Check your book carefully after upgrading!

I have a book that I started in iPhoto '09 and now upgraded to iPhoto '11 and I had to go through it page by page after I noticed a few things were changed...
- in a few spots, photo were swapped. I noticed this because captions underneath a few photos didn't match the photo anymore
- fonts in a few spots went back to the default, rather than the custom font I picked.
The font thing is a much larger issue though. iPhoto doesn't seem to handle fonts the same way anymore. Instead of using a set font for different elements which can be changed in a dialog box (like a style sheet), you can now change the font settings on a per-element basis. Now this opens up more options for customization, which is good, but also makes it a major pain if you want different fonts and to have it all match throughout the book - it actually makes more work.

this is strictly a user to user forum and speculation about Apple decisions or release dates is expressly prohibited by the TOU
We can only help you with how to use the program as it sits
I wish I could go back to iPhoto 9!
Easy - load your backup of the iPhoto '09 library and reinstall iPhoto '09 from the original disks - reinstall iPhoto - go to your receipts folder ("Your hard drive" ==> library ==> receipts) and remove any iPhoto receipts and reinstall from the restore disks that came with your computer - do a custom install of bundled software only

  • Check your SBRS Scores after upgrading to 8.5.6-092!

I upgraded my ESA from 8.5.6-073 to 8.5.6-092 on the 26th September.
Today I noticed a lot of malicious e-mails coming through our IronPort and when I checked the message tracking logs I saw the message:
    SBRS Score: unable to retrieve
Phoned support and they told me to run a 'repengstatus' command to see when the last update for the repuation engine was. My last update was on the 26th September... coincidence?
I ran a 'repengupdate force' command which forced the update (wait around 10 minutes) and now the engine has been updated; e-mails now have SBRS scores.
There are two reasons why I made this discussion post:
    1. If you ran an upgrade to 8.5.6-092, please check that your SBRS scores and rep engine is being updated because your IronPort could be letting a lot of spam/malicious e-mails through.
    2. To support - why did this happen? I'm thinking the upgrade caused the issue because I updated on 26th and last update of rep engine was on the 26th but this could just be a coincidence (I've never experienced SBRS score failures).

This was a defect covered in the 8.5.6-093 release:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/security/esa/esa8-5-6/ESA_8-5-6_HP1_Release_Notes.pdf
So, if running the -074 revision... found defect:
    https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCuq49620
I wouldn't say that running repengupdate force is not suppose to be done, aside from a formal request... is odd to see or hear that would have been mentioned.  With the force updates for any of the processes on the ESA, this is usually always a good troubleshooting step for any customer --- as the process will instantly call out to the updater servers, compare manifests, and then pull regardless of what is running the latest engine and rules sets for the process... and then silently implement in the background.  While for the customers who might have bandwidth limiting options running on their network, the only major side effect is the package size that is coming across... since the engine is tagged into the rules...
But, normally with antivirus and antispam - this is the most helpful to run antivirusupdate force or antispamupdate ironport force.  Especially in times where the update process itself may have been interrupted with a network related hiccup or staled out download.

  • Photos don't display on book pages after upgrading to 9.4.2

I have several books I created in version 9.4.1. After upgrading to iPhoto 9.4.2, most of the pictures will not display on the book pages. Only 1 photo displays out of 3 or 4 photos on the page. Is there a setting that has changed? Using Mountain Lion 10.8.2 on MacBookPro10,1

Did you duplicate the existing book or create a new empty book and add the same photos?
Have you tried rebuilding your library as follows: make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Address Book & Subscriptions after upgrade

Before upgrading I had 400 contacts in my address book. And was subscribed to someone else's address book that had 1,500 contacts. After upgrading the address book I subscribed to was gone and my address book now has 1900 contacts. I went into time machine but all my contacts pre upgrade are gone. Any ideas of how to get my old address book back with out having to go through and pick out the 1,500 contacts I don't want in my own address book?

So after spending 3 hours on the phone with apple care this morning I got the issue on my computer resolved - hopefully this will help you. Joe, the guy I was speaking with was a great help and stuck it out with me till we got it fixed.
The problem seems to be with mobile me and the sync services file. Here is what I did that hopefully will work for you:
    1. Create a "Test" user account.
    2. In that user account login to mobile me and sync your contacts. I had my 500 contacts download and the 1500 I was subscribed to.
    3. Sign out of mobile me in the Test account. After I did this the extra 1500 users disappeared. You may need to quit and restart address book.
    4. Now that I had my own 500 contacts, I went to "File > Export... > Address Book Archive". It creates an '.abbu' file on your desktop.
    5. Move the .abbu file to your main user account.
    6. Switch back over to your main user account.
    7. Go to Mobile Me in system preferences and sign out (doing this in my main account did NOT remove the extra 1500 contacts)
    8. I went to "File > Import..." and choose the .abbu file I just made with my good 500 contacts.
    9. A dialogue window will you if your sure you want to replace all the info in address book - yes you do.
    10. Quit and reopen address book and presto! my 500 contacts were back and the 1500 I subscribed to were gone.
    11. Restart your computer for good measure and the re-enable mobile me syncing.
Joe said he was going to pass my case onto engineering, and they should address this issue further / post and knowledge base article about the problem.
I hope this helps others! Good luck.

  • Problems with your internet connection after upgrading to iOS 7.1.2

After upgrading to iOS 7.1.2 on my iPad Retina display does not connect to the internet more. Recognizes the Wi-Fi network but can not connect to the internet. The same thing happened to my wife's iPhone 5s, while my had no problems ...

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at
    http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Problems with Apple Address Book Sync after upgrading BBDesktop s/w. Also, no more Rogers support - abandoned customer

I just upgraded my BB Desktop Software but now have a sync error - details show that over 800 entries need to be synced.
When I look at 'details', the 'before' shows a phone number field called "Main Fax" the 'after' shows a phone number field called "Other", with the same phone number targeted.
There are a handful of other syncs such as address blank in 'before' and completed in 'after.  I found these by just scrolling down the list with my down arrow and scanning the 'before' entries as they flew by.
There seems to be no way for me to manually choose which of the 'before' and 'after' I'd like to have.
Worst of all, I called Rogers for sync support, as I have done for years.  Guess what? They've stopped supporting anything but their actual network connections, but didn't bother to tell their customers.  There I was in a 'user down' situation, late for an appointment (missed it totally thanks to this), and they were telling me the most they can do is send an e-mail. or have me *pay* for the support that used to be free, selling me a 'premium support' package. Yikes!
So I clicked 'sync later' on the address book, and am looking for help before I try another sync tomorrow.
For example, ideas to help me manually over-ride the data field mapping from 'Main Fax' to 'Fax' in Blackberry Desktop Software.
Anyone have any ideas?  Much appreciated!
I live in Canada, by the way, so if you are a Rogers customer in Canada, take note of their change in support.
Thank God I did  a backup before I upgraded my Blackberry Desktop Software.

  • Book gone after upgrading Aperture to 3.5.1

I recently upgraded my Aperture version to 3.5.1.  In the process, it upgraded my library.  Immediately upon opening it back up, I noticed that the pictures and book that I had been working on have disappeared.  Unfortunately, I don't have any known backups.

Which version did you upgrade from? In the newer Aperture versions large sections of the library may be hidden. If you hover with the mouse to the right of the captions, "Books", "Projects", you can reveal hidden "Show/Hide" controls and collapse or disclose sections of your library.
Also check for filters in the searchfields - they should be showing "All items".
Immediately upon opening it back up, I noticed that the pictures and book that I had been working on have disappeared.
Are all your other images and library items there? If many newer items are missing, Aperture may have opened an older library and not your current library or created a new library. This can happen, if your library is on a drive, that Aperture cannnot access because of an incompatible file system. Where is your Aperture library located?

  • Can't Print or Scan from your OfficeJet Pro after Upgrading from your Win 8 to 8.1?

Are you having problems when attempting to print or scan from Windows 8.1 after printing/scanning successfully prior to upgrading to 8.1?  Uninstall/Re-install.  With this, I might suggest going to your product page on HP.com (sample link posted below) and then hover over "TROUBLESHOOTING" in the top menu and choose "HOW TO" from the drop-down menu.  Click on "Install / Uninstall" link to take you to a document that will walk through the uninstall process.  When that is complete, then click the "DRIVERS" menu on the same product page.  Select the correct Microsoft Windows 8.1 version (either 32 or 64 bit) and then download and install the latest driver.  Good Luck!

  • Address Book crashing after upgrade to 10.7.2

Haven't been able to find anyone else experiencing this problem.
Since I updated to 10.7.2 Address Book hangs and closes about a minute after opening.
It doesn't seem to make a difference what action I am performing, if any.
I have tried deleting preference files. Still crashing.
Backed up all my contacts, deleted all the AB data, and started from scratch. Still crashing.
My main issue with this is that I'm trying to get my contacts syncing to iCloud.
No other issues with 10.7.2 update. All other iCloud services are working.
    Any ideas appreciated!

jamesfromns - Not sure what looking for duplicates would do for me since I have no duplicates. I backed up my contacts and am trying to get this to work with a fresh address book with a few test contacts.
EasyOSX - I had repaired permissions before I read your response, with no effect. So I tried reapplying the 10.7.2 update, and still no change.
When looking in Address Book preferences only the local account is shown. I can't add the iCloud account because is freezes and crashes before I can finish.

  • I can't turn on my Mac Book Air after upgrade the Lion software. Please, can you help me?

I bought a Mac Book Air 3 month ago. I upgrade Lion software several hours ago. Later I reboot and I left to work. When I arrive, I can't turn on my MAC. Only light up the capital letter light, all the other parts are
dead o seem to be. Can you tell me what I have to do to solve the problem, please?

We can't, but Apple can, contact customer service, have your serial number ready and for a small fee Apple will send you a replacement.
If you're in a hurry, go to the Apple Store and purchase a copy of OSX ($29 in the US)

  • Lost most address book entries after upgrading to S.L.

    Hi Everyone,
I upgraded my machine from Tiger to Snow Leopard and consequently lost most of the addresses in my address book. I had about 300 or so; now I have 68. This is particularly bad timing since we're in the holidays...
I have a backed up version of the address book (on an external disk that still has the backup of my old system), but I'm not able to open it in Snow Leopard. Suggestions? This is quite frustrating.

The metadata folder has the same number of items as the current address book (68). The other contents of the .../application support/address book file are:
    ABPerson.skIndexInverted
    ABSubscribedPerson.skIndexInverted
    AddressBook-v22.abcddb
    AddressBook.data
    AddressBook.data.previous
    Configuration.plist
    Images folder
    lastImport.plist
    MailRecents-v4.abcdmr
    Metadata folder
Hmmm... Is the "AddressBook.data.previous" relevant here?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Mail and address book crash after upgrade

I just upgraded from 10.4.11 to 10.5.5. My mail and address book apps do not load now. Both get the spinning circle and "application not responding". This is about the 3rd or 4th problem since upgrading to 10.5. Anyone have any solutions so I can get those apps to launch correctly?

Fixed it. Created a new account, put my exchange mail on Mail on that account, sync Address Book with server, took the Sources folder and moved it to Address Book in Application Support onmy main account and now all work great. A lot of work but is now working. Thanks to all!
