Check out TopLink integration with JDeveloper 10g

I just thought you might want to get a look at the upcoming integration of TopLink and Oracle JDeveloper 10g.
You can download the JDeveloper 10g preview now and play with it.
See demo: http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/viewlets/905p_adf_toplink/toplinkEditor_viewlet_swf.html
and follow the tutorial:
http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/collateral/prodtour10g.html

John,
"1) When I did this last step, it created a new set of 'Offline Database Objects'. It would be nice not to have to redirect the new classes at my original objects or create a new diagram from the new objects. (I would like to bae able to get rid of one set of Database Objects.)"Currently, you are running into the issue since you already have offline tables that you are using to create online tables. You then are creating Java objects from online tables. Each time you create Java Objects from online tables, offline tables are created and cached with the project; the generator is not smart to recognize whether these tables exist offline.
That's a great suggestion and we already have this under consideration for future release. What you are asking is the ability to generate Java Objects from offline tables.
2) The Database Objects that were created when I generated the classes all have the schema name prepended. My original Database Objects have the 'package' prepended. I would like my Java classes to map to unqualified tablenames.Another great suggestion; we have already taken this into consideration for this release.
Also, can I model sequences for my tables and have those automatically generated along with the tables and constraints? You can always create a SEQUENCE table offline or online (on the database; see connections tab) in Jdeveloper and then use it in the TopLink mapping editor with your data model. Let me know if you need more info on it.
Is there a place I can modify the default datatype to java type mappings? For example, what if I would prefer my classes to be generated with BigDecimal attributes instead of Double? Yet another great suggestion, we will keep it in mind for future release.

  • How to create Application Workspace with Jdeveloper 10g 1.3.2?

    Following the instructions in "Developing and Using ADF Faces Skins", I am trying to create an Application Workspace.
    The instruction says: "In JDeveloper, create a new Application workspace and name it - ADFFaces_skin_sample"
    I can not find the way to create Application workspace with Jdeveloper 10g 1.3.2.
    Because when I click FILE==>New I got "New Gallery--Application" in left, in right only got "Application, Empty project, File, Java Class, Java Interface". There is no "workspace" item.
    I try to use Jdeveloper 10g 1.3.1, got same result.
    I found other ADF Skin training samples. All of them asked to create Application Workspace. But the Jdeveloper version used by all those samples were earlier than 10g 10.1.3.2
    Please let know how to create "Application Workspace"?

    What used to be "Application Workspace" in 10.1.2 is "Application" in 10.1.3.2

  • CCX7.0 Database Integration with Oracle 10g through ODBC

    Good Day…
    We are up to integrate CCX7.0 with Oracle 10g, CCX7.0 documents show the way to integrate the CCX7.0 with SQL server, but mention nothing about Oracle 10g, anyway...
    I tried to check the ODBC options, there were many options, I tried to select any Oracle related choice, just to find out Oracle should supply the driver for it. In the forums, people say it’s an Oracle Client, but what will this client do? Am I going to connect though it to the oracle database server or is it going to query the database to my CCX server? What am I going to use in this case, user DSN or system DSN?
    If there any tips or recommendations I will be grateful, as it is my first database integration.
    Thanks
    AT

    Hi Aaron
    Thanks Aaron for the information, and yes you are right, I am not a database person.
    I have here some questions, sorry if some of them sounds silly
    1)       Is there a certain Oracle Client version? or and Oracle Client will work for me?
    2)       Do you recommend system DSN on user DSN?
    3)       “…. available to any device on the system” as you said in your reply, what do you mean by "device" and "system"? Sorry, but this will help to clear the picture to me
    4)       What will this Oracle Client exactly do? Is it going to build an SQL table on my CCX server that query the information from the Oracle Server?
    5)       My customer has already implemented database integration with IPCC3.5, how can I check the current configuration of the Oracle Client, and what things else should I check before proceeding with the integration?
    The reason I want to understand this because there is a lot of database integration is requested from us, the CCX scripts can be used to query data from SQL tables, I read a lot about this –waiting for the implementation phase- the lucky me, the first integration I faces is with Oracle.
    Anyway, who said learning is easy.
    Thanks Aaron for your time, waiting your answers.

  • CVS Integration with JDeveloper 10.1.2

    I have upgraded to JDeveloper 10.1.2 from the previous version and CVS integration appears to be partially broken.
    All my source files are checked in and I can confirm this with WinCVS which allows me to 'cvs edit' my source for update. In JDeveloper however the 'Edit' option is grayed out and I cannot edit the file as it is read only. All the source icons have a * symbol against them.
    CVS integration worked OK in the previous version and the only environment change is the upgrade to JDeveloper 10.1.2
    I wondered if anyone else had experienced any similar problems.
    Thanks,
    Kim

    We have also experienced this problem. The pattern seems to stem from a Module Checkout (We use the connections tab to a remote pserver repository).
    Expanding a project will mark all files with the * (modified) symbol. Even though we only just checked out the module.
    If we try and Update (or Update with deletion) the item remains on the uncommitted files list, however the background cvs command worked without error (at this point there is no way of removing files from the uncommitted file list).
    Additionally if we use ANT and create a new task like follows;
    <target name="CVS fake update MyProject quiet">
    <cvs command="-n update -R"
    cvsRoot="${cvsroot}"
    package="MyProject"
    />
    </target>
    Then this reports all workfiles up to date with the repository (i.e. only a problem in what JDeveloper thinks is uncommited).
    What I have noticed....
    When the Module Checkout works I noticed the file named JDev under the CVS working folder looks as follows;
    #Fri Apr 01 06:33:52 GMT 2005
    universal_time_calibration=0
    When it fails the content looks like this;
    #Fri Apr 15 06:33:52 GMT 2005
    universal_time_calibration=-3600000
    (I suspect at some point it is getting this offset from my Windows settings - Australia GMT + 10hrs).
    By fail I mean
    Hope this information is of use to someone at Oracle.

  • Integration with JDeveloper?

    Hello,
    My team is evaluating the possibility of using ODI in one of our projects, but at first sight it shows that this is not a product that Oracle developed from scratch (which doesn't mean it's bad!). My only concern is that the terminology (and the UI in general) does not seem to be very intuitive for an Oracle developer, which might not help to reduce the learning curve.
    Do you know if there are any plans for integrating ODI with JDeveloper?
    Thanks!
    Pablo

    There should be more chances to find in the future ODI in Oracle JDev than in Eclipse.

    This situation really needs a proper Content Management System (CMS): Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, Expression Engine all come to mind.
    She's a content contributor, you're the system admin. She needs a bulletproof browser-based editing environment to do her thing without worrying about anything else.
    Down the track, she'll probably want repeat content that she can control on different pages, content expiry, scheduled content, categories, tags, sidebars, headlines: all standard CMS features.
    Using Dreamweaver and Check In/Check Out is just going to create one issue after another.
    The current solution was probably adequate in the past but it's reaching the limits of its scalability. It's really time for a new solution.
    Have you considered a CMS?

  • Using dynamic ViewLinks with JDeveloper 10g

    Hello.
    I'm displaing a list of data from tab1 with a sublist of data from tab2, which has a n:m cardinality relationship.
    Attributes:
    k1 - primary key of tab1
    k2 - primary key of tab2
    fk1 - foreign key of tab1 in rel
    fk2 - foreign key of tab2 in rel
    Before data iteration I create dynamic link using createViewLinkBetweenViewObjects(...) method of my ApplicationModule. I use assocClause parameter to define the way of the data association, e.g.:
    select <attrs> from tab2 where k2 in (select fk2 from rel where fk1=:1)Parameter :1 is replaced with k1 from tab1.
    This works fine, but whern I use parameter :1 more times in query, the JBO-27122 (SQL error during statement preparation. Statement: ...) is reported. I have used it with JDeveloper 9i and it worked properly.
    Thanks for any help

  • RCFaces integration with JDeveloper?

    Hi gang
    Before I go nuts trying to get this to work, has anybody successfully installed and used RCFaces components with JDeveloper 10.1.3.1 ADF Faces components?
    Regards,
    CM.

    Hi Frank
    Errors appear to be in JDev 10.1.3.1. I'm playing with a list of 3rd party JSF vendor component sets looking for a more "Windows" like multi-level menu component that can be populated from a backing bean as my customers don't want the BLAF <af:page> component.
    I'm having a fair amount of trouble across the board in loading and running with the 3rd party component sets in JDev. I'm able to embed the components in the JSF source with JDev correctly showing the list of components in the Components Palette (though this is flaky and doesn't always show), and the attributes of the components in the Property Palette.
    On compiling the JSF page with the 3rd party vendor's components I often receive error messages similar to the following (this example using Exadel's components):
    Error: Unable to instantiate tag: vcp:panel (class: com.exadel.vcp.taglib.PanelTag) Make sure that the tag class is available and that the tag library containing the class is not excluded from this application.
    Error: Unable to find class for bean: null defined by tag with class: com.exadel.vcp.taglib.PanelTag
    For the record I have configured my web.xml file as detailed by the Exadel install instructions.
    I'm no expert on JAR files and tag libraries, but the majority of JSF component vendors have released a single JAR of components for the likes of Sun's Studio Creator, Eclipse etc, so I would be expecting the JAR & components to integrate easily into JDev too without throwing the above errors.
    Also configuring 3rd party libraries via JDev's managed library facility appears to choke in number of places similar to this forum post:
    problem with adding Sun JSF RI v1.2 as a new library in JDeveloper 10.1.3.1
    With RCFaces components embedded in the JSF page, after restarting JDev, I've had JDev internally throw exceptions such as:
    java.lang.NullPointerException
    at oracle.bali.xml.model.XmlContext._initializeViewIfNecessary(XmlContext.java:1871)
    at oracle.bali.xml.model.XmlContext.getView(XmlContext.java:844)
    at oracle.bali.xml.gui.GuiXmlContext.getGui(GuiXmlContext.java:154)
    at oracle.bali.xml.gui.GuiXmlContextUtils.getGui(GuiXmlContextUtils.java:22)
    ...and so on...
    If I remove the RCFaces component, the errors go away. In this case I'd expect JDeveloper to show a graceful error message, not the exception. However you are right, the RCFaces documentation leaves something to be desired.
    Hope this helps. Let me know if you'd like more info.
    Regards,
    CM.

  • Integration of JDeveloper 10G (UIX) with Crystal Reports 10

    My problem here is a conflict between the Oracle xml parser library (xmlparserv2.jar ) and the Crystal Reports 10 xml parser library (xmlParserAPIs.jar).
    The Oracle library is included in my project library list by default. If I add in the Crystal Reports jar file, this seems to cover up the Oracle library and my application failes to launch with a missing class file.
    (uix: java.lang.ClassCastException: oracle.xml.jaxp.JXSAXParserFactory)
    If I leave out the Crystal Reports library, then my JSP that launches the report I want to see fails on a missing class file (document.class).
    Is there a way for these libraries to co-exist in a UIX application?
    I did manage to get my integration to work in a non-UIX test using the Oracle HR sample database.
    Thanks for taking a look at this.
    Best Regards, Steve

    To answer my own question. I did not include the Crystal Reports xml parser library as part of my uix project. This allows the uix application to launch and work successfully.
    I then added all of the Crystal Reports libraries to the oc4j preferences under current workspace.
    This seems to somehow get around the conflict and supplies the needed libraries for the methods invoked in my jsp page.
    Since this jsp page is getting called from a UIX page, I have no idea how this change makes these libraries available without a conflict. If someone can explain it, I would appreciate it.
    Thanks very much, Steve

  • Reports Integration with Jdeveloper

    Reports integration has been in and out of Jdeveloper over the last few versions.
    Is there a posted statement of direction on when and how integration will happen?
    (My hopes are up because the OTN product pages are now talking about Reports 10G)

    Hello Thomas,
    The Reports JDeveloper Extension are currently available only in the Oracle9i Developer Suite (Oracle9iDS) that contains:
    - Reports Builder 9.0.2
    - JDeveloper 9.0.2
    The Reports Extension will be also available with the Oracle Developer Suite 10g.

  • Problems with Toplink integration with JTS and WSAD

    We have a very strange problem.
    Description:
         We are attempting to integrate with JTS, insuring that TopLink does its transactional activity within the scope of a JTS transaction, as described in the Foundation Library Guide.
         We have a stateless session bean, a method of which implements a simple "insert" on a database table registerObject() on a unit of work). This bean is configured to use bean-managed transactions, but with a default resolver of rollback.
         The bean is launched in the WSAD test environment.
         When the bean method is invoked from the WSAD Universal Test Client (web app that runs in the same app server allowing discovery and unit test of bean methods), the code works. A row is inserted into the table, etc.
         Same code, same method, same (stateless) bean, same instance of the WSAD test environment, if the bean method is invoked from outside the application server (via a JUnit test driver that discovers the session bean via JNDI), the code breaks. The final JTS commit catches a javax.transaction.RollbackException, apparently without any sort of stack trace tacked to the exception printStackTrace() doesn't result in anything). No row is inserted.
         We can call the bean alternately, via these two approaches, under the same instance of test environment, and get different behavior.
         We don't understand. All (hopefully) of the relevant details follow.
    We are using:
         WSAD Version: 5.0.1 Build id: 20030423_1316
         TopLink - 9.0.3.3 (Build 430)
         Oracle 9i
    From our sessions.xml:
         <login>
              <driver-class>oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver</driver-class>
              <datasource>project</datasource>
              <platform-class>oracle.toplink.internal.databaseaccess.OraclePlatform</platform-class>
              <uses-external-connection-pool>true</uses-external-connection-pool>
              <uses-external-transaction-controller>true</uses-external-transaction-controller>
         </login>
         <external-transaction-controller-class>oracle.toplink.jts.was.JTSExternalTransactionController_5_0</external-transaction-controller-class>
    From our project XML:
         <uses-external-connection-pooling>true</uses-external-connection-pooling>
         <uses-external-transaction-controller>true</uses-external-transaction-controller>
    The code that breaks:
         SessionManager sm = SessionManager.getManager();
         Server ss = (Server) sm.getSession("project", TestBean.class.getClassLoader());
         ClientSession cs = ss.acquireClientSession();
         Context c = new InitialContext();
         UserTransaction t = (UserTransaction) c.lookup("java:comp/UserTransaction");
         t.begin();
         UnitOfWork u = ss.getActiveUnitOfWork();
         u.registerObject(value);
         u.commit();
         t.commit(); /* this throws javax.transaction.RollbackException */
    Thanks.

    Strange problem, could be a Websphere issue, or an issue with the JTSExternalTransactionController_5_0.
    Try configuring TopLink to not use JTS and see if the same problem still occurs. Also turn on TopLink logging and exception logging and your Websphere server logging to see if you can get the real exception and stack that is causing the RollbackException.
    This could be an issue with the JTSExternalTransactionController_5_0 as the original version of the controller did have a JTS issue. Make sure you are no the latest patch and check with support to see if they have a patch for this problem.
