have you considered more 1G into different switches and load balancing?

Dear Members,
I am wondering what is the "cheapest" yet stable 10G 48P or 24P SFP+ switches which you are using in your network?
How do you setup the switch redundacy?
Thank you for sharing.
I am very tempted to upgrade each of our ESXI 5.5 hosts to 2x10G SFP+

  • Minimum Firmware Version on PX12-400R for VMware ESXi 5.5

    Hi,
    I'm planning on upgrading my VMware ESXi hosts from 5.0 to 5.5.
    The hosts have VMware Datastores mounted on our Lenovo / IOmega PX12-400R NAS.
    The PX12-400R is currently on firmware version 3.3.4.29700 - will this version work ok with ESXi 5.5?
    Thanks,
    Steve.

    The PX12-400R is curriently up to Firmware Version 4.0.8.23976.  I would suggest updating your Firmware to latest which could fix many of the issues.

  • FCoE with Cisco Nexus 5548 switches and VMware ESXi 4.1

    Can someone share with me what needs to be setup on the Cisco Nexus side to work with VMware in the following scenario?
    Two servers with two cards dual port FCoE cards with two ports connected to two Nexus 5548 switches that are clusterd together.  We want to team the ports together on the VMware side using IP Hash so what should be done on the cisco side for this to work?
    Thanks...

    Andres,
    The Cisco Road Map for the 5010 and 5020 doesn't include extending the current total (12) FEX capabities.  The 5548 and 5596 will support more (16) per 55xxk, and with the 7K will support upto 32 FEX's.
    Documentation has been spotty on this subject, because the term 5k indicates that all 5000 series switches will support extended FEX's which is not the case only the 55xx will support more than 12 FEX.  Maybe in the future the terminology for the 5k series should be term 5000 series and 5500 series Nexus, there are several differences and advancements between the two series.

  • UCS-E VMWARE licensing for VMWARE ESXi 5.1

    NAME: "UCSE Server Module on Slot 1", DESCR: "UCSE Server Module"
    PID: UCS-E140S-M2/K9
    I have this module installed in my router.  We have installed customized VMWARE ESX 5.1 image on the module.
    Question:  How do I get the license key?

    Hi Seb,
    That's the 2 port 8gb fibre card. I've got one in use on a PC based 5.1 install. The 81en and 84en are also supported (1 port and 4 port)
    If you're based in the uk feel free to get in touch as I can probably get you a good quote on one of the cards.
    All the best

  • NEW THREAD: 10G SFP+ Auto-Negotiating to 1G?

    Can a 10G SFP+ SR optic plugged into switch "A" AUTO-NEGOTIATE to 1G to support a 1G SFP SR optic plugged into switch "B" at the other end of the fiber cable?
    In short, what I am asking is whether a 10G SFP+ optic (SR/LR - doesn't matter) can be connected with fiber (of course) to a 1G optic and negotiate DOWN?
    If not, how do I connect that 1G sfp+ optic to a 10G sfp+ switch port?
    NOTE: I know Cisco SFP+ optics only operate at 10G and Cisco SFP optics operate only at 1G. But my question is a general question about SFP/SFP+. From my understanding, SFP+ CANNOT (regardless of vendor) negotiate down to 1G because the SFP+ standard defines a speed range between 4.25 Gbps to 16Gbps. Can someone verify?

    Here is one common Optic SFP that does do both 1G and 10G:
    Intel E10GSFPSR and
    Intel E10GSFPLR
    http://www.intel.com/content/dam/doc/product-brief/ethernet-sfp-optics-brief.pdf
    http://www.intel.com/support/network/adapter/pro100/sb/CS-030612.htm (expand section 1)
    I know for certain that they do support both 1G and 10G as for quite a while I ran these SFPs with Cisco GLC-SX-MMD, and eventually (now) Cisco SFP-10G-SRs.  No config changes or modifications were required to support this functionality.
    This was in a UCS server with a supported Cisco UCS Intel X520 card.

  • Is 10g RAC ready for OLTP

    To achieve high availability by eliminating single point of failures in the following areas we are thinking of having our OLTP DBs on a single 10g RAC cluster
    i) OS/Firmware patches requiring reboots
    ii) Unplanned server failures
    iii) One-off Oracle patches
    We have migrated our DSS systems to 10g RAC (windows x64). However, in the last 9 months since we deployed we have seen 2 issues: single node eviction & multiple node evictions. Single node eviction is supposedly fixed w/ a patch that needs clusterwide shutdown.
    The baseline for me on OLTP is 8i where I have taken DT once in 2 years to apply Oracle patches, once a year for OS patches and very rare server failures resulting in DB failover.
    Questions I have:
    a) Is 10g RAC really stable to be used for OLTP?
    b) How is this being designed elsewhere with a view to reduce planned/unplanned DTs
    thanks,
    SM

    > a) Is 10g RAC really stable to be used for OLTP?
    Loaded question as you are implying that until now, RAC has not been stable and not robust enough for OLTP.
    Stability for any system is dependent on:
    - platform h/w
    - storage h/w
    - network h/w
    - o/s s/w
    - application s/w
    - administration
    What RAC buys you is having multiple database instance for a single physical database. Which means that in the worse case where you are forced to down a platform because of one of the above reasons, the remaining platforms in the cluster should still be available.. courtesy of the share everything approach.
    But RAC alone is not the answer.. there are numerous factors to consider. One of my longest uptime databases is an Oracle SE server with a 12,000+ uptime. And it is used 24x7 as a data collection platform.
    It went down recently. The cause? Network errors and power failures that resulted in the rack cabinet housing this server, to be reset.
    Have numerous examples of how unforseen events caused disaster in a computer room. From dirty electrical power to an aircon automated switchover failing.
    RAC does not solve any of these. What happens when there is a power failure or h/w error with the switch used for the Interconnect? Without the nodes being able to communicate with one another, all nodes will be evict themselves from the cluster.
    Looking at RAC alone as The Solution to your H/A requirement is a bit naive IMO. Yes, RAC is an excellent and major cog in the wheel of H/A.. but there are others too.
    Q. Is 10g RAC really stable to be used for OLTP?
    A. As stable and as robust as you make it to be.

  • Cisco Nexus 1000v Virtual Switch for Hyper-V Availability

    Hi,
    Does anyone have any information on the availability of the Cisco Nexus 1000v virtual switch for Hyper-V. Is it available to download from Cisco yet? If not when will it be released? Are there any Beta programs etc?
    I can download the 1000v for VmWare but cannot find any downloads for the Hyper-V version.

    Any updates on the Cisco Nexus 1000v virtual switch for Hyper-V? Just checked on the Cisco site, however still only the download for VMware and no trace of any beta version. Also posted the same question at:

  • Dynamic Environment Switching For REPORTS_PATH 11g

    Oracle Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.2.0 with Patch Set 2 (11.1.1.3.0) - Linux
    Dynamic Environment Switching For REPORTS_PATH doesn't work.
    According to documentation B32121-03 (Publishing Reports to the Web with Oracle Reports Services 11g Release 1 (11.1.1) point 8.2.2):
    1. comment REPORTS_PATH in reports.sh
    2. set enviroment settings in rwserver.conf with REPORTS_PATH and NLS_LANG and defaultEnvId (DEV and PRD with defaultEnvId="DEV")
    3. restart reports server
    4. run http://mywls:8888/reports/rwservlet?SERVER=rep_wls_reports_mywls_asinst_1&REPORT=testreport.rdf&USERID=user/user1@mydb&DESFORMAT=html&DESTYPE=cache&ENVID=DEV
    REP-110: File testreport.rdf cannot be opened.
    REP-1070: An error occurred while opening or saving a document.
    REP-0110: File testreport.rdf cannot be opened.
    The same situation for &ENVID=PRD or without ENVID (as I expect it should work as default - DEV enviroment). File testreport.rdf is located in both paths (/u00/DEV/reports and /u00/PRD/reports)
    http://mywls:8888/reports/rwservlet/showenv?server=rep_wls_reports_mywls_asinst_1&authid=oiduser/oiduser1 reads informations from reports.sh file but doesn't read enviroment settings from rwserver.conf (REPORTS_PATH is empty because I comment it in reports.sh).
    Where's my problem? Should I set any other setting(s)?
    Unfortunately note [231051.1] and other referenced doesn't resolve my problem...
    Edited by: user9093781 on 2011-08-23 06:50

    Not sure if this helps at all. I just went through a nightmare trying to get 11g forms/reports to work through the forms builder.
    What I discovered with that is that I indeed had to set the REPORTS_PATH in rwserver.conf... however there were 3 different files that I ended up having to put it in (not sure if had to be in all 3). And perhaps more importantly, there seems to be an order to how you put these xml statements in the rwserver.conf files.
    In my case, it wouldn't work at all until I put it right after the last "<engine id=" statement.
    Mine looks something like this (not that this is a snippet of the file in Windows, for running via Forms/Reports Builder):
    <engine id="rwURLEng" class="oracle.reports.urlengine.URLEngineImpl" maxEngine="1" minEngine="0" engLife="50"/>
    <environment id="default">
         <envVariable value="C:\Oracle\WLS11gR1U4\user_projects\domains\AISworkstation\" name="REPORTS_PATH"/>
         <envVariable value="AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1" name="NLS_LANG"/>
         <envVariable value="RRRR-MM-DD" name="NLS_DATE_FORMAT"/>
    </environment>
    <environment id="windev_xxxxxxxx">
    <envVariable name="REPORTS_PATH"
    value="M:\ADS\Dvlprs\xxxxxxx\11g\FormsApps\stage;M:\ADS\Dvlprs\xxxxxxx\11g\FormsApps"/>
    </environment>
    I'm still figuring this all out too (although I did get it working how I need.. just not sure if it is the optimal solution), so I'm not sure how much this will help you. But for sure I can say that there is an order to these XML tags that I'm not so sure was the same (or maybe not enforced) in 10g.
    Good luck

  • Solaris 10 virtual machine for VMware

    I've tried the "Solaris 10 OS, AMD x64 Platform - Solaris Enterprise System Virtual Machine for VMware (Solaris 10 11/06) 3.0". I've d/l the virtual appliance for vmware one can find from there : http://developers.sun.com/solaris/downloads/solaris_apps/index.jsp#vmware
    I encountered 2 problems :
    The first was the network (netcard) wasn't recognised at all. It's strange because the settings should be the same for every vmware virtual machines. It may be because I'm running the latest version from vmware (10.0.2). The default option was NAT, and I tried the others as well. All other systems I'm using with vmware are working correctly, including the opensolaris "Nexenta".
    The second one was with the screen resolution, it was excessively huge, around 2800 x 2000. I couldn't change it in the gnome desktop (the option had no effect). I managed to change it by altering the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. The same was for the keyboard settings, I couldn't switch to azerty (french) keyboard. I had to change it in xorg.conf file.

    im new to vmware too, but just wan to share my experience with you.
    5.5.1 vmware workstation with vmtool installed.
    - my NIC still define as pcn0, encountered packet drop network issue
    - dtlogin doesn't work properly with my screen resulation, mouse work fine without pressing ctrl+alt key to get out from vmware
    6.0 vmware workstation with vmtool installed.
    - no more packet drop issue, especially when i ssh from pc to vmware.
    - gdm fit to screen, GUI work fine.
    - my shared folder working now, mount as /hgfs.

    Yes.  Technically there will not be any conflict as long as the private addresses used by the 2 clusters do not collide, and provided that the switch's port capacity and bandwidth will not be exceeded.
    Your NA (netadmin) can also configure the switch to separate the 2 Interconnects from one another (called partitioning when using Infiniband) - if the switch supports such features.
    A major consideration is not to make the switch, public. That typically cause a range of problems and can have a serious impact on an Interconnect. But using 2 private networks on the same infrastructure should not have the same problems - if configured and implemented correctly.

  • Remote deployment switches for Jabber 9.2.2

    Are there any installation switches for remote install via the MSI/DMG?
    I will be pushing this backage via Dell KACE K1000 appliance and would like to configure default options for the users during the install/upgrade such as Disabling (or 'unchecked' following initial sign-on) the Docked Window, configuring Phone Accounts, WebEx Meeting and application Integration settings.

    application integrations setting mostly get pushed out through  the profiles on CUPS that get pushed out as soon as the user logs in.
    I can't help you out with all the switches you asked for but, you can starting using:
    msiexec.exe /i "\\lsrftufs1\ict\Networks\Voice\Jabber\Jabber 9.2.2\CiscoJabberSetup.msi" TYPE=CUP DOMAIN=somedomain.com.au LANGUAGE=1033
    This will at least use auto discovery of the presence server if you use an SRV record  _cup._login.somedomain.com.au
    so at least your useers wont have to type in a presence server name or IP.
