Charging Quest

Hi. Can someone tell me how can I know when the battery in my Zen Touch is fully charged? Is it fully charged when it has the 3 bars?

Thanks SSR.

Will the official Creative Car Charger allow you to use the Zen Micro if the battery is completely dead? I bought a cheap usb car adapter and it doesn't seem to work correct at all. I am looking for a way to power the Zen Micro in the car if the battery is drained- I am assuming from Creative's product description you can use their adapter to power the Zen in the car if the battery is completely drained.
We really like the Zen micro but have had continous problems with the battery. I've updated firmware and have done everything recommended in the FAQ in regards to conserving the battery. My wife primarily uses the Zen in the car to replace her cd's. It is not used that often (maybe 2-3 hours a week) but seem to not hold a chage at all. The only way we have found to fully charge the unit is through the usb port on our computer. So basically we are looking for a way to power the Zen in the car regardless if the battery is charged.
    Thanks,
    Scott

I'm pretty sure if the battery is dead the Micro won't work even if plugged in. I remember trying to use a demo unit at a store and the battery was dead. They plugged it into its charger and it still wouldn't work. It said it was charging but the battery had to build up a charge before it would work.

Will ZVM work with an Ipod's wall charger? (via that long slot directly under the player.)

    no.

  • Zen MicroPhoto Charging Quest

Question, I charge my zen microphoto with my USB cord, but when ever I plug it in, it always turns on the player on. I then shut it off, but when I come back, the player is always turned on again. Is this normal, or am I doing something wrong?
    thanks!

I think the other icon that you haven't seen yet is the icon for the battery being fully charged. It's a little plug. It seems that you MicroPhoto is completely charged since when you unplug it the battery icon is green. When it is done charging it will shut down automatically.

  • Zen Micro Charging Quest

When the micro stops glowing when charging does it mean its done?

    I think you'll notice:
    a. At least when it's turned on, the icon changes from the shape of a battery to the shape of an AC plug when it is fully charged. I understand that it continues to trickle charge for about 30 minutes after that, though.
    b. When the unit is turned off, it will glow when charging and the battery icon will show up. When it stops glowing, the unit also turns itself off -- and the icon disappears altogether. I haven't been in the room when it was charging to see if it turns into a plug icon before it turns itself off.

  • MicroPhoto Charging quest

Just wondering, will the micro photo stil charge if connected to my PC by USB if my PC is in standby? My PSP does, so I don't see why the micophoto should't, but I better check lol.

uhh may be a stupid question but does your computer have to be on for it to charge? is it just me or is charging by usb a bad idea because what if you want to put songs on and you keep plugging it in and out, doesnt that ruin the battery cause it will want to keep charging....

  • Micro battery charging quest

Normally when my Micro is fully charged, the blue backlight turns off. The last time I charged it, the blue backlight stayed on constantly after a full charge. Is this a problem? Everything is functioning properly with the player, but I was curious if this means I should do a disk clean up or something. Thanks for any help.

I'd do a Clean-Up if I did any major changes or loaded/deleted a lot of music or if I've encountered a repeated problem. This doesn't sound like a major issue at all but if it continues to happen and negati'vely affects the player in some way ( shortened battery life, firmware trouble, freezing) go through the normal trouble shooting steps which does include a disk clean up

  • Zen V plus charging quest

Can I use the uni'versal travel adapter that comes with the Zen Micro to charge the Zen V plus?

While I'm in this topic, I have a question. If I bought the uni'versal power adapter, can I play my Zen V while it is charging?

  • AC Charger Quest

Does anyone know if the AC charger from a RIO Carbon will work on a Zen Micro Photo? The cords are the same, but I dunno if the hot pins in the USB 2.0 jack are the same, or if the voltage is the same. MAny thanks for any info in adance. -Citizenken

If the Carbon can also charge via USB from the PC chances are it's the same, as pins and 4 are used for providing the power.
It's been noted that you need the latest firmware to get third party chargers to work well.

  • Alas, another Zen Micro charging quest

I searched the boards and didn't find anything quite like my problem:
When I use the AV outlet to charge my Micro, it doesn't show the little lightning bolt thingy, but the "docked" sign thingy. Anbody have any solutions?

    Is this using Creative's adapter?
It shouldn't display the docked sign, it should just show the charging icon (if necessary of course).
Have you tried removing and reseating the battery?
It's also worth making sure you have at least the .02.05 firmware.

  • Zen V Plus Wall Charger Quest

I was wondering if anybody knows if the wall charger that comes with my Motorola Razr V3M Cell Phone will work with the Zen V Plus. If the answer is no are any of the V Plus chargers sold on eBay any good. Thanks for any help.
    Phil

Probably not. I have a Zen V and could not get my USB charger to work, though I can charge it with the computer's USB port. I am trying to figure out a way to make it work. There are only four wires on a USB connection. One is 5V and the other is ground. The other two being the data. I read somewhere that in order to charge Zen V, it has to "sense " the presence of the charger.

  • Zen Micro Battery USB Charging Quest

As I understand it, it is best to fully charge and then fully discharge the battery, especially in the first few uses, but the player automatically charges though the USB cable when I hook it up to put songs on it.
What am I supposed to be doing - leaving it on all night to discharge in between CD ripping sessions? And if it is discharged, can I just hook it up to the computer to charge it, or am I supposed to charge it with the power cable first and then hook it up to the computer? I'm not sure what the best thing to do is.

    DavisMcDavis,
Only during the first few charges is there any advantage to doing a full recharge followed by a full discharge. After about the first 3 then it is better to do partial recharges. Plugging it into USB for transfers shouldn't cause any problems, but try to avoid any really lengthy connections (over an hour, except for full recharges of course) until it have discharged and recharged the first few times. This is the best way to condition the battery.

  • Zen Micro USB Charger quest

I have a Zen Micro 6gb. I also have a Belkin travel kit that I bought for my Sony PDA. The kit comes with a cable that connects to the PDA on one end and the USB on the other. It also came with a auto and home adapter. The adapters have a USB port so that the USB end of the cable plugs into the adapter and it becomes a charger.
My question is does anyone think this may work for my ZM. If I plug the USB cable from the ZM into the auto or home adapter, would it charge the ZM without damaging it.
As info the specs on the adapters are:
    Auto
    Input : 2 - 24Vdc
    Output: 5.5Vdc; 700mA
    Home
    Input: 00 - 240VAC; 0.3A
    Output: 5.5Vdc; .0A

  • Dumb Micro charging quest

I've just started charging my brand new Zen Micro for the first time, and I don't know how I'm going to know when it's done. I can't find anything about it in the users' manual. Right now the icon is toggling between a battery icon and a lightning bolt icon. How can I tell when its done?
    Thanks!

I would leave it another 30 minutes after the lightning bolt goes out as it does a trickle charge for another 30 minutes or so.
