Charging new battery

Hi there,
I have a simple question, how long do you have to charge e new battery?
It's true the story of 3,4 times charge/recharge for 14-16 hours?

As grschinon says, the modern Lithium cells do not need the inital 14-16 charge.
They do however, only reach peak performance after a few full discharge, charge cycles. After those first few charge cycles you should get around 300-400 cycles of normal use, I did read that storage of Lithium Cells should be done in a part charged condition, not fully charged or fully discharged.
I know a lot of people that think that the battery runs for the life of the phone. This is incorrect. The battery only lasts a finite time. I like to replace my battery after a year, even if it is not expired, seeing as the prices for new genuine ones are pretty reasonable now. A battery that is 12 months old, normally will be on its last legs, on a 18 month contract you should factor in a new one at some stage, and of course recycle the old one

You can leave it plugged in all the time if you wish.
Once your Macbook is fully charged, it stops charging.
You can see this if you click on your apple logo, about this mac, more info, system report, power.
In any event, it is also a good idea to use your Macbook under it's own power to keep the battery in optimal condition.
As much as possible, try not to fully discharge your battery. It could do more harm than good to your Macbook.

IPod Nano 3G - dead as soon as taken off charger - new battery fitted

A couple of years ago my girlfriend won a 4gb iPod Nano 3G in a raffle. As we both had other iPods, it has been sitting in a drawer ever since. The other day I found it, and thought it would be useful for using in my car.
It was still sealed in the box - so I opened it, connected to iTunes, registered it, and synced it.
As soon as I unplugged it, the screen died. I couldn't get it to switch back on without plugging it in. When plugged in (computer or mains) it works fine. As soon as its unplugged it immediately switches off.
As it had been sitting unused for a couple of years, I presumed the battery was dead. I ordered a replacement from eBay - which arrived today. I soldered in the new battery, and left the iPod to charge for a while. The same again - when I disconnect it from the computer, it dies before I've even got the dock plug right out!!
Any ideas? I've tried restoring it with the latest firmware, and I've also tried manually resetting it using the Menu / Center buttons.

I have the same exact problem and situation, took it out of the shelf after two years unused! Any luck?

Battery is not charging - New Battery

I have just bought a replacement battery as my old one reached the end of its life. After inserting the new battery and plugging in the charger, the message "Battery is not charging" appears when i click on the battery symbol. How do I set up my new battery? Or is my charger the problem?

I'm not too sure. I knew the laptop battery needed replacing so I waited for it to die completely. But the charger light wasn't lighting up like it usually did just before the battery died. I assumed it was because of the battery running out of juice. Should I try another charger and see what happens?

Battery not charging- new battery

Recently my laptop advised me to buy a replacement battery for it as it was unable to run without the charger plugged in.
I have bought the replacement battery, this is the advised one but is a 12 cell instead of the previous 6 cell.
Now I have swapped the battery over it won't charge. The laptop doesn't seem to acknowledge the charger is plugged in. The charger wire was working perfectly before the new battery so not sure what the problem is. Please help.

With the battery removed and the power adapter plugged in, does the power led light up and can you boot into Windows?

TS3499 macbook recognises but will not charge new battery

I was advised to buy a new charger last week and have just been advised by an apple employee to buy a new battery for my MacBook 2009 and i am having the same issue as my old battery.
The Mac reconognises the battery but will not charge or run off the battery.
Just spent £150 in total on new charger and battery but still having the same problem as before.
I have downloaded the firmware update but my Mac is already running the latest software.

Have you reset the SMC and pram?

Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Newer Mac portables with a battery you don't remove
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

I grasp you have replaced the original battery with a 12 cell and are still receiving startup error 106.

Here is a link to Purchasing a Replacement Battery which has links for testing and calibrating the battery. I would suggest you try that step as it should resolve the issue for you.

Request for new battery specs

Can someone tell me what are the specs for a fully charged new battery for a 2008 MB (aluminum)?
i.e. full charge capacity, voltage, amperage, etc.
My current battery shows 3276 charge capacity, 12419 volts, 0 amperage, 551 cycles.
It used to say "replace soon", now it says condition "normal".
Did the battery calibration thingy, and MB shuts down sooner around 17% these daze.
Time to replace?

Full capacity originally was around 4200. At 550+ cycles, your battery has had a long and productive life. Consider a new one.

New Battery Stand By Duration

Hello Apple Users,
I've had terrible luck with the original MBP's battery lives. I'm currently on my 3rd battery now and I was just testing how long the battery lasts on standby - no processes running whatsoever.
The fully charged new battery on stand by lasted about 3.25 hours.
Is that similar to what everyone is experiencing? Is this normal? I haven't had a "normal" battery due to all my unluckiness with these batteries (I also need to cycle more... can anyone give me some info on that too?)

To answer your questions: Yes, it's a brand new battery - just got it yesterday and was so surprised by how quickly it was drained that I thought I'd ask some questions before I take it to the Genius Bar. As far as I can tell the battery does fully charge to 100% with the green light on the plug. But calibrated? I am not sure how to calibrate it... would that be the cause of the issues?

The new battery will become less effective if you store it in a hot or humid environment. It should be stored at room temperature (22 C).
Long term storage (6 months):
Apple recommends that you store the battery with a 50% charge. If you store a battery when it’s fully discharged, it could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding any charge. Conversely, if you store it fully charged for an extended period of time, the battery may experience some loss of battery capacity, meaning it will have a shorter life.

I can only leave my MacBook Pro unplugged for an hour maximum and it never seems to fully charge. It says on the Mac to service battery - which I guess means buy a new battery.
I have had my MacBook for over 5 years now and it does get used probably every day, if not every other. If I brought a new battery would it all work normally again or is it getting old and do I need a new one?
Also, my charger seems to be playing up a bit now as well. It's seems to be temperamental when I plug it in and takes to while to light up and charge. I've attached an image of the battery bit on my laptop as the lead seems to be fine - is this normal?

Is there any application(s) that your current Mac cannot run that only a new can? Calculate the cost per year of your current MBP and compare that to the cost of a new battery. Spread the battery cost over a year or two of additional operation, how do the dollar amounts compare? If the MBP is functioning properly, I generally find it is more cost effective to keep it.
If the retina display and the SSD storage are very desirable from your perspective, then that becomes a different matter. You are the one to make the final decision.

HT3964 Installed a new battery for a Macbook 2,1 New battery not charging. Battery symbol shows (Not charging) and replace battery. Green LED on magsafe connection. Disconnection results in an instant shutdown.

I have just installed a new Battery after the old one showed (Not Charging) and when you clicked on this icon the dropdown"condition replace now". Problem now is the computer still shows the same message in the top bar (Not Charging) and the dropdown also shows "condition relace now". the magsafe show the greem LED i.e not charging, but providing power. If you disconnect the magsafe the computer powers off instantly confirming we have power. I have carried out resetting the SMC controller and still no change. Tested the standby voltage on the magsafe pins etc, all in spec. What should I do now, as I don't want to keep spending more and more. Bellow is the info from the system profiler.

Satellite M45-S165 New Battery won't charge past 25%

Hello,
This is a Satellite M45-S165 running Windows XP SP2.
I just put in a new battery from Technuity sold at Circuit City. Followed the instructions and let it charge for 10 hours before using it. The laptop was turned off while charging.
Turned on the laptop and Toshiba Power Saver said that the battery was only charged to 25%. It just won't let it charge any more than that.
I shut down TPS from the task manager and opened the Windows power meter on the control panel. After running on just the battery for a while I tried to recharge it. But the windows power meter is showing that the battery is charging, but that is stuck at 3%.
The battery is new, so any idea about what is keeping it from charging completely?

At first I must say that you have done everything correctly and this issue is probably not because of the battery (I hope you bought the right one). The question is is there some problem with power supply electronic.
You must understand that it is not easy to offer simply explanation to such issues and to find out what is wrong there it is necessary to run diagnostics program and check power supply electronic functionality.
This can be done by authorized service provider only. So you must make decision what to do. Make a call and ask them what can be the reason for this. Inform you what can be done with it. What else you can do?

New battery fitted recently to replace a faulty one (allegedly). Battery has since been on 1% but lasted all day, I charged it every night to ensure it would not go off. Ran ios 6.0.2 update and now phone will not restart or charge and i cant restore HELP

Says it all in the question really, but just to clarify: Once upon a time I took out a contract and got my very own iphone4s more or less straightaway I could tell the battery charge was faulty, I was told by a member of the genius bar that this was normal, it wasnt normal I could literally watch it count down and it just got worse. It got to the point where I couldnt use the phone anymore so after taking it to various places I had the battery replaced (all in all this cost around £100) and it worked 'normally' for about half a day until the phone suddenly reached 1% and has stayed at this % ever since- not ideal but it would stay on all day and ive managed to use the phone fine. I would keep it charged overnight as i usually would but even after 8 hours of charging it still said 1%, I downloaded battery apps they all told me the battery was empty even when it was still on 1%. Lastnight I decided to update to i.0.s 6.0.2 I kept it on charge to do it but when it went to restart it would not turn back on. Im now stuck with a phone that actually has a new battery but the phone somehow doesn't recognise that it has a battery, I can't restore on itunes as it will not charge at all not even to get the apple symbol. Ive spent alot of money trying to resolve this already and have been told that the battery is not covered with the warranty so I wondered if anyone had any ideas?

Unless Apple replaced your battery, and it appears they didn't, you're pretty much on your own now. Have you tried going back to whoever replaced your battery? That's gonna be your only choice now, because if a third-party replaced your battery, Apple won't touch your phone now.
