Charging & Syncing an Ipad 1

Hi,  my ipad 1 is less than a year old and for the last couple of weeks I've had problems syncing and charging the ipad.  When connected to the computer (windows pc) it comes up as an unrecognised device.  When trying to charge it using an AC adaptor it takes forever to actually recognise the connection and start charging.  It's taking longer and longer to actually get the charge going.  Any suggestions????
Thanks

Disable anti virus software then try restoring your iPad > iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software
When trying to charge it using an AC adaptor it takes forever to actually recognise the connection and start charging.
If a restore fails, the battery may need replacing.

  • I plugged my IPAd 2 into my computer to charge and it said i could sync my ipad 2 to my ipad 1 so i did for music ect yet when i went back on my ipad 2 ALL of my important notes i took for school were gone off of notes! how do i get them back!?

I plugged my IPAD 2 into my computer to charge and a window popped up saying (through itunes) i could sync from my ipad 1 to get music and other photos ect. I pressed yes and then i went onto my ipad 2 after it was done and ALL of my VERY IMPORTANT notes for my school reading were GONE. HELP!? how do i recover my notes?!

Did you create these notes in the iPad notes App ... I assume?
This support article will explain how you can restore from a backup - which is what you have to do in order to have any chance of recovering your note.
How to backup and restore from a backup
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
But you have to remember, that you will lose any of the notes that you have taken since the date of the last backup. If you synced your iPad last week, then you will lose a whole week of current notes - or whatever notes you have created since your last backup. When you restore from a backup - you restore everything in that backup onto the iPad - that was on the iPad on the time and date of the backup.
If you backup every day, then all of your notes should be recoverable from the backup - except for any notes that you took since you last backed up. There is no foolproof way to recover everything once you start taking more notes or creating new documents or whatever that you do in an app unless you are syncing those notes with iCloud and backing up all of the time or unless the app is set to sync with iCloud as you work on the files - like in Pages, Numbers or Keynote - Apple's iWorks apps.
If you decide to restore from an iTunes backup you should turn off at sync before you try restoring because iTunes will want to backup your iPad right away when you plug it in and you will lose your old or last backup.

  • IPad's charging/syncing ICON with new cable.

I just bought a replacement charging/sync cable for my iPad.  Now the symbol quickly goes from the lightning ICON to the plug ICON.  When I plug it into my iMac, the iPad doesn't read "Not Charging" anymore but again goes from the lightning ICON to the plug ICON.  What is the difference between the (previously steady) lightning ICON and the plug ICON?  Is my iMac now charging the iPad due to a higher quality cable?  Did Apple change the ICONs?  I don't remember what the ICON was when it was syncing.

    Michael-
Your new cable works like mine now.  I think the lightning symbol only appears when it is charging.
The USB port on your Mac can charge the iPad, but very slowly, and then mainly when the iPad is asleep.  When awake, the iPad consumes about as much current as the Mac can supply.

  • IPad no charging/syncing

iPad will not charge! I am using the charger that came with the iPad. When connected it states "not charging". I know it is charging at a slower rate and also when connected to pc, iTunes does no recognize it. I can not sync! iPad will charge with my iPhone charger.I tried using iPhone USB to connect iPad to pc and it still does not recognizes the iPad.

You could try restarting the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up, hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears. Try to charge now.
You could try resetting the iPad as well. Press and hold down on the sleep button and the home button at the same time for about 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo appears - ignore the red slider. Try charging.
Also - try to connect to iTunes again after restarting/resetting. If you still have no luck ..... Read this about the device not being recognized in iTunes.

Unknown Error containing "0xE" when restoring
To resolve this issue, follow the steps in iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Unknown error containing '0xE' when connecting. If you have a Windows computer with an Intel® 5 series/3400 series chipset, you may need updates for your chipset drivers. See iTunes for Windows: Issues syncing iOS devices with P55 and related Intel Chipsets for more information.

  • IMac will not charge/sync iPad Air - power icon oscillates between charging/not charging

    Brand new iMac 27" Retina
Connecting an iPad Air (about a year old) to charge/sync/backup.
After the lightning connector is attached to the iPad Air and I reply "OK" to "Trust this computer", the charging indicator in the upper right oscillates between the running on battery indicator and the green charging indicator rapidly/constantly about 1/2 second between changes.
If I run iTunes, the device appears/disappears in the left menu/device list at the same rate.
I cannot charge the iPad when connected to the iMac (not a big deal, can use external charger), but cannot access with iTunes for sync or backup either.
Have tried cold booting both the iPad and the iMac, but that doesn't help.
Running OX X Yosemite and iOS 8.1.1

    Hey rspiv,
The reason you are not getting a consistent charge on you iPad when it is connected to your iMac may be due to not being plugged into a high-powered USB port. As far as making sure that it stays connected to your iMac so you can sync with iTunes, try a different port as well as seeing if you can enable Wi-Fi syncing if it stays connected long enough. Take a look at the articles below for more information and troubleshooting options.

i tried to sync my ipad to my itunes using usb but it will say not charging,, i can sync with my ipod touch without any problem... please help..

    From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4060 :
The fastest way to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter. When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge, but only when it's in sleep mode.
iPods need less power to charge them (their wall charger is half the power of the iPad's, 5W as opposed to 10W), so are more likely to charge via USB

  • IPad 2 sometimes charges/syncs, sometimes not

I've searched high and low for the same topic, but nothing yet.
I just bought an iPad2 about 5 months ago, brand new from box.  It worked fine, but then beginning a month ago, it would randomly charge/sync to my laptop and other times randomly it would not.  Tonight, it is randomly NOT charging, nor syncing, in anyway with any I/O power source.
    1)  I am using the 30-pin charger wire that came with the device from box and am positive I am NOT confusing it with the basic iPod wire.
    2)  I tried alternating between using the wall charger that came with the device and charging it that way. - No lightning bolt sign, not charging from wall.
    3)  I tried alternating with different USB ports which have worked without any problems prior on my laptop (Toshiba - Windows running latest version of iTunes) - No lightning bolt sign, iPad is not even activating iTunes application, nor appearing in ITunes devices
    4)  I rebooted my laptop twice, just to be sure that it wasn't a faulty USB driver problem, as Toshiba's are wonky sometimes. - No change.
    5)  I tried hooking up my iPod Nano to my laptop, just to be sure that it wasn't an overall Apple, and/or Toshiba device meltdown.  - iPod Nano is recognized, synching and charging just fine on my Toshiba from USB port.
    6) I tried rebooting my iPad device - no change, device not activating iTunes, not showing up in computer, not being charged in wall charger that came with the device.
    7) No, I did NOT hack my iPad, nor did I install any illegal iOS versions of software.  *I wouldn't have a clue how to actually....
    8) iPad2 currently has 92% charge.  It is NOT overloaded with data, and still has plenty of room (about 7 gigs left)
I'm afraid to reset iPad2, because if I wipe all of the information that I have and it still doesn't recognize the device, I am sunk, basically.
Anyone have any other options, or might they know what the problem could be?
*PS: I didn't drop the iPad, didn't spill anything on it, didn't splice wires, didn't leave it in the sun... etc., etc.
It seems to work fine other than I can't get it to sync and charge at all.  Wi-Fi is fine, iCloud is turned off, so I can manually sync to a PC.

Take it into your local apple store. Mine acted up similarly and it turns out the 30 pin port was bad. Barring any obvious signs of abuse or neglect it should fall under the manfacturer's defects and be replaced..

  • Trying to sync my IPad but can't get it to "communicate" with my computer.  Keeps telling me "not connecting"

I have been trying to Sync my IPAD to my computer for over an hour, I cannot get it to show that it's "plugged" in.  I keep getting the "not charging" showing in my upper corner.  Is there anything I can do to get it to sync?
There is nothing wrong with the cable as I just synced my IPHONE and have synced with my IPAD in the past.  I am beyond frustrated.

Let me take up the comment by King Penguin who is right about the charging issue with some computers: not all USB 2 ports are equal apparently.  However, I did read somewhere that even those that are not showing a charging may allow some trickle-charging to occur (take you about 12 hours to notice anything).
However, I think the problem here is that not only is charging not taking place, but the iPad is not shown in the sidebar.  There are usually two possible causes here: the hardware (which in BrookeLeigh's case could be the iPad or its connector) or the software.
In the latter case, no iOS device will probably be shown (IPad, iPhone or iPod touch), which could be what is afflicting tahnehdo.  Nonetheless, before trying some of the fixes Apple suggests, a check with another cable (or computer -- be careful not to sync) might tell you if this is hardware.
If not, Apple KB documents are useful in tracking down and fixing the problem.  Start with this http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/itunes/ Troubleshooting guide and work your way through. Note there are different processes for Windows and Macs.
It would be helpful if you could put some more information as even knowledge of the OS will mean a different approach may need to be taken.  We do not know if it is iPad 1 or 2, the OS, the computer you have or if you have other iOS devices that could help you in analysis.

  • How can i sync 15 iPads to 1 iTunes account quickly and easily?

I am in charge of 15 iPads in my school.
I would like to sync all the ipads to one itunes account easily and quickly. At the moment i am doing this manually 1 at a time.
The ipads do all have apps on them now, but when i download new apps or software updates, i have to sync it across each ipad 1 at a time through itunes.
I would also like to create a new itunes account, to keep 1 set (15) of ipads sperate from another set we have in school. Could i transfer purchases to the new itunes from 1 iPad, then sync across the remaining 14?
We have a spare computer that could soley be used for itunes or alternatiely, i have a personal macbook pro, that has my personal library on it.
The ipads are contained in a storage/charging station, that can be connected to a pc/mac via a usb cable (connection is similar to a printer port, then into USB).
I have connected the container to the pc via USB and itunes recognises the 15 ipads, but i still have to sync them individually.
I would like to be able to connect the container, click sync and leave it over night, rather than sit there for hours.
    Is this possible?
Must be other people in similar situations as many schools have ipads now.
    Thanks in advance!

This may be over the top for 15 ipads.

  • ITunes no longer syncs with iPad 1 or iPhone 4

I can not longer sync my iPad 1 or iPhone 4 to my Mac Pro (Lion) Everything was fine yesterday (with Lion); not sure what changed. My iPhone will charge thru the USB cable, but my iPad will not. I have tried restarting iTunes, my Mac Pro and my iPad. Does anyone have any ideas?????? Thanks in advance!

I am having the same issues with my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 not mounting within iTunes every since the iTunes update. I know my USB is working but this is crazy. I had a thought and redowned the updater 10.6.8 thinking it was a bad install still the same issues. Sorry I couldn't help. I am also looking for the answers.

  • My battery life between charges on my ipad 1 has plummeted to about 2 hours.  The guy at the genius bar suggested it might be an app (unfortunately I didn't have the device with me).  Does anyone know of apps that cause heavy drains on power?  Thanks!

The battery life between charges on my iPad has plummeted to about 2 hours.  The guy at the genius bar said the charge should last about 10 hours and suggested it might be an app (unfortunately I didn't have the device with me and the nearest Apple Store to me is 2 hours away).  Does anyone know of apps that cause heavy drains on power?  It also does not charge when it is plugged into my MacBook while I am using the iPad but it does when I am not using the iPad.  I mostly use the iPad to read e-mails, play Team Lava games, read books through iBooks or Kobo and the ABC Player.  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

Restore is about the only option left, short reinstalling the whole thing as new.
Before you restore, go to I tunes and turn off automatic sync.  Then plug the machine in.  Upload any photos that you have taken with the pad into I photos, or where ever you keep your pictures.  Then, in I tunes, transfer any purchases.
If any apps or purchased music get lost in the process, you can download them again for free.
You do not want to make a backup of what you have on the pad now. If you do, when you restore, you will simply recreate the same problem.
What you want to do is restore from a prior backup.  Do that.
Then run the system status app and see what the CPU numbers look like.  If they are ok, then you can start to re add apps until the problem shows up.
If this does not do it, then the last step is to set the pad up as new.  Check the numbers, then add the apps and settings back one by one.    While it is likely to be an app, it may be a setting somewhere.

  • ITunes freezes when syncing my iPad

Everytime I plug in my iPad 2 into iTunes, it starts the automatic sync, but when it starts "backing up" it only get like 5% progress and then the progress bar freezes. The rest of iTunes still works, I can listen to my music, browse my playslits, do anything else on iTunes, and the window even says that it's still syncing my iPad but an hour later, it's still at that 5% "backing up". I'll even unplug my iPad from my computer and it continues to say "backing up" without noticing that I unplugged the iPad. I just updated my iPad to iOS 5.1, and I need my music and applications, but I can't sync it, how do I fix this?

  • I could originally sync my iPad 3 to Mac pro but now it does not recognize the device.  It does on my MacBook however.

I could originally sync my iPad 3 on my Mac pro via iTunes.  Now the computer does not recognize the device and shows as "not charging" on the device screen.   It does still charge with the cord and will sync with my Mac book.  I have current iTunes software installed and running 10.6.8.  Any help would be appriciated.

Nope. iPads can only be synced with one iTunes library, and all content on the iPad would be erased if you tried to sync it with a different one.
