Charging Zen Stone 1GB Player via Laptop USB P

Greetings to the forum.
I tried to charge my new Zen Stone GB player via my laptop's USB port. Even though the charge indicator went solid, I got only about three minutes out of the player. I then repeated the process, and the player charged perfectly. I may have used a different port the secont time around. Are there differences between laptop USB ports?
In both charge attempts, I made sure "Standby" and "Hibernate" were disabled, and I did not use a USB hub.
Thanks for all help.
Craig

Using a different port may have been the solution. Laptop USB ports can be a little flakey when it comes to standards compliance. The USB ports on the back of the laptops are generally compliant to USB standards.

• Zen Stone 1GB: side button stopped working

Hi,
I have a Zen Stone GB player (simple model - wthout built-in speaker or display). It has been working perfectly for about 3 or 4 years but today the sliding side button ("skip folder-repeat-shuffle") stopped working. It just slides around with no resistance and doesn't change the play mode now, so the player is always shuffling songs. I would like to know if it is possible to fix the button or at least turn off the shuffle mode. I had an idea to open it and check the button from the inside but I can't see if there is any way to do that.

.Re: Zen Stone GB: side button stopped workingM You can't break it open without damaging the outside case. From ?(taken from review) I suspect that the black switch thing broke off, and that you can't repair that.. (at least I can't)?
I think you could remove the outside slide-button and operate the sliding mechanism with a paperclip or something pointy. But it wouldn't look too good and it's probably a lot more sensiti've to moisture with a hole in the casing..
As for getting rid of shuffle mode without opening the player, I guess resetting it will set the playmode back to default.

• Zen Stone with Macb

I have just bought 2 Zen stones for me and my partner.
I mainly use a Macbook with the latest Mac osx. I cannot seem to find any help to using these on my mac.
Any ideas, I am normally an Ipod girl.
I do have a laptop with XP installed. Most of my music I have ripped to MP3 format, will I be able to drag these to my stone.
Cheers

My Zen Stone does work with my Mini Mac (OS X 0.4.7) but there's a snag. If you connect the Stone via USB when the Mac is on then it doesn't appear as a mass storage device on the desktop. The Stone can be seen by in the system profiler utility, but it's not correctly functioning. To enable you to use the Stone on a Mac you have to reboot the Mac with the Stone already connected via its USB cable. If you unmount the Stone then you have to reboot again.
When you have done the reboot so that the Stone appears as a volume on the Mac then it works very well. It even appears on iTunes (Mac version) as a Nomad MuVo. This is without using any special software/drivers to make this happen. So not only is the ZEN Stone a mass storage device that can be filled by just drag-n-drop, you can choose to use iTunes if you wish. There's no 'random fill' facility in iTunes (as you get with a shuffle), but random filling can be done by using the iTunes 'party shuffle' feature - just create a new party shuffle list then drag it to the Nomad MuVo icon. Easy.
Let's hope the initial connection issue will be fixed soon with a firmware update.

My son has a new Zen Stone Plus and he uses Windows 2000.
Are there any known workarounds/hacks etc other than buying WIN XP upgrade pro for a couple of hundred dollars?
If you decide to drag and drop music over to it, how do you get software over there to manage it and what do you use ?
Thanks in advance.

• My creative zen stone (with speakers) is being very strange! Please he

Hi!
I got a pink creative stone with speakers (and no screen) about a month ago.
This morning I tried to turn it on, and the green light came on, but there was no sound. When I plugged it into my computer, it wasn't recognised, and it didn't come up on my computer, therefore, I can't use the recovery tool
. No amount of pushing at the on and play button, or resetting it with a paperclip works.
I'd really, really like some help!!! Thankyou very much!!!!
Katherine

here's my suggestion, if you have not formatted your player before, format it using fat32. What happens is, it immediately plays the songs 3 to four seconds after you press the play button long enough.
with the default settings of zen stone, the player starts playing songs after ten or so seconds that might be the reason you had time to fiddle with the toggles before the songs play when in fact it takes that long because it wasn't formatted to fat32.

• Zen Stone Plus 4GB - Problems with Sp

Hi, I have a new Zen Stone Plus Player.
According to the Creative Audio CD Ripper, I have . GB of free space left, and yet it tells me there is no space when I try to rip a CD.
Let me stress, that I have not put my music files etc. in the root directory, they are all in a sub directory called Music.
Within that subfolder, there are 27 further sub-folders, containing 57 mp3 files between them. Thus, the FAQ is of no help to me.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,
If you have windows XP or Vista go to Windows explorer. The stone plus should show up as removable dri've. Right click on it and click properties, it will show how much space there is left.
If there's still space left, you can always use Windows Media Player (WMP)?to rip your CDs into mp3s and put them on your player afterwards.
In WMP go to tools - options - rip music and change your settings to mp3. I think by default it will save your music in the My Documents/My music folder. So that's where you can find it back when it's done.
If you can't find the tools- options menu just click on rip in WMP and hope for the best. If all the setting are still on default it should work.
After it's done you can either drag and drop in windows explorer or if the creative software isn't giving you any further troubles you can use that to put the music on your player. Make sure to close WMP after?you've done ripping?or it will interfere with the creative software.
Good luck,
jolie

• Creative Zen Stone Play is

I bought the Gig zen stone a few days ago to use in the gym. I seem to have an issue which might not be an issue but I haven't been able to figure out what I am doing wrong.
After I uploaded a few songs, and hit the play button it does not seem to play the songs, only after I fiddle around with the toggle buttons between switching folders and random play for a while only it seems to start playing, and it is very annoying.
I would like to what I am doing wrong, shouldn't the player just start to play the songs when I hit the play button.
Please advise as to what I should do to get the player to start playing instantly.
Thanks

• Zen Micro - charging via 220V - USB char

Hello!
I'm trying to charge my Zen Micro (5Gb) via 220V-usb charger (mini usb jack), but it seems that player is not charging. When I use computer usb port it charges normally.
Is it a feature, and zen can not be charged via 220v-usb device or it is a bug?
nb: charger has 5v - I'v tested it by voltmeter.
Thank you all for help

For v2 (MTP/PlaysForSure) firmware, you're looking for version 2.20.05.
Third-party chargers only work with the Micro in "locked charging" mode, which is only available in the ..0 and 2.20.05 firmwares (.0.02 too, but it has another power-related bug and should be upgraded anyway), or with certain workarounds used with earlier firmwares such as enabling a small removable-disk partition, which worked for me with 2..02 firmware. (I didn't have to actually enable removable-disk mode, but IIRC others did.)
Otherwise, the firmware "reads" the connection thru the USB port and refuses to charge if it isn't an officially-supported connection--that is, either a PC with the proper drivers for your firmware, or an official Creative charger. "Locked charging" turns that off; it's officially for PCs without drivers installed, but it works with third-party chargers as well.

• Creative Zen Touch. At what point does it charge via the USB cab

Hello,
I've had a Creative Zen Juke box for a couple of weeks now. I need to give it a charge but I don't have my power cable to hand. I do however have my USB sync cable.
So apparently I can charge the device from the USB port.
So I've plugged it in and Then it syncs. But while the player is "on" it doesn't charge. So I shut it down but it won't let me as the screen shows as docked.
So I unplug the USB cable to release the dock and plug it back in and it docks so it won't charge.
I'm going round in circles at the moment.
How can I charge my player through the usb cable? Without it docking?
Thanks
Chris

Thanks for the quick reply.
I've tried locking it and that doesn't do any good. Hmmmm.
Basically If I turn off the player and then plug in the USB cable connected to the PC, the player turns itself on and starts docking at which point I cannot turn it off.
Its swings and round abouts. I can't seem to keep the thing turned off when its connected. I managed to keep it off for about 5 minutes earlier and the icon appeared showing it was charging. But all on its own it started up and started to dock, without me doing anything.
I have since reset the player and will have stern words for it if this bad behaviour continues.
Cheers
Chris

• Creative Zen Stone Plus Returns First Track On Player After Recharge

? Hi Everybody... I didn't see this topic posted on another thread, but I wasn't going to read thousands of posts to get this answer either. My problem is I own two players, one is a Creative Zen Stone and the other is the Zen Stone Plus. My Zen Stone does not return to the first track on the player when I recharge it (it remains on the same track), but the Zen Stone Plus does. This normally wouldn't be a big deal, but my mother-in-law listens to audiobooks. Sometimes those books don't have seperate tracks which means there is a single track that runs for like 6 - 8 hours. Is there a way to allow the player to pick up where it left off? It is a real pain to have to fast forward through most of an audiobook, especially when my player (the less expensi've player) continues where it left off. BTW.... Letting her have my player is not an option since hers has a display screen and mine doesn't.

So, reading the forum, it seems we have seroiusly problems with charging.... I'll try all I've read: disabling "energy conservation mode" on USB root, using an USB powered hub as Battery Charger, updating the Firmware, formatting / resetting the player and then using cml and the led to charge it to the full. I hope it solves, at least for me.... ?

• Zen Stone not charging + w

After using my zen for about 2 days, i noticed the % of charge according to the player is stuck at 67%. when i unplug my player, i noticed the player seem a little warm to the touch
I reinstalled media lite and used 3 different usb cables on 3 different ports on my computer, still have the same problem
Edit: I just installed an old USB PCI card i had laying around, after installing that. My stone seems to be charging now. Can anyone confirm that charging requires usb and not usb2?Message Edited by shof55 on 06-27-200705:03 PM

Hi
I have the same problem with my ZEN Nano Plus - do you think this download from IOMEGA will work for me too? - I don not think I have understood what Iomega has to do with Creative devices?
Edit: Well - I tried the patch out - didn't work though - *sigh*
It used to work ok, but the last time I wanted to connect and add some tracks to the player I couldn't connect and I finally had to try to install the firmware, which to my surprice did the trick, however now I wanted to add some more tracks and I still can't connect... I really recent the idea of having to reinstall the firmware each time I want to add or remove tracks - also the whole thing is formatted each time - really annoying.
Bonus info: when cable is connected to the player, my optical mouse won't work - perhaps a conflicte there? I have tried all the USB ports with the same result...
If anybody have an idea - it is more than welcome!!Message Edited by lenasl on 06-07-200708:23 PM
