Check This iWeb Site Out!

Good afternoon fellow iWeb users,
I transfered my portfolio website into iWeb that I originally created using Dreamweaver. Although I found iWeb to be more constrictive than Dreamweaver, I did enjoy the simplicity of iWeb. Having knowledge of the html script language allowed me to transfer my Dreamweaver site over to an iWeb site flawlessly.

Good evening Gjmnz,
First, I would like to thank you for the compliment.
Second, here is the step by step directions to add the .pdf file for download into your site:
1. Put the .pdf file you want to add to your iWeb site on to your desktop.
2. Select that .pdf file and in the upper menu (or finder bar) go to File and then select "Compress”.
3. On your desktop a new file will appear named your.pdffilename.zip.
4. Go into iWeb to the page on which you would like people to be able to download the .pdf zip file you just created.
5. If you have an image and want people to be able to download the file by clicking that image: select the image, open the inspector and go to the link section, select enable as a hyperlink, in "link to" there's a teardown menu where you select "a file" and select the .pdf zip file you just created.
If you want to have people to click on text follow exactly the same steps but instead of selecting an image select text for making a hyperlink.
6. That's it, you're done! When you publish your changes the .pdf zip file will be published too. You don't have to do anything else, and you can delete the .pdf zip file from your desktop.
Third, yes I have a visitor counter on my contact page.
I hope this helps you out. Good luck.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Apple didn't include web storage on iCloud. There are other web hostings (Blogspot, GoDaddy, etc.)

  • Request: Please Critique This iWeb Site

Hello all! I'm hoping you can take a few minutes and look at a site I've created in iWeb. It's about 80 percent complete, so you will see some issues such as missing text, pink text, a few missing pictures, etc. The entire "Give and Support" section is still being written.
I'd really appreciate feedback from this community because I've relied heavily upon you and this message board to build this site. Your past discussions have been awesome resources.
It's for a place called Mt. Irenaeus, which is a Catholic Franciscan Retreat located in Western New York. It's run by a great group of Franciscan friars and I'm trying to help them communicate with a larger audience. Most of the people who know about this great place are graduates of a nearby university. For more objective details, read The New York Times profile in the Mountain Media section.
    A few notes:
-- I use MassReplaceIt for a variety of tasks, including changing the link colors. However, within the last three weeks, that code has stopped replacing and I've been left with Apple's default colors. Can anyone help?
-- Plan to add comments to the blog section once I receive more blog entries and as we get closer to launch in the next few weeks. It appears that Haloscan is the best option?
-- The embedded Google Calendar works only sometimes on Safari. Works fine on my PC. Any ideas?
-- I can't seem to get the RSS feed for the blog to save properly in my RSS reader. It ends up titled as "MyBlog."
    Here's the site:
    http://www.mounti.com/Mount_Irenaeus/home.html
The URL will change when it goes live; everything is in a test folder right now. Pages will move the root address when live.
In addition to the questions above, what do you think of the overall presentation? Content? What other iWeb gems can be added? As total strangers, does this site help communicate what the place is about?
    Thanks again, all.

In your website, in order to protect your content, you have this notice: "Copyright 2007, Mount Irenaeus Franciscan Mountain Retreat". But in the two "Mountain Chronicle" videos it appears that you are using a copyrighted soundtrack by Ennio Morricone from the film "The Mission". ...I say "appears" because I don't know for sure - I suggest you determine what the music is and check whether you can legally use it.
For works created in circumstances of employment or works known as “works for hire” (as is Morricone's composition) the term of copyright is 95 years from the date the work was first published. ...If the copyright owner were to discover your use of his work, you would probably receive an attorney's "cease and desist" order.
For more information about copyright, consult the following guide - which applies to websites aswell as podcasts...

  • Computer stolen, can I get my iweb sites sent to my iweb account on new PC?

My computer was stolen and I have since replaced it. However, I have several live iweb sites out there today that I'd like to get back and be able to update/modify. I believe these are housed on mac's server and my .mac account hasn't changed. Can I get these websites somehow re-posted to my current iweb 09 account on my Macbook??
    Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Unfortunately, iWeb cannot read published web site files, only create them. Unless you have a backup copy of the domain.sites2 file that resided in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder you'll have to rebuild the sites from scratch. However, Chapter 2.3 of this iWeb FAQ site has tips on using some of the published files in the reconstruction of the site.

Have published iweb site for five years with no problems and just opened a new site and get -
    404: Page not found
This error is generated when there was no web page with the name you specified at the web site.-
    Troubleshooting suggestions:
Ensure the page you are linking to exists in the correct folder.
Check your file name for case sensitivity . Index.htm is not the same as index.htm!
Temporarily disable any rewrite rules by renaming your .htaccess file if it exists
    is the problem with
    iweb or with hosting?
One Apple tech started to fix Iweb and had to end session and the next said problem with hosting at Network Solutions as it published
to local folder. NWS has checked sttting a few times-
Any help would be extremely appreciated as trying to fix this for about five weeks
    Thanks VG

It's a really bad idea to post your email address - it's an invitation to spam - and I've asked the Hosts to remove it. (Even though I've now noticed you mis-spelled it! - anyway, never post your address in a forum.)
You have a site here: http://virginiagordon.com/www.virginiagordon.com/WELCOME.html
If that's not the page you are having trouble with, what is that page's URL?

I like and use Top Sites but it has become unsuable with this constant blacking out and reloading the thumbnails.  My MBP has not seen a problem at all.
I have been searching every other day for over a month trying to find a fix in Windows Safari with no joy.  I want to resolve, not switch browsers. Please offer up a solution that only refreshes the Top Site thumbnails once a day or as some controlable interval.  Started about two versions ago, now on ver 5.1.5. Windows 7 64bit.
    Safari 5.1.5 for Win64 bit, Windows 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I solved the wifi connection problem, just by switching off completely the router! sounds trivial, but in this case it worked!!!
the funny behaviour of the trackpad/cursor still persists. any suggestion???
    thanks again

  • I want people to be able to download videos from my iweb site. New to this...how can I do this?

I made an iweb site but used "gallery" for videos that people could download. Now "gallery" is going to disappear but I want people still to be able to download my videos if I choose. I thought I would put this option on my iweb site but don't know how to do it? Any suggestions.

Create a zip of your movie files - Finder/File/Compress - and upload them to a folder on the server.
Create a text or image hyperlink to each one and the file will download when clicked...

I'd like to publish an iWeb site within my iCloud account.  How do I do this please?

To publish your website you need to choose a hosting service. Here are some some pointers about what to look for...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Website-Hosting.html
Most hosting services will also offer you at least on free domain name registration.
Since you are using iWeb '08 you will need to publish to a local folder and upload the files using an FTP application...

After renaming my MAC hard drive, Acrobat, Illustrator and Bridge fail to launch. Acrobat returns the error message "An internal error occurred". I've checked this out and it seems related to user permissions. The version is Acrobat X. My machine has multiple user accounts. Any help would be appreciated. I renamed the drive to its original name but to no effect. RR

    I resolved the issue.
The problem is indeed a permissions issue with the Adobe Application Support folder.
First, in MAC OS Lion the ~/Library/ folder is hidden by default. You must unhide it in order to proceed. (if it is already visible in your ~/User/ folder, proceed to Step 4.)
    Next launch the Terminal application.
At the command line, paste the following command line: chflags nohidden ~/Library/
    Go to /Users/youruserid/Library/Application Support/Adobe
Get info on the ~/Adobe folder and reset your permissions to read/write and apply to all enclosed folders
    Problem solved. RR

lol, yeah I heard great things aobut that video, but didn't get it yet. I am still weeding through the great Apple Pro Series books, and I am concentrating right now on getting the right sound out of my guitar and voice, since i am far enough in logic to be able to do that first. I think sometimes we lose focus in getting to know everything a tool can do, v/s composing and concentrating on the music and the sound.
I'm hoping to post something to the other thread on forum music after this weekend, where I'll have the time to record with my new Rode K2 and my new Focusrite ISA 220. I have no more excuses to not get it right.

  • Hey guys check this out!!

I though that Tiger was only able to run in apples pcs I guess not....this is crazy.
Check this out http://os-emulation.net/pearpc/web/tiger.html I have never seen this before Have you guys?

PearPC is a Mac emulator. It creates a virtual Mac on the Windows box, similar to (but the opposite of) Microsoft's Virtual PC for Mac.
I'd guess it's slow and unreliable, but certainly possible.

HTT x4 , i try`d les aggressive timings and lower HTT but 255 is the max with 3.3 vdimm, unless i get a booster they wont go further.... not worth it, might as well get a Gig of something that can match these speed ands timings.... Well thats what im hoping anyway.

I have purposely been ignoring your responses to my posts about the heat issues in the newer design iMacs, but if you want really want to ague the point...
First, the iMac is marketed as a desktop model Mac. Not a laptop or MacBook.
I have never owned a MacBook, so I can't attest to how much heat the MacBooks generate.
I Have two iMac models. A 2009, 27 inch screen iMac for myself. And a 2010, 21.5 inch screen iMac for my Fiancée.
As a desktop Mac these are hottest running desktop Macs I have ever owned. Period. I owned two beige Macs, a pre-G3 tower, aG3 desktop, a G4 MDD Tower, the original iMac, eMac, iMac G4 and now my current iMacs.
None of my previous Macs have ever, EVER ran this hot. I have never, also, had any component failures in any of the previous Macs I have owned, either. All of my Macs have been upgraded or modded to some degree over the years.  About 2 years ago I had to press my old G3 back into service. Both my G3 and G4 models have been heavily modded. The G3 ran without issue for a close friend for over a year until that friend went out a got a Mac Mini.
That's a 1996-97 Mac my friend. And it still is in working order and hasn't had any failures.
The fact I am pointing out here is that heat is an enemy to electronic components.
Whether desktop iMac or MacBooks, tightly packed enclosures of heat generating computer components with fans that do not run fast enough at most times to cool off the interior or exterior, will and does slow roast computer components to premature failure.
I do not know how frequent component failure is in the MacBook line up. So I can't attest to those.
I do not participate in those forums.
This is why at some point in computer history, Super Conputers were liquid cooled. PowerMac G5 systems were liquid cooled because they ran too hot!
I have taken my own precautions to keep my iMacs' heat down as much as possible.
I don't  have the money to keep buying a new Mac every 3-5 years when some catastrophic failure happens.
I had to purchase my iMacs used as I couldn't afford the cost of a new iMac with the specs I needed.
My idea, your idea and Apple's idea of acceptable operating temps we can argue all day long.
I feel, personally, that the operating temps are too high and exacerbate operational issues.
I Have been participating in these particular iMac forums for just over a year and have seen plenty of posts of iMac component failures due to both heat and dust, dirt issues from within the iMac.
There can be no other reason for all of these failures. The SuperDrive is, usually, the first to go bad.
It's probably due more to its vertical mounting, but the excessive interior heat isn't helping it.
Next to fail is the GPU. The last to fail, but the most expensive to fix, the Logic Board.
I Have seen plenty of posts in my last year here of all of these failures in iMac less than 5 years old and ,perhaps, a little older. 2008 model iMacs seem to have their issues, too!
Apple is focusing too much on design and aesthetics, rather than longevity of their products, I feel now.
A Mac isn't going to last 7- 10 years anymore.
I don't have stats and numbers. Just common sense.
This is my story and I am sticking to it. For what it's worth.
