Check Backup with Database Studio

Hi there,
I have a question about recover_check with the Database Studio.
We have a SAP MaxDB 7.7.04.28 and use the Database Studio 7.7.07.12.
We use Networker as external backuptool.
The backup seems to be ok, in the log file and in the history the external backup state is available and the external backup id is displayed and I can find this in the log file u201CHave updated external backup history successfullyu201D.
When I try to check the database backup with Database Studio, I choose the backup from history, but I get an error message: u201CAn external backup id is needed, but not suppliedu201D.
When I look on the Tab Data Carriers the Parameter External Backup ID isnu2019t filled.
What can I do to check the Backup with the Database Studio?

Hmm... with my 7.9er DB Studio this works with external backups as well...
Anyhow - there are certain features that are not fully implemented/supported until DB Studio >=7.8....
So maybe you need to use DBMGUI a while longer...
Do you have the checkbox "Show information for external backup tools" on your backup history screen?

Problem with database-Studio

We use MaxDB for our SAP Systems and for our own applications(none SAP)
We upgradet our none-SAP Database from 7.7 to 7.8.02.21.
Then we tried the new Database Studio.
With problems!?
We have a schema BWALLE and a user BWPROGI.
When connecting to the database with SQL-Studio as BWPROGI we can see the schema BWALLE and all our tables.
When connecting to the database with Database Studio as BWPROGI we can't see the schema BWALLE and we can't see our tables??!!
We see 2 users BWPROGI and DBABW(the administrator).
Under BWPROGI there are no schemas!??
Under DBABW there are schemas(dbabw,domain,sysinfo) and all the tables/views belonging to these schemas.
What do we miss???
Why can we access our tables/views/indexes with SQL-Studio and not with Database-Studio.
Any help welcomed

Some more informations:
We have a group BWALLE nouser BWALLE.
The owner of the Schema BWALLE is the group.
The user BWPROGI is member of the Group BWALLE.
When connecting with SQL Studio as BWPROGI we see the schema BWALLE and all tables in the schema.
When connecting with MAXDB Maestro as BWPROGI we see the schema BWALLE and all tables.
When connecting with Database Studio as BWPROGI we can't see the schema BWALLE and don't see any table.
Connecting with SQL-Studio as BWPROGI shows the tables in schema BWALLE and we can read,update,... the data,
but with MAXDB 7.8 we get an error when doubleclicking on a table to look at the table structure.
With MAXDB Maestro everything works as expected.

System Backup with database open

Is is possible to perform a system backup with the database opened, just left the f:\Oracle folder out of the system backup?

The database it's in noarchivelog mode.
My customer wants to:
1) export the database;
2) perform a system backup with the database open;
The issue here is if it is possible to backup the system without disturbing the database functionality. Because if we do a system backup with the database opened, the database will stop.
So if I just left the f:\Oracle folder out of the system backup, will the database continue on working well?
We have already tried to left the folders
- F:\Oracle\Oradata\db_name
- F:\Oracle\Ora10g\dbs
- F:\Oracle\Ora10g\database
Out of the system backup, but the database always stop and it is necessary human intervention to start it up again.

Error trying to create first database with Database Studio on MaxDB 7.7

After installing the Database Studio 7.7 and starting up, i tried to create a first (local) database following the procedure documented in the online manual:
Under the heading of "Servers" an entry "<Local>" was created.
Then i used the right mouse button to "Create Database...".
A popup window appears with:
Database Server <Local>
Database Name MAXDB
Login Information for Server (user/password) grayed out.
Then doing "Next >" generates the following error:
No installation available on server '<Local>'.
Remark: installation went without problems.
Any help is appreciated greatly.

a silly question just to clarify the issue: Do you have a MaxDB Installation on your PC where Database Studio was installed?
What does the Event Log tell you about the issue?
See Window->Show View->Event Log Viewer
or if not listed there
Window->Show View->Other ...->Database Studio->Event Log Viewer

Use of Database Studio Community Edition with SAP applications

I am using SAP ECC6.0 on MaxDB 7.6.04.012 running on Linux x86_64.
For database admin, and adhoc sql queries, I am currently using Database Studio 7.7.04.26, running on Windows XP.
I have had one or two issues with Database Studio, and I've been looking for a more recent version to Install.
There seems to be a more recent version in the Community Editions download area, but this says:
"This package is not for use with SAP applications. For that purpose, refer to the Download Area in the Service Marketplace"
I have not been able to find Database Studio as a separate download in the SSM Download area.
What is the reason for this comment about the Community Edition? Can I use this version of Database Studio? and if not, where can I get the equivalent for SAP applications?

I installed MaxDM (32bit) and MaxDB Studio which I can open. And I habe also a connection to Max DB but I can´t see any application for examle. How can I find these applications. I hope there are one!?
Have you checked the documentation Demo Data for the SQL Tutorial ?
There is a demo schema available for MaxDB: the HOTEL schema.
It can be loaded to any MaxDB by running:
load_tutorial
in dbmcli or via the context-menu (right-mouse-button) menu in DB Studio -> "Load Tutorial..."
After the tutorial is loaded you can logon via user "MONA" and password "RED".

Does Database Studio work for anyone else on windows 64 bit?

I followed the instructions to get Database Studio (http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/MaxDB/HowTo-Installationofa32-bitDatabaseStudioona64-bit+server). After installing the 32 bit version of the jre, and starting the dbstudio executable using the 32 bit JRE, it appears the GUI elements of Database Studio are not working properly. In text boxes, you can't see what you're typing. Window outlines are still visible after resizing. I'm unable to start the "Administration" task. You cannot see the sql query as you're typing it in. The program seems unstable in general. I've tried to reinstall the entire package twice, and it seems to not help.
Anyone else experience this? I'm running windows 7. I've tried the 7.6 and 7.7 versions of Database Studio.

Unfortunately I have no solution, but the same problems with Database Studio 7.8. I installed the Java SDK 6 64 Bit + DB Studio 7.8 64 Bit. Everything seems to be working, but although I have full write access to the config files (my first problem was that I wasn't allowed to write to \sapdb\data\app\dbstd) I can't add new connections:

we drive a 2 node DAG (Location1-Ex1-mb1
Location2-exc1-mb1), on SP2 RU4 patchlevel with 40 Databases.

The affected Database is active on Location2-Exc1-Mb1 Server and in an overall healthy state. I found during my research, that below Location2-Exc1-Mb1 Server, there are not removed shadow copies present!
This confuses me, since all Backups are normally taken from the passive copy of a Database.
So my questions to the board are:
* Does anyone is facing similar issues?
* Can someone explain why snapshots are present on the Mailboxserver hosting the Active Database, whilst the errors are logged on the passive one?
-          * Does someone know the conditions, why shadows copies remain and
aren´t removed in a proper manner?
What can cause the circumstance, that only 1 DB is facing such issues?
Any suggestion is welcome!

Hi Lenora,
I´ve encreases VSS / Exchange Backup Log levels to expert, before starting
those things i´ve all tried now:
- Backup from passive DB (forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
- Backup from active DB (forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
- Backup from passive DB without GRT enabled (forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
- Backup from active DB without GRT enabled(forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
All those attempts failed.
But brought some more details - the backup against the active DB states, that there is still a backup in progress and therefore this backup is cancelled by VSS.
The Solution was, that i´ve needed to restart the Exchange Replication Service on the Mailbox Server hosting the passive DB.
Backups are working again on all DBs!

Hi, i have a oracle database called orcl (10.2). I am trying to connect with this database with visual studio 2005. I do this:
In Server Explorer, right click in Data Connection and click in add connection.
I choose oracle database and oracle provider.
In server name I write the name of my computer, and i write the user and pass of the data base (sys or system) but it gives me this error: "ora-12514 listener doesnt know the asket for service in the description one of connection" (translated of Spanish)
what i have to write in server name? host, host:port, LISTENER,.... what?

Sounds like you may need to re-download the entire albums from iTunes. See this KB article for how to download past purchases: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519.
I'd suggest doing it one album at a time. Delete one, download it from your purchase histor, then the next, etc.

Does this following command just check for corruption , or is it actually trying to backup the datafiles to the disks ?

Dynamically automating all database backups with known filenames.

I need to know the name of the full database backup, so I can restore to another server. I came up with this basic script for backing up (script 1) but I want to do this dynamically, and began to play with cursors, which did not go so well. The second script
seems to create an infinite loop or some nasty Cartesian. If anyone can point me in a direction to getting my peanut butter to mix with my chocolate I'd appreciate it.
FWIW, the end goals are to know the db name and do this in a dynamic way so anytime a db is dropped or added we do not have to remember to update backup jobs. Up till now maintenance plans worked, but now we want to know the backup name so we can restore
db's to a preprod environment. Any suggestions/guidance/links would be appreciated.

we have got error in TSM . so that i am getting error .
Prod server backup is working automated through TSM .
now i need to take Online backup with out using TSM like DEV and QA (Manual backup) .
For DEV and QA server backup is manual . i am simply moved the tape to tape library and fired the online backup as well same QA also .
Now my query is reqiured to take backup with out the help of TSM in PROD server . Is it possible ?
2 profiles are configured for Online backup and offline backup .

I have initialised the Tape IRPB01 , after i have try to tkae backup , i got below error .
