Charging the MacBook

Is there a way to charge the MacBook?
Do I have to give it a fulfilling charge in the beginning or can I just use it immediately after purchasing if the battery is partially charged?
Do I need to de-charge the battery every once in a while and full charge it back again?

Read the user manual that comes with the computer.

  • How many hours should stop charging the macbook pro retina first before using it?

How many hours should stop charging the macbook pro retina first before using it?

There is no requirement to charge for any predetermined amount of time. You can charge at any time, for any amount of time.

  • Is there any problem letting charge the macbook all night?

I have the new macbook pro and my question is that has any problem to charge the batteries of the macbook all the night, even if takes around 3 hours to complete.
It's gonna have some overcharge and burn something?
    thank you.

Rapha,  One thing to be aware of.  Li-Ion batteries, as all batteries do, have a finite number of charges before they die.  I suggest you keep your MacBook Pro plugged in most of the time and then once every month or two let it run down and do a full charge.    I have had my MacBook Pro for over a year and only disconnect it every two months and have had no problems with the battery.
This is from the same paragraph from the link posted. Always read the full article don't just pick one thing to hang on too.
If on the other hand, you use a desktop computer at work, and save a notebook for infrequent travel, Apple recommends charging and discharging its battery at least once per month.

  • Is it OK to charge the Macbook Air with charge for Macbook Pro?  45W to 60W...

Can I charge my Macbook Air with Macbook Pro charger?  It is 45W to 60W.
    What is impact?

You can use a higher wattage charger than the one that came with the computer, but not one of a lower wattage.

It appears that it may be defective.  Bring it and your Macbook to the Apple store for testing and probable replacement.

  • My charger's light won't turn on and it won't charge the MacBook

Hi guys, I have a MacBook that is around 2 years old and last night when I was going to plug in the charger, I didn't see the light turning on I have had this problem before but after 10-60 minutes it went back to normal, now I'm stuck with my unchargebable Mac and an iPad, I really need my Mac for next week and I live in Sk Canada and I believe there is no apple store in this province so I might have to send my Mac to Calgary and I don't know what to do, please someone help me!!

I have checked that before but I don't find it usefull, like I have done all of those things before, like cleaning the pins ect I just want my MacBook to turn on so I can send my stuff to another person and go to their house untill I find a way to solve this problem

  • How to charge my MacBook Pro Retina for the first time?

I just bought a brand new MacBook Pro 15inch 2.7ghz 16GB RAM model. I want to know how am I supposed to charge the laptop for the first time & plus charging cycles as I continue to use it later on? I've had bad experiences with the iP
There's mixed responses upon Googling the question, some say let it drain completely with others say to charge it when the battery reaches between 25%-5%. Currently my battery charge is at 33% and I haven't used it much either, say maximum an hour's usage in the past 6hours or so from the time I received it and it has not been on standby except for an hour, the remaining time, it was switched off completely. HELP.

Interesting, looking at this page from Apple http://www.apple.com/batteries/ and then following the links at the bottom for each device (notebook, iPod, iPad, iPhone) Apple seems to be recommending one deep cycle a month, that is a discharge to 0 and then a full charge.
For example from the iPhone page:
    Use iPhone Regularly
For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
So is Apple wrong here, or are they using different technology?

  • Charging my macbook in the car (additional question)

Hello so i have been researching charging my macbook in the car and something that a few people have brought up is using an AC/DC converter that plugs into the cigarette plug to charge their laptop. This seems like a much cheaper method, but i was wondering if it actually works and if so how? Thank you!

I've used this adapter, that is sold on the website with my MacBook. It has worked great for the 3+ months that I've been using it:

  • Can you charge a macbook by any other means than the power cord? For example the usb drive? My cord works fine but the outlet on the laptop is not.

The only way to charge a MBP is with a MagSafe power supply (wall or airline) try http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1713

  • What is the right way to charge a Macbook Pro, 13 inch Retina?

Hi! So I recently just got the Macbook Pro 13 inch w/ Retina Display (about 3 weeks ago), and the main reason why I got it was because I am taking up Multimedia Arts in college. I do admit that the MBP really is quite pricy, so I want to be able to use this for a long time, up until I graduate and get a job.
However, I'm a bit confused as to how to properly charge this Macbook. I've read on different posts, all of them contradicting each other. Some say that the Macbook should be plugged in all time, only unplugging it at least once or twice a week. But others say that it's better to unplug it when it's at 100%, and then when it's down to 50%, I should plug it back in. That's what I've been doing: I've been charging the Mac up to 100%, and then I unplug it. Once it reaches 40-50%, I plug it again. But, in just a span of three weeks, I've accumulated 19 charging cycles. Is that too much?
About a day ago, I tried charging it the other way, which is to plug it in the whole day. And currently, it's been plugged in for about 24 hours now. But, my classes are coming up and I'm planning on bringing my Mac to my classes, which would mean that I would have to unplug it most of the time as well.
I'm insanely worried about ruining the battery of this thing, because I would like this Macbook Pro to be used on a long-term basis.
Can anyone please help me out? How do I properly charge this? With simple instructions?
Any help will be appreciated. Thank you!

Keep the computer plugged in whenever possible.
If you keep the computer always plugged in, make sure that twice a month
run it on battery until battery level drops to about 50-40%.
    Standard Maintenance
For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time. An ideal use would be a commuter who uses her notebook on the train, then plugs it in at the office to charge. This keeps the battery juices flowing. If on the other hand, you use a desktop computer at work, and save a notebook for infrequent travel, Apple recommends charging and discharging its battery at least once per month
