Charging iPod's battery - how much? how long?

Is there any indicator of the iPod's battery when its connected to my Mac? By that, I mean, is there any way to see how long it will take to charge my iPod's battery? and how can I tell when it is fully charged?
The battery on my MacBook Pro does all those things. I would like to know how to tell when my iPod is fully charged. Or, if it needs a charge, how long it will take, approximately.
Right now, the only thing I can figure out to do is to eject the iPod and then look at its own batter indicator to see how "full" it is. Not a classy solution, by any means.

Hi Mr. Jingle,
What myserables is trying to say is that it will take a few hours to charge. As the newer iPods (160GB in 2009) have a rapid charge feature (as noted on this tech specs page: http://www.apple.com/ipodclassic/specs.html)... So within 2 hours it will have 80% of the battery power back in the device and a 4 hour charge for a complete... Stating the device is drained out completely.
But also while the iPod is connected to your PC/MAC or wall the battery indicator in the upper right hand corder should still show... While charging it will have a lightning bolt in the battery indicator.... When fully charged it will have a wall plug picture.
Equally in iTunes, you will see a similar logo next to your iPod. That logo will also show a percentage factor underneath the lightning bolt when charging, and then go to the plug when fully charged. So you shouldn't need to eject it constantly, as both devices give you an indicator while connected.
Hope this clarifies the charging factor times for you!

  • Ipod Mini battery - how long?

I have a 2nd gen Ipod mini 4Gb. I estimate that the battery lasts 10 - 12 hrs max with 50% vol and minimal hunting round the menu. I have just got an itrip and despite griffin's statements, it looks like its chewing battery!
How long do you folks get with normal operation and how long with an itrip mini attached?

I have a 2g 4GB mini and the itrip, On a few long car trips I've found that a full battery will last 7-8 hours, beyond that I had to buy a car charger. On about 10+ car trips the battery has lasted into the 7-8 hour range.
    Hope that helps.

  • Your S10 Battery-How Long It Lasts Just Using Internet????

I am just curious how long your standard battery lasts with just using the internet? I bought my S10 used and battery life increased using Windows 7, but lasts 30 minutes at the most just using the internet.
Contemplating getting a new battery depending upon responses.
Can you give me an average on how long your battery lasts on your S10 with  Energy Settings set for balance?
    Appreciated, thanks!

I get maybe a day with mine, but then again, I never believed the "EDGE is not so power hungry" lie that Apple tells. 3G is by and large less power hungry because the cells are closer, and the base stations are lower (vertically) than standard GSM towers. Your mileage will vary in regards to what you do with your iPhone. I use mine so I have no problems charging it all the time. Besides, I have had it about 3 weeks and I plan to sell it anyway once Nokia releases their new handsets after the new year. The iPhone should be called, iPod with phone as it does really suffer in the telephony category.

  • Cant charge ipod mini battery

have a new ipod mini tried to charge it with the usb and there is a battery sign with an ! mark my USB is 2.0 can anyone help

    Here are all the tips:
Not all USB ports charge the iPod the same, or at all...
Especially if your PC USB port is lower powered. Some PC USB ports do not deliver enough power to adequately charge the iPod's battery. The AC charger delivers a full 1 amp charge. Rarely does a PC USB port (particularly in laptops) provide this much charging power. Expect faster charge-up times using an AC adapter. Even a DC car charger may help.
For any PC, but especially laptops, verify via the Windows Device Manager, that the unit DOES NOT cut power to the USB busses as a power saving measure.
Make sure that you actually have a USB port that works and is the
    i high-powered
USB2 variety. Unfortunately, some laptops do not have them at all, and some desktops have them only in the rear. First try connecting to one of the USB ports on the rear of your computer, if possible.
NOTE: Most, if not all, USB ports will not charge the iPod when the PC ‘hibernates’ or is off. In fact, it can further drain your battery.
Here is a helpful Article: iPod's Battery Doesn't Charge
See this link for a good bit of info: The iPod Battery Unplugged..
i A synopsis of it is as follows
"For best results, try not to use computer ports to charge your iPod. USB is especially sensitive to how many devices are on it and what the resulting bus voltage is. It may even display the charging icon but not be adding much to the battery. USB versions prior to 2.0 will not charge your iPod (and probably be too slow for its other functions). Even USB 2.0 is limited to 700 milliamps and an iPod "likes" to see one full amp for charging, plus some to spin the HD while mounted. Some (early) iPod models will not charge from USB, period. Some PCs use 4-pin Firewire cables (all Macs are 6-pin) which carry no charging voltage, so they won't work at all for recharging and can allow your iPod to run down and cause serious problems while updating firmware, restoring, or loading songs. Both USB and Firewire require the iPod to be mounted by your computer as an external drive, which means the iPod's HD is spinning, using some of the juice that the battery might like to have. And if the computer sleeps or is turned off, the battery won't charge and in some cases will actually drain through the port circuits. Bottom line: if your ports are not doing a good job of charging your battery, use the wall adapter to charge for several cycles before questioning the battery's credentials. If you have a new iPod which only comes with USB, don't panic; it can work fine. But if you do experience problems, either take everything else off the USB bus (except mouse & keyboard) and/or get an AC adapter."
b Here is another possible way to obtain a charge
I have not tested this myself, but some reports on these Discussions indicate that it does work:
With the iPod disconnected from the PC, open up "my computer". You will see all the available drives. Now, plug the iPod into the USB port on your computer. As soon as you plug it in, watch the "my computer" window for the external drive (your iPod) to open up. As soon as it does, double click on it. It should remain charging for you (and your iPod will say ‘Do Not Disconnect’). Don't close out of it until you think the charging is complete (about 4 hours). It appears as though, as long as the iPod is communicating with the computer, it is charging.

  • HT1349 charging battery- how long should it take?

I forgot to charge my iphone over night, I woke up to find it completely dead. I plugged it in to charge. The screen was black and showed signal of life. Its been charging for 10 hours now. I checked my outlets and they are fine. Is this normal?

You can try installing this free app.
It'll take approximate 8 hours to fully charge. Do not disconnect until the trickle charge is completed, otherwise you'll get approx. 1.5 hour less usage time.

  • Fully charged ipod losing battery while off

I have a Nano. When I shut it off after fully charging, and put the hold button on, the next day when I turn it on the battery is low. What is going on?

Have you tried just not putting the hold button on when the iPod is off?

  • Charging ipod mini battery

When I go for a one hour walk with my ipod mini, I recharge the battery as soon as I return home. Is this bad for the battery? Should I instead wait to "charge" it until the battery is quite low?

All iPOD batteries have a FINITE amount of charge/discharge cycles in them.
If you only run down the battery a quarter of the way every day, then you are basically putting a quarter charge back on each time. Four days of this would equal one FULL discharge and recharge cycle.
The only time it really matters is when you first get the iPOD and need to calibrate the battery meter. To do this, you charge the iPOD up to full, and then put it into play mode and let it play and play until it is totally out of juice. The easiest way to do this is to put it into shuffle and repeat mode and just let it go without listening to it. Turning on the backlight the whole time will speed the discharge process.
You will get a little warning message telling you to plug it into the wall when it is done. Charge it back to full and the calibration is complete.
You shouldn't need to do that again unless your meter starts giving you a false reading.

  • How long does your battery take to charge?

this is only my second laptop and the battery on my first one went pretty quickly, so i dont really know long its supposed to take to charge
so... how long does it take, and how long does it take for the battery to drain

Im not sure how long exactly it takes to charge it. I would say about 2 hours maybe 3 at the most. I use mine plugged in ost of the time, so its not unplugged much. I get great battery life out of mine. I had it off AC for about 3 hours the other night and still had 40 mins left according to the battery monitor. This is with the brightness all the way up.

  • How long does it (ipod shuffle 1st gen) take to charge

I have an iphone 4, and this morning i found my old ipod shuffle. How long does it take? i want to know if it still works.

It could take up to 30 minutes before the Shuffle shows any signs of life.  I assume you are using the same cable that was originally included with the Shuffle when you purchased it?
How long has it been since it was last used.  If it's been an extended period of time, the battery may be totally shot on the device as an iPod's batteries need constant activity in order to build and maintain a charge.

  • How long does a charge last?

Let's say I fully drain the battery on my ipod touch 3g, how long should i leave it charging via a wall usb adapter (not through computer usb). This isnt clear in the manual.

It's most likely you're running applications in the background, consuming the battery.
To prevent freezing or lagging/slow response and quick battery drain on any BlackBerry, the most important practice you can adopt is to be sure to CLOSE applications when you are finished using them.
If you just hit the red "end call" key to go back to the home screen the application actually stays open and running in the background. If you do this repeatedly you will have lots of apps open and consequently your battery and memory will get used up.
To check what applications are running on your device in the background, press the Menu key then choose Switch Applications. You will see the icons of each application there.
So now, check your applications running in the background. There are commonly four or five applications that will always be running (Messages, Call Logs/Phone, BlackBerry Messenger, Homescreen, and the Browser; there are other third party applications such as BeeJive, and BlackBerry Alerts which will also run in the background which you cannot close if you want them to operate). Make certain that the browser is NOT on an active webpage (open the browser and choose Menu > Close). Close any other applications that do not need to be running (the camera or a game you were playing or Google Maps).

  • How long is the battery life?

    Just curious

If you mean a fully charged iPod Classic battery, when new, it is about 40 continuous hours of music or about 6 hours of video.
However, it has a shelf life of about 400 recharge cycles, which mean if you recharge once a week, it will last about 6-8 years, although it is not linear, as the capacity is reduced over every recharge, and you may have to recharge more than once a week.
Most iPod after the first year, has about 30 hours of continuous music, and about 4-5 hours of video.
    Have a nice day!

  • I recently discovered my ipod touch would no longer turn on. All it does is show the low battery sign, and that is if it's connected to a computer. No matter how long I leave it charging, it does that. Is there a way to fix it?

Hi, I recently discovered my ipod touch would no longer turn on. I've tried everything! All it does is show the low battery sign, and that is if it's connected to a computer. No matter how long I leave it charging, it does that. Is there a way to fix it? All I want are my contacts and my old calendar back. These did not sync with iTunes like my photos, music, and video. I can probably get an older, replacement iPod, but I don't want to have to readd all my important dates and reminders, as well as contact information. I guess I have two questions:
    1) is there a way to get my ipod to start working again?
    2) is there a way to get my old contacts and calendar back again?

    Try here:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
To get the calender and contacts back if you can't get the iPod working is to restore the new iPod from the backup of the old one.
