my boyfriend doesnt have a mac and wants to get a web cam so we can chat, will any web cam work with my mac?

Your MacBook already has a webcam built-in.
As far as services go, since your boyfriend doesn't have a Mac, I think Skype would be the best choice for cross platform chatting. Or AIM.

I've had my G-5 since I ordered new in November of 2005, and only now am I geting around to purchasing speakers and musing about a web camera.
On speakers, the kid at Best Buy yesterday told me that speakers aren't really operating system specific. That is, that they plug and play into any computer and don't require any software; like speakers do to a stereo. However, I just noticed the speakers I bought (Logitech Z-10) for $120.00 do not have "Macintosh" listed on the box as it does for a PC on the Requirements listing. Before I open this box and find out they don't work properly, do I really need Mac specific speakers?
I also went to the Mac store here in Fashion Valley and they no longer carried any web cameras. After visiting three other computer retailers such as Best Buy, and Frys, I came up dry on cameras for a Mac. I do however have an Ebay merchant selling a MacAlly iceCam Web Camera Mac right here in town who I can drive over and purchase one if I want to. However, after going on Ebay, I noticed that the $300.00 Mac iSight camera is there for sale, so I was wondering what the difference was. The MacAlly one is around $27.00, whereas the iSight is close to $300.00. Is the iSight worth the price in other words? What can it do that the MacAlly can't? Would the MacAlly suffice just to talk to another across the country?

iSight question: It looks like I'm going to have to purchase an iSight web camera at an overinflated price at a site such as Ebay since Apple no longer produces them, so my question is, Does anyone know whether the camera came with software or manuals (In case the seller doesn't have any) ... or does one actually need any?
Keychain Question: What's this annoying keychain box that pops up everytime I use Safari? How do I get rid of it? What's it for? What am I supposedly unlocking? I don't think I have a keychain password.

Toshiba Portege Problem: *Battery is not charging and web camera initialization failed.*

Hi,
I am having problems with my Toshiba Portege laptop. 1) Once laptop opens, window appears which says, "Web camera initialization failed. Please check your camera device and restart application or computer." Not sure what happened why the web cam application did not run properly. 2) Battery won't charge. When clicking the battery icon, it just says, "0% available plugged in, charging." I can not open my laptop when the cord is unplugged.

been initialised especially when attached via hub.
Windows boot sequences do not wait until they finished.
if the camera is working after a while than thats here the
case despite that message and it can be ignored.

forget the software symbol for the purpose of the question -
on any notebook you should see a battery symbol/LED
somewhere on the case. its yellowish/orange when
charging green when battery is full. if it doesn't change into green
(overnight charging) the battery is faulty or even missing...

G3 BW/350 and web camera compatibility

Hi, it is for G3 BW/350. Have a web cam Genius w mac drivers installed and WebCam Monitor software. The system recognized it, but not the software, iChat, Yahoo Messenger. I know iChat wants 600mgz minimum processor. Am i able to use a web camera with this computer, how can i do it in this case? Thank You, appreciate any help!

Video enabled after install. of IOXWebcamX-1.1, VideoCAM Eye, macam.app. It works now w iChat too. It not work with Video Viewer.app. There are no real colors in fact, its like three color mode. The Genius VideoCAM Trek was recognited as Sonix 0x6007.

Satellite L305D-S5893 Web Cam Help Please?!?!

So I just got this new Satellite L305D-S5893 and it has a web cam but I have NO clue how to use it. I checked the resource guide on how to use it and there's nothing in there.. I looked in my start menu.. under programs and found a "Camera Assistant Software" but that does nothing when I click on it? So can anyone help me and tell me how to use the web cam on this thing? When you open the camera assist software it usually hides the program on the left side of the screen. Try moving your mouse around the edges of the screen until it pops up. Or you can look for the utility in the toolbar and click "show toolbar". Then you can click on "start camera".
To make sure the camera is detected you can look in device manager. Look for "Imaging devices" and then make sure it shows Chiconey USB 2.0 camera.

Internal microphone and web camera not being detected

I've just bought last week this toshiba Satellite L845D-SP4387RM model and my microphone was working just fine a few days ago, yesterday that I wanted to use it for skype it just stoped working, actually the computer does not detect any internal micro nor the internal web camera, I've allready tried reinstalling the Conexant Audio drivers, restoring Windows 8, reseting BIOS to default configuration, I've also tried going to control panel and check if the micro and camera are enabled but the internal ones just does not appear on the list, the only ones that appear are the corresponding to external ones. I don't believe that the problem is hardware malfunction because everything was just fine a few days ago.
Some help on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated!

After some reading I found that the intenal camera and microphone are connected with the same cable, so I believe that if the camera is not working then the micro will not work too, I'm triying to fix this, perhaps the problem is with the camera drivers, Does anybody have any idea that will provide me with some help? thx.

Export data to excel with EPPlus and Web Api - HELP!

I am trying to do a simple excel file export with EPPlus and Web Api. In the html client I have a button that calls the web api and opens a new window. No error is thrown, but the result is always "file could not be downloaded". I get the
save file dialog but the file name is Order/ instead of the expected Orders.xls or Orders.xlsx. Can anyone help? I'm surprised this is so difficult.

The problem is that the LightSwitch query (commented out in the code above) is trying to load navigation properties for the orders. Error: "It is not valid to access this object on the current thread." How do I solve this?

Web cam help....Please!

I just bought a Satellite L305D-S5934 laptop and I have no idea how to get the web cam to work. When ever I turn on my computer it says webcam driver open fail. restart computer. I did that and it just says the same thing. I looked in the user guide and it said nothing about this. I unistalled/reinstalled the camera assistance software but still not working. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

I have had a heck of a time resolving the webcam driver open fail on startup. I tried to follow Document ID: 98082243 instructions. My Chicony USB 2.0 Camera did not have the yellow exclamation point, but I went on and reinstalled the driver, selecting USB Video Device as suggested in Step 6. Restarted the computer, and still had the same problem.
Went to Yahoo, and did a further search - found that this is an on going problem but found resolution here:

I needed to uninstall the webcam - restarted the computer. No more error message, and I could turn the webcam on - the blue light came on, and I showed up on the screen. Pretty cool - except having my picture on screen.
Hope more of you can find it this easy to fix.

2.Run it and go to the tab updates and tune-ups.
3.Click in the button check for updates. It will find you the updates.

Also if it doesnt' work , you can also try :
1.Right click to the computer.
2.Click to the manage option.
3.Then select the device manager.

If and this doesn' t work unistall the drivers and install them again.

The SessionListener interface is part of the 2.3 Servlet API. I may be wrong, but I believe Tomcat 4+ is required to run the 2.3 API.

Screen share and simultaneous web cam

Hi all,
I have a 7 day trial premium account. When I make a video call and then share my screen, my video feed is then turned off. Is this functioning as designed?
When looking for an answer to this question I was under the impression that both screen share and web cam (from one caller) could be used simulataneously.
I am using Windows 7 with Skype version: 6.11.0.102. My Skype app says this is latest version although it looks like 6.13 is now avaialble...

Please, run the DirectX diagnostics tool.
Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.
Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

WEb camera initializtion failed in Satellite P750-114

Dear All,
I am facing a problem with the web camera in my Toshiba Satellite P750-114. The laptop is less than two months old and the web camera was working fine, then it suddenly stopped working. The error message is "Web camera initialization failed. Please check your camera device and restart application or computer". The Microphone stopped working as well, as it is related to the web camera device. The operating system is Windows 7 64bits. It seems that the operating system is not seeing that there is a webcam anymore. I tried the following things:
1- I uninstalled the web camera driver, downloaded the most recent driver from Toshiba website (the link is http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/supportMyProduct.do?service=UK) , and installed it, but it did not work.
2- I restored the original setting for the laptop, but still the web camera is not working.
Two ways I am using to test the web camera: the Skype and "Web Camera Application" from Start/Toshiba/Utilities
Please if someone has any idea on how to resolve this problem, the laptop is band new and it is fantastic, but this problem is annoying. I searched the Internet for similar problems, some Toshiba models suffer from this problem but not P750-114,

Generally speaking, after recovery image installation all hardware components should be recognized and installed properly so with this factory settings everything should work as on the day after you purchased your notebook and started it for the first time.
If the cam doesn't work with factory settings I can imagine there is some hardware problem.
I recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. They can check cam functionality using their diagnostic tools and exchange cam if necessary.
Of course it will be covered by valid warranty.

Help!! - Live Web Cam Chat in a Captivate E-Learning Session

I really hope someone can help me with this one. I am doing an elearning session in Adobe Captivate which needs to contain a live web cam chat. I was thinking about creating a flash video to record the live web cam chat but have no idea how to do it. Unfortunately this is one skill that I haven't had the opportunity to learn and have never had to do this before. Its very new and sophisicated for me!!!!

Okay. Gotcha!
For starters, you won't want to use Captivate to capture the Web Chat. I recently tried some full motion using Captivate 4 and it's seldom going to give you anything remotely close to what you want. So you will need to investigate some other software to capture the Web Cam stuff.
Perhaps investigate another Adobe product called Visual Communicator.
Once you get something that is able to capture the Web Cam, it needs to spit back out a file in FLV or SWF output. You would then drop the FLV into Captivate. (Or present it in a frame on a web page).
Hopefully this helps a smidge.
