Charging using cigarette lighter?

I have a solar charging  unit that has a cigarette lighter jack  that puts out 6v, 12v, or 7.2v DC. Is it possible to charge my x201 using such a cigarette lighter configuration ? What would be the cheapest way to do this?

Hello,
Lenovo's new 90W Ultraslim AC/DC Combo Adapter comes with a 12VDC automobile cigarette lighter power adapter plug.
You might want to consider one of these—while it probably will not be the least expensive, it will probably weigh less and be more efficient than carrying a DC-to-AC inverter around, since it takes the place of your AC adapter, as well.

  • Problem Charging From Cigarette Lighter

I've had my iPod Nano for one year. I bought a Belkin TuneBase FM transmitter (which plugs into my cigarette lighter), which I sit my iPod into and the unit allows me to play my music through my radio while also charging my iPod at the same time. One day (after using the TuneBase for about one month), I pulled the unit from my cars cigarette lighter and noticed when I got in my house that the bottom of the connector to the TuneBase was missing. The metal "tongue" and the rest of the internals (fuse, spring, etc.) that were inside the arm that connected into the cigarette lighter were missing. I found the fuse, spring and the other couple parts either on my floor mat or sitting in the cigarette lighter socket.
Noticing the fuse from the unit had blown (the unit comes with a 1-amp fuse installed) after picking it up off the floor of my car, I went to a couple stores but no-one had 1-amp fuses. Would a 2-amp fuse be alright to use in the Belkin TuneBase? I've since been using a casette tape adapter which plugs into the iPod's headphone jack and allows me to play music through the casette player in my car. At the same time, my car's cigarrette lighter fuse blew. I replaced the cigarette lighter fuse and can now draw power from it, but for some reason no matter which 12V USB charger/adapter I purchase to plug into my cigarette lighter socket then use use my data/transfer cord to plug into my iPod to charge it, none of them charge it! I've returned a couple now. Funny thing is, the USB charger/adapters have an LED which lights up when I plug them in the cigarette socket - so I know power is being drawn. When I plug my iPod into the adapter (using the cord provided with the iPod Nano) the battery symbol on the top right of my iPods screen doesn't change to the lightning bolt as it had before when plugged in through my cigarette lighter. Before when I plugged my iPod into the cigarette lighter (while it was turned off), usually the screen went dark and showed a large battery being charged - this does not occur either anymore. It must be down to either the iPod's own socket, or the charging/data transfer cord that came with the iPod. The data/charging cord seems to work fine though -- when I attach my iPod using the cord to my computer, the iPod transfers data and charges just fine. What could be the problem? The only problem is trying to charge the iPod from my cigarette socket (which as I've said, does draw power according to the lights that turn on with anything I plug in!). What's going on here?

How about if you plug it into a PC's (use a USB port that is NOT connected to a hub) USB port (prefereably one connected to the PC's mainboard)? Does it show the charging symbol? If so, you can then assume it's the wall adapter/charger that's bad (if you used the same Lightning cable and it charges on the PC).
Since you just got it a few days ago, take it in to your nearest Apple Store and have them evaluate it and replace it if needed under warranty. If it was purchased at a retailer like Best Buy, take it back and exchange it for another. It sounds like either the Lightning cable or the charger itself is bad.

  • Can I use a car with an old fahsioned ('97) cigarette lighter to charge my iphone 4

Can I use an old fashioned ('97) car cigarette lighter port to charge my iphone 4?

Any standard power adapter designed for dashboard power/lighter ports should work.  To be certain, you may want to check the car's owner's manual to verify that it's a standard 12-volt plug.

  • Using Car Cigarette Lighter Adapter for Charging iPod

I have a car cigarette lighter adapter with a USB output.
    (1) Is it safe to use this for charging my iPod in the car - I don't know which gadget that I bought in the past came with this adapter.
    (2) Is there a way to find out whether it could be used or not?

  • Alpine adapter doesn't charge as fast as the cigarette lighter adapter

I've got an alpine CDE-102 deck, and this cable adapter.
    http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/kce-433iv/
it pipes in the audio and says it charges too, but it doesn't seam to me like it's charging as fast as if I use a regular cigarette lighter adapter.. I've also had it sometimes say this device wasn't made for iPhone yadda yadda. so when that happens, I'm guessing it's screwing up and putting out Voltage or amperage outside of what the iPhone wants? it says right on the product site that it is compatible with iPhone 2g and 3g... of course it doesn't say 3Gs.. which is what I have.
    http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/kce-433iv/
    Charge Up!
Keep your iPod charged while you're on the go. No need to worry about draining the battery, once you're plugged in with the KCE-433iV, your iPod is juiced up to play the whole drive long.
think I've got a bad deck? a bad connection?
anybody else had this same experience?

Yes. Car outlets are 12V nominal. Your charger will work fine.

  • Operating/charging MacBook from 12vdc cigarette lighter

If this has already been asked and answered, a keyword search did not reveal it. Is there an exsiting adapter/cable setup to allow a MacBook to be operated and charged from a 12vdc cigarette lighter in a car, boat, etc?

Apple sells one for use on airlines, but it is not compatible with automobile cigarette lighter outlets.
If one exists you'll need to search Google for it. You're unlikely to find anything on the Discussions because it would be a third-party product.

  • Does the IPAD mini come with, or have an optional, adaptor for charging from the cigarette lighter in the car?

Does the IPAD mini come with, or have an optional, cigarette lighter adaptor for charging?

Thanks much for the links, Johnathan.  I am going to be spending this summer kayaking in SE Alaska working with a conservation group out of Sitka, measuring data from remote wilderness areas.  I found a human powered 12v charger made by Freeplay Energy that utilizes a common cigarette lighter plug in.  With one of the adaptors you have identified for me I should be able to crank power into a mini in the middle of nowhere.
I had hoped I could download the free Sirius XM app and receive satellite radio in addition to other mini uses, but Sirius informs me they don't cover SE Alaska, but could still receive broadcasts whenever I'm in one of the Sitka harbors that provide wifi, i.e. internet radio.
If any other helpful takes on my situation occur to you be assured I'm all ears.
    Thanks again.

  • Can i charge ipod shuffle from a cigaret lighter ?

can i charge my ipod shuffle from a cigaret lighter?

Apple designed a modular transformer system to both simplify the plug and make travel between countries easy.
The transformer is the same in the US (110V) as it is in Australia (240V). The plugs are also identical to those included with each countries products.

  • Ipod won't charge using power block.

I bought an Ipod power block charger that connects into the wall and will charge the Ipod. when I hook everything up, nothing happens, the Ipod does not charge. I returned the power block thinking it doesn't won't and I exchanged it and got a new one, the same happens with this new one, nothing works. i tried different outlets. The wierd thing about this all is that I have a charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter in the car and the Ipod charges with that. I want to be able to use this power block though, what is going on? The ipod is a 40gb third generation Ipod.

Here's some info you may find useful:
iPods without clickwheels cannot charge over USB.
iPods with clickwheels will charge over both (with the exception of the iPod Video and possibly iPod Photo).

  • Cigarette Lighter Eraser?

    Alright...
You guys are the only ones that will be able to tell me if I've completely ruined my iPod.
Tonight, I had a video playing on my iPod in my truck while it was charging on the cigarette lighter (a connection piece that I purchased last week and has worked fine since). I turned off the truck and went into the grocery story... leaving the iPod plugged in, but obviously not charging (because the vehicle wasn't on). When I came back out to the truck a few minutes later, I turned the truck on and the entire screen went blank with a white screen and no way to turn it on, off, up, down, across, or whatever operation I might want to accomplish.
Basically... it went blank with a white screen that won't turn off.
Did the charge of the truck destroy my little iPod completely? Or is there a reset button somewhere that I can use?
I suppose I'm just asking what the heck happened.
Any thoughts, suggestions, or insights of help?
    Sincerely,
    Jeremy Lucas

  • Suggestions for cigarette lighter, long, flexible stalk mount for iphone?

I have had no luck finding a cigarette lighter charger, with a flexible stalk long enough to accommodate any rental car receptacle. I do not want one with an FM transmitter (I've tried too many to count, including the newest $100 Griffin Road Trip, which sounded horrible most of the time through the radio, and had buttons that didn't control the ipod as advertised). Trying to use my excellent Navigon GPS App, which works great, and now plays the ipod in the background, but I have to have a wired headset, and wired lighter cable, so the wires are too much. I will be happy to run a plug in to the line-in radio of my rental cars, but need a mount that can hold my phone comfortably in front of me, and charge at the same time. The Griffin came close, but no banana.
    Suggestions? Thanks.

  • Z3 Battery died, refusing to charge, no LED light???

Hey guys, i'm simply wondering if anyone else has had this issue (or to make others aware of this.)
Tonight was very stressful, so i'll try and make it easy to read through.
    - using my phone in the car, charging via my Sony Bluetooth Radio (built in to my car)
    - battery was decreasing faster than charging and the phone ran out of battery and turned off
    - tried to plug it into mains but no red light to verify charging
    - used another charger and still no red light to verify charging
    - tried to turn on. nothing. tried to reset. nothing.
    - checked chargers with friends phone and chargers were working fine
    - tried to charge the phone with a PC USB. PC verified something had been plugged in but said they couldn't verify and there was a problem.
    - left the phone for about an hour.
    - when returned to the phone the red out-of-battery light was blinking when I tried to press the power button.
    - went to my car and tried to charge it via the sony bluetooth radio
    - lights turned off and phone returned to unresponsive state
    - got home about 40 minutes later and red lights are on
    - charged it via AC adapter at home, left it for a bit, now charging normally.
For a while i thought my phone was completely busted and I was so angry as I've just had a replacement. can anyone else verify that this is a thing? before lollipop if the phone ran out of battery it would just start to charge.. I wouldn't have to wait an hour for it to become responsive again?! just making sure this isnt a fault.
    thanks!
