I'm taking it in to get it looked at but will they cover this? And is there a way to fix it before I take it in. I'm still under the 1 year warranty plan. My friend said that they might exchange it. It's a 64GB and I use it for a lot of things like my picture, music, contacts, and email. It's got scratches on the back but other wise its ok the screen isn't cracked or scratched.
I have a usb charger for it but when I plug it into the PC or my wall charger it won't charge. It just says "Charging is not supported with this device". It even says that sometimes when it's not charging. But it works on a dock station like my clock or radio.
Also my home buttom won't work unless I press down real hard. This scares me because I'm afraid I wil persss it too hard and break it even more.
Please help.- See:
iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
- Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
- Try another charging source
- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

What does this message mean Charging is not supported with this device?
What does this message mean Charging is not supported with this device?
You've gotten 2 good answers already, but there's a key assumption in both that you got the message when connecting the iPhone to some other device. If this is the case you can get an adapter in the Apple online store that will allow charging from older devices.
If, however, this message appears when you are not connected to anything the problem is dirt or moisture in the dock connector at the bottom of the phone. Clean it with a dry toothbrush or air blast. -
!Charging is not supported with this device! When using original charger.
My iPhone4 suddenly won't take a charge. Because I carry it in my pocket, I suspected there was a lack of conductivity. I used air to clean the slot and a small plastic pick. Some dust bunnies came out of the slot and I plugged it in to charge. I got the message, "!Charging is not supported with this device!" This didn't make sense, because I was using the same original charger that I've been using for 2 years.
Any suggestions? The dock connector may be damaged or the cable may be damaged, try a different cable.

My iPad 5 will not charge, I get the message " CHARGING IS NOT SUPPORTED WITH THIS DEVICE
I get the message " CHARGING IS NOT SUPPORTED WITH THIS DEVICE. I've checked different cables and chargers ( from our other iPad 5, and cleaned the port, but it won't charge plugged into the computer or ghargers.
If charging will not work with valid cables and chargers and the Lightning port is clear, there is likely a hardware issue. Take the iPad to an Apple store genius bar and have it tested by the techs.

What does it mean when it says that charging is not supported by this device?
I had forgotten to bring my iPod charger with me, so I decided to use my sisters MP3 charger. The plug to the charger fits, and when I plug it into the computer everything works, it lets me sync my iPod, update it, transfer purchases and everything. The only thing that it won't let me to is charge it, which makes no sense to me. It also shows on my iPod screen that my iPod is fully charged when its actually nearly dead. Does anyone know whats going on, and if so is there anyway to fix this??
Some important information: i have an iPod touch, and even though it says it can't charge the iPod remains alive even though when unplugged it says that its dying.
thanks(:well, Apple only allows certified chargers to charge the device to protect it from any overloads of power etc. so try and find a different one that supports your device and its generation.

When I use the same cable with the wall adapter it charges just fine.
LOL My situation is the opposite. plug my iPhone 3GS with USB cable and attach to mini adaptor (or whatever the small one is called) and it does not charge. Connect the same iPhone 3GS to my MacBook, using same cable, an charging takes place for iPhone. Then, connected the iPhone to the AC power with the large Apple AC adaptor and it always charges. Seems to be the small adaptor and sometimes a third party automobile adapter.
At first I thought this might be because I was using third party USB cable, but now wonder about that since there are so many problems that others are having.
Having scoured the discussions, it appears no definitive answer has been given. Am I wrong. Maybe I never found the answer to what is happening here.
if you can help, please reply to help all of us with the issue still - June 2011.

when i plug my phone into the usb port with the apple charger that came with my phone i get an error msg say charging not supported by this device. But when i use a gigaware (radioshack brand) usb charger, no error msg. Why?
- Try restoring the iPod, first from backup and then try to factory settings/new iPod to rule out a software problem.
- Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, foreign material and broken or cracked plastic.
- Could you have damaged something when you took the iPod apart and replaced the Home button? -

Charging not supported by this device
My iHome docking station does not charge my iPod and the message says, charging not supported by this device. How do I fix it, an update?
What generation iPod Touch do you have? The 3rd and 4th generations iPod Touch can update to 5.0.1 but it won't change your situation. What does your iHome docking station manual says?

Can you turn off the "Charging not supported with this device" messages?
I recently bought a standard dock extender cable in order to connect my iPad to my Apple HiFi and have had music from Pandora constantly interrupted by sporadic "Charging not supported with this device" messages. The messages will continue to come up repeatedly despite pressing the "Dismiss" bar repeatedly.
Is there a way to turn those kinds of warnings off in either iPad Settings or in iTunes when docking the iPad?Try connecting the iPad to the iPod Hi-Fi with a male to male mini-stereo cable. I use one of these cables to connect my Airport Express to my iPod Hi-Fi, so that I can use it with AirTunes.
You can even combine the cable with the Apple iPad Dock, which would let you charge the iPad while using it with the iPod Hi-Fi. -

Error message charging is not supported with this accessory
I have an iPhone 3GS from Jul 2009. Fully updated. I normally charge it using a USB port on my MacBook Pro so it also syncs at the same time. This week began getting an alert on my phone which said "charging is not supported with this accessory". I resolved initially by unplugging/replugging the cord. In all cases the phone had been charging for some time before the alert appeared. In most cases the phone was sitting on the same surface as the macbook and had not been moved since beginning charge.
The only support document I can find refers to firewire and does not apply to my device.
Since starting this week it is happening more frequently and may require being re-connected several times.
It is still intermittent issue but I depend on my phone.
Thank you for your assistanceI just found some on eBay for about 1.99 each with free shipping and ordered about 6 of them from the seller, I think they came from China so it takes a couple weeks. So far I never got a bad cable, but if you do use eBay please check their feedback to make sure they have a history of delivering quality cables and working cables. Always pay using PayPal if possible so you don't lose your money. There are online sites like Meritline and such that have cheaper cables for direct sales with PayPal checkout and free shipping.
I use the 6' cable in the car, so I don't have figure where to put the iPhone or iPod when plugged into the stereo and it is helpful to have them when trying to charge when the plug is being a dresser or something when I travel.
I also like the retractable cables ($0.99)
I also have the Scosche FlipSYNC Keychain cable too, a bit expensive, but you always have a cable with you just in case.
