"Check spelling" problems

When I do a "check spelling" using CS4 it tells me that there should be a capitalized letter on the beginning of each line of text.
The text is set flush left.
Is there anyway to smarten up the check spelling function?
Example:
When I do a "check spelling" using CS4 it tells
me that there should be a capitalized letter on
the beginning of each line of text. The text is set
flush left. Is there anyway to smarten up the check spelling function?
It tells me that that there should be a cap for the m on "me", a cap on the t in "the", a cap for the f in "flush."
If it matters, I'm using a Mac Pro, OS 10.6.4. Illustrator CS4.
Thanks

Thanks Monika
I tried your suggestion. Held down shift and hit return. Didn't work.
I'm not too sure what you mean by "And use Return to go to the next paragraph of your poem(?)."
But thanks for the poem bit.
I do know about the suggestion from OldBob1957.
I used to use Freehand (the good old days). Don't recall having this sort of problem. Freehand also let you just spell check
what ever text you highlighted, not all the text on the page.
Guess I'll have to fire up an old Mac and see if I'm right about Freehand.

  • CS3 Check Spelling dialog problem

There seems to be a bug with the Dialog box for Check Spelling.
If you right click on the blue bar at the top of the dialog and choose Minimize or Maximize. The dialog box will always keep that setting.
I have not been able to find a way to Restore the original size of this dialog.
Anyone have an idea on how to set the Check Spelling... dialog box back to original size?

I am trying to not have to reset the Applications preferences.
Right now I have a some what of a solution.
I move the Spelling Service.rpln from the Required folder to the desktop.
    Start InCopy. Close InCopy.
Put the plugin back and start InCopy. The only preference I see that I have to change is the Keyboard Shortcuts.
    I am running 5.0.3

  • DW CS3 Check Spelling Issue

Back ground: I have a long IT career but have never really done any web dev before.  This is my first real stab at building a website so this may be a 101 coding error but I had a heck of a time figuring it out so I thought I'd share incase another newbie had a similar issue.
After creating 1,164+ pages for my website, which has not yet been uploaded, I was doing a round of pre-upload spelling, code validations and link checks but could not get check spelling to work, no matter what I did it just wouldn’t highlight on the text dropdown menu nor could I use the keyboard short cut to initiate it. The pages were saved as .htm which is functionally the same as .html. I tried saving a test page as .html but is made no difference.
All other fesatures worked and the code was recognised, previewing in a browser was fine, no problems there but I still couldn't check spelling in DW CS3.
I knew it would be something stupid on my part… well I was right.  This must have happened when setting up the first page for the site, and was experimenting until I got it to look right and feel that way I wanted, I saved it and have used it at the ‘authoritative source’ or ‘template’ for all pages created.  First I created the template from it I created a template for each of the major sections of the site.  From them I have created all 1,164+ pages to date...
I’ve sent this problem to every webhead that I know … I’ve even took it to work and had a couple guys there look at it.  No one had any idea, I think it’s because it was so simple everyone had looked right past it. I finally did a bit-by-bit comparison with another test site that spl chk worked on and even then I missed it because I was ignoring the automatically generated stuff up at the top.
At the very top of the code:
    <!DOCTYPE htmPUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
    It is supposed to be:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
    <html lang="en">
At the bottom of the code:
    </htm>
    It is supposed to be:
    </html>
Even though you can save this page as a ‘.htm’ file, the HTML notations have to be included.   Take them out and guess what:  ‘check spelling’ disappears. Why spelling does that but everything else still works… who knows, but it does!
I’ve already made the correction to all pages.  Now I can forgo checking all 1,164 pages by hand (or cut-n-past into word) and now I can get the spelling, validation and link checks done so I can do the initial upload for this site.
(I really wish you could check all "text" spelling for the site and spelling corrections as you type were offered... I did put in a request)
    So WOOO HOO!

I'm not sure about what you mean but i do know that if you
run the installation from your hard drive you don't need a disk or
you could get the CS4 trial from Adobe.com and install with the key
    that came with CS4.

  • Check spelling with foreign words

I am using InDesign CS4 to create documents which mix foreign words and phrases in standard US English. The problem is that when I use Check Spelling, it flags as misspelled many properly-spelled non-English words.
When these suspect words have accents, clicking the Ignore All or Add buttons does absolutely nothing. Every instance of the accented suspect word is flagged throughout the document.
Is there some simple way for me to add accented words to my user dictionary? I've read the Adobe Help doc for Check Spelling and it's no help whatsoever.

Why the heck I can't just Ignore All or Add an accented word to my user dictionary with a single click is beyond me.
I would guess that it's because the folks who are in charge of adding features to InDesign didn't figure that anyone was going to need a one-click way to do this. As a language-industry pro I am somewhat horrified that you overtly want to pollute your dictionary with words from multiple languages... but hey, this is your project and your working environment, so it's your call. That being said, I can think of a few potential workarounds:
    1) Adding a keyboard shortcut for Edit -> Spelling -> User Dictionary.  That way, once your word is highlighted, you only need to enter two keystrokes - one for your shortcut, then Enter to add the highlighted word.
    2) If you were to upgrade to a later version of InDesign, you might be able to use Adobe Configurator to create a custom panel that would have a single button to add a word to a user dictionary. Unfortunately, it seems that it's not available for CS4.
    3) Put in a feature request, and wait.

  • How do I uncheck "Check spelling while typing" forever?

Hi, when writing in some applications such as text edit it automatically does a spelling check and underlines the words that are not spelled correctly with red. And every time I write something I uncheck this, because I type in both English, Swedish, slang... Etc. I just don't want this function. But then when I quit the application and restarts it, this option is checked once again. I can't seem to get it to be unchecked forever. I JUST DON'T WANT THIS FUNCTION!
    Any help would be appreciated.

I disabled this as well, and it stays disabled. If you went to TextEdit->Preferences and unchecked the "Check spelling as you type" and also "Check grammar with spelling" then closed the preference, the plist file should be altered. After you have done this, check the plist file:
    /Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/com.apple.TextEdit.plist
It should show "Date Modified" as being the time when you do the alteration. Also, you might do a GetInfo on the file and see what the Sharing&Permissions say. They should be
    yourname=Read & Write
    everyone=No Access
If all that is true but it still isn't working, you could try tossing the plist file, relaunch TextEdit, and reset the preferences. A new plist file should be created.
Finally, I have seen cases where people having File Vault active have problems with plists not functioning correctly, and being reset to default behaviors after shutdown and restart.

  • Check spelling as you type + pasted text.

With the "Check spelling as you type" enabled, if you were to copy some text from another window / application and paste into a "new message" window, the spell checker does not check it.
Originally this was not a problem as pressing "Command + ;" (semi-colon) would search forward for the errors - but this does not seem to work in Mail v2.
The only solution I have found so far is to press "Alt + Right Arrow" to move between the words.

PS: Yes I know about the spell checker window... but I cant get along with it (don't know why).

Look at this a little more, it seems that the
Edit > Spelling > Check Spelling
menu item is disabled... I presume this needs to be enabled for it to work like it used to (skip to the next word which is incorrectly spelt)

  • Be good: check spelling

We're seeing people search for things in Dreamweaver Help --
simple things -- and coming up empty-handed. There are lots of
reasons for this, one of them being the new google search engine
that powers Web Help searches and the new Community Help.
    The
Dreamweaver team blog is going to maintain a running list of
topics that google has trouble delivering for whatever reason.
    Here's the first big one:
    SPELL CHECK
We see that you've had a hard time finding the basic spell
check documentation in Dreamweaver. The reason for it is because
the command is actually called "Check Spelling" and so the
documentation refers to it as such. If you search for "check
spelling," the documentation should come up right away in Community
Help or in product Web Help; but because of google relevance
matching, things like "spell check," "spell checker," and "spelling
check" have not been working adequately. We're trying to adjust
this so that it works better. In the meantime, you can get to the
    topic here:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Dreamweaver/10.0_Using/WSc78c5058ca073340dcda9110b1f693f21-7cc 8a.html

I'm having the same problem. I can't see any pattern to the
files without spell checker and those that have it. This is really
pretty important as I depend on a good spell checker. I checked the
problem files with my Dreamweaver MX and no problem. Its just an
    issue with CS3.

  • Check spelling

OK, I give, when I go to Commands>Check Spelling in DW CS5 nothing seems to happen. The command is not greyed-out. I have tried deliberately putting in a misspelled word, but to no avail. Is there a preference to set or some condition to meet before the Check Spelling function will activate?

  • Cannot turn-off Auto Correction and leave Check Spelling On

For some reason, when you turn off Auto correction- (keyboard settings) it also turns off check spelling.
Hope thesre is a fix for this.

I wish I knew the answer to that and many other questions. We are all just other iPad users like you trying to help each other sort through any problems that may arise. Frankly, I would love to be able to turn off auto correct and keep spell check on just like you. The only recourse we have right now is to offer our feedback to Apple about it and you can do that by clicking on this...

  • Check spelling while typing feature (in iCal) disables itself continuously

    Hi there,
We use the iCal regularly to do write-ups for each appointment everyday. The past month or so I've noticed that everyday that I go into iCal, I have to re-check off the "Check spelling while typing" preference. Every day, I check it and then for some reason, it goes back to "correct spelling automatically" by some sort of possible default. We've never had that problem before.
Any ideas on a fix for this?
    Thanks!
    ~Natalie

    ~Natalie,
If you are referring to the Calendar>Edit>"Show Spelling and Grammar" pane, you may also want to check your System Preferences...>Keyboard>Text>"Correct spelling automatically" setting.

  • Even though the 'check spelling when i type' is selected in options, my Firefox isn't doing it and I don't know how to fix it. Help?

This isn't a new problem. This has happened with all the versions of firefox I have downloaded. I'm using 3.6.12 version now but it hasn't made a difference

Not all locales come with a dictionary installed due to licensing reasons.<br />
If you do not have the en-US locale then check that you have a dictionary installed (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and selected.
You can see which dictionary is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the Languages submenu.<br />
You can open the "Add Dictionaries" link to install a dictionary if you do not have one.<br />
Make sure that [X] "Check Spelling" in the right-click context menu has a tick.

  • No Mail spellcheck dictionary for "Check Spelling When I Click Send" option

Since installing 10.6 and 10.6.1, there are no correct spelling options for my misspelled words when I click on send. Instead, the spellcheck window opens up and says it can't find the dictionary. Yes, the Mail Composing Preference is set on "Check spelling when I click send". My friends who have updated to 10.6 and 10.6.1 are also having the same problem. Any ideas on how to fix the problem? Thanks.

Open System Preferences ->Language & Text and click on the "Text" pane. What does it say there for "Spelling"?
I've found that sometimes if I leave it on "Automatic" it doesn't seem to give suggestions, but if I select a dictionary, say "U.S. English", I do.

  • 'Check Spelling While Typing' does not work for any applications

Earlier I had a problem with misspelled words underlined but when I right-click it does not offer spelling suggestions.
Now, none of my applications underline misspelled words. Even if I select the option to "Check Spelling While Typing" it does not change anything. This applies to all applications (Mail, TextEdit, EverNote, Firefox, etc).

Update: Inexplicably the underline for misspelled words now works but now when I right-click for corrections it shows 'No Guesses Found' for any word.

  • IOS 7 'Check Spelling' red underlining disappears even if the word isn't corrected

In previous versions of iOS if a user misspelled a word and 'check spelling' was enabled in the settings menu, the misspelled word would be underlined in red and remain underlined in red until it was corrected or the message was sent.  It appears that in iOS 7 the message editor will underline it in red initially and then it disappears once you start typing the next word.  Is this a known issue?

Stollerd, I am experiencing same issue and I just spoke to Apple. They did not seem to have known about it, but now they do. They did read this thread and other threads while I had them on the phone. They did not have any solution at this time, but I asked them to make sure that the problem is recorded and escalated.
Just for the info: if they ask you to do some troubleshooting steps on your phone when you call in to report this issue - there is no reason to do that, because there is nothing that is wrong with your phone; the problem lies within the iOS7 and not your phone. I have access to many brand new phone units and I did some testing; no reason for you to repeat the same. If they want to try something out, they can do it with their own phones and find out the results.
