Charging Playbook

Does anyone know what to do when the inside of the plug itself (on the tablet) snaps right off?  I went and got new cords thinking that was the problem, but the actual little thingie snapped right off.  HELP PLEASE - can't use the tablet because of course now I can't charge it :-(.

Your only options now are either to get the mini usb port changed, which could be costly or invest in a desktop rapid charger which utilizes a magnet and the three prong plug on the bottom of the PB..can be purchased at Amazon for about $40

My PlayBook is currently charging and every time I press the power-button to go to standby-mode, the screen comes back on and wants me to log in again.
I hope this is a bug and not a "feature".
I know that charging while turned off is not possible (another idiotic "feature") but I hope at least there is a solution for my problem.

I have the latest BlackBerry TabletOS and am using a 5V-1A-output charger (only difference to original charge is the 1A instead of 1.8) because the US-wall-charger won't fit into my Austrian wall sockets
When charging via my Mac's USB-port does not turn on the PlayBook-screen (but takes forever to charge because the USB-output isn't enough).
There are no applications running, WiFi is turned off and the Bridge isn't installed/activated because I don't own a BlackBerry smartphone.

  • Is it safe to charge playbook (no wifi) with phone charger?

    hi there,
    i lost my playbook charger,
im looking to buy new but im afraid that i might choose wrong due to uncertain of power output for playbook.
so im lil bit confuse what output for playbook charger ? and is it safe to use phone charger instead of playbook charger while the tablet is on or is better when is off?

I have the above Rapid Charging Stand and it is excellent but be aware that the PlayBook will not sit on this with a case. In that case you may wish to consider the Rapid Travel Charger available at a similar price. More bulky than the original charger but none the less a great product.

  • Unable to charge playbook battery

Received a playbook as a gift and it will not charge - the message states battery level critically low and asks to connect to power source (it is)   what can I do as the unit won't charge?

Plug the device in to the charger, BlackBerry log up. Make sure you use the charger that came with the Playbook as a standard BlackBerry phone charger will not work.
If that still doesn't work can you connect the charger to another device and see if it charges the other device? We need to try and determine whether it's the charger or the Playbook.

  • Charging Playbook with 2.4A Apple charger - no way...

    Hi,
My playbook (16GB, WLAN-model, running latest 2.1-SW) came with the Playbook stock charger that works OK so far.
Since I'm taking my Playbook to the office every day I want to be able to charge it at the office; with charging I mean *real* charging not just the standard USB "trickle charge" at 500mA.
So I went out to buy me a high-power USB-charger and finally got me a 12W Apple charger since this privides 2.4A output, more than enough to charge the Playbook requiring 2.1A peak.
However when I use this charger to charge the playbook it basically does nothing (no bolt on the display to indicate charging) - tried different USB cables, re-seating the plug, disconnecting/reconnecting cables - no way.
I also tried to used it for charging my Bold9900; I only get a notice here saying that the power source doesn't provide enough power.
Finally I hooked up the charger to my Z10 - it charged without problems so far.
    So my questions are:
Has the Playbook any special pinout when it comes to charging signalling to the charger it's ready for "more juice"?
Shouldn't a charger being capable of running at 2.4A deliver 2.A peak to any device?
Is there any special "signalling" when it comes to USB-charging between charger and device to be charged where they agree on the charging current - defaulting to 500mA probably?
Any other ideas as to why I can't charge my playbook with this charger?
BTW, the Apple charger seems to be OK so far since I's able to charge other devices.
Thanks much in advance for any clue.

You can Google this as its been a while since I've had this discussion but I do know that Apple's hardware is wired differently than the PlayBook (and HP Touchpad and most other Android tablets). You would have to short out two wires in the cable itself to allow full currect transfer from any iDevice charger or cable to work with non Apple products. YouTube has videos on this if you don't believe me. Anyhow this was a real problem for car chargers and is how I know about this topic. Long story short, don't buy Apple specific chargers and expect them to work on the PlayBook.
One useful tip is to go to ebay and look up the HP Touchpad's barrel charger. They are 2.1A and will charge the PlayBook and other non Apple tablets just fine. I have used mine for over a year with the PlayBook without issue. It will also charge your cell phones at rapid speed too. They are cheap, portable, can interchange plugin heads with those of other countries (UK plugs for example) and come apart with a standard micro usb cord at the plug itself to minimize stress on the PlayBook's fragile microUSB port. You can find them for less than $10. I've seen them for $5 before.
In fact, here is a thread http://forums.crackberry.com/blackberry-playbook-f222/very-cheap-playbook-charging-solution-touchpad... at Crackberry's forums I posted on this very subject and it has images and full power specs

  • Charging Playbook with Desktop Charger

Ever since the upgrade to 2.1, I haven't been able to charge my Playbook  using the desktop charger. I can use the cord that came with the Playbook; but that doesn't help at night when I usually have the device on the charger and use the Playbook as an alarm clock. When I put it on the dock , the charging symbol comes on; but it actually starts to drain the battery. Ideas???

The Rapid charger should have no effect to any OS update as its run direct from your home wall socket plug but however if its the other type of desktop charger that runs from USB as opposed to the small 3 pin dock port on the rapid charger then yes you will have this problem as a lot of us have since the update as RIM has changed the charge allowence through USB to lower the amount taken in to the Playbook disregarding any other threads on here saying otherwise, as we all know the USB Charging worked just fine before this 1032 update and now its a no go zone due to the OS change so if you are lucky enough to have a Rapid charger then you should be ok but if not then i would look at the charger rather than the playbook on this one? As to the Calender and Contacts that is reported on another thread here http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-PlayBook/Update-2-1-0-1088-is-released/td-p/196374... following a prompt RIM update to 1088, sadly im not updating at the moment so cannot comment on the New OS Update.

  • PlayBook doesn't charge after OS update

I have a serious problem with my BlackBerry PlayBook. It is not getting charged even though I connect it to the power for hours. I believe the problem started after the recent OS update. I tried both USB charging as well as using power cable, but there wasn't any change.
I can turn on PlayBook and use it while the power cable is connected. The charging icon is also shown. But it is always showing 0% and the PlayBook get turned off soon after I disconnect power. There isn't any physical damages to PlayBook and power cable. Also it hadn't completely drained out before this problem occurred. After OS update even though I tried charging PlayBook while it has around 20% charge it didn't get charged.
I read some other posts about holding down the power and volume up and down buttons. But it didn't work. Anyone know what might be wrong?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Playbook battery dead, how to charge it?

    Hey guys.
I've been looking for all kinds of answers about it, tried the 20secs power then plug into wall outlet etc...nothing worked.
All I could do is plug my PB into my computer, and when it prompts me to update the tablet OS, as long as I don't try to do it (the download fails for some reason) the PB is still connected with a steady green light.
    So my question would be:
    - should I leave it charging this way, with a steady green light?
    - should I put it back on the power outlet for at least a few days?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Cheap way to rapidly charge your PlayBook.

I want to share some findings with you in case this helps someone else in future. I tried to charge my PlayBook with the HP TouchPad USB plug (barrel type) and it works perfectly fine (Green lightning bolt icon appears - no errors). So if you want a cheap way to charge your PlayBook, buy one of these.
    http://www.amazon.com/Charger-Adapte...rackberry00-20 ($8.99 with cable)
    http://www.amazon.com/Charger-Adapte...rackberry00-20 ($4.99 without cable)
Here are the specs of both charger types:
BlackBerry Rapid Charger (the one with fold out prongs and ships with the device):
    Input: 100-240V - 300mA 50-60Hz
    Output: 5V - 1.8A
    http://ca.shopblackberry.com/Product/BlackBerry-Premium-Charger/ACC-39343-301
    HP TouchPad Barrel Charger:
    Input:100-240V - 0.4A 50-60Hz
    Output: 5.3V - 2A
The benefit of using the TouchPad charger is that the cable comes off so you can use a normal charging micro USB cable bought from Monoprice.com for $1.73 and you can get a lot longer cord (in this case 15 feet). http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2
You could spend $38.99 on a genuine BB replacement or $6.72 (devices bought seperately - not including shipping charges though) for one that has a 15 foot cord, is multi-use and comes apart...

I'd recommend for anyone to get the magnetic rapid charger and leave the more fragile USB port to data transfer.
    http://www.amazon.com/Blackberry-Rapid-Travel-Charger-Playbook/dp/B004XBZ728
$25USD, and sometimes as low as $20 according to the seller.

  • My experience of Playbook and RIM customer support

On Oct 26, 2012, I purchased BlackBerry 32G Playbook from
The Source. I contacted BlackBerry support on Dec 27, 2012 as I was having problem charging it using the charger that came
with the Playbook. The charging cable connects to charging port on the playbook
very loosely and it doesn’t seem to make good stable contact. After some
troubleshooting over the phone, I was told to ship the Playbook for repair.
I was issued an RMA. The Playbook was sent on
Jan 7, 2013 to Lavergne, TN for repair. I received the playbook on Jan 14, 2013
from Lavergne, TN. It came with no note as what was the problem and how it was
    fixed.
On receiving, I soon found out that I still cannot charge
the unit. Called BlackBerry Support again. I was frustrated with same questions
from call center person and she hang up on me. I called them back and it was a
different person. Customer Service representative told me that they cannot see
what repairs if any were done by their facility in Lavergne, TN. I was issued a
new. One more time, the unit was sent back to Lavergne, TN for
repair on Jan 21, 2013. This time, I put a note with Playbook for repair
department to notify me as what was the problem and how it was fixed.
The unit came back from Lavergne, TN on Jan 28, 2013. There
was no note as what was wrong with the unit and how it was fixed. I soon found
out that unit is still not charging. Called the BlackBerry Customer Service
again and I was very frustrated at their sheer inability to fix the problem.
After a very long unpleasant conversation, I was told that they will put a hold
on my credit card and will send me a replacement unit. To avoid being charged,
I need to send my Playbook in 10 business days.
Since I’m out options, I grudging agreed. They couldn’t even tell me if
the replacement unit is going to be a new or refurbished. I was issued new RMA.
I received the replacement Playbook on Jan 30, 2013. Thought
my troubles were over finally. But then I tried my charger to charge the
replacement Playbook and the chargers cable won’t fit into the Playbook. So I
called Customer Service again, this time demanding my money back and they can
    have their Playbook back.
So far I tried three BlackBerry chargers and none of them
cannot charge the Playbook. Every time, I called Customer Service, I was told
to troubleshoot the problem myself. A customer service representative that hang
up on me told me to go to any nearby store, borrow a charger from store to see
    if my Playbook would charge.
The entire month of the Jan 2013 I didn’t get to use the
Playbook. Since I cannot charge Playbook, I cannot use it at all. I got to use
it for less than 2 months and I spent over $200 for a lemon, a horrible
customer/technical support and very long headaches. I had to take Tylenol after
every call to BlackBerry customer service.

Is your PlayBook in a case by any change? I have a friend who had his in a case. When he tried charging it, the plug would not fit in properly and would not charge. Apparently, the hole cut in the case was just a bit too tight so the plug would not go in all the way. He had to remove it from the case in order to charge it up.

  • Faulty charging unit

I have had 2 playbooks in under 8 months and the orginal on developed a fault that turned out to be a problem with the charging point -where you plug the charger into the playbook- and the playbook doesn't reconigse that you have connected the charger to it and if you try to connect it to your computer it doen't reconigse that either. The shop where i got it from gladly gave me and brand new one, problem solved or so i thought...5 months later and the new one developed the same fault. Does anyone else have the same problem?

You should try out the rapid travel charger that connects to the magnetic port, not the USB.

  • My BB Playbook doesn't charge and turn on. Nothing can solve this problem. Please help!!!!

    Hi everybody!
My BB playbook doesn't charge and turn on.
When I tried to charge it,  at first ,the red color appears for 10 seconds and after the green color starts blinking several times. And that's all. Every time when I am charging it the same thing is repeating. What should I do in this case???
If someone knows how to solve this issue please HELP!

    Hey LM344,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
If you're receiving the flashing green LED light, it sounds like the BlackBerry PlayBook battery is completely drained.  I suggest plugged the BlackBerry PlayBook into the wall charger for several hours to get a charge again.
Let me know if the issue still persists after charging it after several hours.
    Cheers.

  • Bought app in order to sync itunes with a blackberry playbook.  Now Itunes will open on my computer but when i plug  my ipods in to charge or sync, itunes is not showing that they are plugged in. Cant charge or anything!

Obviously not too smart with all this technology.  I puchased a Blackberry Playbook Tablet and wanted to sync my itunes music, so following directions on the Playbook, I downloaded this app - Daniel Bingham Itunes sync - and when I went to my pc, I pulled it up, plugged in my Playbook and it did sync all my music from my Itunes library to the Playbook.  However, now when I plug an ipod in my pc to charge or sync more music, my pc is not showing it recognizes any of my ipods being plugged in.  It makes no mention of any of my ipods being connected!  I also keep getting this "Found New Hardware Wizard" box that keeps popping up everytime I plug an ipod in - it originally showed up when I had Playbook plugged in to download all its info (I think) but it never completes, saying not compatible - so I click cancel. I have since clicked on remove New found hardware but it still pops up. Why does it continue to show with every Ipod now?  Any idea on what I can do to repair this situation?  Please help!

  • Charging LED issue with my new Playbook

    Hi All,
I purchased a new playbook I have installed OS update for 1.0.8XXXX, as per support documents the LED should blink in Green color while charging but mine doesn't do that also it behaves wierdly. Its always in amber or Red color, yesterday I plugged in the device for 6 hrs to complete charging but at 83% it stays there doesn't move further and LED is still Red. After I restarted a few times now the LED is in Amber color and charge level is 65%, I remeber once it came up green when I retsrtaed but immediatly went amber again. I am new to this device  and not sure if that LED just indicate charge level or if it has some other function as well..
Also I can't adjust screen brightness I am using the slider bar on the battery icon the slider moves but no changes in brightness level..
    Raam

something seems wonky. i would bring it back to place of purchase for a replacement
