Charging on an Airplane

I am going to be going on a flight for about 16 hours and I intend on bringing my macbook pro for entertainment. I was wondering what airplane charger converters or airplane chargers you guys suggest? Are there any that work for all planes? If not how about some that you know for a fact work for continental or United because those are the 2 I fly most anyways.

I bought the one from apple however when plugged into the Airplane's system, it will provide power to run the system but not charge.  It looks like the old cigarette light plug.

Why would you be charged?   The phone wont be able to send or receive any calls or data.

  • Charging PB on airplane

Is there an adapter available to charge a PB on an airplane?
    15" Aluminum PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Correcting several items in that previous post.
Apple may claim that batteries are not chargeable on an airplane, but I was on American Airlines a couple weeks ago and after a few hours plugged into a power port and actually using my PowerBook, I watched the battery slowly fill up to 100%.
I have the Kensington universal charger. It has adapters for AC, car power port, and EmPower airline sockets. Some airlines use the car power port, others use the EmPower type.
Finally, power port equipped seats may be found throughout the plane, again depending on the airline. What you want to do is check your reservation for the type of equipment (airplane) you'll be flying, then go to your airline's web site and check the specs for that plane type. Several airlines provide diagrams indicating where the power ports are, so you can change your seat reservation to one of those rows. On some aircraft, the power ports are not all in one section, but are in alternating sets of rows. For example, you might find rows 11-16 have them, rows 17-22 don't, and rows 23-26 do. Yes, some power port rows may be available all the way to the back.
Here is a web page describing which rows on Continental contain power ports even in economy class. Note that Continental doesn't want you recharging and specifically asks you to remove your battery! Weird.
You should still charge up your battery beforehand, because we all know airlines can switch planes on you at any time and you might get one without a power port at your seat.

  • My iPad 2 is not charging anymore...

My iPad 2 is not charging anymore when connected to my iMac by original USB cable.  Connection exactly same as before, still syncs and shows up in iTunes etc but just no longer charges.
The cable is obviously fine otherwise I wouldn't be able to see it or sync in iTunes and there's nothing wrong with the USB port as I have tested it with other devices.  It's not going to a hub but directly into my iMac so that means either the iPad is stuffed or someone has changed something in the updated OS X 10.7 or iOS 7...  Have updated to latest versions of all software but still no luck.
iPad in iTunes also shows no battery/charge info in the Summary or in the Devices in the sidebar.
    Um, what the...?

After checking my adaptor, USB cable and blowing debris out of iPad connector port, I still got the same message about the unit not charging. After a couple hours of research (and no useful suggestions from the Apple reps) I came across this solution:   Go to settings on your iPad and turn the Airplane mode ON.  Then turn the iPad OFF by pressing & holding the power button. Leave unit off for about 20 seconds.  Turn the iPad back on and it should now show "charging."  Turn airplane mode OFF and proceed as normal.

  • 4.1 upgrade - signal reception loss, crashing/reboot, sudden battery % drop

    Hello,
Wondering if anybody can help me with these issues. I upgraded my iPhone 3GS to OS 4.1 three days ago. Having some major problems.
The day after I upgraded to 4.1, my iPhone 3GS could not get a signal at all; it just stated "No Service" in areas I knew there was AT&T service. I tried removing and re-installing the SIM card, to no avail. I know this is not an issue with AT&T because when I placed my SIM card into my old RAZR V3, I could get a signal immediately, in the same location. After about 8 hours, around 4PM, my iPhone 3GS finally locked on to the AT&T network.
The next day, I was receiving a phone call and did not have any hands free to answer it. The caller left a voicemail and I attempted to "slide to unlock" the phone to listen to the voicemail. This is when I realized that the iPhone had frozen and crashed. It was not responding to any button or screen inputs, and I didn't know how to reset it. Finally after about 5 minutes, it turned itself off and rebooted itself.
Last night I left the phone at 51% battery charge, turned on Airplane Mode, put the iPhone to sleep, and went to sleep myself. Today, I woke up after about 9 hours of sleep. My iPhone had 5% charge left and was still in Airplane Mode. I was stupefied. How could the iPhone possibly drain from 51% to 5% over 9 hours in Airplane Mode, when it couldn't possibly have been receiving or transmitting any data?
    Please help!
    Myles

I am NOT SELLING the phone on eBay.
Three weeks ago I “upgraded” my old Samsung Sway to a new Samsung Intensity III through VZW and paid $30.00 upgrade fee.
In three weeks I went through three phones – all with problems. Samsung Intensity III is a junk.
Today I resolved my issue with VZW. They refunded $30.00 upgrade fee, and I purchased Samsung Sway on eBay.

  • HT1355 Do i get charge if im conected to wifi but my iPhone its on airplane Mode and Im outside of the us

Im in Jamaica And i have been using the internet of my iPhone  but it is on airplane mode And im conected to wifi, so my question is, am i going tO get charge for the usage?

    Yes you can.
This was introduced a while ago for wi-fi use on an Airplane. All other iPhone radios must be off except for wi-fi when doing so. This can also be used on the OP's situation to prevent placing or receiving any calls, the same for SMS/MMS, and no data or internet access via a carrier's cellular network when roaming internationally.

  • My iPhone5 only charges up to 99% when in airplane mode

I put my phone on aiplane mode at night so as to not get alerts, bells, tones and vibrations going.
However I've noticed when I do that, the phone only charges up to 99%.
If airplane is off, then the phone charges up to 100%.
    Anybody knows anything?

Mine also does this 99% on flight mode, then wake it up and turn off flight mode 100%. Did you finds fix?

  • Charging an iPad on an airplane

Does anyone know if there is an accessory that will allow you to charge your iPad on a long flight?

Just get the airplane adapter that ends in a car adapter socket. Then use a regular car adapter to USB which most people already have. total kits for airplane use MIGHT be limited. Unless FAA rules have changed.
they really dislike charging lion batteries on a plane.

  • HT1355 Is airplane mode a good way to avoid call charges while traveling outside of the US?

Is airplane mode a good way to avoid call charges while traveling outside of the US?

Yes. It will completely disable the cellular radio. You can turn WiFi on while the  phone is in Airplane mode, so you can used data when connecte to a WiFi network.

  • To avoid roaming charges when traveling internationally, do i put my iphone on airplane mode only or do i also need to turn off data and voice roaming

I have an iphone 4 with sprint which can't take a sim card.  To avoid roaming charges while traveling internationally, do i put my phone on airplane mode.
I read you need to turn off cellular and voice data roaming as well but when I turn on airplane mode, it seems like roaming is automatically turned off.
    Is this true?

Turning on Airplane Mode will prevent the phone from getting roaming charges as it cant connect to a cell tower.
P.S you can have WiFi on and still be in Airplan Mode. Just turn Airplane Mode on first, then turn the WiFi on

Because GPS has nothing to do with WiFi, cellular signals, or data of any sort. GPS is implemented by signals sent by satellites that are received by GPS receivers. The receivers process the information from the GPS satellites and calculate your location. GPS never sends data anywhere; GPS functionality is receive only.
If you have WiFi or cellular data turned on this can improve the accuracy of GPS, because the GPS receiver can then use the known location of cell towers and WiFi networks to refine the GPS location. GPS by itself has an accuracy of 10 meters, or about 34 feet. Using the additional information from WiFi and cellular data this can be brought down to 3 meters (10 feet). This mode is called Augmented GPS, or A-GPS.
