I have a Toshiba Satellite C875 with windows 8. I am getting and error of a check media fail and no bootable device. How do I fix this problam so that I can get my laptop working again.

Yes Aman.. This happened after cloning in apps.
However, issue got resolved.
Data files were zipped using tar- cvzf ...
I could successfully complete the cloning when backup is taken with "tar cvf" (with out including z)
So, learnt that datafiles should not be zipped when tar.
But datafiles can be zipped using gzip after " tar cvf " is completed.
Am i right ?

I run the following SQL and DB is recovered but I can't keep doing this everytime it crashes:

sqlplus>alter database recover;
sqlplus> alter database open;
Any ideas how can I resolve this problem.

Media failure was detected at time/line number

Version: Oracle 10g
Recently, this error kept popping up on my EM Alert - "Media failure was detected at time/line number". In the EM, it says Critical.
I looked at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16240_01/doc/doc.102/e16282/oracle_database_help/oracle_database_alertlogstatus_mediafailureerrors.html and it says no user action required.
Anyone guidance on what should I check or if I should be doing anything?

Definitely investigate further. I checked the link you posted and indeed I had to read it about 3 times before I understood what it was saying.
Get onto the database server and search your alert log (bdump directory) if none 11g for media errors and then determine what needs to be done. Hard to say more until you know what the problem is.
If you needed to test the datafiles then run dbverify (dbv) or my preferred option which ius to export the full database to a file which causes every block to be read or if you do not have a lot of space just pipe it out to /dev/null but ensure you create a logfile.

Satellite C855-1TD starts with message "Checking media [Fail]"

Okay, My Toshiba laptop has suddenly refused to work and will not start up. When it loads past the initial toshiba loading screen, a black screen appears saying "Checking media [fail]" I've tried everything that I have seen online that does not include opening up my laptop. It does not let me acess the Bios and I have tried every combination available.
My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite C855-1TD and runs on windows 8.1 software.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Usually you should be able to access the BIOS pressing the F2 button while booting up the unit.
I cannot say for sure but it looks to me like serious hardware malfunction if you are not able to access the BIOS.
Such serious hardware problem might be related to motherboard problems as well as RAM modules.
In case you are able to access the BIOS, check if the HDD is still visible on the first BIOS page.
If HDD isnt visible, then the notebook cannot find a proper bootable device and therefore the error Checking media fail appears.

Sounds like the CD drive died. Luckily they cost next to nothing to replace. Or get an external LaCie instead. I have a dual G4 1.25 and the CD drive was always so anemic I use a LaCie Porsche with it.

Adobe Premiere Elements 12: Add Media Failure: The Importer Reported a Generic Error

I am trying to add a MOV file to PE 12 I and keep recieving and Add Media Failure Error stating "The Importer Reported a Generic Error". I have added other MOV files without any issue so I don't know why some MOV will work and others won't. The only common characteristic I've found is that the MOV files that won't work are files that were recorded with my SLR camera. The location of the files I've added/tried adding are on my external hard drive.

Try importing a few of the problematic files from a Local Disc C location like Videos and determine if problem presists. How is the external hard drive formatted, NTFS or FAT32?
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements 12? And, on what computer operating system is Premiere Elements 12 running? Are you running QuickTime and Premiere Elements 12 as Run As Administrator and/or from a User Account with Administrative Privileges?
What specifically is the video compression for the problematic files? And, what is the brand/model/settings for the camera that is recording these videos?

Need help from the gurus.
Currently we are in state unable to do anything.
Was using a database and all of a sudden it crashed. Tried to mount the database, open it, it failed. Also tried the recover and alter database open, even that failed. Errors are as follows.
Errors in file e:\oracle\product\10.2.0 \admin\devrevdb\bdump\devrevdb_p000_2620.trc:
ORA-00603: ORACLE server session terminated by fatal error
ORA-01242: data file suffered media failure: database in NOARCHIVELOG mode
ORA-00449: background process 'DBW0' unexpectedly terminated with error 1242

In my spfile, the administrator has set only two control files and there is no mirroring and hence do not have another control file that will help me boot the db.
Please let me know how I should go about it. I am only a timebeing person trying to carryout a db activity. Any help would be of great help.

I tried the way you suggested and it threw an error.

I searched and found that an additional tag of drop needs to be added to the command which you suggested.
ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE '<filename>' OFFLINE DROP.
i don't know what will the drop command have an effect ?
i have copied the data file to another location. Since i don't know much, i just want to be sure of what im doing.
if the above command is successfull, will it drop the datafile or the tablespace and i can no more use it. How can i use the copied datafile.

Hi,
since you don't have a backup, and you have a media failure, you cannot recover.
You can set the tablespace/datafile in question offline, and work with whatever is left in the remaining datafiles. (i.e. export/import elsewhere)
if the file is just corrupted, and not lost,
you may be able to get some of the data back using oracles data unloader, but that is going to be expensive (i.e. you would need to engage oracle consulting to do it for you)
i strongly recommend you get familiar with the rman tool next time around, this is quite capable of performing backup and recovery.

Problema al iniciar Lenovo B50-30 Checking media...

Hace tiempo que tengo este Lenovo B50-30 (80ES) que me venía con Windows 8. Lo pasé a Windows 7 de 32bits, lo cual tuve que volver a cambiarlo por el de 64 bits esta mañana. El error viene cuando después de pasarlo al formato de 64 bits que era el indicado, al terminar el formateo todo normal, el fallo comenzó cuando empecé a instalar los Controladores, al intentar instalar "BIOS Update Utility exe" (O al menos pienso que este pudo ser el último que intenté instalar antes del fallo) La cuestión es que la aplicación me pedía que no utilizara la batería para ejecutarla y que conectase el cargador. Hecho esto, comenzó a instalarse hasta que me apareció una pantalla negra con unas letras en rojo, tras cargarse por completo, lo siguiente que apareció fué:
El logo de Lenovo y después una pantalla negra que dice"Checking Media..." Tras esto, una ventana azul que dice:
"Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed.
Insert recovery media and hit any key
then select "boot manager" to choose a new boot device or to boot recovery media"
Seguido de la opción [OK], al presionar me lleva a un página de fondo blanco que pone "BOOT MANAGER" debajo; Boot option Menu y solo a poder elegir una opción: "EFI PXE NETWORK", pulso Select y: de nuevo "Checking media..." Solo que ahora en una ventanita azul dice:
"EFI network 0 for IPv4 (F0-76-1C-19-33-D5) boot failed, Y después este mensaje se repite si sigo presionando [OK]
Llegué a deducir por lo de IPv4 que necesitaría conexión a internet, por lo que cunecté el cable al ordenador y esto solo cambió la respuesta del cuadro, supongo que dando otro fallo, pero ninguna otra opción que no sean las que ya he dicho.
La cuestión segun he leido parece fácil de solucionar, pero mi verdadero problema recae en que no puedo acceder a la BIOS de ninguna de las maneras. Mi portatil no tiene ese botón para acceder a la BIOS, supongo que hay que hacerlo mediante F12, aunque los he probado todos, y al salir el Logotipo de Lenovo intento acceder a la BIOS y no me deja.
No sabría deciros si instalé el controlador de la Bios, si era el controlador propio de la Bios el que me ha dado este fallo, no sé. No estan todos los Drivers instalados, ya que este era de los 3 primero que me descargué por orden de la página y me salió el fallo este que no me deja acceder a Windows.
La verdad es que estoy un poco desquiciado con este error, asique agradecería muchiiisimo una ayudita. Y aunque no se supiera solución, otra duda es que si podría Re-formatearlo para solucionar el problema. La cuestión es esa, que no puedo Acceder a la BIOS y no se siquiera si lo podré formatear.

Para el caso 2 en el que que modificas la BIOS a legacy el disco duro aparece para el orden de arranque, con esta configuración Windows no carga normalmente verdad? mismo mensaje mostrador desde un inicio, recomendable en la pestaña exit verificar que en las preferencias de sistema operativo, este para Windows 7 en el caso de no estar este parámetro colocar en otros.
Si con esto persiste el mensaje problema, intenta arrancar el instalador de Windows 7 y verificar si el disco duro, para intentar verificar si es que el problema es debido a error en el arranque de Windows o de plano no tienes ningún sistema en disco que arrancar.

There won't be since you are in PRE Editor. The option I mentioned is in Organizer. If your import is failing in PRE, you will get the best advise on http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere_elements.

Lost .ARC and media failure on UNDOTBS01 and datafile

I have media failure in UNDOTBS01.DBF and .dbf datafile.
Database is 9.2 on windows 2003 server in archiving mode but have lost some .ARC file too.
I have a export of schema EXPLZHPRDBF in good state.
I think to drop user EXPLZHPRDBF , re-create schema and impot from .dmp file but when
go to drop user have some error. I have re-create new UNDOTBS02 undo tablespace, and
ALTER SYSTEM SET undo_tablespace='UNDOTBS2' scope=BOTH;
then startup database but have this problem.

In case of missing archived files you can not recover your undo tablespace. It's always a good practice to define more than one destination for your archived log files so in case you lose a file at one destination it could be recoverd from another arc destination. There might be some uncommited information present on your lost undo file that required to be rolled back.
If you have an export file available then it's better you create a new database and import your data in the new database. In case of doing import, you are going to lose data that was inserted/updated or deleted after you took the export dump.

I can't burn music, or get pass checking media

Sadly I've tried everything I know to get iTunes to burn a CD. I get the
playlist all set up, adjust the preferences, click on burn, then it opens
the CD tray, I put a blank CD-R in, then iTunes says it’s ‘Checking Media’
which it does for a few seconds, then it just stops - no error message or
anything. The little window that says ‘checking media’ just goes back to the
apple symbol and nothing happens. Any others ideas as to what i should do.
I'm just hoping that i'm not the only one with this issue. Thanks

What are you trying to achieve? Are you trying to burn to disk via the iPhoto Share ➙ Burn menu? That produces a mini library on the disk that can be used only by a Mac running iPhoto.
If you want to burn just some image files to a data CD/DVD disk then follow Larry's recommended workflow.
What disk type and manufacturer are your using? What system and iPhoto version are you running? Have you run the OS X Mountain Lion: Use Apple Hardware Test? When did the burning proiblem begin? If you can't burn a disk from the Finder then it's a hardware or system problem and not an iPhoto one.
