"charging not supported" cleaning out 30pin connector

My ipod when charging randomly when bumped does a charging not supported and I have to unplug and replug cable into ipod a few times to get it working. the 30pin connector on ipod side is pretty dirty and the dust is sorta caked on. how should i get it out? People that used compressed air said it blew dust behind their screen! help!

Dry, hard toothbrush?
Sometimes just plugging-unplugging the connector a few times helps.

Yes, but should be covered under the warranty of your device (or any device under warranty using that cable) just bring it into the store.

    - Try restoring the iPod, first from backup and then try to factory settings/new iPod to rule out a software problem.
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, foreign material and broken or cracked plastic.
    - Could you have damaged something when you took the iPod apart and replaced the Home button?

  • Charging not supported by this accesory

    Hello.
I have an iPhone 4. My phone starting flashing "charging not supported by this accesory and would not charge for any length of time. I went out and bought a new battery and it is doing same thing. The battery came with a partial charge but is dying and I have no ability to charge it. I have tried diff chargers and even hard reset the phone. It turns itself on and off and charges for a couple minutes, but battery is dying fast. So looks like second battery was waste of money. Hoping I can figure out a fix before the phone dies again and I cant do anyhting with it.

It certainly was a waste of money. This error has nothing to do with the battery. Checking here first would have saved you some money. This error can be caused by any of the following:
    Bad cable
Dirty dock connector (as @brad said)
    Moisture in the connector
    Bent pin in the connector
A charging source that cannot supply at least 0.5 amps at 5 volts (for example, an unpowered USB hub or the front USB ports on a tower or desktop computer).
It is never caused by a bad battery. That is a different symptom - the phone will only work when connected to power.

  • 8800e-1 Arte "Charger not supported"

I own the 8800e-1 Arte. Out of the box I was able to set up PC Suite and the stand for the phone and it worked perfectly. Every time I stuck the phone in the stand it charged up, new pics were downloaded to my PC, and my latest SMSs showed up in PC Suite.
It does not work any more. I have done nothing to the phone, the stand, the cable, PC Suite, or indeed Windows. In the morning yesterday is was working. In the afternoon it was not.
The only thing I can think of is that when the phone rings I pick it up to answer it. Perhaps it was in a particular software state at that point in time and I disrupted it.
Now when I stick my phone in the stand I get an error on the phone that says "Charger not supported".
The USB cable is fine. I have unplugged and plugged in both ends and there is no improvement. I know the cable is working as the base of the phone stand glows white. Regardless, I have taken the stand out of the loop, plugging the phone directly into the cable, and I still get the error "Charger not supported".
I have turned off the phone, taken out the battery, put the battery back, and restarted it. It still does not work.
This strikes me as something wrong with the handset rather than the stand, cable, PC, or PC Suite. Maybe a pin got bent in the plug socket when I removed the phone from the stand, or when I tried to put it back? Maybe (as mentioned above) the phone was in particular state when I removed it from the stand and it got stuck.
    Any advice?

  • HT1386 I have IPod touch running iOS 5.1.1 and Windows 7 with iTunes 11.0.4.4. When I connect the IPod to my PC, iTunes recognizes it but before synching can get very far, it is interrupted by "charging not supported on this acc." Now what to do?

I'm having trouble with the wi-fi synch for iTunes and would be happy if I could just synch by the USB cable. With the new iOS, the connection to iTunes seems to get broken every time the dreaded "charging not supported with this accessory" appears, which is only a few seconds into the synch. Since my PC is obviously not an Apple brand charger, IPod won't stop producing this message. Using the Dismiss button doesn't resolve the issue because synch has already stopped. It looks like the hardwire to PC option is now dead.

  • Charger not supported on IOS8

Woke up this morning to a dead iPhone 5s.  Finally plugged it in and got it to power on only to be greeted with a message saying "Charger not supported".   No worries I have 5 genuine apple chargers and got the same message form each of them.   prior to this there has never been an issue charging my device.   Come on Apple whats up with your product not working with your chargers.   Thank you for an expensive non charging brick.

You're not speaking to anyone from Apple by posting here - we are all just users like you. That being said, you should try cleaning the charging port with a wooden toothpick. You'd be amazed at the lint and gunk that gets built up in there that you cannot see by looking in. Also inspect the area for bent or missing pins.

  • Charger Not Supported, Subsequent Death

I started re-using an old 2323c I had in the house after losing a previous phone. It's only temporary. Anyway, it was working fine, but it ran out of battery and when I plugged in a charger I got the 'Charger Not Supported' message. I tried another charger, same thing. However, I turned it off and plugged it in again, and it started charging while the phone was off. After about 45 minutes of charging, the battery symbol disappeared and the screen went blank. Now, the phone won't turn on full stop. It will randomly charge for a minute or two when I plug it in now.
Is this a hardware issue? The phone has never been used, it was a backup phone sitting in a drawer for a year or so. Is there anything I can do? I know it probably needs repair or something, but I'm planning to get another phone at the end of the month so I don't want to bother with that. Any other solutions besides throwing it a wall? Thanks.

Remove the Battery for a couple of minutes, insert and see if the phone switches ON ..Only other thing you can try is try another Battery to confirm its not related to a dead battery (though it showed charging...) as the phone was  idle for such a long time ...

  • Charging not supported with this [official apple] accessory

I am getting the infamous "charging not supported with this accessory" with my iphone4, ios5 v5.1.1, and the OFFICIAL apple cable that came in the box. I different usb ports, same problem/
I know apple cables can become damaged, but I tried that same cable with the power plug and another laptop, and the phone successfully charged.
To rule out the cable, I bought another apple cable off amazon.com and I get the same error when plugged into this computer, yet it charges fine with the new cable on the other laptop and power plug, just like the first cable. I am beginning to think something is screwy with the USB drivers on the workstation. I hoped upgrading to latest itunes would install newer drivers, but the problem persists.
So how do I fix a problem that doesnt follow the cable, but follows the workstation? Uninstall the iphone from device manager to remove the drivers? Did that, didnt help. Uninstall itunes and reinstall? Why would that be a different result than upgrading itunes in place?
    Annoyed.

I uninstalled the driver via device manager, then uninstalled all appled software. Reinstalled via the itunes x64 installer.
    The problem persists.
However, I was using different usb ports on the 3.5" media reader in my pc. When I use a usb port on the back of the motherboard, charging works successfully with the cable that the iphone complained wasnt an official accessory.
So my problem is now, why did the front usb ports grab a different driver than the back ports, and how do I make sure they all use the same apple driver? It has to be driver related now, there is nothing left.

  • Will it hurt 3GS to use a dock that says 'charging not supported'?

I have a Logic3 universal dock and when I plug in my 3GS it immedaitely says 'charging not supported' yet it does actually charge the phone and syncs to my computer. Will it hurt the iPod to use this dock longterm?

My son is having similar problems with his new dock (Xmas present) and the new touch 32G.
When we took them back to the retailer they suggested resetting the Ipod and trying again, it worked, then went back into the not charging mode after loading up the songs and apps again.
I may be wrong but I think it has something to do with the new Ipod/Iphone models not charging from the Firewire input.
I think that the docking stations are using that voltage input to the Ipod for the charging circuit.
This could render many many devices on the market and in the home today unusable on the new devices apple are bringing out.
