Cheap ibook battery replacement?

I know this has been touched on in other posts, but I can't find definitive answers.
The battery on my 2.5 year old iBook is completely shot, it holds absolutely no charge (not even enough power to keep the computer asleep).
I'm looking for the absolute cheapest replacement battery, since I don't want to put much more money into this laptop. But, I don't want to buy junk that doesn't work. I've seen replacement iBook batteries on ebay for as little as $60; some claim to have a 6 month or 9 month warranty on them.
On Amazon, I'm finding replacement batteries in the $70-$90 range from brands like "Encore Power", "Hi-capacity", "TechPower", and "Dekcell"; some claiming a 1 year warranty.
Does anyone have any experience with any cheap replacement batteries? I've heard of some that don't fit well or just don't work well; but I'd be curious to hear from more people about them. Thanks!

The cheapest one I've found for a 14-inch iBook is at _Priority Electronics_. The batteries for the 14-inch models are scarcer and more expensive than the batteries for the 12-inch iBooks.

  • Ibook battery replacement - which battery?

I have a 2003 model of the iBook (firewire, dual usb, 800mhz, 14" g3) that needs a battery replacement. The batteries in the Apple store are astronomically priced, so I'm hoping to get one on Ebay, but I want to make sure that I get the right one. Is there some sort of battery model number that I need?
The mac store near me doesn't know the model number because the batteries are out of stock.
Also, won't I be able to replace the battery myself? I just need to know how to do that!
    Thanks for your help...

Well, the age of the battery is the most important thing. A lithium-ion battery starts its inevitable decline when it leaves the assembly line, and it doesn't matter if it's used or not (i.e., sitting in storage), the typical lifespan is two to three years.
So whether or not it's an Apple-branded battery, the age of it is the most important thing.
The model number doesn't matter at all, really, since newer ones have a different model number, but work fine.
Wherever you get it, be sure that they warrant it for at least a year, as Apple and other retailers do.
Instructions for replacing the battery can be found in this Apple Knowledge Base article:

  • Ipod Touch 2nd Gen Battery Replacement?

I have a 32 Gig Ipod Touch 2nd Gen, bought it when it first game out. Battery has been really poor lately and I took it to the Apple Store to see what I can do. They told me that they don't do battery replacements, just replace the whole unit. I said fine, until they came back from their computer and told me that it would cost me $250! I was pretty shocked, they just smiled and said, well they are trying to encourage people to drop their old units and buy new ones.
Anyways, $250.00 to replace a battery that should cost no more than $50.00 as per any other battery I've every replaced is pretty ridiculous if you ask me. With that said, does anyone know of any options to get my battery replaced, a good place I can send it in to, I'd like to get a "GOOD" battery not some cheap unit that will die on me quick.
Comment to Apple, I don't mind paying a little extra to replace the unit with a new battery but $250 is absolutely absurd, and to hear a comment on a perfectly good unit that Apple is charging a lot to encourage people to buy newer gens is very upsetting. I was eventually planning on getting a 64Gig version but at the cost, it's just not worth it to know that these items are just disposible once the battery dies! I hope you consider changing your policy in the future to something more reasonable. However old it is, any other product I have costs me a few dollars to replace the battery and I get good use out of it for a very long time!
    Thanks

In the USA, Apple would charge $79 plus shipping for battery replacement:

This place will charge $35 plus shipping

  • Bring my MBP in for battery replacement comes back with broken display

So I took my late 2011 15" MBP in for a warranty covered battery replacement and when I returned to pick it up they told me that the display does not work. Never had an issue with the display and worked fine when I brought in an opened it up for them to inspect it cosmetically. They tell me it will be 500 dollars to repair this and theres nothing I can do about it. They offered to let me pay for half of the repair. But still, does this not seem right? You dont drive your car in for an oil change and come back to find 4 flat tires you are $500 on the hook for.

May be some sort of electronic short also took out the display along with the battery, if there was obvious physical damage they would have caught it at the get go.
If you don't have AppleCare, a 3 year old machine facing high repair costs, I would suggest you don't spend another dime on it and either buy a new one or a cheaper Windows laptop if your rough on hardware.
My Early 2011 is still like brand new, because I'm very careful with it.
This will assist in getting your data off the dead machine.

  • How to correctly remove/install iBook battery plus battery problem

My iBook G4 (14 inch screen, late 2005 model) battery may need replacing. Lately when using only battery power, the computer has shut down suddenly when the power gets down somehere below 50%. If I were to get a new battery, what is the correct way to replace it? In the computer user's manual on p. 47 under "Using Your Battery" it says "If your battery runs low while you are working, attach your power adapter and let the battery recharge. If you want to replace the battery with a charged one, attach the power adapter, shut down your iBook, and replace the battery. If you replace the battery without the power adapter attached, you can lose information and settings such as the date and time." But on p. 48 under "Removing and Replacing the Battery" it says under To Remove the Battery: "Shut down your iBook. Disconnect the power adapter, phone card, and any other cables to the computer to prevent damaging the computer." Which is correct: leave the power adapter connected, or disconnect it? Thanks!
If anyone has any thoughts about what could be causing the shut downs when using battery power, that would also be helpful. I have mostly used the power adapter, letting the computer run on battery power occasionally. The system profiler says I have gone through only 15 cycles. I did calibrate the battery when I first got the computer.

Talked to Applecare on the phone and they also supported the idea of resetting the PMU, which I have now done. Restarted the computer and ran it off the battery the rest of the day. When it got below 50% the computer shut down once again. This time when I turned it back on the battery showed only 1% power! The previous times the battery would show 46% or whatever it was when it shut down. Then I turned off the computer, plugged in the AC power adapter, and let it charge overnight, but now 11 hours later, the battery indicator has gotten up to only 56% and will go no higher. The System Profiler says the battery is now not charging and indicates that the capacity is 3888 and the remaining capacity is 2180. It still shows 15 cycles, which is what it showed before. I guess I will be heading into the Apple Store soon. Any other thoughts before I do?

  • Translucent iBook Battery

    Hello Eveyone,
My MacBook was fine, but I needed soneting a little more portable. When I was at a Computer Flea in Boston, I picked up a 500Mhz iBook Dual USB with a DVD Drive for $25.
Well, of course, you don't get much for $25, so as a project, I am going to fix it up and upgrade it. All of the components are in working order, but the case parts are pretty shot. I will be getting them from PowerBook Tech, so I'm pretty much set there.
But, the battery in it is dead and damaged, so I need to replace that. But, the battey is the original and is a translucent plastic one. Apple doesn't produce the translucent batteries anymore to my knowledge, they are all opaque.
So my question is, where am I able to find a translucent plastic iBook battery? It can be in any condition, any amount of life left, it doesn't matter. I know the opaque batteries do the same thing, but the opaque battery doesn't fit in with the rest of the computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    -Brian

    You know...
Since you have to replace the case anyway you might want to change the color too! It’s really easy to do:
    1) Soak the case (and battery cover) in rubbing alcohol then wipe off the white paint. Some spots will be stubborn so soak a paper towel in alcohol to get those spots.
    2) Carefully pry off the white bracket piece on the top. This is the piece that goes around the display. Use lots of alcohol here too. It helps dissolve the glue.
    3) When you are down to clear plastic wash the case in warm soapy water and let dry overnight.
    4) Mask off the front with paper and masking tape. You don’t want paint on the outside. Then spray several light coats of Krylon spray paint for plastics. They make lots of colors.
*You can even mask off shapes inside the case. When the paint is dry remove them and you now have windows in your case where you can place your favorite photos! It ends up looking like those laptop skins – only your photos are on the INSIDE!
Here is a photo of one I did in red:

  • ZEN TOUCH BATTERY REPLACEMENT POL

BEFORE I PURCHASED MY ZEN TOUCH 40GB, I EMAILED CREATIVE TO SEE WHAT THERE BATTERY REPLACEMENT POLICY WAS. I GOT AN EMAIL BACK SAYING CREATIVE WILL REPLACE THE BATTERY FOR YOU FOR ABOUT $80, YOU JUST HAVE TO SEND THE UNITY TO THEM. THIS WAS THE DECIDING FACTOR FOR ME TO GO WITH THE ZEN TOUCH OVER THE IPOD, THE BATTEYR REPLACEMENT POLICY WAS CHEAPER AND BETTER. CREATIVE SAYS THE BATTERY SHOULD LAST BETWEEN 3-4 YEARS UNDER NORMAL USUAGE BEFORE YOU HAVE TO SEND IT IN TO BE REPLACED. MY QUESTION IS HAS ANYONE HAD TO SEND IN THEIR ZEN TOUCH TO HAVE THE BATTERY REPLACED YET? IF SO HOW LONG DIDI IT TAKE TO GET YOUR PLAYER BACK? HOW MUCH DID IT COST? WHEN YOU GET A NEW BATTERY INSTALLED DOES THIS MEAN WHEN YOU GET THE PLAYER BACK YOU HAVE TO RE-LOAD YOUR MUSIC FROM SCRATCH?
    THANK YOU

Wow, I am glad someone has asked Creative about that - that is good news, my sister (who owns "my" Touch) will appreciate that! Incidentally, Apple just lowered the price for their iPod battery replacement program to $65.95:

  • Finally a good iBook battery story!

    Hello
After searching these forums in the archived section i found one where a person here recommend a ibook battery from a seller on eBay. finally after thinking for weeks what seller i wanted to buy my battery from i had something to go on-a positive review from someone here. i bought the battery which arrived today and since have tested it.
i took the old one out put the new one in and turned it on from the battery. i thought that i would try it out of the box and it worked and up in the corner showed that it was already at a 50% charge. i since have charged it and as i type this its currently after a hour of use showing a 93-92%charge. this battery came with a one year warrenty and shiped fast.
sorry if this was long or a useless thread but i thought that it would help out people who want to find a good battery on eBay for cheap and from a good seller!

You can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay. Every MacBook from 2006 through Mid 2009 except the Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 and 2010 White Unibodies use the same A1185 battery.

  • TruePowerPremium iBook Battery ...

I had to get a new battery for my G4 iBook. Our local Apple shop sold me a TruePowerPremium iBook Battery, which claims the "Highest Capacity, up to 50% More Capacity."
I've already allowed the battery to go completely dead three times, and fully charged the battery each time. I still only get barely two hours of normal use.
With the original battery I was getting six hours of use. Last summer I was still getting between 4 1/2 and 5 hours of usage. I bought the iBook in June of 2004.
The Apple shop told me that my iBook battery doesn't qualify for free replacement.
Question: Is there a better battery than the TruePowerPremium iBook Battery? I am very disappointed that I can only get two hours of normal use from this brand new battery!!!
    Help .... Thanks.
    iBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I tried another brand. When i discovered only Apple's batteries will allow automatic low power sleep I returned it and paid $20 more for an Apple battery.

  • What do they do in the battery replacement program?

umm..i have a 4gb blue ipod mini 2nd generation and i bought it on febuary 2005, which i think when the ipod mini second generation came out..and i think my battery is starting to die..so i was thinking..what r they gonna do with it in the battery replacement program? are they gonna replace the battery in my ipod? or there just gonna give me another ipod mini or whatever?
    Dell   Windows XP

Your warranty on the iPod has expired, so this is what Apple say.
"My iPod warranty has expired. What are my service options?
Apple offers two service options for iPods that are no longer within warranty. If your iPod, iPod with color display, U2 iPod, or iPod mini requires service only because the battery’s ability to hold an electrical charge has diminished, Apple will replace your iPod for a service fee of $59, plus $6.95 shipping.
If you own an iPod, and it requires service for any other issue, Apple will replace your iPod for the service fee listed below, plus $6.95 shipping and handling.
    iPod $249
iPod Nano & iPod Mini $189
    iPod shuffle (1 GB) $89
    iPod shuffle (512 MB) $59"
If it's just a battery replacement you require, there are cheaper options if you Google 'iPod mini batteries'.

  • Best place to buy iBook battery in UK

I reckon my battery needs replacing.
Can anyone recommend a good place in the UK to get one for my G3/800 iBook?
I know I know Google could give me an answer, but put in iBook Battery and it really is a bit of a mammouth trawl to find exactly what I'm looking for and then comparing prices.
    I'm happier with a recommendation.
    Thanks

Well, I did a little bit of the trawling for you, but can't offer a recommendation, since I'm not there myself. I know this is not what you had in mind, but…

  • Battery on iPhone 5 failed the test: Battery replacement or external battery? NEED HELP

Apple ran the test for me, and it shows that my iPhone 5 battery failed the test.
Therefore, I need to get a battery replacement to solve the problem.
I don't want to pay for $79 + tax to get it fix though. Another way I could think of would be getting an external battery pack.
It could cost around $40 (I will try to find it cheaper).
So, which way will last my phone longer?
    Which way you recommended?
P.S. I planned to use this phone until it breaks down! Therefore, I need to find the solution that will last my phone long.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, DO NOT tell me the ways to extend the battery life.
I tried every single way, but NONE WORKED!
    Let me know,

  • DIY iPod Battery Replacement on G3

I've had my G3 iPod for a few years now and shockingly the hard drive still works perfectly. But, the battery on the other hand, holds less charge than a candle. I bought a very cheap battery replacement kit online, but the tools included are so cheap they don't do a **** thing. How the **** do I open the iPod? Is there a good guide on the internet? I've seen a couple but they really don't go into any detail with photos and what not about how to really get the iPod opened up.

    see if these help
