Charging iPod Nano on Windows 2000

I bought an iPod for Christmas and successfully registered it and charged it on my work computer which has Windows XP.
My home computer only has Windows 2000 and it won't charge on it. I know you can;t use the latest version of iTunes on Windows 200 but I thought you should be able to charge the iPod on any computer ??
Any ideas or suggestions ?

I'm in the same boat as Noah (Win2K, charging problems, etc.). And the moment I unmount my nano (using either of the methods you mention above), it stops charging. At least I assume it is actually charging while mounted, because I have the lightning bolt but no way to see how much of a charge unless I unmount it. But I can't listen to music while I have it plugged in, and that is sure a disappointment. Apple people, please fix!
As a little aside, I don't seem to be able to choose whether or not to "enable disk use". The box is already checked and grayed-out so I don't have the option to un-check it. Could this be another Win2K weirdness?

I am having problems importing to my Ipod nano via windows 8.  I usually do this from a windows 7 computer and have had no problems; hoever in windows 8 I can only see items purchased in the Itunes store.  I do not have access to my entire library, which includes song uploaded from CDs and some videos.  As a result, I'm having problems uploading any new items from CDs or DVDs.  The computer with windows 8 is an authorized computer, so I don't understand why I'm having the problem.

  • IPOD NANO 4GB - Windows XP

When my son plugs his iPOD into his Windows XP computer using USB, he gets an error message stating that the USB device is not recognized by computer. It shows the USB port that he is using and he has tried it in all USB ports and gets the same message.
Aside from telling him he should have bought a MAC like his old man, what else can we do to get his iPOD to work with his Windows computer?

    Debbie:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I just had a similar problem in trying to connect a 30 GB 5G iPod to a Windows 2000 PC. A couple of suggestions.
    1. Try restarting the computer with the iPod plugged into the USB port and the iPod turned on before you restart it. This may prompt Windows to recognize the iPod.
    2. Download the 11-17 iPod software update for Windows onto the PC and try to do a restore to the iPod with the newer software. This amy not work if the PC will not recognize the iPod at all.
    3. After several hours of not getting it to work, I did a restore of the iPod on my Mac using the 11-17 iPod software update that you can download form the Apple site. This will cause the iPod to not be compatable on Windows but it did allow me to get the message from iTune that I needed to reformat the iPod for Windows. At that point use the 11-17 update for Windows.
    4. Tell him he should have bought a Mac like his old man.
    Hope tyhis helps.

  • Do you need a converter to charge Ipod nano (5th gen) using a non-Apple wall charger/plug adapter in Switzerland?

do you need a converter to charge Ipod Nano (5th gen) using a non-Apple wall charger/adapter plug in Switzerland? or is the Ipod Nano dual-voltage?

None of the iDevices are multi-voltage themselves...the chargers from Apple are all 110-240 volt.  You will have to look at the non-Apple charger you have and see if it says it handles 110-240 volts.  Most made today are capable of that range, or they would have to make a different item for each country.
All you probably need is a plug-pin converter, can find those in the airport, at least in Zurich, don't know about Geneva.

  • Can I use my Samsung Wall USB charger to charge iPod Nano (6th gen)? (output is 5.0V, 0.7A)

Can I use my Samsung Wall USB charger to charge iPod Nano (6th gen)? (output is 5.0V, 0.7A)

My biggest concern is that it will fry the circuitry. I don't know what the Amp output is on the Mac-branded wall charger, but I think that USB 2.0 usually only goes up to 0.5A.

Quick answer is: You can if it works, but it is not recommended.
    Hope this helps.

  • HT4354 Is there another way to charge iPod nano besides connecting it to computer?

Is there another way to charge iPod nano besides connecting it to computer?

There's various kinds of power adaptors available: for mains power from Apple and third parties, and for charging in a car from third parties. Plenty of options available to allow for shopping around.

  • Can't see brand new iPod Nano in Windows!!!

I just bought a brand new iPod Nano (2nd Gen) for my daughter for Christmas, and right out of the box it would not be recognized by Windows XP or iTunes -- even though another iPod Nano (1st Gen) that we own did connect. It was charging though.
I used this forum looking for answers and although helpful, there was an awful lot of misleading advice. I finally called the help line 1-800-275-2273 on this website http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
What I was told was to simply go through the reset process (which I had ignored because it seemed too simple). The steps are to flip the hold button a couple of times and then hold the menu and select (center) button down at the same time for 10 seconds. The iPod will power back up and be reset.
What this tells me is that Apple has a problem with the software originally loaded on these iPods, but at least this simple procedure solved the problem. I thought I would come back here and provide you with the solution to this problem -- hopefully saving you a lot of time! Good luck!!

I agree with you, Apple to me has some type of problem with their iPods. I've used some type of computer device since 1971, and in all this time, I have never used a device such as the iPod with so many quirks.
I tell you one thing the iPod makes you think!!! O;-D
I'm afraid to buy Apple Care because during the 1st year of owning an iPod you get support that really is not much help. Within the 1st year of owning an iPod, a customer can purchase the Apple Care Plan. The Apple Care Plan is only 2 years, and then you are on your own. If Apple had confidence in their iPod's, they would offer a longer warranty period.
The only thing I see Apple Care is good for is that if something catastrophic happen, they will pay for shipping and any parts that are needed to fix it.
Their stock is doing great. Where is the money going???

  • ITunes displays -48 error message when syncing iPod Nano on Windows XP

My girlfriend's mom's iPod Nano ran out of charge while jogging so she decided to charge it on her daughter's iHome. The next day she went to use her iPod but it was totally empty of all music and files. When she tried to sync it to iTunes, she received an eror message stating, "An unknown error has occurred (-48)" from iTunes and a Windows message stating that some iPod folder/file was corrupted.
If anyone receives such a message, I was able to correct it by:
-Plugging in your iPod to your PC
    -Ignore the error messages
    -Go to My Computer
-Find your iPod's drive letter (ie. G:)
-Right-click on it and select Properties
-Go to Tools Tab >Error-checking and select Check Now
You should be able to sync your iPod as before. I do not claim to be an expert so be warned that it may not work for you. Good luck!

    Hey ermides,
Thanks for the question. The following resource provides information if you are receiving a -50 error message when syncing:

  • Connecting IPOD Nano to Windows ME machine

Can anyone tell me how to make the new IPOD nano that my Mother got for Christmas work with their Windows ME machine.
Windows ME will not download Itunes. Isn't there some other way to get music onto the Nano.
They tried to get help from a dealer but he told them they were out of luck.
They don't live near me and I am doing all my troubleshooting by phone.
If there is another program that they could use that is simple to install on their machine that would be great.
    Thanks for the help.

iTunes for Windows was first introduced for Windows 2000 so there isn't a version that works natively with either 98 or ME. You could have a look at XPlay, Anapod or Ephpod which will work with Windows 98/ME. However XPlay and Anapod are commercial programs so you might consider it worth the extra expense to upgrade to XP (which you may find at a discount price now that Vista is out) if the computer will run it. You also need to check that those programs will work with the latest iPods which have had changes made to the software. Staying with 98/ME, you may also require drivers, there is a link in the Anapod page to suitable iPod/USB drivers:

  • Nano on windows 2000

is there really no way to download the newest version of i-tunes to windows 2000 so that the nano can be used with win2000.

Win2k is NOT supported by iTunes. However, you CAN mount the new iPods on a Win2k machine as an external USB hard-drive. This would allow you to back it up to some other hard-drive or DVD-R. Of course, it also allows you to use 3rd party programs to export music, sync calendars/contacts/notes/etc; just no iTunes (and music/video)

  • Trouble loading ipod nano to windows me

I am operating on Windows Me. Is there a way to connect my Ipod Nano to this system?

not using itunes, i'm afraid. that only runs on 2000 or XP. there might be some 3rd party applications that might help though.
it might be best to head to ilounge or ipod garage forums to check on those. there are a few links mentioned in here too:

  • Charging iPod nano

    Hi,
I have a strange question: I homemade an AC charger for my nanos (I actually have two, a 4GB mine and a 2GB for my daughter), by solding an USB female connector to the output cable of an AC/DC charger (from a broken Ericsson cell phone). I checked both voltage and current (nano requires 5 - 30 V, 1A max; the charger output is 7,6V , 600mA - both should match), then tried to charge, and here is the strange result:
-My 4GB nano seems to recharge (actually, the battery icon slowly flashes, I'm not sure it's the correct behaviour, up to now I always used the PC's USB to recharge, and there it's still but with the little lighting).
    - My daughter's nano (2GB), instead, gives no sign of life when plugged into the charger. I mean, no charging icon appears if it's turned on, or it remains completely turned off if it was already in this condition (the other nano wakes up immediately when plugged).
Does anyone have an explanation for this behaviour?
Anyway, I think I'll purchase the original Apple charger, even it's quite expensive (29,00 EUR in Italy...).
    Thanks,
    Ivan

Yup. Only thing about firewire that does not work with the Nano is the data-transfer (music or files) -- sadly. The iPod Nano probably accepts juice from anything that can juice a docked iPod, including those cool emergency chargers.

  • Charging iPod nano issues

I have no problem updating my iPod nano. I connect easily and iTunes opens and updates the iPod. When I initially connect, the charge signal comes on. However, after updating the iPod stops charging - even though it is still connected. The only way I can find to get it to start charging is to disconnect and reconnect a couple of times and it will eventually work. This usually causes iTunes to freeze on me but at least it starts the iPod nano charging. Is there some reason why the iPod nano would not continue to charge?

u could also try getting a dock or a wall charger.
i suppose, but i shouldn't need to. it's frustrating that the PC does charge the iPod - I just need to try several times and every time it works is when iTunes freezes up.
it does charge until the update is complete so it's almost like the completion of the update is telling the iPod that it doesn't need to charge any more also.....
