Charting data

Does anyone have any views on the best way to build a multi time series chart for JFX. I would like a chart that can hold 4hr, 1day, 1week, 1month time series.

I have always wondered about that
You may wonder, the "rule" exists.

+*Apple Human Interface Guidelines:*+
+Apply the 80 Percent Solution+
+During the design process, if you discover problems with your product design, you might consider applying the 80 percent solution—that is, designing your software to meet the needs of at least 80 percent of your users. This type of design typically favors simpler, more elegant approaches to problems.+
+If you try to design for the 20 percent of your target audience who are power users, your design may not be usable by the other 80 percent of users. Even though that smaller group of power users is likely to have good ideas for features, the majority of your user base may not think in the same way. Involving a broad range of users in your design process can help you find the 80 percent solution.+

  • Problem with displaying chart data

    Hello everybody,
    I have problem with displaying chart data correctly. I'm using a cartesian chart with DateTimeAxis. The stockdata I'm using is for half a year and
    with ticks for every day. The problem is, that Flex displays the data of february in march together with the data of march. I have added a picture
    to show the result. The second column of the grid is for february and the third for march.
    Could anybody help me with this problem. Thanks in advance.
    Thomas

    Hi Chris,
    thanks for your reply. Here you get the source code:
    The following method creates the LineChart:
            public function init():void
                model.upperChart = this;
                model.upperChartStyle.setChartViewStyle(this);
                this.hAxis = new MyDateTimeAxis();
                model.upperChartData.configureHAxis(this.hAxis);
                this.vAxis = new LinearAxis();
                model.upperChartData.configureVAxis(this.vAxis);
                this.vAxisTitle = new Label();
                this.vAxisTitle.text = model.upperChartData.getVAxisTitle();
                model.upperChartStyle.setVAxisTitleLabelStyle(this.vAxisTitle);
                this.vAxisTitle.x = 10
                this.vAxisTitle.y = 0;
                this.addChild(this.vAxisTitle);
                this.myChart = new CartesianChart();
                //remove default datatip
                this.myChart.showDataTips = false;
                this.myChart.x = 10;
                this.myChart.y = 0;
                this.myChart.width = 768;
                this.myChart.height = 196;
                model.upperChartStyle.setChartStyle(this.myChart);
                this.addChild(this.myChart);
                //Remove line shadow
                this.myChart.seriesFilters = null;
                this.myChart.horizontalAxis = this.hAxis;
                this.myChart.verticalAxis = this.vAxis;
                this.hAxisRenderer = new AxisRenderer();
                model.upperChartData.configureHAxisRenderer(this.hAxisRenderer);
                this.hAxisRenderer.axis = this.hAxis;
                model.upperChartStyle.setHAxisRendererStyle(this.hAxisRenderer);
                this.myChart.horizontalAxisRenderers.push(this.hAxisRenderer);
                this.vAxisRenderer = new AxisRenderer();
                model.upperChartData.configureVAxisRenderer(this.vAxisRenderer);
                this.vAxisRenderer.axis = this.vAxis;
                model.upperChartStyle.setVAxisRendererStyle(this.vAxisRenderer);
                this.myChart.verticalAxisRenderers.push(this.vAxisRenderer);
                model.upperChartStyle.setVAxisDataLabelStyle(this.vAxisMinLabel);
                this.addChild(this.vAxisMinLabel);
                model.upperChartStyle.setSeriesStyle(model.upperChartData.series, model.upperChartData.shares);
                this.myChart.dataProvider = model.upperChartData.dataProvider;
                this.myChart.series = model.upperChartData.series;
    The data for dataprovider and series you can see in attached file dataprovider.xml.
    xfield is equivalent to timestamp
    yfield is equivalent to absolute
    I think the problem could be the configuration of the datetimeaxis. The following method shows the parameter for the datetimeaxis:
            public function configureHAxis(axis:MyDateTimeAxis):void
                axis.parseFunction = UtilityClass.parseYYYYMMDDHHNNSSString2Date;
                axis.dataUnits = "days";
                axis.dataInterval = 1;
                axis.title = "";
                axis.minimum = new Date(UtilityClass.parseYYYYMMDDHHNNSSString2Date("2009-01-07 00:00:00").time);
                axis.maximum = new Date(UtilityClass.parseYYYYMMDDHHNNSSString2Date("2009-07-06 00:00:00").time);
    And finally you get the function, that I'm using for string to date conversion:
            public static function parseYYYYMMDDHHNNSSString2Date(input:String):Date
                var result:Date = new Date();
                var year:Number = Number(input.substring(0,4));
                var month:Number = Number(input.substring(5,7));
                var date:Number = Number(input.substring(8,10));
                var hours:Number = Number(input.substring(11,13));
                var minutes:Number = Number(input.substring(14,16));
                var seconds:Number = Number(input.substring(17,19));
                result.setUTCFullYear(year);
                result.setUTCMonth(month-1);
                result.setUTCDate(date);
                result.setUTCHours(hours);
                result.setUTCMinutes(minutes);
                result.setUTCSeconds(seconds);
                return result;
    I hope that will help to locate the reason for the wrong chart visualization.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Flash chart - Error - No chart data available

    Hi
    I have a Flash chart that shows the message "Error - No chart data available" (not the no data found message).
    If I run its query in sql*plus (using the same parameters) I get 4 rows (with url, label and value columns). I am clueless about how to start investigating this as the chart does not show any other information... Any advice?
    What does that message mean? Obviously is something different from no data found?
    Thanks
    Luis

    Hi Marco
    Thanks for the reply. I did what you said and found out the problem:
    chart Flash Chart error: ORA-20001: get_data error: ORA-20001: Fetch error: ORA-01843: not a valid monthThis was caused because I used the following construction:
    where date_from = :p5_date_fromIf this was a report, this would run fine as I set the date format mask using a application level process. However, as Flash charts use separate database connections, they ignore that setting (btw I posted a message about this problem).
    I fixed it hardcoding a format mask in my SQL. Not nice but it works!
    Thanks
    Luis

  • How to convert from line chart data to CSV format

    Hi ,
    I am using Flex 3 and AS.
    I am getting data from MS SQL and display the data as line
    chart this is ok.
    But i want to convert this line chart data to CSV or .xsl
    format.I find one example in fourms the from data grid to CSV
    For this URL is
    http://www.abdulqabiz.com/blog/archives/flash_and_actionscript/datagriddataexporter.php
    But i want Line chart to CSV.Please help me.

    Line chart is a just a visual representation of some data
    that's sitting in your database. Isn't it? You load this in Flex,
    probably using HTTPService class, and pass it to some chart object.
    Now when use says that she needs it in CSV format, you're
    gonna have to send another request to the server to produce the
    same data, convert into CSV or XLS format and let user download it.
    Of course, if use doesn't want to download, you don't have to
    go to the server, at least for CSV format. You can convert the same
    data that used plot the chart to convert to CSV.
    Am I missing something here?

  • Chart date out of order

    Post Author: [email protected]
    CA Forum: Charts and Graphs
    I have a chart that is grouped on the date by month.  The data in the main crosstab report is in the correct order but the dates are grouped incorrectly in the graph.  The graph is listing in this order:
    1/2007, 10/2007,11/2007, 2/2007,3/2007....
    It's picking up the first number as the sort order instead of the date.  I've checked by date format and everything is correct in my report.  What can I change to get the chart date order correct?

    Post Author: qcheng
    CA Forum: Charts and Graphs
    Right click the chart > select "Chart Expert" > "Data" Tab > Select the "On Change Of" field > Click "Order" button > select "in original order". Your group will be in right order now.

  • Crystal Reports 2008 Pie Chart Data Labels

    Hi,
    I've been trying to figure out why I cannot get the option to put pie chart data labels in the center of each slice.  There's an option to place them there, but everytime I select it, the graph reverts to putting the data labels on the outside with leader lines.  I was able to do it once, for one pie chart, but have not been able to get it to work for any others.  I've even tried creating a pie with only two slices in case there's a slice size limit below which the data is placed outside.  There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason why it worked once and now won't work again.
    Thanks,
    -Jim
    Edited by: jwmckay on Apr 23, 2010 7:19 PM

    Hi Jim,
    The issue could be faced because of the 'Auto-arrange' layout option enabled from Chart Expert within the report.
    This option allows Crystal Reports to reset the chart layout to its original size and position
    To uncheck the 'Auto-arrange option':
    - First Go to Chart Expert-
    - Click on the Options Tab
    - Uncheck Auto - Arrange
    - Click OK
    I hope this helps,
    Selenia

  • Chart Data Editor

    Has anyone seen the Chart Data Editor in Pages and if so can you tell me how to find it?
    Am having trouble editing the labels of the X-axis of a chart and the Pages manual seems to have a sensible solution but it requires using the Chart Data Editor. For the life of me I can't find in the programme.

    You need the Pages Discussion Board. this is the Numbers Discussion board.

  • Waterfall chart data labels - not rendering in Flash

    I have a problem with the waterfall charts.  When I turn on the data labels, the charts fail to render in Flash - I get a axis and some garbled legend icons.  If I turn off the waterfall chart data labels, the problem goes away.  Clearly, there is some bug in the label coding.

    Make sure you have the "Refresh before components are loaded" option checked on your QaaWS connection for the monthly data in the connection manager of Xcelsius.
    To do this go to the connection manager in Xcelsius.  Go to the connection you want to edit.  Click the "Usage" tab.  Then check the first check box that reads "Refresh Before Components Are Loaded".
    This will run that query as soon as the dashboard is loaded.  I think what may be happening to you now is that you have set a trigger cell of some kind that says, "When cell X becomes "XYZ" run the monthly data query.  But when the dashboard is first loaded cell X does not equal "XYZ" therefore the query does not run initially.  But then when you click the weekly tab and the back to the monthly tab you are setting cell X to "XYZ", therefore the query runs at that point.
    Hope this helps,
    Jeff

  • How to log waveform chart data in any file at specific interval

     i am using labview 7.0. i want to save waveform chart data in the file at specific interval given by user. Please give me solution for that.

    Open the example finder (Help>>Find Examples) and look at the Write Datalog File example. You can also convert your data to text to save a simple text file. Also, the tutorials in the following links probably cover something similar.
    To learn more about LabVIEW, I suggest you try searching this site and google for LabVIEW tutorials. Here, here, here, here and here are a few you can start with and here are some tutorial videos. You can also contact your local NI office and join one of their courses.
    In addition, I suggest you read the LabVIEW style guide and the LabVIEW user manual (Help>>Search the LabVIEW Bookshelf).

  • Editing colors of Keynote chart data series

    I am attempting to edit a Keynote chart (Scatter plot) with 3 data series.  I selected the first Chart option which plots the data by color (Blue, red, white).  I do not see an option to adjust or change the default colors.  In the "Edit Chart Data" dialog, the series colors appear at the column head but there is no apparent way to change the default color.  The white data series wouldn't be so bad except that the background of the chart is also white.

    A pie chart shows the proportions that make up the total, therefore what your chart actually shows is a $150 transaction with $50 profit.
    The definition of profit is:   total price less expenses, then the pie chart should show:
    Profit in a $100 sale

  • Discoverer Bar Chart Data Points

    Hi everyone,
    I am creating a Bar Chart in Discoverer with the data points to be displayed at the top. Does anyone know how to make the datapoints not display decimal places. I've tried to change the number format in the table and through administrator as well. The table does not display decimal places but the Bar Chart Data Points continue to do so. Any suggestions or thoughts to try would be welcomed. Thanks!

    If you edit the chart and choose X-Axis Scale I believe you can set the number of decimal place there. Should be able to set it to 0.

  • How to create a subVI to Clear all charts data on a main VI

    Hi all,
    As I am writing a subVI to clear all the "charts" data on a main VI.
    The number of Charts is unknown, beasue this subVI need to run at
    difference main VIs. Therefore, I can only input a ref. of main VI into
    the subVI and find out all the control ref.,then check the classes of
    the control. If it is a chart, I need to use "To More Specific Class" to
    to select waveform chart. However, if the property node is not create
    from the chart directly, the "histroy data" will be missing.
    No matter my concept to build this subVI should be right, I donot succeed.
    Are there any other methods to do that?
    regards,
    Ryan

    Did you file a bug report with NI, Coq?
    No i did not. I got it working with some diagram cluttering, and forgot all about it. As my motto is "If the damn thing works, ship it"
    Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted

  • Binding Text input value to chart data provider

    Hello, I am trying to develop a flex mobile application that generates the Chart.
    Is there any way to set the text input value as a chart data provider?????
    and if so, can you give me example?????

    Perhaps a stupid question but when you change your
    arraycollection do you do arraycollectioname.refresh()? If not,
    that should be your problem, without the refresh method your visual
    object will not update but your arraycollection will.

  • Stackedbarchart does not considering CSS if chart data is reset.

    I am setting the CSS for Stackedbarchart . initially chart perfectly showing CSS colors for bars . but if i refresh the data set (i am creating new data set which has changes in y values only and  setting it to chart), chart is not considering the css colors, its showing some random colors for each series.
    steps to reproduce .
    use any sample /Ensamble
    set a style for chart bar / series with CSS .
    recreate  the chart data  and reset the chart data using chart.setData()
    chart is assigning random colors.

    Pay $200 for something i don't use often is ridiculous. Perhaps I am better off borrowing a PC and converting it for those SSD storage.
