Charging issue - other ideas before I send it back?

I was given an 80GB iPod Video for my birthday last October. Since then, I've used my iPod on numerous occasions, although not on a daily basis. My iPod still seems pretty new to me, and I hate the thought that the battery is shot but I have no reason to believe otherwise.
*Here's the scoop:*
Recently, I left my iPod on its dock overnight as I listened to music and charged it. The next morning I removed it from the dock and it was dead within seconds. I have tried charging it numerous times since then and it won't hold a charge to save my life.
Each time I pull it off the wall charger it shows a full-battery logo but upon attempting to play one song, it flashes a message about not having enough battery and then dies. When I pull it off the USB it simply dies immediately.
I have tried different USB cables and I have tried different wall chargers, but to no avail. I've read through posts, surfed apple.com's FAQ and forums, and troubleshooted (using the 5 R's recommendation).
I'm currently staring at my struggling iPod as it tries its hardest to gain a charge while connected to the computer...and I'm also gawking at the AppleCare Repair Service package they've sent me to return it to them in.
I'm fully prepared to send it back to the company but my concern is maybe I've overlooked another option? Apple sent me a confirmation email after I submitted a service request form and in it they explained that a fee may be assessed if they find my iPod is not in need of replacing, but only needs servicing. I'd like to avoid this if there is something I can do for it myself (even though I highly doubt it).
I just once again toggled the Hold switch and followed through by holding the Menu and select button at the same time. It lit up with the Apple logo and then faded out. I've watched it light up with the Apple logo a few times since then and each time it fades away and returns to the "Please wait. Very low battery." logo with the animated spinning symbol below it. Meanwhile, I can only do this while it is connected to the computer or I can't do it at all as, well...it dies.
I am succumbing to the fact that I need to send it in, but this is where I turn to you for any last minute ideas before I ship this baby back.
Thoughts and suggestions welcome. Thanks for your input and your time.

So I figured...
I just wanted to see if there was anything else I could possibly try before I sent it off as Apple seems pretty stringent on their policies.
I have scheduled a pick-up with DHL this afternoon, so it's pretty much a done deal and it's going back.
Thanks.

My brand new 2.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 JUST straight out of the box worked for 20 minutes, long enough to sort Apple ID etc,  then froze to a blank screen with Vertical lines.  Why! any ideas before I send back to store. Thanks
ps: mavericks not installed on it yet, didn't even have chance to do anything with it!

    None. Take it back ASAP.

  • N93 - not impressed but before I send it back ...

I have problems with my new N93:
The battery lasts only 2 days. In a week I have recharged it 4 times. The first charge was until it was fully charged.
While I connected it to my wifi with fixed IP, WEP128 etc, it won't connect when I have the SSID suppressed as anyone sensible does. Even Win98 would do that, let alone XP or proper *nix operating systems.
An incoming call with CLI that had a UK number is not recognised if the caller's number on my phone starts +44.
There are probably other issues that I have forgotten at the moment.
Does anyone recognise these problems? The battery issue is the most serious. I checked that it has the latest firmware and I like the N93's functionality in general.
I have to decide in the next day or so to return it to Vodafone and get a Samsung or something that works. I got stuck with SE v600i rubbish for 18 months before and don't intend to repeat this exercise.

Well it's a bit late now to send it back but the N93 is rubbish so I will have to put up with it. I got this because I had big problems with an SE i600 with its dodgy keyboard that kept making calls from my pocket but I deeply regret throwing the money away on this phone.1) The battery life is appalling - about 2 days and that's with only the occasional call 1 minute, no wifi or 3G or anything. I live in a reasonable signal strength area.
    2) The navigation is appalling - it is a complete disgrace. I don't want to lug the manual around as well as the phone so I always end up digging into the menu system. Can't I put my most used commands on the desktop? Just to set an alarm takes about 10 keystrokes. Never mind that I can't find the page to send a Read Voice Mail to vodafone. Yeah - some smart **bleep** will tell me what it is but I can't be bothered as I have far too many programming languages in my head anyway.
    3) The movies are **bleep** - try playing them through your TV! That's with no zoom or anything just videoing my son skiing. I thought with a 1GB chip in I would be able to keep some holiday movies but they are unviewable. Next time I will use my DVD camcorder to get some decent pix.
    4) Wifi connection is dodgy - I can connect it to my domestic wireless which uses WEP, fixed IP and suppresses the SSID but I can only configure it to start with if I unsuppress the SSID. Then it will work just about.
    5) The update system is bizarre. You have to switch the phone off and take the battery out to get the Product ID then connect it and find out whether there is anything to update. Can't the PC Suite tell me whether my software needs updating? Windows can do that, so can Kubuntu...
I used to be a fan of Finnish technology being an avid Linux user and having a number of Finnish friends. But this product is fast sending me Korea-wards back to Samsung that was the best phone I ever had. Even XP - and possibly Shista - is better than this offering. Can anything be done about this? Or does anyone want a used N93?

  • How many days does apple wait until sending my online purchased items before they send them back?

Well it is just as the title of the post says. I purchased a macbook air through the online store because I needed the spanish keyboard on it. I selected the pickup option and sent it to one of the apple stores. The macbook was ready before schedule and I won't be able to retrieve (I have no family in the city I sent my item to) it for 8 days. So I whas wondering if the apple store would store it for that long or if they would send it back.

Ou will have to call the tore and ask them how long they will hold it or you.  Since you have paid for it, they will probably be cooperative about scheduling pickup.

  • My iphone was dropped into water and now is frozen on the initialization screen. I would like to retrieve the photos from it before I send it back to the insurance company. Any advice?

I have already tried to upload the photos through a computer that does not have iTunes installed because I am afraid that it will erase everything that is already on the phone. However, it states that the DCIM folder is empty yet the device only has 12 GB of memory free on a 40 GB so obviously there is data on the phone. My Verizon rep recommends just plugging it into iTunes. I have one computer that has not updated to iOS5. Any thought? Thanks in advance.

You could use a third party app on your computer, that uses the iPhone as just an external disk.
There are several like iExplorer, Diskaid, Phonedisk, etc.

  • HT1766 how to back up phone that is not charging and won't turn on before i send it in to apple care

how to back up a phone that wont charge or turn on before i send it to apple care

You cannot.  You would have had to back it up when it was still capable of at least powering on.  Now, there is no way to back up a completely unresponsive iPhone.  You need to make backups when a device is working properly, before it has problems.

  • Preparing to send iMac back for replacement.

I am planning on sending my iMac back for my replacement tomorrow and I have everything I need backed up safely. I want to erase the hard drive before I send it back and have read the instructions on how to do so. I have the OS X install cd's and I plan on installing the operating system after I erase it. Question is - do these discs include iLife? iLife obviously came pre-installed on my machine - so I would imagine that one of these discs will include it - but I could be wrong.
    Anyone have an answer?

See if it's either on your install disc, or the additional software one. You can check before you erase the disk by using [Pacifist|http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12743] to check the install package. I believe it did come with your Mac, I know it's on mine, but I'm not sure if it was also in the package or was just preinstalled with no way to reinstall it.

What about the incredable lag time from clicking on a program to the time it opens (or the time till the loading screen starts)? I wish I could record it and play it so I could see if thats normal from other members... the icon just sitting there for over 35 second (I just counted 36 till the loading screen popped up) at first I thought it was me not clicking hard enought cuz the mouse button I have is real stiff (any ideas on that?) but no it takes that long just to get to the app loading screen... this happens every time same amount of time with the 3 programs I use the most, prolly more but I know for a fact world of warcraft, uTorrent, and Google Chrome. I would just chalk it up to slow hardware but they load real quick in windows 7 and once this bad spot is loaded the program runs so fast and nice afterword. Maybe some tweeks? I wonder if this would happen in Snow?
The coment "few outdated programs" Ive seen alot its not just a few its a lot and since games are not Apple's strong point I would think they would want to keep as many as they could...
An example of the rants you will see from a lot here. Don't be put off as these problems are generally user specific, and these same old comments come out after the release of every OSX I can remember. When Lion is upgraded  to the next OSX you can gaurentee these forums will be full of people screaming about how great Lion was. Happened with Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard.
So come to think of it you may be better off Googling sites that give you unbiased views on Lion, rather than expect any positive comments here. For every one complaint there are probably 100,000 people with no issues.

I am trying to reinstall Dreamweaver CS3 from the CD after having computer issues.  Now getting error "You can only install one Adobe product at a time.  Please complete the other installation before attempting to install ......."  There is no other Adobe product installing.  I have used the Adobe Cleaner Tool many times and uninstalled other Adobe Products but neither has worked.  I have uninstalled/reinstalled this CD version of Dreamweaver several times when changing computers and after having computer issues. A google search of the problem suggested it may be an error related to the number of times I can reinstall this product due to licensing issues.  Please help.

Absolutely not. You are misinterpreting things. The activation check never happens when just running the installer, only much later. It means what it says - there is another "install" pending/ active on your system, meaning somewhere there is an (invisible) process still blocking things. Either way, since you haven't provided any real technical info, we can't advise specifically. if you are on Windows, you may want to check your task manager and terminate any setup.exe and msiexec.exe processes plus potentially may need to manually fix/ delete some registry keys. For anything beyond that you will have to be much more specific.

  • HT201317 Has anybody an idea, why my jpeg-picture uploaded to Photo Stream does not appear on my S4 like all the other pictures before? Ok, it's 4 years old, but JPEG and taken with a digital camera...! I'm despaired after trying since days...! Thank you!

Has anybody any idea, why my jpeg-picture upoaded to Photo Stream does not appear on my iPhone S4 like all the other pictures before?
Ok, it's a 4 year old picture, but taken with a digital camera as jpeg...! This cannot be the problem really, but I'm despaired after trying since days...! Thank you all for any hint you've got for me!

If you asking me, I would suggest to additonally use a second storage service which also allows you to store your pictures over the 30 days period. I personally use Dropbox with automatic upload for that (https://db.tt/cMEgDUFZ), but there are also other storage services like Flickr for example.

  • Any other ideas on the reception issue?

I am wanting to ask if anyone else has any other ideas on fixing the reception issue?
I just got off the phone with an Apple "Supervisor". He agreed with me that the software update will only correctly display AT&T's signal that I am getting. He agreed that it will NOT remedy the dropped calls that alot of us are now getting with the use of the new iPhone 4. He also agreed that I either need to hold the phone differently or pay extra money either to Apple or to another manufacturer for a case that I have never used on previous iPhones.
So, I am not going to return my beautiful new iPhone 4, but I do want to find out if anyone else has found anything else to remedy this problem without doing anything listed above. I am not trying to beat a dead horse, but I am tired of dealing with the big corporation that Apple has become. The same corporation that now, only cares about the number of iPhones and "Bumpers" sold as opposed to the customers satisfaction that purchased their iPhones.

I don't have any problems either, with or without the bumpers on... it would be nice if ATT had mentioned where in particular their network was having the issues... also I've seen a lot of reports from the UK re the reception problems and one carrier's sim card (which is slightly too big and is shorting the antenna) seems to be the culprit in some cases...
    AT&T's statement is below
"AT&T has come through with a statement on reports the company has been capping upload speeds for iPhone users.
In a statement we first spotted through D: All Things Digital, AT&T is describing the problem as one pertaining to a software issue.
AT&T informs that a software defect some Alcatel-Lucent equipment has been crippling 3G HSUPA performance, and says that vendor is working on a repair, though a schedule isn’t forthcoming just right now.
AT&T and Alcatel-Lucent jointly identified a software defect — triggered under certain conditions – that impacted uplink performance for Laptop Connect and smartphone customers using 3G HSUPA-capable
wireless devices in markets with Alcatel-Lucent equipment. This impacts less than two percent of our wireless customer base. While Alcatel-Lucent develops the appropriate software fix, we are providing normal 3G uplink speeds and consistent performance for affected customers with HSUPA-capable devices."

  • The address toolbar is missing. I have followed the online guides to resolve this issue- not working. Any other ideas?

The address toolbar is missing. I have followed the online guides to resolve this issue including disabling add-ins and extensions. The problem does not occur in safe mode. But does occur even when acceleration, all extensions & add-ins and themes are disabled. I have also reloaded firefox 4. Any other ideas?

If the problem doesn't occur in Safe Mode, restart again in that configuration and then in the menu which appears, checkmark the option: "Disable All Add-ons". Then click the button called "Make changes and restart".
Next, re-enable your add-ons one-by-one until the problem recurs. Then you'll know which one is the culprit.

  • I've read others' posts on this issue and still need an answer that works. Safari keeps dropping wireless; no issues on a Dell laptop with XP in same room. Cleared cache, etc. - any other ideas?

I've read others' posts on this issue and still don't have an answer that works!  Safari keeps dropping wireless connection every 5 - 10 minutes (it's gotten progressively worse over the last month). My husband, sitting 10 ft across from me, has no issues on a Dell laptop with XP so doesn't appear to be the router or ISP. Safari v5.0.6 Mac OS 10.5.8. Cleared cache, tried kill commands in Terminal, restarts, etc. Only restarting seems to keep it at bay for a period, but then it will start again. Any other ideas?

You posted a question about a problem connecting a Mac to a wireless router. You have an old Dell laptop that works well with that router.
I pointed you to a brief discussion with another poster who had a problem connecting a Mac to a wireless router. He had an old Dell laptop that worked well with that router. I suggested he upgrade the router firmware. He upgraded it, and the problem was solved. Another poster in that thread did the same thing, and his problem was also solved. Within the last day or two, I made the same suggestion to a third poster in another thread, and his problem was solved too.
Conclusion: Upgrading the router firmware helps sometimes.
If I understand your response, you think that checking for a firmware update isn't even worth a try. Am I missing something?
