add new songs/apps without actually charging my iphone via the USB port as I prefer to do it once the battery is at 10% .
Many thanks in advance for your help/advices.
    Regards
    Alberto

    In a word, no.
There is no harm with charging a lithium based battery more frequently and when at any battery level and without having to charge the battery to 100% when doing so.

  • Connecting via USB and FireWire at the same time...

    Hey all,
I have a 3rd Generation iPod (with the play/pause, menu, next track and previous track buttons between the screen and the touch wheel), and I just bought a new Nano.
Obviously, I want to keep them both synced with my MBP, but there's a problem. The 3G will sync via the Dock-to-USB cable, but it will only charge and sync with Dock-to-FireWire. The Nano, on the other hand, doesn't support FireWire.
So, in order to sync/charge them both, I have to use a different cable for each.
Or, do I? Apple sells a Dock-to-USB-AND-FireWire cable (one Dock Connector with two wires coming out). I'd love to plug both the USB and FireWire connectors to the MBP and then just plug the Dock connector into one iPod and then into the other. But, in the documentation for the cable, it says not to connect both the FireWire and USB ends to the computer at the same time, or it might result in "unexpected behavior."
Does anybody out there have any experience using this cable with both ends connected at the same time? Does it work? Have you noticed any "unexpected behavior?"
I wanted to check before I go defying Apple's instructions.
    Thanks,

  • ITunes has stopped launching when I plug in my iPhone via USB

Two things have stopped working with my iPhone recently.
    1.  iTunes no longer launches automatically when I plug in my iPhone to my iMac via USB.
    2.  The iPhone Notes app has stopped syncing via USB lead between the iPhone and the iMac.
I have tried closing applications, and rebooting both the iPhone and iMac, but this makes no difference.
I'm running OS X 10.6.8 on my iMac.
My iPhone is a 3G running iOS 4.2.1
    Can anyone help?
This sounds like a bug introduced by a recent software update.  Is anyone at Apple listening?

For point 1 have a look on your Mac:
Settings | System | Users & Groups | Your Account | Login Items
and see if iTunesHelper is there and ticked. If it has a yellow warning symbol next to it it has lost were to find this app which brings up iTunes when you connect devices.
It could have been messed up by an upgrade of iTunes. To set it up again you can add it to the 'Login Items' again. The iTunesHelper application is buried inside the iTunes application special folder:
    Applications > iTunes > Contents > MacOS > iTunesHelper
you can navigate to it by looking at the package contents for iTunes (right click it). You can't add it by choosing the '+' button because you have to look inside iTunes.
Open Users & Groups, your account, Login Items then next to it
Open a Finder window navigate to iTunesHelper like above and then drag icon for it into the Login Items window.

  • Possible to charge pb with usb or firewire cable through ipod charger?

    hello,
i forgot to pack my pb charger for my trip. i do have my ipod charger. would it be possible to charge with that by using the firewire to firewire cable or firewire to usb cable? i haven't tried yet for fear of ruining something.
    cheers.
    powerbook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

USB and Firewire - from the Powerbook is one way traffic - ie the PowerBook pumps power out. It doesn't need to take power from a peripheral such as an ipod so it's not set up to do so.
As for "borrrowing" a supply from Apple, you don't know unless you ask. If you're away from home for a month might it be worth getting someone from home to send it to you?
There are local Apple user groups in major cities, so you could page apple users in those cities to see if you can borrrow a power supply.
Or you might have to bite the bulllet and just buy another - either from Apple, ebay or even Criagslist. You might find a slightly cheaper 3rd part adapter somewhere.
Sorry can't help any more. Good luck.

  • Sync mail from Outlook to iPhone via USB Cable

I have a problem by synchronizing my iPhone with my Outlook 2007.
I want to synchronize my Outlook mail, contacts and calendar by using iTunes.
I have set iTunes to synchronize via USB Cable and it works for the contacts and calendar but I can’t see my mail.
I assume the mail should be at the bottom “Mail” on my iPhone?
I have set iTunes to sync mail to Outlook but I can’t se anything
How do I set op iTunes to sync my mail to the phone?
Please help as I can only find answers for problems with Push server….
    Thanks in advance:)

iTunes does not support syncing email account mailboxes and messages with an email client on your computer. The option under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes for email accounts is for transferring the email account settings from a supported application on your computer to the iPhone's Mail client only so you don't have to manually create the account.
If you want to keep mailboxes synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account, you need an IMAP account which is specifically designed for this.
