Charging With USB Cab

Hi everyone, I'm new to these forums and I have a query about the Jukebox Zen Xtra (30gb).
The player often runs out of battery when I'm out of the house, as I spend a lot of time at my brother's flat. And since the power adaptor is quite long and bulky to carry around in my backpack I want to start carrying around the USB cable instead, as the manual says the player can be charged by leaving the USB hooked up to an acti've computer. However a shop attendant told me it was better for the battery's lifespan if I only charged it one way instead of using different methods all the time.
Since I've always charged the player using the main power adaptor I'd like to get a few second opinions on this. Will I shorten the battery's running time if I start charging it with the USB cable from now on? For reference, I've had the player for about two months now and have been charging it 2-3 times a week (on average), using the main power adaptor every time. I appreciate any help anyone can give me.

I'd just buy the one from the Creative Store to be safe.
Alternately, you can purchase a second battery for the Xtra, and keep it charged for whenever your other one dies.

*EDIT*
As a second option, you can also purchase a Car charger and charge it from your car's cigarette lighter.Message Edited by LeecherX on 03-08-2005 06:4 PM

Battery not charging with usb port but works fine with wall plug.. So the prob is computer is not detecting the iphone5 . This problem started after upgrading to 6.1.3 version

Try to see what happens on another computer. If it works on another computer, the issue is not at the iPhone.

why does my ipod charge on my computer
not charge with usb hub in wall outlet?

Because the hub is not compatible with the iPod.
Just use your computer or purchase a wall charger.

  • Get "using too much power" message when charging with USB

I have a 4th gens iPod Touch that appears to have a number of issues:
    1. get "using too much power" message when charging with USB
    2. can't re-boot
    3. unable to access iCloud Backup, Ignore and Settings button inactive
    4. unable to unlock unit when using the Home button to turn the unit on

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Help. about the ipod nano charged with usb 1.1

i just got the ipod nano. now i am charging it. according to the mannul, it will take 3hr to charge it by usb 2.0.
considering i only have usb 1.1, so my question is how long it wil take to charge the nano. until i wait for 6hr and the screen still shows do not disconnect. i can transfer the music and image to the nano. thanks.

Sorry, I'm not really sure how long the charge will take with USB 1.1, but I'd guess it would be way longer that "twice as long".
The "do not disconnect" will show as the display until you eject the iPod thru iTunes.
Now here the tricky part since I don't have a 1.1 USB. If you eject it thru iTunes, I believe the screen will show if it is still charging or "charged". So when you know you need to charge it, plug in to the `puter, then eject and leave it connected, to see what happens.
I do recommend getting the USB power adapter. For USD30.00, it is really worth it. Well, for me at least. I charge regularly (4 times a week) and only plug into my computer to add more music (maybe once a month). Your usage may be different, but it is so easy to come home and just plug it into the dock (plugged into the wall).

  • 8100 Pearl will ONLY charge with USB from Computer

Is anyone else having this problem? The wall charger or car charger doesn't work at all. It only charges when I connect to my computer, and even then it takes all night since the Blackberry gives a message saying 'insufficient current.'
I've tried several different wall-chargers but I don't get anything. What gives?

I have the same problem.  I noticed a few days ago that my wall charger #1 was not working. So I used the car charger ok. Then I tried wall charger #2 and it didnt work either. I swapped the usb cable from the charger and that didnt work.  I then used that usb cable and plugged it in to the laptop and now the BB is being charged. It also charges with the car charger.
If anyone has a solution please help!

  • 3rd Gen iPod won't charge with USB connector - Is that normal?

I have the above iPod, and I noticed that when I tried to plug it in to charge it with a newer USB connector it will not charge. It will however, let me update my iTunes music. Is this normal for an older iPod?

I believe that is correct. That iPod was often called the iPod with 'dock connector', and as this chart shows, won't charge via USB.

  • Won't charge with USB or iMove Boombox But Will With FireWire

I Have a 4th Gen 40GB iPod the other week it died from having an alarm on so i went to charge it on my pc but it was too dead to charge with my pc. because I don't know where my Firewire power adapter is i hooked it up to my car adapter on the way to work. thus it was charging, but once i got to work i hooked it up to my imove plugged into the ac outlet, it said it was fully charged (i.e. the battery indicator was full and not moving and a lightning bolt showing AC Power) any way an hour later it popped up a massage that says power low must shutdown. it dose the same thing if i'm syncing With the USB cord. i would us the firewire but my firewire port isn't working any more it's not the cable or the computer i tried it on other PC Firewire will charge, & USB won't and says it already is even though it's draining battery not pulling power from the pc. so now i'm trying to re sync my 35GB or so "over 6,000 songs" over USB before my battery dies again. (Yes i Have A Dock) Thanks Apple for a great product that only faults mainly around battery/power issues....

good to know that 3G ipods don't charge through usb - but I still don't understand why an AC adapter wouldn't work. I can't even figure out the charging patern - it seems that when I plug it in through USB it drains the battery, but the battery life varies. One minute it will have full charge, then the next it will turn off and say it is empty, then the next it will have half life, all without plugging it in. Frustrating...

  • IPod Nano 1st Gen Wont Charge With USB Cable

I just purchased a brand new 4 gb white 1st gen iPod nano. From the moment I took it out of the packaging and tried to charge it with the provided USB cable I noticed it was not working. No response at all, nothing was getting into the iPod. I tried multiple USB cables with equal luck.
I have a Dension I.C.E Link Plus in my car, I figured I'd try it, sure enough the iPod Nano began charging and booted up. I finished charging it to a full charge in my car.
After a few days of use, I went to charge my iPod via USB cable and when I plug it in, it connects to the computer I can transfer songs perfectly but it constantly states that the iPod is "charged" displaying the plug battery icon not the flashing thunder bolt. So I figured it was charged, when I unplugged it from the USB cable the battery meter was clearly not charged.
So, I assumed it was my computer USB ports being messed up so I purchased a A/C Wall Charger Adapter. Once again it would only display "charged" so far the only thing that will charge my nano is my car.
With the A/C wall charger I have even tried multiple cables with no luck.
CAN SOMEONE HELP ME!?!?!? I thought it was suppose to charge with the provided USB cable? Thanks!

Yes you have a one year warranty from the date of purchase from Apple. Go to this link and on the bottom right hand side it will ask you to enter your serial number and will tell you if you are still under warranty. http://www.apple.com/support/
If you are you can take it to a Apple store, or request service online here http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
If it is out of warranty you can google a third party service provider and get it serviced out of warranty. There are two that I know of that provide free diagnostic service. You only pay for shipping and they will tell you what is wrong and what it will cost to fix. They are ifixipodsfast.com and ipodmods.com but there are others also (I just have no experience with them) Good luck and as was stated it should charge from your usb. and just for grins, look at the docking connector on your ipod and see if there is any obstruction that is obvious.

  • Charging with USB?

Before you blast me with 'No!'s, let me explain further.
Long story short, my Powerbook won't charge with AC adapter, so I bought an external battery charger and although it works, it is very annoying.
I bought the DLO power bug (http://www.dlo.com/products/PowerBugshuffleProd.tpl) to charge my iPod, and recently wondered if I had the Power Bug plugged into an outlet, then had a USB plugged into that and my laptop, would it charge?
I did research this already but found no such case as mine, so I decided I would try it here. Be nice

Hi, amandiaaa. No — but that's a nice no.
Your Powerbook's USB ports simply aren't designed to receive significant power from outside, and there's no circuitry linked to them that has the ability to direct such power to the battery or control battery charging. I don't know for certain, but I suspect that connecting the Power Bug as you propose might damage your Powerbook.

  • My ipod won't charge with USB or AC adapter - only Firewire

I recently bought a 3rd gen 20 gig ipod of ebay and it won't charge through USB or AC adapter. When I charge it through firewire, it loses its charge fast, so I am assuming the battery is dead. This still doesn't explain why it won't charge through USB or AC. Does anyone know why this might be? Please help!

  • I can't sync with FireWire port and I can't charge with USB port!!

Hi. I've a old model of iPod (M9244Y). After the last update, my iPod does sync with the FireWire port.
I tried with another PCs and Mac but it does work. Finaly I buyed an USB cable and this one syncs but not charge.
I've restored to early versions of iPod Updaters but it does not work again. Can I do somethig to fix it?
Why I can't sync with the FireWire port?
Please help me, I can't live without iPod, I can't live without music!!!

Do you have other Firewire devices? Do they work? Could be the FW ports are not working right.
First thing to do is reset the FW chip set on the mother board. Unfortunately, when you power down the computer there is always a bit of power still applied to the motherboard to keep things alive and this usually includes the ports to do stuff like detect when a device wants to wake up the computer. The downside of this is when a bus/port chipset goes into a weird state, power cycling the computer won't work.
So first thing to try is resetting the chipset and to do this you have to power down the computer and completely unplug the computer from the wall power (unplug the power cord to your Mac). Also unplug everything from the Mac's ports (USB, FW, Ethernet, etc.) to make sure no parasitic power is still there to keep the chip alive. Now let it sit for ten minutes (give those big power caps in there time to discharge). Now plug it back in, start up the Mac and see if your FW ports and the drive work any better.

  • IPod Nano won't charge with USB 2.0

I've had an iPod Nano for a few weeks now. When I first got it, I was able to charge it up over USB 2.0 with no problem. Now, the computer recognizes the iPod, and the iPod says it's charging, but it doesn't actually charge.
I can still charge it using the firewire power adaptor from my 20gig iPod. It seems like this only started happening after I started charging via the firewire adapter. Could the firewire adapter be causing problems?

I had to install a USB 2.0 PCI card in my G4 tower to use the nano. Shouldn't this provide enough power? I also tried hooking it up to a USB 2.0 hub with an external power supply, so that should provide enough power too, shouldn't it?
