Check Email on iPad locks other devices

When I check email on my iPad 2 (POP3), it causes errors on other devices. For example.  I can go to email on my iPad and it checks all my POP3 accounts (I have 5 or so of them).  If I then go to my Windows laptop and go to Outlook and do a Send/Receive, I get error messages on all my email accounts. The error indicates that "only one can log in at a time". This indicates to me that the iPad logged on to check email, but did not log off.  Our Email server is using MailEnable.  This clears up after a few minutes, but it's very annoying.  Is there a way for me to fix this, or is this an iPad bug?

You don't need to do a reset.
When you check your Mail on your iPad it logs in to your accounts. But when you stop using the Mail app on your iPad it doesn't actually quit for a while. So Mail continues to be logged in to your accounts. I see this all the time on my iPad. There are two ways to avoid the issue.
First give the Mail app time to actually close down and log out. Also make sure that you do not have Mail set to periodically Fetch emails. Go to Settings > Mail > Fetch and set it to Fetch Manually.
Second, if you know that you will be using your computer to check for email or you might want to use a webmail site to check for email, close Mail manually. Here's how to do that,
Double click the Home button. This exposes the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap on one of the apps until they all begin to wiggle and display a minus sign. Tap on the minus sign on the Mail app and then tap anywhere above that row of recently used apps to return the screen to normal. You should then be able to log into you Mail account from your computer or via a webmail site.

    I have tried reseting the network settings and forgetting my wireless connection and re-connecting to it. I even backed up my phone on itunes and restored it, factory reseted it. Nothing seems to work.
    Also after my upgrade to ios 8.1 my personal hotspot option under cellular data has disappeared.
    Would you please help me out? I would really appreciate it.

    To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone (if you're using iOS 7), then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

    My AppleID and password stopped working.  I was able to reset it.  My iTunes account seems to work on my desktop.  Why aren't my iPad and other devices able to sign on?

       It is probably caused by notification for update of Ipad operating system. There may conflict between newer IOS version on desktop and older one on Ipad at the mean time if you want to access by similar account. Otherwise, you need to set up again your account at setting panel. I used to have the same problem for first days logging on Apple store or others applications required user name and password. I bought my Ipad at an Apple store and it was configured with original profile. I had to adjust and it runs very well now. Good luck !

  • Is there a way to use iMessage but not have the texts sync to my iPad or other devices, just stay on my iPhone?

    I don't like when things from my phone sync to my iPad or iPod, so I am wondering if there is a way to keep the texts on my phone and off of everything else.  I share my iPad with others and don't want to be in the middle of a conversation when all of a sudden it just appears while someone else is using the iPad.  In addition, I don't want the messages to syn to the computer when I plug my phone in, as I also share the computer with others.  This has kept me from using iMessage because of how iCloud works, but maybe I just don't have a good understanding of how they work and someone can clear it up for me.  Thanks.

    I don't even see the iMessage option on my iPad anywhere. Maybe it needs to be updated?
    Does this have anything to do with iCloud or just iMessage?

  • HT3951 iTunes failed to download to iPad - no other device

    I purchased an audio book - this has been paid for. But there was a problem with the download. I am not able to resume download as iTunes does not recognise a purchase has been made. There is no copy in iCloud. I have tried to go back to the book in iTunes but it says 'purchase' or preview. Advice would be helpful!

    Audiobooks are currently a one-time only download, so if it didn't download successfully to the Music app, and it's not in the Downloads tab in the iTunes store app for resuming, then you will need to contact iTunes Support to get a re-download.
    By 'no other device' do you mean that you haven't got a computer to do 'report a problem' from your purchase history ? If you have a computer : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account (Store > View My Apple ID on iTunes 11) and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that audiobook and use the 'Report a Problem' link and fill in details about the problem (iTunes support should reply within, I think, about 24 hours).
    If you don't have a computer (or if the above 'report a problem' doesn't work, which for some people it doesn't appear to, it takes them to this site on a browser instead of showing a form in iTunes), then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purhcases, Billing & Redemption

  • I can't access or send email through Thunderbird any longer (over a month) though I have checked settings and can access/send email via webmail and other device

    My cable provider changed (buy out or something) about a year ago but left my email address alone.
    Confirmed with the current carrier that my incoming/outgoing settings are correct and my email address doesn't need to be migrated.
    When I click "Get Mail," nothing happens: no error message. It has been like this for a month.
    I can check webmail, but it doesn't have my older emails or folders. I would love to get back on and spit everything out of Thunderbird. I did an internet search (including this forum) but haven't found anything useful.

  • Mail settings disabled email on all my other devices

    I'll try to keep this set-up brief.
    I purchased a new MacBook pro this past Friday.  After nearly 24 hours of trying to get anything to migrate from my iMac, I finally gave up and decided I just had to set everything up manually again.
    The migration problems might be part of what's causing my current situation so I guess I should detail them a little.  First I was forced to upgrade my iMac to Mavericks, THEN I was forced to upgrade my new MacBook to the latest version of Mavericks before I could start.  The problem was, every time the migration would start, within a few minutes my iMac would spontaneously reboot leaving my MacBook hanging.  I ran the gamut of tests on the iMac - disk utility, memtest, searching for bad sectors, etc… all came up blank.
    After giving up, the first thing I set up was mail.  Luckily I know all my mail settings and it seemed to go smoothly, which was good because that was the first thing that did go smoothly for me.
    After getting a few items going on the MacBook, I decided I'd try migration one last time.  This final time it appears to have moved a few items before the iMac shut down again.  I suspect that's the cause of my problems.
    I have six email accounts with roadrunner.  Today, the four accounts that are mine, the ones that I recreated on my MacBook, only work on the MacBook.  On my iMac they all have little triangles by them which contain the message "this account is in use on another device."  On my iPhone I get popups with the same message, and on my iPad I don't get complaints, I simply don't get any mail.
    In addition, in the Mail program on my new MacBook, the one mail program that still works, several really old messages that I believe I'd archived on the iMac have shown up, which tells me something must have migrated on that last attempt.
    I'm really not sure what to do at this point.  I need my accounts to work everywhere, not just on the new MacBook!

    Not unless the modem is causing a problem.
    What you want to do is get it to work reliably over Ethernet first, then tackle wifi. Power off the modem. On your macbook, delete the Ethernet configuration and the Wifi configuration. Power up the modem, then connect the mac via Ethernet. Create the new Ethernet configuration and see if you can connect.

I have an iPhone and iPad and MacBook and when I check email on one of the devices the same email shows up on the other devices so I was wondering if there was any way that I can check my email one time and not have to delete it from my other devices.

    It's not how pop3 works. Sorry.
    A pretty easy fix is to use a gmail account as your pop3 client and setup gmail on your devices as an exchange server or an imap server. Then gmail pulls your email into gmail and you get your mail from google. Then you won't have to change your email address to get imap support.
