Charging through USB

can someone tell me how to charge through USB? i've got a muvo2 fm and it says u can charge it through USB but i donno how to or yeah any help aprreciated

I have never used anything which charges through USB before, and tbh, would not have bought the zen micro had I known it didnt come with an adaptor (i'm very suspicious of the whole charging through USB thing)
So I guess I want some reassurance. I have a 600w PSU, hooked up to a DFI lanParty UltraB, g Ram, 9800PRO gfx card (which has it's own molex connector from the PSU), audigy2, 2 internal HD's, 2 CD/DVD dri'ves and my case is a Lian Li fishtank, with UV spotlights, air pump, blue and UV cold cathodes and I use an air extractor to cool my gfx card.
So - is the Zen in any danger of overloading my PSU and frying my system? Other USB devices I have - Saitek Eclipse KB, Logitech G5 mouse, Wacom Graphire3, Iomega external powered harddisk and Griffin Powermate.
is it a risk or am I being paranoid?

plec: The USB standard allows for a 500mA current (small) to be supplied to any device using a USB port. The Micro or any player that charges via USB will only use that amount to charge as well as sharing with the data connection. You can dedicate all that 500mA to charging the player if you use the latest ..0 or 2.20.05 firmware, then slide the power button to lock the player before connecting to the PC.
Don't panic, it's not going to overload your PC as the current drain is USB standard and small.

My Shuffle 2g will not charge through USB on laptop or through wall adapter

I cannot get iTunes or my pc to recognize my iPod, so it obviously won't charge. I tried charging through a wall outlet and that's not working either. I've tried turning it off for 5 seconds and then turning on just as i was directed in troubleshooting with no luck.
Can someone please help me? This is getting very frustrating and turning me off to Apple products.

Ran into this same issue last night with my daughter's shuffle. It worked fine yesterday afternoon, plugged it into the computer to charge, everything seemed normal (ie. orange to green charging light). Then she complained the iPod wouldn't play. Thought she locked it by accident, or had the volume turned down, but I messed with it and couldn't get it to work either. Tried to plug it back in, but now the PC won't reconize the device at all (not in Win Explorer or iTunes so reset utility won't help). Only thing different about my situation from what else I've read is that when I put the iPod in the dock, or charge from the wall, after 2 secs, the green light blinks once...then nothing. When I remove the iPod and turn it on, the orange light comes on but no sound, etc. I've tried docking to six different USB ports on two different computers and tried two different sync cables...no go.
If anyone has any suggestions other than trash the iPod, my daughter would appreciate the help. Thanks.

I have a Zen Micro 5Gb with MTP 2.20.05 Firmware.
How exactly do I charge it through USB? Do I have to lock it before I plug it in or not? Do I turn off the switch manually to save more power and what is the screen meant to look like while charging?

It has gone to standby mode. In standby mode it's simply quicker to restart the player, and it will resume where you were last playing.
Also I heard something that happens after 4hrs?
With the ..0 and 2.20.05 firmware the standby period is 4 hours. After 4 hours the player completely shuts down and will take longer to start up, and restart from the beginning of the last track.
With earlier firmware the standby period is 24 hours, but this was causing a noticeable drain on the battery.

IPad not charging through USB

Just got an iPad. When using USB cord to connect to computer, iPad charging indicator says "not charging". iTunes synchs fine. When I use wall outlet to charge all OK. Any ideas why not charging through ANY USB port on my laptop? Thank you,

Leave it plugged in after you complete the sync, let it go to sleep (lock) and the charging rate will increase and you'll get a charging indication.
The charger provided with your iPad can put out up to 2A of charging current. The best you're going to see from a USB port is somewhere around 500mA, that only from high-power ports and can be less depending on the computer. Seeing the "Not Charging" while syncing is perfectly normal.

N97 charging through usb cable in-car

using the nokia usb cable to charge the phone when connected to pc works fine. no problems at all. decided to use the same cable to charge whilst in the car, through a 3 way splitter which has a 5v usb port. nothing. no charging took place. I can get a charge for my DS using it's cable in the usb port, but not the nokia. What am I missing? is it that the nokia demands more juice to get a charge going, or what? I'm confused. Zen Xtra Charging through USB

Is there any way I can charge my Zen Xtra through the USB port. Like a Firmware that enables it or something? I'm desperare

Sorry to say, the player won't charge that way. I would get hold of Creative Support or go to the Shop section at the top of the page and see what is available under accessories for MP3 Players. I know they have an Xtra charger that you can use in an automobile. I have the regular wall type charger that came with my Xtra 30GB when I purchased it. A bit bulky, but works fine. Also check on eBay or Amazon.

IPod doesn't charge through USB 2.0 on PC

Hi all
I have a 30gb iPod video that came new yesterday. However, the battery is quickly running down and the unit won't charge properly. When I first connect the iPod to the USB port the charging flash appears at the battery icon and the iPod seems to continue charging while iTunes starts up. However, after 15 minutes or so, or as soon as iTunes has finished updating the iPod, which ever is sooner, the charging icon stops and the battery doesn't seem to take any more charge.
The iPod was plugged in for about 14 hours over night last night but the battery meter only showed half full this morning and the unit ran out of power after an hour or so of playback. Now whenever I plug it in, it charges for the couple of minutes it takes for iTunes to start and sync up and then stops again so the battery is still almost empty.
Is there anything I can do? Is the iPod battery faulty, or would buying the separate mains charger help?

Thanks, this is exactly the kind of thing I was suspecting and hoping for. However, I don't seem to have that option. I'm running windows 2000 professional and under My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware Device Manager I can select two different USB root hub items which have 'Power' tabs but on that tab there is only information about the amount of power devices on that hub are drawing, there are no options to be changed, nor on the other available tabs.
I'm using a USB port on the back of the computer as those are the only ones installed on the machine. I'm wary of buying the power adapter as, if this is a problem with the battery, I'll be laying out money for nothing.

Zen Micro - Listen to radio whilst charging through USB cab

'Lo all, as title, I'm at work just now, my battery is flat and I'd like to listen to the radio while my Zen charges, can I do this somehow?

Internet Explorer (this includes going through files), Windows Media Player and Zen Media Explorer will cause the player to be in docked mode. Make sure you're not in any of these and you should be able listen to music while charging.

Cant get Muvo to charge through

I just bought a Muvo2 FM but cant seem to get it to charge through USB.
This is what im doing. I make sure no music is playing, turn off the player, plug it into my comp and it gets detected, right click on the dri've and click on eject.
Then i get a messgae saying something like:
"MUVO^2 is currenlty in use. Before ejecting the disk, make sure all the files are closed and no multimedia files (such as music or video) are playing"
what am i doing wrong?

Close all applications that could be interacting with the player before you eject such as Windows Media Player, MediaSource, etc.. Also, make sure all file transfer activity between the player and computer have cease.

Won't charge with USB or iMove Boombox But Will With FireWire

I Have a 4th Gen 40GB iPod the other week it died from having an alarm on so i went to charge it on my pc but it was too dead to charge with my pc. because I don't know where my Firewire power adapter is i hooked it up to my car adapter on the way to work. thus it was charging, but once i got to work i hooked it up to my imove plugged into the ac outlet, it said it was fully charged (i.e. the battery indicator was full and not moving and a lightning bolt showing AC Power) any way an hour later it popped up a massage that says power low must shutdown. it dose the same thing if i'm syncing With the USB cord. i would us the firewire but my firewire port isn't working any more it's not the cable or the computer i tried it on other PC Firewire will charge, & USB won't and says it already is even though it's draining battery not pulling power from the pc. so now i'm trying to re sync my 35GB or so "over 6,000 songs" over USB before my battery dies again. (Yes i Have A Dock) Thanks Apple for a great product that only faults mainly around battery/power issues....

I recently bought a 3rd gen 20 gig ipod of ebay and it won't charge through USB or AC adapter. When I charge it through firewire, it loses its charge fast, so I am assuming the battery is dead.
