Checking for Broken Links

Is there a solution out there for checking broken links in a content area in Oracle Portal?

I think a third party products will check broken links by identifying links which return a 404 error.
Portal (at least 3.0.6.6.5) does not respond with 404 but gives WWC-46000. I doubt a third-party product will recognise this as a broken link.
Analyzing apaches log files is of no use either. The error log gives no entries, the access log shows apache has responded the request with HTTP-200 , which is correct if you see the problem from Apache. Apache does a request to modplsql, a page is returned, and Apache passes it on.
The problem becomes somewhat more complicated if you consider access rights to folders. A link can be OK for userA, but can be broken for userB.

  • How to check for broken links on my remote site?

How can I check for broken links on my _remote_ site using DW10 (i.e. DWCS4)?
I know of the Link Checker tab so as to check the local site.
I've been using the app Integrity to do this, but it would be convenient to be able to also do this in DW.
    Running OS X 10.8.2.
    Thanks for any advice.
    Ron

Over the years I've had both happen.
I'm not saying this happens often... it doesn't... but it does happen.
And this is with my site links working fine locally.
So it is either happening on upload or on the servers.
I can't tell you the number of times I've asked webhosts (I've had many) why a site is not working at all... and they have told me that they are either doing work on their servers or that they're 'upgrading' and moving my sites to another server. So perhaps this is part of the problem.
Again... rarely happens but it does happen.

  • Deleting songs and scanning for broken links.

I've encountered a couple weird problems today. I've read through every area of the preferences, right-clicked everywhere I can think of in the iTunes window to see what pops up in those menus, and can't find the solutions to my problems.
    1) It used to be that when I tried to delete a song from iTunes, it would ask if I wanted to delete it from the PC. It doesn't do this anymore, but I really wish it did. Is there a way for me to delete something from my iTunes library AND my PC with one action?
    2) Since I could not delete songs through iTunes, I went straight to where my music files reside and deleted them that way. I know iTunes can scan the library for broken links and stuff -- it's done it before, though I don't know what triggered it. How can I make it scan my list for broken links and remove them? I deleted something like 300 songs -- that's a lot of links to delete individually.
I'm not computer illiterate. I've right-clicked everywhere, gone through all the menus and the preferences menu and still can't figure out how to get iTunes to do these basic functions. It's really frustrating because I know it's done them before. Please help.

open itunes, right click on the song you want to delete, click clear.. and why are we not allowed to give you a link. This is FREE help, and any link could have told you told you that.

  • Where is the "check for purchases" link in the store menu?

I purchased music, and it shows up in my purchase history, but it didn't download. iTunes support told me to click the "check for purchases" link in the store menu, but for some reason (maybe I'm blind), I can't find it anywhere--can someone please tell me exactly where to look on the page? Thanks!

I opened my eyes, and lo and behold, there it was, on the top of the screen the store MENU, not the iTunes store page. Duh.

  • Search for broken links to images

Is there an efficient way to search for broken links to
    images?

    Hi there
I'm not sure if you are meaning to ask about links inside
topics that point to images that you are popping up or linking to
outright or if instead, you mean that some of the images that are
supposed to be displayed inside topics are maybe missing and you
    wish to know about them.
One easy way to spot a missing image reference is by using
the Project Manager. Not sure if you are using RoboHelp 7, 8 or
older here, but if on 7 or 8 look in the Project Manager pod.
Otherwise it will be found on the left panel of the application.
Expand the Images pseudo folder and quickly scan the list of images
and expand sub folders inside. Any missing image should be listed
with a red x to indicate the status. You may then examine the image
properties to see which topic(s) is/are still referencing it.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Using Reference Mode and checking for broken alias links

I use iPhoto 09 in reference mode (where it doesn't import the pictures into the library). I'm aware of the pitfalls of doing this but, long story-short, it's better for my needs this way. I just wanted to know if there's a way to tell iPhoto to check for missing photos or broken alias links. It seems to just pop-up randomly some time after moving or deleting anything and I'd rather take care of business when it's convenient for me not for iPhoto. I don't move my pictures very often but when I do I want to be able to re-link them immediately and not wait for iPhoto to randomly ask me and then I don't know what album or date the picture is from that its asking me about. Thanks in advance!

I thought you were aware of the pitfalls of running a Referenced Library One of which is that if you move the files iPhoto will lose track of them.
Unfortunately, iPhoto has no mechanism for checking the integrity of the links - another reason I would not use iPhoto in Referenced Mode.
You could try use an app like [FileBuddy|http://www.skytag.com> to check and repair broken aliases. However, if you continue to manage your files without reference to iPhoto then you will continue to have problems.

  • Do I need check for "broken packets" ?

    Hi all,
I'm writing an application that uses sockets in java (j2me CDC Profile) that communicates with a server that was written in Delphi.
This Delphi application has a loop for receiving packets and checks if all amount of data received reached the final packet size.
I believe that all that I need to do is something like this:
    while((charRead = bufReader.read()) > -1){
              strBuffer.append((char)charRead );
}I suppose that if there is some "interruption" in communication with sockets,
bufReader.read() will return -1 and I don't have to worry if server sent me packets with different sizes...
And btw, If someone with experience with sockets can explain or show me some path to learn more about sockets concepts to eliminate my doubts about it. What differences can I found in cases like this, I mean, differences between java and other languages when we talk about sockets.
I hope I could be clear in my explanation.
    Thanks for any help.

If your communication is done using TCP/IP there is no need to check for corrupted packets. You will get either all the data that was sent or an exception will be thrown. The data may come in several packets, but if you just read until you reach the end of file or a delimiter such as linefeed, you should be fine. If you wrap your InputStream in a BufferedReader you can read lines and the bytes will be converted to Strings for you.

  • Finding anchor frame for broken links to graphic

I have a document that when opening wants a new link to a graphic that has been deleted from the file. I have looked on the body pages, master pages, reference pages, everywhere I can think of to locate where the graphic the file is looking for could be located. Can anyone suggest additional places in file to look?
    Thanks

If the file isn't part of a book, make it one, then:
Add > List of > Figures
and you'll find out what page it's on (if LOF catalogs missing imports, which it may not).
You can also save as MIF and look in the MIF for the object name. You need to learn a little about MIF to decipher where that maps to in the document.
Import references can hide in all sorts of places, including but not limited to:
beyond edge of anchored frame (had 2 of those just today)
hidden behind an opaque something you can see
    conditional text currently turned off
text flowed out of sight on disconnected page
in plain sight, but hidden by Color Views
Worst case scenario: create a 1x1 pixel white object and give it the name of the rogue.

  • Orphans and broken links

    Hi there,
When I run a check on my site, it lists items that were erased from my site long ago.  For example, my page once had a page of links which I since removed from my site and deleted from my computer.  When I run the site check, the links from the page (eg.  http://johndoe.com) show up as orphans.  This happens in other ways as well in which things deleted or replaced still appear.  Is that something I'm doing wrong in terms of removing things from DW?  Any issues with them still appearing?  When I delete them (through the checker) then run the check, they appear again.
This is also true for broken links...it says links are broken on a page that no longer has the link it says is broken?
I'm pretty new with this, any advice is appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Tom

  • PDF Open Parameters reported as broken links

I use the PDF Open Parameters in order to link to specific
    pages/locations in PDF documents:
    e.g. <a href="
    http://www.site.com/pdffile.pdf#nameddest=signup">pdffile</a>
However these always get reported as broken link within
Dreamweaver (CS3) and as broken anchors when I run other link or
page quality scans against the site.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so is it normal
behaviour? If this is an agreed standard then I would have expected
it to be recognised as a valid link/anchor.

It's expected behavior in DW. Since you're referencing a full
    URL, DW can't
see that when testing for broken links within a locally
    defined site. Due to
Adobe's and MS unwillingness to communicate...you're stuck
    with this
approach until the path issues get resolved.

  • Check for updates - no response

In the last few days I notice that when I click on the "Check for updates" link on the applications tab in iTunes that it will say "accessing itunes store" and then instead of saying updates are or aren't available, it gives me no answer at all, and I have to retry, sometimes multiple times. Anyone else having this problem? Seems to me like an ITMS problem, and not a local problem for me.

Its not just limited to the app store via itunes either.
using the remote app on my phone its sometimes very slow to check for updates , its worse in the evening but its nowhere near as fast as it should be , even over wifi.
It was fine till the start of last weekend ( 19 th ) but since then its been a bit ropey )
So its not a local issue there must be a fault with it somewhere

  • Link checker does not seem to see some broken links-why?

    Hi,
I have a problem with the link checker, it does not seem to report some broken links. Here is the context in which it happens.
My site root folder contains (subset) :
    index.php
    Templates/child_userarea.dwt
    user-area/downloads.html
(The file downloads.html is based on child_userarea.dwt.)
    In the template, I have <a href="../../index.php" title="Home page">Home</a>.
    In downloads.html, this link appears as <a href="file:///M|/Website/index.php" title="Home page">Home</a>.
According to this post http://forums.adobe.com/message/934203#934203 by Murray, this is because Dreamweaver (CS4 in my case) thinks that index.php is outside the site root folder. I understand it thinks so because indeed ../../index.php points to the folder parent of the root folder. What I don't get is why doesn't the link checker report that ../../index.php does not exist? (And I'm sure it doesn't, there is no file called index.php outside the root folder.)
    Emilie

That's the thing, it is correct! I have checked many times. Here is what is says:
    and M:\Website\CERC15\ does exist.
For the time being, I have corrected the paths in the template, so for that particular file, it is now ok. However, I have no idea whether other paths are wrong since I am not sure any longer whether they are spotted by the link checker. I searched for other instances of file:///M|/Website and there is none left.
I suspect this is just one more problem due to another problem non-identified so far (see e.g.http://forums.adobe.com/thread/506149?tstart=30). Since I renamed a big batch of files, I have had problems after problems: the templates disappearing (see that other post); I also lost all the files in 4 other folders (files for download linked to the pages through <a> tags); and Dreamweaver has become particularly slow (but this seems to have been fixed with erasing the cache and the personal preferences).
I'd like to start from scratch again (and why not reinstall Dreamweaver), but I don't know how to recreate the site from zero without loosing anything (e.g. links to templates).

  • Check broken links in Adobe Acrobat

    Hey everybody,
I am searching for a Plugin for Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Professional, which check brocken links in a pdf-document and create a report with all brocken links. Here I mean links like www.microsoft.com. A broken link link is www.12nmu8098.com . The report must conclud the broken link and the number of broken links in the document.
    Best regards
    hallodu1889

Thanks for your answer. I tested this plugin but it functioned not correctly. Normaly the result of the test of www.rez2828zdhs.com must show, that it is a broken link. The report of this plugin shows that this is a correct link. Do you you know an other plugin?

  • Dreamweaver 8 - Problematic Broken Link Check

On a regular basis I use Dreamweaver 8's broken link checker
    to convert
relative links to absolute throughout single HTML files.
Once upon a time, I could use the results pane to quickly
    replace all
of the broken links. Ever since installing Dreamweaver 8
    (upgraded from
MX) I've had the following problem with the link checker:
    1. It seems to find all of the broken links correctly,
    however, when I
try to change them into absolute, it doesn't actually make
    the changes.
    2. Sometimes it even makes incorrect changes to the path of
    the link,
such as changing the image link to a .html link randomly (I
    have no
    idea how this happens!)
    3. When it asks if I'd like to replace the other references
    to the same
file, and I respond yes, it does nothing.
After researching this topic somewhat, I have found temporary
    solution,
but it's driving me crazy and I'm looking for a long-term
    resolution
    for this issue.
If I delete my WinFileCache-xxxxxx.dat file (under User >
    Application
    Data > Macromedia > Dreamweaver 8 > Configuration)
    before opening
Dreamweaver, the problem is resolved until the end of that
    specific
session. As soon as I close Dreamweaver and reopen it, the
    problem
    returns.
I understand that by deleting the WinFileCache file I am
    basically
starting with a clean slate, which is why this method is
    temporarily
effective. However, this is a daily problem for me and I'm
    sick of
having to do it every single time I use the program....
SO...if any of you have any thoughts, suggestions, or similar
complaints, please share - I'm desperate to find a long-term
    solution!
    Thanks!

Give me an example of what it finds and what you want to

The real question is - why are you regularly getting broken
    links? The only
reason I can think of is that your local site is actually on
    a remote,
shared network drive, and there is intermittant connectivity
    to it due to
some recurring network anomaly. Can you tell me how your site
    is defined?
