"Check Video Cable" Message on HP 2311x (different issue than original post by jca93)

Hello,
Monitor Status displays:
MONITOR STATUS
DVI: No Signal
HDMI: No Signal
VGA: Active
Auto-Switch Source: Off
Default Source: VGA
Recommended Settings: 1920 x 1080 - 60 Hz
I only have VGA cables, so I do not use DVI or HDMI to connect monitor to computer. I was configuring the On-Screen Display (OSD) when I accidently went into Source Control Options and changed the video source from VGA to HDMI (or DVI, whichever one is placed directly above VGA).
By default, auto-switch should be on, but I turned it off a month prior. Computer is not affected, only monitor. I have tried to access the Source Control Options, but the OSD does not pop up.
My question is: is it possible to fix this issue, error without purchasing the other 2 types of cables? Is it possible to open up the OSD?
Help from an HP Expert or the community will be much appreciated. If you need me to provide more information, I will be happy to comply.
This question was solved.
View Solution.

Please try performing a hard reset on your 2311x monitor;
1. Disconnect the power cord from the monitor.
2. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds.
3. Plug the power cord back into pc.
This should clear your current video source issue and your OSD issue by returning the settings to factory.
Please send KUDOs

  • HP 2311x - Can't access menu at all & screen shows "Check video Cable" message.

I've got an HP 2311x hooked up to a Mac Mini running OSX 10.6
My monitor has a black screen and is displaying the "Check video Cable" message and I am completely unable to access the on screen menu.  Pressing the menu button has no effect and does not bring up the on screen interface.
I have tried connecting the monitor using HDMI, HDMI->DVI, and mini-display-port->DVI.  Same results on each.
My monitor had been working fine for the past two months.  When I first hooked it up the auto detection screen would pop up every few minutes while my computer was asleep so I went into the menu and disabled the auto detection and set the monitor to DVI only.
I unhooked my monitor for a few days to rearrange my office and when I plugged it back in it no longer detected any signal on the DVI input and I can't access the on screen menu to change the setting back to auto detection.  I have tried to perform a hardware reset by unplugging the power cable and holding down the power button for 60 seconds, but that also doesn't work.
    Any ideas?

I have two of these monitors connected to a MacPro. Last night one of them started behaving this way after a power outage. I found I had to connect it to the computer via VGA and then do a factory reset from the monitor's menu.
HP led me to believe that I could do a factory reset by disconnecting the cable and holding the power button for 20 seconds. Apparently that doesn't work for this one.

  • Slow GDM - different issues than other posts

    Hi all,
GDM is slow to start (compare to what it use to be) the issue is I can't pin point why, as I have made a lot of updates lately including moving to Grub2 and changing quite a few .pacnew today (I know I should do it right away...)
I seems however to be an issue with the nvidia driver (see below xorg.0.log for more information)
FYI I run dual screen with twinview
    Many thanks for your assistance,
    Regards,

    "monitor going to sleep"
I have tried four different monitors with two different cables, 2 keyboards, and 2 mouses or mice whichever is correct.
Video is on board, so I tried installing a new video card in my PCI-E x 16 expansion slot.  I can't disable the on board due to not having video.  I was hopeful that the new one would over ride the on board.
I've tried as many of the trouble shooting ideas available on the HP website.  I don't have video, so I can't try them all.
I did try resetting the BIOS using the directions that were included even if you couldn't see anything on the monitor.
    Any suggestions?

What type of connection? DVI? Are you sure it is a onboard graphics Card? Most monitor failure is the result of power supply you might want to try that.

  • Restore file to a different folder than original?

Hi I work with a lot of password protected word documents (can't be viewed in quick look)... and often want to look at the changes that are made with previous versions. Is there a way to be able to restore time machine backups to a different folder so it doesnt overwrite the current version

    Yes, you can!
While in the TM interface, just choose the file(s) that you want to restore to a different location, click on the Gear Icon and choose "Copy ...". Then come out of the TM browser by clicking Cancel or pressing Esc key and browse over to the destination folder in the Finer. Right click and choose "Paste ...". This will restore the file from your chosen backup to this folder.

  • How to download app updates from different account than original app purcha

I have a collection of apps on my iPhone that I bought through my original iTunes account, then later I signed up for a second account (because I was confused and I didn't know what I was doing) so my more recent apps were bought through that second account. I really would like to close the older account because I have no use for two separate accounts.
But here's the problem: when I update an app, iTunes remembers what account I originally bought it under and asks me to sign in to that account. So if I close the older account I will no longer be able to update any apps that I purchased under that account. Is there a way I can fix it so that I can close the old account but still be able to update those other apps?

    No.
You will need to use both accounts to update your apps unless you repurchase them on the new account.

  • X230 won't wake up from hibernation-- different issue from x1 post

only got my x230 last week, the same problem has happened twice.
I put my laptop into hibernation mode, when I turned it back on, it led to a black screen. it seems like it's running (with the green light for the wifi and power being on) and when i clicked on the space bar, it makes a noise
but nothing happened even after 10 minutes.-- the screen stays black.
the first time i did a hard shut down and when i restarted, i run into some kind of window update errors
is it a defect item? can i get it exchange?

So, do I understand that you want to physically remove the hard drive to retreive your files?
What is the model number of your computer?  HP might have a document for your model  that gives detailed instructions for removing the hard drive.

  • Samsung monitor/"check signal cable" msg

Been using this monitor for about a year and a half, connecting it to my Mac Mini with a Mini Display Port to VGA adapter.  All of a sudden, I get the "check signal cable" message.  I replaced the VGA cable; no luck.  Then I replaced the adapter; still no luck.  The Mini runs fine; I can access it over my network using my laptop.  Anybody got any suggestions?  Thanks.

Reset the SMC > Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
    3. Wait fifteen seconds.
    4. Attach the computer's power cord.
    5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
and then the NVRAM / PRAM > About NVRAM and PRAM
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.
Then it doesn't work, test the monitor with another computer and/or test another monitor with the Mac Mini.

  • "check signal cable" screen saver

I was enjoying my Mac-Mini with a third party monitor, that seemed to work well together, but the only problem with it was that the OSD always came up. So I bought a new monitor (LG E1940). I've first tested it with the previous monitors VGA cable, and as soon I connected the monitor with that cable, the typical "check signal cable" message disappeared, regardless the cable other ends was not yet connected. Regardless the monitor proved to be working with the Mac-Mini.
When I replaced with the slim one that is shipped with (because the other is a bulky cable, and the manufacturer made the connector stick right out in to the wall) the "check signal cable" message still present, after I plugged both end of the cable. At first I was surprised, and despite the message, I booted up the system, and the monitor works. But every time, the system does not sends any signal, the "check signal cable" message comes up.
Then I checked it on my (non-apple) laptop, and right after I connected both ends of the cable, one in the laptop, the "check signal cable" went away.
I'm using a mini-DVI to VGA adapter shipped with my Mac (for the Mac), and I'm suspecting that it is a defect in that adapter. Or this is the normal behavior?

Does the Mac mini (Late 2009) supports the VESA Display Power Management Signaling (I learned about it right now,) through the mini-DVI to VGA adapter?

  • Apple TV worked until today. Message says unsupported signal check your output device.  I have checked hdmi cable with another device and it's fine. Put on a different tv and same message.  Went out yesterday and bought a new Apple TV and same problem.

    Which TV do you have.
You may wish to try the following:
Press and hold the menu and the up button simultaneously on the remote for six seconds, the Apple TV should then begin to cycle through the various resolutions available to it at 20 second intervals.. If you see a picture appear up on your screen, use the remote to scroll down to the OK option and select it.

  • 3rd party video cable "Not designed for iPhone" message

Ok i got the original Apple Component Video Cable...works fine and everything...i went to a friends (he has the 3GS) house and we are going to use my iPhone 4 to watch NetFlix on the big screen...he has a RocketFish brand(looks a lot better than Apple ones)...i hooked it up and says "not designed for iPhone" but works perfectly and even better picture quality...
So Why do we get a message like that were its pretty much the same cable just different brand? Is there like a chip inside that says original apple product or something?

you know i wonder the same thing im guessing that its the pin layout that does it and not a chip but thats my guess...
