Charging peripherals while iBook in Sleep Mode or Shut Down (Hot USB Ports)

I would like to be able to charge my iPhone or iPhone while connected to the iBook. However I would prefer the charging method to work in "Sleep Mode" or when the computer is shut down, still plugged into a wall outlet. Has anyone had any success with finding an after-market provider or a solution to get "Hot USB" ports installed on the iBook G4's? I heard in passing this feature would be available soon on the newer Apple notebooks but have yet to see it.

This isn't something I'd noticed before, but my goodness, you're right!
I'm certain I was able to charge my third gen iPod while it was plugged into my sleeping iBook, as long as the iBook was also connected to an outlet.
My MacBook, while sleeping, will charge a device regardless of if it's connected to the outlet or not.
What OS is your iBook running? Maybe that's a clue to solving this issue.

  • Laptop won't go to sleep mode and shut down properly.

hello,           My name is Atul and i upgraded my laptop hp pavilion 15-p017tu from win 8.1 to win 10 on 29h july. My laptop was working great before the upgrade and before upgrading i updraded ( updated ) all the drivers and windows too.          so, after the upgrade i have been facing the same problem which has been shared by many peple here..i.e win doesn't go to sleep mode. In my case when ever i put the sys to sleep mode, the screen turns off but the power button doesn't blinks and i can't go back to the normal mode by using mouse curser or pressing the power button back. I have to physically shut down the system by pressing the power button for 5 seconds.         Also, my system won't shut down properly and it is the same as the sleep mode probem. I have contacted the customer care of microsoft and hp both and they did some setting changes but the problem keeps coming back. I have also told by the hp care that they will take atleast a month or two to fix this as this may be due to hardware not supporting the current driver so this might take time. They also told me to just downgrade to win 8.1 and after sometime when this poblem is fixed i can again install and upgrade win 10. If any of you guys know how to fix this problem do share it here.      thanks!!

    Hi ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!
I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 15 p017tu Notebook and issues with the sleep mode and shut down not working correctly. Go into the Device Manger and go to display adapters. Update the driver. Select the Automatically search for updated drivers.
Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updating after Windows 10 upgrades . I hope this helps. Thanks.

  • Power mac G5 unexpectedly goes in sleep mode or shut down.

I have a very strange problem.
I was using my 2 year old G5 without any problem untill some weeks ago. Randomly it would go into sleep mode without any mesage, you could start it again by pressing any key. It would start working for a little while(minutes), but then it would freeze and either go in sleep mode again or eventually it would shut down (without any mesage). However the little light above the power button would stay on. If you don't touch the keyboard or computer it will try to start again by itself.
If in sleep mode it will just come back with the screens I was in or it will boot and try to go to login. I say try because sometime it will shutdown again before that.
It is not predictable when it will happen. Sometimes it doesn't happen for days and then suddenly two days in a row.
I thought it could have something to do with the power supply so I bought a ups power system, didn't help.
Who can help me with this?
    Power Mac G5, 1.6 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I did the PMU reset, but it didn't solve the problem. Two days later my computer had a nother episode.
I checked the console.log after that and didn't find any temperature messages.

  • Mac Wi-Fi disconnects after in sleep mode or shut down

Whenever I shut down or sleep my iMac and log back in, the Wi-Fi is not connected.  In Network Preferences, it states that the Mac has a self-assigned IP.  When I complete Network Diagnostics two or three times, the Wi-Fi will connect.  I am connected to Verizon and have an iMac Late 2012 OS 10.8.2.

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Though all of these steps may or may not be needed, I'm including them all.
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).
    Click OK.

As the last post suggests, call Apple and order a replacement original disc for about $17.  They will ask you the model and serial numbers.
Your retail version of Snow Leopard OS 10.6.3 will not work on that Mac as it requires a minimum of OS X 10.6.7 to boot and operate.
Another alternative is to again borrow another Mac to install your retail Snow Leopard into an external HD or partition, upgrade it to 10.6.8 and then clone it back to a partition on your MBP.

  • Since downloading the iOS on my iPad, I cannot download more than one pdf from mail to iBooks.  I have to shut down y iPad and start again.  Any suggestions?

Since downloading iOS on my new iPad, I cannot downlaod more than one pdf from mail into iBooks.  I have to shut down my iPad and restart it to save a second pdf. Wasn't a problem with the old operating system.  Any suggestions?

It seems that I have solved my issue by performing a full factory reset (erasing all content, something which I had hoped to avoid) restoring from an iCloud backup did not alleviate the issue, I had to set up as a new iPad.
Hopefully anyone else else who has this issue in the future will be able to find this.

  • Can we put RAC database in Archivelog mode without shutting down

    All,
Can we put RAC database in Archivelog mode without shutting down.
Currently our new production database (2 node RAC) is in no archive log mode, Need to enable archive log in the database...
I believe we need to set the cluster_database=false and then put the DB in archive log mode then we need to bounce the database to take effect...
Just curious to know in 11gR2 ...Can we put the RAC database in archive log mode without any downtime ...?

Even RAC or non-RAC, database should bounced and enable/disable archive log mode from mount status.

  • Changing archive log mode without shutting down database

    Hi all,
Is there any way to set the database to archive log mode before shutting down the database and when the database shuts and starts, the database should be automatically in archive log mode?
because we can not shutdown the database in weekdays and we have system reboot on weekend and we are not here on that day. So is there a way to set the database in archive log at the memory level so that when the database reboots, it should automatically start in archive log mode.
my environment is windows server 2008 R2 with oracle 11.2.0.3
    Thanks in advance.

thank you for the reply Max Seleznev,
First I thought of writing script in order to include in that process. But we can not run any commands in the sqlplus using the windows jobs. for eg:
you can write a batch file as below:
    cd \
    sqlplus / as sysdba
    select name,open_mode from v$database;
when you run this, it will open until sqlplus prompt but then will not execute the query.
What did you expect? Well, actually, I know what you expected. But think about it for a second. You have a batch file with the mentioned three lines. How does that batch file get processed .. what is happening when it is being processed?
It is not being processed by sqlplus, it is being processed by the windows command processor. Just like the cmd.exe. Each line is read by the command processor and executed accordingly. So ....
cd \the command processor calls 'cd' , and passes the value '\' to do with as it sees fit. 'cd' then changes the current directory of the session to whatever is indicated by the passed parameter. in this case, that value is '\' , so the resulting current directory is the base (root, in *nix terms) of the current drive.  When 'cd' has finished, it returns control to the command processor, who then reads the next line ....
sqlplus / as sysdbathe command processor calls sqlplus.exe and passes it the command line parms '/ as sysdba' to do with as it (sqlplus) sees fit. sqlplus does whatever it does with what it has been given In this case it tries to connect to whatever local database is indicated by the value of ORACLE_SID, then waits for more input. Whenever sqlplus exits (how does it know to exit?) it returns control to the command processor, who then reads the next line ....
select name,open_mode from v$database; The command processor will read this line and attempt to find an executable file named 'select' and pass it the rest of the command line 'name,open_mode from v$database;'
Hmm, what do you suppose will happen with that operation?
that is the reason I am figuring out whether there is an alternate way.yes but you have to use the proper technique. And since you are building this into a production stop/start without testing the actual stop/start commands ... what do you suppose will be the outcome if something goes wrong?
After hours and weekend work is one reason DBA's make more money than developers.

If you have your MBP charger, try a SMC reset:

If no success, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar.

  • 10.5.3 on imac G5 deep sleep, won't shut down, fan runs hard

I updated to 10.5.3 from 10.5.2 on my 17" early iMac G5 and left for the weekend. When I got home, the fan on the computer was loud and the computer wouldn't wake up. I had to use the shut down button. Later, I left for a couple of hours, came back, fan loud, deep sleep, and the shut down button wouldn't work so I unplugged the computer. This happened again this evening. Checked software update and there is nothing new there.

Consider your iMac is almost dead. My first iMac was a G5 and it did not took to long till the fans got louder and louder. It was still in warranty and I took it to Apple Service. They replaced the mainboard.
Hope this info is of help!

While performing a system update, I shut down my iPod touch. Can the pictures on my iPod be recovered if my iPod was not backed up?
iPod is fourth generation, the system update was a little over half complete.
I want to get the pictures off the iPod so that I can keep them. Is there any way to do this?

    Maybe,
    - if when you connect the iPod to your computer you can make a backup? If yes yo can restore from that backup
iOS: How to back up and restore your content
    - Go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and see if there is a backup dated when you started the update. the first stiep of an update is iTunes making a backup.
    - If you used PhotoStream then try getting them from your PhotoStream. See that topic of:
