Chat type keyboard shortcut

When you select a person to chat with from the menu bar dropdown, and that person has multiple chat options (text/voice/video), is there a keyboard shortcut to select the chat type?
I've tried all types of keyboard combos and can't seem to find one.

Hello again, van6ogh
But how do you get past that window without having to click on a chat type with your mouse.
Use the tab key to toggle to the chat type you desire. Then press the space bar to execute the selected type. At least it works that way on my iChat AV 3.
I notice that you have changed your posted System Info between your initial and msg # 2.1.1 posts. Assuming the latest info is correct, if it does not work that way for iChat AV 2.1 on your Panther 10.3.8 Mac, consider updating to Mac X 10.3.9. As explained in How I Update My Mac OS X, I recommend using the Combo Updater.

  • CS4 Curves Automatic Keyboard Shortcut (a) Not Working

On CS3 Photoshop I am able to bring up the Curves function (Ctrl+m) and then type Keyboard Shortcuts (a) to get the Auto Curves function.
On CS4 typing (a) does nothing - I have to click on the Auto button.
Is there a way to fix this?

    What model Canon?

  • Keyboard Shortcuts only in one file type?

I have assigned different keyboard shortcuts and they work fine in .cfm files, however, if I try to use them in any other file type (.html, .xml. etc.) they do not work? Any ideas?

That's odd.  What keyboard shortcut did you define?  What OS?  What version of DW?

  • How to disable keyboard shortcut for Type-And-Transfer

    Hi,
I'm trying to create a macro in Excel that I want to use the ctrl+shft+h keyboard shortcut. However, Lenovo's Type-and-Transfer tool has hijacked that shortcut so everytime I try to use the shortcut within Excel it launches the Type-and-Transfer tool. I've looked everywhere and cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to disable this keyboard shortcut from launching the Type-and-Transfer tool. Anybody have any idea?
    Thanks in advance,
    jd

    Hi,
here is what I would check in:
    Registry:
    - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IBM
    - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\LENOVO
    - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM
    - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lenovo
<sorry as I don't havea system with this shortcut type I cannot find the exact same key combination>
My second thought is going more in the direction of an application, that is called Keyboard Customizer
Try this one, if that will fit your request.
Let me know any update, that you can give on this situation.
    Cheers

  • Illustrator CC Type "Change Case" keyboard shortcut not working

In Illustrator CS6 I established a keyboard shortcut of Alt+Shift+Ctrl+= to the command Type-->Change Case-->UPPERCASE (and Alt+Shift+Ctrl+- to Type-->Change Case-->Title Case). In Illustrator CC, these two keyboard shortcuts are not working. They are displaying in the Type menu correctly, and the menu commands themselves work correctly, but the shortcuts do not work. Any ideas?

Well, as I stated, the = worked fine in CS6 on Windows. I just tried to changing it to Alt+Shift+Ctrl+U and that one does work correctly. I would prefer that Adobe minimizes functionality regressions in new releases, even if there are conceivably workarounds that I could employ.
Would somebody be willing to try Alt+Shift+Ctrl+= on a PC and see if they can get it to work on their system?

  • Keyboard shortcuts initiate when I'm trying to type text. (CS4)

I will try to type text in certain places (such as to name a layer or group in the layers panel or type in a font name in the character panel) and instead of displaying characters, Photoshop will initiate it's keyboard shortcuts. For example, if I try to name a layer "bat", it will leave the layer name blank and it will highlight the brush tool, the selector tool, and then the type tool.
I can type text on my document with the text tool and I can also type the document name in "Save" and "New".
I'm not sure if I've accidently hit something on my keyboard that makes this happen, but I've never had this problem before.
I ran the latest updates. I'm using CS4 on OSX 10.6.8.
    Any ideas?

    @PECourtejoie
I can highlight the text field, for example, I can double-click a layer name and it will change into a field with a cursor and I can even highlight the current name. However, I did just discover that sometimes I can type a letter once and the following keystrokes will act like a shortcut (whether the same letter or a different one). I then have to place the cursor in another part of the word to make this happen again, but again, it only happens sometimes and for now it seems random.
It will also occasionally delete nearby layers (maybe there's a shortcut that does that, but I'm not sure which keystroke I hit when that happens).
My mouse didn't accidently click elsewhere, it's been consistent for an entire day now.
I looked at my preferences and didn't see anything that would reset them (nor anything that would apply to this). Please let me know how and I will try it.

  • Keyboard shortcut from type tool to move tool

What is the keyboard shortcut again from the type tool to the move tool?

If you hold the mouse over the tool in the tool palette Photoshop will pop up the answer for you.
If you use menu Edit>Keyboard Shortcuts the use the summirize button Photoshop will save your shortcuts for in a HTML page. You can search that page

  • Type tool keyboard shortcut problem

In InDesign CC, I am using the T key on my keyboard to switch to the Type Tool. Occasionally (not always) it will switch back to the previous tool, meaning if I had the selection tool selected before, and I use T to switch to the Type Tool, it switches back to the selection tool a moment later. It's infuriating!
    Things I've noticed:
I can have more than one document open, and the issue may arise in only one/some of the documents - not all
Selecting the Type Tool from the tools window bypasses the issue (therefore, seems to be only the keyboard shortcut)
Have not seen this error reproduced for ANY other tool.
Double-clicking a text box still works to automatically edit the text
Closing the program and reopening usually fixes it, but occasionally doesn't
I'm trying to figure out if anybody else has noticed this issue. I can't seem to find anything addressing this problem. Is there a solution??
    InDesign CC 2014.1  /  10.1.0.70 x64 Build  /  Windows 7 Enterprise

I've been having the same problem, and it's really frustrating. I have replaced my preferences twice with no luck. Do you know of any other possible fixes? I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do. Thanks in advance!

  • Problem with iPhone and iPad keyboard shortcuts

When I try to access the keyboard shortcuts in either my iPhone 6+, iPad 3 or iPad Air, the sequence Settings>General>Keyboard>Shortcuts causes the devices to go back to the Home Screen.  I spent several hours in a chat with Apple Support, had to go through an iTunes back up on the iPhone and restored it to "new phone" and it fixed the problem on the iPhone, but not on the iPads.  Chatted again today with Support, tried hard reset (press both buttons till Apple logo appears) on the iPad 3 and I could access the shortcuts.  Did the same on the iPad Air with no luck.
Now, one hour after second Support chat,  none of the devices can access the shortcuts.  There must be a problem with iCloud for this to be happening on all 3 devices.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

Same problem also and if I restore both the iPhone and iPad as new I
lose a lot of progress in my games.

  • Secret dragging tricks and keyboard shortcuts - are these published anywhere?

I have searched for some and stumbled upon others. But I have not seen any of these published or posted anywhere. If so, can you tell me? Either way, you may find some useful ones here. Enjoy! (I think most of these work in Lion. Any keyboard shortcuts you know for Time Machine would be most welcome.)
    *** THE DOCK ***
Press ^F3 to move to the dock. Use the arrow keys to select an icon. You can also use autocomplete (type the first few letters of the icon's name). Then press Opt-arrow_key to move the *icon* among the other icons on the Dock. Thus you can change the order of the icons on the Dock using only the keyboard.
    *** DRAGGING TRICKS ***
    o SAVE-AS SHEET TRICK
Open an app's Save As sheet. Drag a folder or its proxy icon to anywhere in the Save As sheet except the sidebar and that updates the directory (folder) field with that folder. Drag a file or its proxy icon to the Save As sheet (anywhere except the sidebar) and that updates both the directory (folder) and file fields accordingly.
Why do I do this? I find it easier to use the actual Finder, or I may already have a Finder window in the right directory.
You can also click on a directory or file in the Save As sheet to populate the directory or file fields, respectively. Then edit the filename to a slightly different name.
o COPY A FOLDER TREE TO A TEXT DOCUMENT
Open a true text-only editor session using an app like TextWrangler (not TextEdit!). Drag a folder (or its proxy icon) from the Finder into the editor window. Viola`! The names of the folder and all its subfolders and files are pasted into the text buffer in a properly indented form.
o COPY A FILE TO A TEXT DOCUMENT
Drag a file from the Finder into a text-only editor like TextWrangler or similar (not TextEdit!) and the _contents_ of the file (not its icon) are inserted into the document.
o MAKE A NEW FILE THAT CONTAINS SELECTED TEXT
Select some text. Drag it to a folder. This creates a "textClipping" file which contains the selected text. Opens as a "Finder document".
o COPY A PHOTO FROM IPHOTO TO A FOLDER
Open iPhoto. Drag (to copy) a photo to a folder. Makes a jpeg file of the photo in that folder.
    *** KEYBOARD TRICKS ***
    o MENUS AND LISTS
Opt-U/D: Move highlight bar to top or bottom of most menus and lists. Does not work in Spotlight drop-down menu. Works in Snow Leopard Mac Mail (v 4.5, anyway) if you hold it down for a second: you get an error signal, but it works anyway.
PgUp/PgDn | Home/End: Moves highlight bar to top or bottom of menus. Moves only the view for lists.
Opt-Spacebar: Move highlight to the alphabetically first item in a menu (except in the Spotlight drop-down menu).
    o SPOTLIGHT DROP-DOWN MENU
After selecting an item on the drop-down menu via the arrow keys:
    Cmd-Return: Open enclosing folder.
    o SPOTLIGHT WINDOW
If ^F7 is set to "all controls", press ^F7 four times if it's the first search in a particular Spotlight window; two, otherwise. This moves you to the list of results.
If ^F7 is set to "text boxes and lists only", just Tab.
    o CALENDAR WIDGET
Home: go to the current year and month.
Up, down, left, right arrows: go one year back, one year forward, one month back, one month forward. Hold a L or R arrow down to autorepeat through the years. (You can't do _that_ with the mouse!) Also works with U and D for the months.
    o SPELL CHECK
Cmd-Shift-; - Open spelling pane. But you knew that one. Press ^F6 to get to the pane. Tab around to everything except Define and Guess. With the focus on the replacements list, use the arrow keys to select a replacement word from the list. (Press the spacebar to run the control with the highlight perimiter and press Return to run the control with the solid highlighting.)
    o MAIL
Cmd-I - Open Account Info window
    o NAVIGATING HELP PANES
    - Old-style help panes :
Open the menu pane in the usual way. The Highlight perimeter will be on the search window.
Tab: Move among the Search field, the page, and the controls on top. Add Shift to reverse.
    When on the page:
Use the usual navigation keys -- Up, Down, Home, End, Page up, and Page Down, Spacebar, Shift-Spacebar -- to scroll through the page.
Opt-Tab: move among the links on the page or items in a "Help Topics" list. The highlight perimeter will be rectangular. Press Return or Enter to click the selected link or item. Add Shift to reverse direction.
Cmd-F: Open the Find bar. Move about with Tab. Move among the arrows with L or R arrow keys. To find a string: Type your search string in the Find field. Press Return or Enter. Press again to find the next occurrence, etc.
To go to the page from the Find bar: Shift-Tab to the left or right arrow. Then press Shift-Tab two more times.
To close the Find bar: Tab to Done and press the spacebar or just press Escape.
You can return to the app via ^F6, but the help pane stays open.
When the highlight perimeter is on one of the arrow controls, press Spacebar to click it. If the left arrow control is selected press the down arrow to see places going backward. If the right arrow control is selected press the Down arrow to see a list of places going forward. Either way, use the usual menu navigational shortcuts.
When the highlight perimeter is on the Home control, press the down arrow to get a menu of apps. (The mouse way for this is to click and hold and "drag" and release as above.) The usual menu navigational shortcuts are valid. Also, you can press the spacebar to go Home.
When the highlight perimeter is on the Gear button, press the spacebar or down arrow to get the drop-down menu. The usual menu navigational shortcuts are in effect.
(To do any of the above three with the mouse, click on the control and hold the mouse button down, then without releasing the mouse button, move the pointer to highlight the desired item on the menu and release the mouse button.)
    - New-style help panes:
Open the menu pane in the usual way. The Highlight perimeter will be on the search window.
Tab to move around to most things. The table of contents becomes keyboard-active one Tab-press past the Search field, at which point use the L and R arrow keys to navigate the Contents panel, and the U and D arrow keys to move the down and up the page.
To be able to use PageUp and PageDn, Tab to the back/forward button, then press Shift-Opt-Tab.
Cmd-F: Opens the Find bar. Navigate with Tab and L/R arrow keys. When you are on this bar, press Shift-Tab repeatedly until the highlight perimeter moves out. Then press Shift-Tab once more to go back to the page, where the L and R arrow keys move you around the TOC sidebar and the U and D arrow keys scroll the page.
AFAIK, you can choose Get Started or Browse Help only with the mouse.
You can return to the app via ^F6, but the help pane stays open.

I guess you meant that unfortunately these don't have them.
    (1) I meant that, unfortunately for your impressive work, there's nothing in it that hasn't already been documented elsewhere. The two items I mentioned contain your shortcuts, and many more besides.
I don't see any of them in either. I have Pogue's book and they're not there. In fact, I emailed these tricks to him and he was impressed with some of them. And of course there are more. I never claimed to have an exhaustive list. In fact, I doubt anyone has such a list.
    (2) Mac OS X v10.6 has been out for, what is it, 3 years? If you think that there are any 'secret' shortcuts left, then you seriously underestimate the average Mac user. Some of that stuff is even older. For instance, the "Save-As Sheet Trick" dates back to Jaguar, or even before that. "Make a New File That Contains Selected Text" is older than Mac OS X itself!
Well, first of all there's no need to get hostile.
I don't underestimate the average Mac user. But I would venture to guess that most are heavily mouse oriented and would not even be interested in the keyboard tricks I posted. And I only said that I haven't seen them on any website, not that no one else in the world knows about them.
Additionally, there have been things missed by the smartest of people. Stereo vision was missed even by Issac Newton, one of the biggest geniuses to grace the planet! It was Wheatstone who first picked up on it. And it used to be thought that a cube flying by at relatvisitic speed would appear foreshortened in the direction of motion. In fact, as was noted decades after relativity was published, it in fact appears rotated. If super smart people could miss this, then perhaps those few who publish these tricks may not know about them.
Re the save-as trick and the new-file-contains-your-text tricks: fine, they're old, but so are many of the tricks that are posted on websites. So why some old ones but not others? How about cut and paste? I bet they're pretty old but that doesn't prevent people from posting them, as in your first reference!
    (3) Also unfortunately, your listing mixes up shortcuts and 'tricks' of different categories. For instance, "Copy a File to a Text Document" is not secret, it is not a trick, and it is not relevant. What an app does with a file dropped onto an open document of its own does not depend on the system, but on the app and how it was programmed. TextEdit inserts a text file's path while TextWrangler inserts the text file's contents not because the former is not a text editor, but because that's how each was designed to work. And TextWrangler's behaviour is documented in the accompanying manual.
So one of my tricks is lame. I don't see that as that big a deal.
Bottom line: I don't see any of them in the docs you referenced.

  • Automatically run a keyboard shortcut after opening a document

I unknowingly posted this elsewhere, but was asked to post this here.
    I have a curio document/template that I use often.
Curio has a mode called: full screen view, which only works by:
    the keyboard shortcut: Cmd *
or by: click on Window and then clicking on Full Screen
I'm looking for a way to have all my documents open up full screen every time I open curio (or curio documents). Is there an apple script or automator action possible for this? Can you pls help? I'm new to this. Thanks.
I tried what was posted by arthur, but apart from the document opening up in curio, it does not go to full screen.
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11128555#11128555
Maybe something's wrong with my workflow. I noticed that Curio is not coming to front. Is that it?
I then tried the link provided by baltwo, and installed automatedworflows.com demo 'type keystroke', but i only get the demo pop-up.
    I appreciate any help. Thx.

then the workflow should be like this.
    1. open "finder items".
    2. run "apple script"
    on run {input, parameters}
    tell application "Curio" to activate
    tell application "System events" to keystroke "8" using {command down, shift down}
    end run
save it as an application and put it on the desktop and/or in the dock. also go to system preferences->universal access and check the box to enable access to assistive devices.
now when you drop a file onto your automator application it should open that file with Curio and then execute the shortcut commandshift8.

  • How do i use the "Alt+Ctrl+;" keyboard shortcut to Lock and Unlock Guides in Adobe Illustrator?

    Hello,
I've been trying to lock my guides in Illustrator CS5 with the default keyboard shortcut "Alt+Ctrl+;", but with no result.
When i edit this shortcut via the 'Edit/Keyboard Shortcuts...' menu, and type in the same keystroke combination for that command - so again "Alt+Ctrl+;" for "Lock Guides' - the shortcut changes from "Alt+Ctrl+;" into "Alt+Ctrl+."
This new "Alt+Ctrl+." shortcut is usable. Now the same 3 different keystrokes tabbed at the same time do lock and unlock the guides, but i'm left wondering why it is that i can't use the "Alt+Ctrl+;" combination.
There now also seems to be no way around changing the new combination into the old one again.
    I hope someone can help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Johan

Thanks Jacob. I can't seem to find a solution to my problem within the site you linked, but i'm still happy with it. Seems to be a great resource for answers.

  • How can I import my keyboard shortcuts from my iPhone to my new MACBOOK pro?

Now I'm guessing that 99% of you don't use this feature on iPhone or Macbook so I'm curous to know who knows the answer
I recruit a lot and have canned texts and emails (which means I usually say the same thing)
in my iPhone I set it up (by going to General, Keyboard, Shortcuts) to have when I type in a certain phrase, it types on something else. FOR EXAMPLE
"randq" would automatically turn into "Random Question, do you know anyone open to making more money?"
I have around 40 of these shortcuts and want to save myself the time manually entering them one by one into my macbook.
I know where these settings ARE but I'm wondering if there's a shorter way to do this?
(Settings are under Language and Text, TEXT"
If you are able to help, that would be awesome!

  • Keyboard shortcuts not working

Here is the thread I had going online. Lost patience. Very disappointed. I would love an answer if you have one.
    Drake DeLucca
in Adobe Story Plus my keyboard shortcuts do not work. I'm on a Macbook. I'm really tired of using an outdated Mac and Final Draft AV, but I cannot get this Adobe Story to work at all. I cannot work efficiently if I have to go to a drop down menu every time I need a new element. I need to keystroke the element & type. I'm running the latest OS on my Macbook Pro.
Vartul, thank you for the link , but I didn't make myself clear. I had been to the linked page previously. When I use these keyboard shortcuts on my Macbook they simply do not have the specified outcome. They don't work at all. Is there a setting in preferences that I need to correct? I am generally working with multiple desktops and swipe from one to another using my multitouch trackpad. When I use the specified shortcuts I get bounced out of Adobe Story into another desktop. This leads me to believe there is a Mac Preference that needs to be changed but I haven't figured it out yet. Can you enlighten me as to what the conflict might be?

    Hi Drake,
    Sorry for a late reply.
I am guessing that you are using Story through Safari browser. The shortcuts to change element types are in Safari are:
    Apply Scene Heading : Control + 1
    Apply Action : Control + 2
    Apply Character : Control + 3
    Apply parenthetical : Control + 4
    Apply dialogue : Control + 5
    Apply transition : Control + 6
    Apply shot : Control + 7
    Apply General : Control + 8
There are another set of keyboard shortcuts that affect the behaviour of 'Tab' and 'Enter' keys while you are typing some element.
e.g. when you are typing a 'Scene Heading', pressing 'Enter' will move you to an 'Action' element. Similarly while typing an Action element, pressing 'tab' key will add a new 'Character' element.
You can customize these set of shortcuts from Temple option of Edit Menu.
    I hope this helps

  • Is there a way to use Frame 8 keyboard shortcuts in 9?

I understand that there is a new UI, but my coworker wants to remain on Frame 8 if he can't use the shortcuts he's been using for 15 years (muscle memory lasts a long time). Is there any way (a preference maybe) to use the F8 shortcuts? I saw a trick for scrolling through paragraph styles starting with the same letter using the down arrow. (Hello Adobe? It is not reasonable to suggest having headings names start with a unique letter. There are huge and current books that have all their tags already. And there are only but so many letters.) If there is no way to use F8, is there a table somewhere of what to do now?
    Thanks so much.

So here are a few specific problems:
    1. Ctrl 8 and 9 make you use the down arrow key to cycle through letters. How would I change the ini file so that I could just keep hitting the letter?
    2. When I start typing something and then realize I've hit the wrong letter, it seems I need to backspace to the begining to correct it. I used to be able to just start up with the correct letter.
    3. Sometimes I hit Ctrl 9 and I do not get the small box where the style names display, I only see the arrow that I then need to mouse over to and click to list the styles. Why is that?
    4. If I accidently hit Ctrl 8 when I wanted 9 (for example), I have to hit escape and then start again. Previously, hitting the correct sequence twice would get me where I wanted.
That's all I can think of now...I appreciate the assistance...jen
The operation of the menu that opens with Ctrl+8 and similar commands has changed in recent releases. It's not clear if it's due to a bug or a design intention. You can ask for a bug fix or feature enhancement at Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form.
Search FrameMaker help for Keyboard Shortcuts for lists of useful shortcuts. Even if you open a menu with a different shortcut - say Escape q p, or Escape q c (quick paragraph or character format list) instead of Ctrl+8 or 9, the menu still misbehaves.
I haven't tried typing a different shortcut with the Escape-key method, while in a "wrong" one, to see if that works as you remember the Ctrl+ method, but it's more keystrokes than typing Escape.
    It's not customizable in maker.ini.
There are third-party keystroke recorder utilities that may be useful. For example, you could invoke a shortcut that opens a Ctrl+ or Escape-key menu, then types the specific command you want (without mis-typing) and executes it. Search for keystroke macro recorders on Google.
