Cheapest way to buy final cut studio 2

Hi there, I live in Australia and want to work out the cheapest way to legitimately and legally buy the full version of final cut studio 2 and think I have worked it out, but wanted to sanity check with others. My idea is to buy a new copy from ebay of an old version of final cut pro eg FCP 2, 3, 4 or 5 for a few $$ (have seen some for around $50) and then go to apple to buy an upgrade to final cut studio 2 rather than the full version ($899 vs $1,698AUD). My question is does this make sense. or should I just bite the bullet and buy the full version straight up? If any one can advise me of any hidden pitfalls of my plan it would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!

It can go either way. My eBay software purchases have worked out great. For example, I bought the upgrade from FCE to FCP on eBay and then used that to upgrade to FCS2. Everything was totally on the up-and-up. But too, I was completely prepared for every penny of that purchase to go down the toilet, if that's how it ended. I got lucky, it was just fine. So it's your call.
But if you get burned and have no recourse then whatever money got wasted there could've been spent going down a route that you can trust to be 100% legit. It all depends on your personal threshold for the potentially painful, wasteful consequences. It's a craps shoot. Feelin' lucky?

  • Buy Final Cut Studio 2 for DVD Studio Pro? Pro & Cons of DVD Studio Pro?

I am thinking of buying Final Cut Studio 2 because it includes the DVD authoring software DVD Studio Pro. iDVD uses automatic settings that are hard if not impossible to alter and so some DVDs are authored with very poor bit rates.
    1. Is it possible to change the bit rate manually in DVD Studio Pro so the best Quality DVD can be authored?
    2. Is is possible to change the audio from PCM (which takes up a lot of DVD space) to AC-3 in DVD Studio Pro, so picture quality is improved?
    3. Is there a way to buy DVD Studio Pro as a separate software package and use it with Final Cut Express?
    4. Generally what other options for DVD authoring with Mac are there besides iDVD and DVD Studio Pro?
    5. Is DVD Studio Pro a good piece of software or are there any particular faults?

    1. Yes, but you would use Compressor for your encoding instead of DVDSP.
    2. DVDSP will only encode to AIFF, Compressor will allow you to encode audio to AC3.
    3. Negative. DVDSP is only available as part of Final Cut Studio 2.
    4. You could try using Roxio Toast.
    5. DVDSP gets the job done for me. I think it works quite well.
For a good explanation of how Compressor and DVDSP workflows work within Final Cut Studio, I'd recommend you take a look at DVD StepByStep

  • Buying Final Cut Studio second hand- can I install on Mac Pro?

I'm going to buy Final Cut Studio software from a friend, who has registered the application with Apple. Can I install the software on my Mac Pro without problems? The previous owner had it installed on a MacBook Pro.

As long as they delete it from their computer, you should be fine....

  • If i buy final cut studio 2 and then get final cut studio 3 upgrade will it be final cut studio 3

ive been looking around to buy final cut studio 3 for weeks now with no success and i think ive found a solution i'm just wondering if it will work by buying final cut studio 2 full and then buying final cut studio 3 upgrade overall will everything be final cut studio 3?

You can still get the FCS3 upgrades from the apple shop
No you can not get FCS upgrades from Apple retail stores or Apple dealers, they have been recalled by Apple.
Only places that will stock is independant retailers and online used software vendors.
Apple have clearly stated that FCS is now ''end of life''

  • I have a question before I buy Final Cut Studio 2...

I plan on buying Final Cut Studio 2 tomorrow, but before I buy it, I have a question. If something were to happen to my MacBook Pro, can I just install it on another computer? It might be a stupid question but I just want to be sure before I drive to the Apple Store.
    Thanks!

As long as the computer meets the minimum specification you can install it on any computer.
Physically you can install it on thousands of computers but Apple wouldn't be too pleased !
However, you are legally allowed to have it simultaneously on one laptop and one desktop that are owned by you.
So whenever you want you can take it off one computer and put it on another.

  • Correct way to upgrade Final Cut Studio 2 to Final Cut Studio

I want to know what is the correct way to upgrade the Final Cut Studio 2 on my MacBook Pro to the new Final Cut Studio? I want to be able to keep LiveType seems to have been killed off in Final Cut Studio. Do I need to uninstall all products in Final Cut Studio 2, first or can install over?
Which is the best way to proceed, I will be making the purchase within the next couple of weeks.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sebastian

Thanks! This is very helpful. I would like to keep Live Type as well but my main concern was because I am thinking about buying a refurb Intel Mac Pro off ebay with FCS 2 already installed. I emailed the company and they do not have the licenses for the software because it came to them already on it. I was hoping that there would be a way that when I upgrade to the new FCS that it wouldn't ask me for those. Other forums said to erase FCS 2 before upgrading for some reason but that doesn't make sense to me. Are you having any problems with it after writing over your old FCS 2?
Anything else I should be worried about in buying this computer?!
    Thanks,
    Phil

  • Where can I buy Final Cut Studio?

I have been searching everywhere, but I can't find Final Cut Studio with Final Cut 7 in it.  Anyone know where I could buy this?  I would love to buy it from Apple, but I can't find it anywhere.

    Discontinued.
Call the Apple online store. A few months ago they still had a few copies for sale by telephone only.
    Maybe you will get lucky.

  • About to buy Final Cut Studio 2 OR Final Cut Express

Hey everyone, sorry if this has been threaded to death but i'm too lazy to search for it.
So I've worked with Final Cut before, FCP4 and FCE, I am definitely confident I can work with it without being TOO overwhelmed. The college i'm going to for mass communications definitely works with macs with FCP so it will def be an advantage to owning it now.
So my main concern is will my macbook pro c2d 2.16 with only 1 gb of ram memory (i bought it in may of this year) be able to run the entire final cut studio 2 without much sluggishness or requirement problems? Also i know i need a lot of hdd space (ive got like 60 gigs left) so i know an alternative drive will be required. but aside from this, is anyone running their FCP on a similar mac? thanks!

    Hi Guys,
Motion needs RAM to work properly, at lest 4GB of RAM for some kind of acceptable performance.
I tested Color on my MacbookPro (2GB RAM) and surprisingly it was working fine despite the monitor resolution isn't the one officially required (Serious color grading require an HD monitor anyway!).
    Austino,
Installing FCP6 and DVDstudioPro would be a good starting point for you to let your basic editing work get going.
I totally agree with Studio X,
You need an external hard drive to use as your scratch disk.
A G Tech *G-RAID 2* could be an option or Caldigit drives

  • Is there any way to get Final Cut Studio?

    I was just wondering...

Will Premiere CS6 import from FCE 4.0 project files?  Nothing fancy, just Browser folders of clips.
Nope. It will from Final Cut Pro XML files, but the ability to export XML files is/was not present in Final Cut Express.

  • Is there a way to instal Final cut studio 2 in the new iMac with Lion?

My new iMac arrived with pre installed Os x Lion. When tried to instal FCS2 it gives me error that it can't open it because PowerPC apps are no longer supported. Geniuses . I'm wandering, since I can't downgrade to snow leopard, is there a way around this. Can I buy the snow leopard, instal only the Roseta , instal FCS2 and then uninstall the Roseta?
Has any of you encounter this problem?
Are the new iMacs exclusively done to run with Lion?

You will need to install Snow Leopard in order to be able to run the FCS 2 Installer since it requires Rosetta. Note however, that the applications do not require Rosetta (they are UB). So after having installed FCS you could now upgrade to Lion if you want .... but upgrading the OS over an installed version of FCS is not recommended practice.
Personally, I'd just get a copy of Snow Leopard and stick with that .... or get FCS 3 (and stick with Snow Leopard).

  • Buying Final Cut Studio on eBay

I am using FCE HD at the moment and it is fine for me now. I wanted to buy Motion 2 but it is now only available as part of the FC Studio package. I would hate to spend $1300 when all I need is Motion which is really worth $300. I was thinking about buying FC Studio through eBay. How safe is it really? I know Apple will allow ownership transfer. But if the software doesn't work, I'm cooked, aren't I?

    How safe is it really?<<</div>
I've purchased several big ticket items on ebay with good luck, but I personally know several people who've been ripped off. As with anything used, Caveat Emptor (buyer beware).

  • How many computers can I install Final Cut Studio 2 on?

Here's my dilemma. I'm a poor soon-to-be college grad with an old 2004 PowerBook G4. I'm starting to do video projects this summer and want to get a new computer and Final Cut Studio 2. The problem is, I don't have money for both. However, my current computer DOES meet the requirements (1GB RAM, 1.5Ghz engine, and 17" monitor) to install the apps and run them. So, ideally, I would buy Final Cut Studio 2 and install it on this old computer until I saved up enough money to get myself a Mac Book Pro in a few months. Then, I would install FCS 2 on my new computer. Is this possible? Can I install FCS 2 on my old G4 and then months later when I get a new computer, on my new computer? Or at least transfer the apps to my new computer?
Thanks ahead of time! I haven't gone computer shopping in a while so I don't remember how this all works!

Install it on the PowerBook, and when you get the MacBook Pro, download and use this tool on the PowerBook prior to installing it on the MacBook Pro. The license for Final Cut Studio 2 permits it to be installed on a desktop and portable but not two portables.
If you're in the middle of a project when you get the MacBook Pro, complete it before changing the configuration.

  • Looking for advice on a new Mac Pro system mainly for Final Cut Studio 2

We are a small video production company that works mainly on broadcast and internet projects. We're looking to upgrade from an aging Avid system to a Mac Pro running Final Cut Studio 2. The primary thing we want from this system is to be able to work quickly in Final Cut while at the same time doing other operations, and we're willing to spend what it takes to make that happen. We've done a lot of research but still have some issues where we could use your expertise - it's a big investment and we want to nail it.
    Here's the configuration we're considering:
    Processor: Two 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (8-core)
    Memory: 16GB (4 x 4GB)
Hard Drives: 300GB 15,000-rpm SAS (for OS X, Final Cut, & other programs) plus 2 x 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s (for video storage)
    Graphics: NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600
We're thinking about spending the extra $1600 to get the best processor available, since we want this machine to be the hub of the business for about five years. Any thoughts on whether to save a bit and go with the 2.8GHz? We've also heard the bus speed presents a bottleneck so the Quad-Core processing power can't be fully utilized - should that have any bearing on our processor decision?
The memory choice seems right - we'll see how well that works and retain the option to double the RAM, particularly as prices fall and new applications or hardware upgrades become tenable. However, we're thinking of perhaps buying some or all of the memory third-party - any advice on whether this tends to be worthwhile, where to get it, and what to watch out for? It looks like there may some issues with getting proper heat-sinking.
We like the hard drive plan, though we've heard a 15,000-rpm drive may generate a lot of heat - any thoughts on this?
The graphics card is where we're most torn - specifically between the Quadro 5600, the GeForce 8800, or perhaps even getting the computer with the standard card (or no card) and getting a different third-party card. We do mostly DV now, but we foresee doing HD projects in the future. We often use a green-screen that's in our studio and also apply minimal 3D effects as well as 3D text. We're debating whether to get the Quadro 5600 right off the bat and hopefully have no issues with it, or whether to get the GeForce 8800 for now and if we have issues then consider upgrading to the Quadro 5600 or potentially something else that would best suit our needs at that time. Would love to receive any and all advice on this issue.
Also, it looks like we're gonna buy Final Cut Studio 2 and are considering also getting Final Cut Server. It seems the combination would allows us to use the Final Cut suite on other computers (both Mac and Wintel) that don't have their own version of Final Cut installed. Is that the correct interpretation? Any other advice on whether to get FC Server would be appreciated.
Thanks very much for reading - we look forward to getting any and all advice you may have.

*Don't do it!* Stick with the dual-2.8GHz config. A jump from that to the dual-3.2GHz gains you only an approximate 9% increase in power at a 52% increase in cost! Not worth it all. That money is much wiser spent on RAM, RAID array, or a broadcast monitor.
    Memory: 16GB (4 x 4GB)

The processor is only one part of the whole, and as I just mentioned, the power:cost benefits are not good.

Quadro 5600 is pricey, but I'm not sure about its benefits for people in our field. Even if I had the money for it, I would be hard pressed to consider it considering, again, money is liekly wiser spent elsewhere.

I don't know much about FCServer, but my impression is that it is -- simply speaking -- Final Cut version of Avid Unity. In other words, I am pretty certain that your understanding on that is false. I may be wrong.
