!Charging is not supported with this device! When using original charger.

My iPhone4 suddenly won't take a charge. Because I carry it in my pocket, I suspected there was a lack of conductivity. I used air to clean the slot and a small plastic pick. Some dust bunnies came out of the slot and I plugged it in to charge. I got the message, "!Charging is not supported with this device!" This didn't make sense, because I was using the same original charger that I've been using for 2 years.
Any suggestions?

The dock connector may be damaged or the cable may be damaged, try a different cable.

  • My ipod touch 3rd gen doesnt work on usb charger but on dock it says "Charging is not supported with this device" How do I fix it?

I'm taking it in to get it looked at but will they cover this? And is there a way to fix it before I take it in. I'm still under the 1 year warranty plan. My friend said that they might exchange it. It's a 64GB and I use it for a lot of things like my picture, music, contacts, and email. It's got scratches on the back but other wise its ok the screen isn't cracked or scratched.
I have a usb charger for it but when I plug it into the PC or my wall charger it won't charge. It just says  "Charging is not supported with this device". It even says that sometimes when it's not charging. But it works on a dock station like my clock or radio.
Also my home buttom won't work unless I press down real hard. This scares me because I'm afraid I wil persss it too hard and break it even more.
    Please help.

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

What does this message mean Charging is not supported with this device?

You've gotten 2 good answers already, but there's a key assumption in both that you got the message when connecting the iPhone to some other device. If this is the case you can get an adapter in the Apple online store that will allow charging from older devices.
If, however, this message appears when you are not connected to anything the problem is dirt or moisture in the dock connector at the bottom of the phone. Clean it with a dry toothbrush or air blast.

  • Can you turn off the "Charging not supported with this device" messages?

I recently bought a standard dock extender cable in order to connect my iPad to my Apple HiFi and have had music from Pandora constantly interrupted by sporadic "Charging not supported with this device" messages. The messages will continue to come up repeatedly despite pressing the "Dismiss" bar repeatedly.
Is there a way to turn those kinds of warnings off in either iPad Settings or in iTunes when docking the iPad?

Try connecting the iPad to the iPod Hi-Fi with a male to male mini-stereo cable. I use one of these cables to connect my Airport Express to my iPod Hi-Fi, so that I can use it with AirTunes.
You can even combine the cable with the Apple iPad Dock, which would let you charge the iPad while using it with the iPod Hi-Fi.

Clean the contacts on the dock end of the cable and inside the dock on the phone

  • My iPad 5 will not charge, I get the message " CHARGING IS NOT SUPPORTED WITH THIS DEVICE

I get the message " CHARGING IS NOT SUPPORTED WITH THIS DEVICE. I've checked different cables and chargers ( from our other iPad 5, and cleaned the port, but it won't charge plugged into the computer or ghargers.

If charging will not work with valid cables and chargers and the Lightning port is clear, there is likely a hardware issue.  Take the iPad to an Apple store genius bar and have it tested by the techs.

  • "Charging not supported with this accessory" when it's plugged into my Mac?

I'm starting to get extremely upset with my iPod touch 2nd Generation 64GB. I've had it just over a month now and every time I plug it into my Macbook it will charge for a few minutes, and then if I move the iPod for any reason it says "Charging is not supported with this accessory" and stops charging. My Macbook is always plugged into its charger so there shouldn't be an issue with that. I've tried the charging cord that came with the iPod, and several other charging cords from previous iPods, but still I get the same result. Could it be that the USB ports on my Macbook are going bad? I've had it since 2006 so I don't know what to do.

Checked, nothing there, didn't resolve the issue. Bought a new USB connector and haven't had the problem since. Apparently the ones I had, even the one that came with the iPod all went bad somehow. Thanks though!

  • When I plug my iPhone in to my computer with the usb cable that came with the phone the screen says, "Charging is not supported with this device".  How can I fix this?

When I use the same cable with the wall adapter it charges just fine.

LOL     My situation is the opposite.  plug my iPhone 3GS with USB cable and attach to mini adaptor (or whatever the small one is called) and it does not charge. Connect the same iPhone 3GS to my MacBook, using same cable, an charging takes place for iPhone.  Then,  connected the iPhone to the AC power with the large Apple AC  adaptor and it always charges. Seems to be the small adaptor and sometimes a third party automobile adapter.
At first I thought this might be because I was using third party USB cable, but now wonder about that since there are so many problems that others are having.
Having scoured the discussions, it appears no definitive answer has been given.  Am I wrong. Maybe I never found the answer to what is happening here.
if you can help, please reply to help all of us with the issue still - June 2011.
    Thanks!

  • Charging not supported with this device?

iPad 1, charges normally using OEM Wall Charger.  Also I use a Zagg (3rd party) portable rechargable battery charger (designed for Apple products).  Recently, and only sporadically, the iPad will not charge using the Zagg, only using the wall charger.  I've tried different cords, that's not the problem.  I've reset my settings as suggested in another thread, that doesn't work either.  I even returned the Zagg and got a new one.  It charges my iPhone just fine.  I charged the iPad using the wall charger, let battery run down, and now the Zagg works on the iPad...Any ideas?

Maybe i don't fully understand the issue, but aren't you saying it essentially works now? Personally, I avoid using third party equipement to charge any iOS device (I have have an ancient iPod that uses a belkin charger, but doesn't get much use). Could be a design issue with the Zagg improperly reading the iPad. Hard to say. but if it currently works, try using it through a few cycles and see if you have an issue. If not, you basically solved the problem, it would seem.

  • I keep getting the error message that "charging is not supported with this accessory" when I plug my ipod touch in to my macbook.

Neither the macbook nor ipod touch are new, and I'm using the cable provided with the ipod touch as normal and so was just hoping someone could explain what might be causing this? thanks!

    Hi,
Thanks for your suggestions, tried all those but no luck until I tried another cable. Also found another thread on here with a similar complaint that suggested cleaning the cable/ipod connection which I've now done which seems to have done the trick-thanks again!

  • 'Charging is not supported with this accessory' HELP!

    So here it goes...
i got an iphone 3gs for christmas and it went fantastic, i jailbroke it and got everything i needed. in february, i came home from college and saw a message saying charging is not supported with this accessory when i tried to charge it with the charger i have been using for a month! so i still had my warranty on it and i sent it off. i recently got a new one (refurbished) on friday so i have had it exactly a week now. all was well once again and just a second ago i got the message again! but this time it wasnt permentant, i unplugged it and plugged it back it and it was fine for around 5 mins and did it again!
i am using the mains to charge it and it is a USB plugged into a plug which goes in the mains, i am using 5.0.1
what could be the problem? at first i thought it was a dead battery but its happened again so im thinking the voltage in my room? Please help me!!!

Discussing hacked and jailbroken devices is a violation of the Terms of Service here.  Jailbreaking voids your warranty and forfeits your right to support from Apple or on these forums.
That said, try cleaning the dock connector with a dry toothbrush.

  • "Charging is not supported with this accessory" with iOS 4.2

It looks like iOS 4.2 is not supporting the older USB cables that have the longer plugs with the two fastener buttons on the sides.
Since yesterday (after my update to iOS 4.2) I am getting that message on the iPhone screen:
"Charging is not supported with this accessory"
Now I have to spend another $29 for a cable that used to work until yesterday morning.
I am just not getting why Apple would render cables useless with a software update.
Has anyone experienced the same issue?

My two cents... This may eliminate some options...
I installed iOS 4.2 on my iTouch last night. I went to set up my link with Ubuntu on my main machine and got the message "Charging is not supported with this accessory" when I plugged into my USB port. After reading this post I tried another USB cable, and a reboot, but neither worked.
I tried plugging my iTouch into a USB charging device USING THE SAME TWO CABLES I USED WITH MY PC, and the iTouch behaved normally.
I tried plugging it into a Windows XP laptop and it behaved normally. I tried plugging it into another Ubuntu computer, and it behaved normally, although this computer is running a slightly different version of Ubuntu.
My iTouch is configured in a standard fashion.
I am concluding that the problem is not the cables, and it is not the connector at the base of my iTouch.
My suspicion is that one of my computers is running at a slightly different USB voltage than the others, and that this difference is somehow triggering a reaction from my new iOS 4.2 installation.

  • Charging is not supported with this accessory with original charger.

Hello everyone. A few weeks ago I started getting the charging is not supported with this accessory despite using the same cords and plugs I have always been using. At first this happened occasionally but it still charged. Now it only shows up as this, and I've even tried switching to other chargers and it still doesn't work. It now charges at a VERY VERY slow rate, like 2-5% per hour (But only shows charging is not supported, I don't get the charging signal), and I'm not sure what the issue is.
I'm still under the one year limited warranty, is this something the warranty would cover at an Apple store?
I tried reseting it and updating to the new software, but nothing has worked. I've also never used a non-Apple charger to try to charge it or anything.
    Thanks for the help.

it may not be this but i had a problem like that where lint had gotten into the port and wasnt allowing the charger to connect like it needed to it would recognize something being in there but wouldnt charge a thin pair of tweezers would be a great investment just take a look i would also check the headphone port
