Charging not supported by this accessory???

Whenever I connect my ipod touch 4g to my charger (the charger and cable is apple brand) it immediately tells me: "charging is not supported by this accesory". I tried to plug it in multiple times, and with different chargers but to no avail. I tried closing all the apps, and then turning it off, then plugging it in. That didn't work either. I don't understand why this is happening, my ipod is running the latest version of ios 5.1 and all of my apps are always updated. It is in perfect condition, and it won't charge at all if I leave it plugged in for 8 hours. My warranty has expired, and I need it to travel with in a week. What should I do to fix this problem!!!!

Does it work/charge when connected to the computer?
- Try resetting the iPod. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bend/brokem/corroeded contacts, foreigh material and broken/cracked plastic pieces

Using wall charger and am now getting error message "charging not supported by this accessory."  Have been using since December and this is first time I have encountered this.

Did you look to see if there is debris or dust causing the problem? Get a flashlight and take a look to make sure.
Is there something in the USB end of the cord perhaps?
You didn't answer this question ....Are you using the charger and cord that came with your iPad?
You could try changing cords if you have another one available to see if it is the cord. Have you tried connecting to your computer to see if you get the same message?
You could try a hard reset by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears, let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. Then try the charger again.

  • HT4060 ' charging not supported with this accessory' and Not Charging at all

    Help and advice please.
I am having problems getting the new IPad to charge at all and sometime it displays this message.
' charging not supported with this accessory'. This message is appearing occasionally on my 5 week old new iPad (3) within a few minutes of plugging it in.  :(    It is also not charging after this message appears. I am using the supplied wall socket and cable. I am also having problems getting the iPad to charge at all even if the message does not show. This is frustrating me no end. I expected a reliable device given the amount I paid.
I am so disappointed, frustrated and feeling some what angry.
I rang Apple support today (twice) and it made a liar of me working just fine for few minutes the first time then again failed, then for  hour or so after the second call seemed to work just fine. Now it is not charging, and won't charge despite repeatedly unplugging and repluging, Switching off the iPad and turning it back on etc etc.
I am not happy at all!

Not normal. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • My iPad has an error that says "charging not supported by this accessory"

I have an iPad 4 and one day I went to plug it in and the charger wouldnt connect. I went and bought both new peices of the charger, still doesn't charge. When i just leave it plugged in it pops up an error of " charging not supported by this accessory." Does any one have a remedy for this problem?

Yes, i have also tried connecting it to my computer, it also pops up the same error. When its plugged into the wall the whole screen turns black and a yellow triangle with the exclamation mark pops up. When i plug it into the computer with the apple cord a little blue box ( in the middle like the apple id password box) pops up.

If you did not do a reset of your iPod please try that (you will not lose any data)
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If this does not work inspect the opening in your iPod where the cable connects. Look for any debris and clean it (a magnifying glass may be required).

  • "charging not supported by this accessory".  If I leave it plugged in, it charges, but I noticed that the charge doesn't seem to hold as long.  What does this mean?

Why every time I plug my phone in using a USB cord or charger does it say "charging not supported with this accessory"?  The phone will charge if I leave it plugged in long enough, but I noticed that it doesn't hold the charge like it used to.  Is this the battery, or something else?

    Hi CJ-
There are some chargers designed for thr original iPhone that are not compatible with the 3G and later models. Are you using the USB cable that came with the 3G?  That cable, when plugged into a computer USB port, or, when plugged into the power cube / wall outlet, should charge the 3G just fine.
Due to the nature of Lithium Ion batteries, there are safeguards in place to prevent the wrong type of charger from supllying charge voltage to the batteries, and if the proper pins and resistance is not detected by the phone,  the circuitry will block charging and give that message.
Therefore:  If you are using a 3G compatible (oem, or otherwise valid charger), and you're seeing that "not supported" message, it could be the cable you're using, or it's the phone/circuitry detection in the phone that detects the cable / charger type.
And, if you are getting some charge, but it's not holding very long, it could be that it's a 3G, and the lifespan of the battery is near end of life.   The fact that you're getting a charging not supported message is probably of more importance as to why the battery is not fully being charged.

  • Charging not supported with this accessory shows up on my iPad. The cable seems to be broken at the connector. Could it be that I need a new USB cable?

Yes, but should be covered under the warranty of your device (or any device under warranty using that cable) just bring it into the store.

  • "Charging not supported with this accessory" when it's plugged into my Mac?

I'm starting to get extremely upset with my iPod touch 2nd Generation 64GB. I've had it just over a month now and every time I plug it into my Macbook it will charge for a few minutes, and then if I move the iPod for any reason it says "Charging is not supported with this accessory" and stops charging. My Macbook is always plugged into its charger so there shouldn't be an issue with that. I've tried the charging cord that came with the iPod, and several other charging cords from previous iPods, but still I get the same result. Could it be that the USB ports on my Macbook are going bad? I've had it since 2006 so I don't know what to do.

Checked, nothing there, didn't resolve the issue. Bought a new USB connector and haven't had the problem since. Apparently the ones I had, even the one that came with the iPod all went bad somehow. Thanks though!

  • Charging not supported with this accessory. Multiple cables...please help

A couple weeks ago I started occasionally getting a "Charging is not supported with this accessory" error when my phone was plugged in to my wall, and car charger. Then, it would randomly start popping up when it wasn't even plugged in to anything... it got worse and now it won't even charge. It just pops on and off like I'm plugging and unplugging the cable. So I decided to restore the iphone and update again, to wipe everything off. During the restore it got to clear the software, but every time before it can finish installing everything back the iphone comes "unplugged" and now I can't even use the phone because it's stuck in recovery mode and just says to plug it into itunes. I've tried 3 different cables, and tried doing this about 6 times now. Please help, I'm at a loss... I even cleaned the port where it connects and everything. It's an iphone 4 with ATT, and I've had it for about a year...

    I tried that earlier today
I just cleaned it again for about an hour with the toothbrush. It got almost all the way done restoring and then said an unknown error occured and the iphone shut back off. Sigh

Use the original cable and charger that came with your iPhone, and plug it into a wall socket for several hours.

  • Mophie charging not supported with this accessory

Error on my Mophie Helium states: Charging I not supported with this accessory.
I have had it replaced 3 times. Same issue. Just got. New one yesterday. Same hen I woke up. Using the cable they sent. Using the outlet that came with my iPhone 5. No change. I tried with a blackberry wall outlet and its he same.
I have one last test. The ac adapter that came with my new iPad. If that works great. But. It should be supplied by Mophie. Either way I will have to call them.
So far my iPad charger is working great. What the heck?
Tips other than what I found out?
    ThanX!
    Kevin
    :apple:

I tested it, the ac adapter that came with my new iPad works great. The error never came up again. It should be supplied by Mophie. Either way I will have to call them. But that is THE answer. I have had 5 replacements. All are the same. My wife has the Air and it never has had this issue.

  • 'Charging not supported with this accessory' on my iPod touch

So I have an iPod touch 4th gen. 8GB. About 4 months ago I dropped it in a small amount of water by accident. I immediately put it into rice and let it dry of for a while before using it. (24 hours.) After that it worked fine, no problems. My dog chewed up the original charging cord so I went and bought a new one. Nothing was wrong until a few days ago. Suddenly when I try to charge my iPod I'm getting the 'charging isn't supported with this accessory' message. At first it only happened if the charger wasn't in perfectly, but now I get it every time I try to charge my iPod. It plugs in and charges for a bit, with the lightning bolt symbol, and then I switches to the full battery symbol and then the message pops up. I have to hold the cord at weird angles to get it to work, and if it's moved at all it tweaks out. I would really appreciate some help. Is it the cord or the iPod? I don't have enough money to throw at a bunch of solutions, so a serious answer would be great. Thanks!

    Not Charge

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • "Charging not supported with this accessory"

I am a long-time Apple user, and feel like I know my way around the basics. I'm afraid I have a confusing/frustrating issue and don't seem to be alone. I have a third generation iPod touch. It's about 18 months old, and does not see heavy use. It used to connect, and charge, without any problem to a Logitech Pure-Fi Elite speaker system, an FM transmitter/charger I use in my car, and a couple of portable chargers with USB ports that I use for traveling in addition to my laptop. I recently acquired a new MacBook Pro running 10.6.8. To stop the constant iTunes upgrade requests, I went ahead and ran the update. Since then, I get the "Charging not supported..." sign, with every device, though I finally got it to connect to my laptop yesterday. It will no longer accept a charge through the Logitech system, and in fact stops sending music signals after half a song when docked, and will not play through the auxiliary output at all, though it will still play through headphones, at least the scrap that I did try in my attempt to troubleshoot it. It will not charge through the car system any longer. Either there is a terrible coincidence of software upgrade and hardware failure, or somehow the software is screwing up the processes that worked fine before. I have to say, Apple upgrades often seem like more trouble than they are worth. There is always something lost when these 'improvements' are made. I am not happy.

I almost have exactly the same problem with the same iTouch generation/age.  But charging with normal Apple charging cables.  Would love an answer to this!  Thanks!

  • HT4060 charging not supported by this accessory after using the same device for a year

I own a first gen iPad. I have always used the same wall charger to charge it for the past 17 months. Suddenly I get this message that charging is not supported by this device. So I plug it into my iMac to charge.....same message. This is a software problem. I find that thousands of owners or iPads and other ios devices are all suddenly having the same issue. Apple has to offer a update to fix this. It is not a cable or connector or hardware issue. The only way I can now charge my iPad is to do a reset. Then it will charge for a few days normally until this message comes back. APPLE PLEASE ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM AND ISSUE AN UPDATE TO FIX IT NOW.
