Checking Hard Reset when TX screen not working

I recently spilled water on my TX and have lost the screen display. I want to send it for repair but am concerned about my data. As the screen is Download Freeware not working I have no check that the hard reset process runs successfully.
Could anyone offer advice / reassurance regarding the security of my data? If I haven't wiped my data does my logon password still offer protection in the repair environment?

Yes it will.
If you have setup a screen lock with a password, your data will be secure. The only way to remove the screen lock, if you don't know the password, is to hard reset. If the TX is sent for repair and the display issue is resolved, the TX will be hard reset which will erase all your info. There is no way to access the TX without the login credentials.
The hard reset will reformat the memory on your device. All data, settings and other preferences you've selected will be removed.

  • I have an older nano (4th gen?) and it will not shut off and when you try to skip through songs it skips itself back.  Buttons seem to be pushing themselves. I've tried doing a hard reset and it did not work.

    My older nano is not working.  I have to keep it plugged in all the time because it does not shut off.  The buttons only work sometimes and then they scroll and skip forward and backward by themselves.  I have checked updates and I have also reset it back to factory and it is not working.

  • Loss of sound (Hard-reset and restore does not work)

    Hi,
    I loss all sounds on my iPad 2 (currently on iOS 7.04). This is the 2nd time I have had this issue (had it with an earlier iPad) and had to replace the previous one (out of warranty period).  Very frustrating as it is about the same time period after purchase.  Last time, it seemed like a repeated fault with the iPad and I cannot believe I have the same issue again on a different product.  It is an expensive way of having to re-buy every couple of years for no other reason.
    It did not happen immediately after an update i.e. it does not appear to be "update" or iOS version-related. 
    Anyone got any advice please?  The facts are as follows (and what I have tried).
    When it happened?
    I was in iMovie editing a movie when all sound went from the speaker.  It continued to work with earphones plugged in, but this is now intermittent.  I have no sound on the speaker at all except for when I click sounds on the menu and change the level of ringer alert (which works on the speakers).  This seems to tell me that it is a software problem.  I have no sound on any applications or internet video or music from iTunes.  I cannot survive on the earphones as they only work for a period of time and then they fail (until I take the jack out again when it works again for a period of time before the headphones fail again).
    What have I tried?
    a) Numerous hard resets
    b) changing the side switch's position
    c) changing in general settings the side switch settings from lock rotation to mute and back again (repeatedly and in reverse to see if it makes any difference)
    d) resetting all settings - this made no difference
    e) erase all content and settings - interestingly at the stage when it asked me if I wanted to restore from an iCloud account, it was making sounds (the keyboard clicks - which don't make a sound irrespective of the click setting currently) i.e. appeared to have resolved the issue and as soon as I restored my iCloud back-up, the sound went again.
    I would be grateful for any suggestions.  This post also includes a recommendation to Apple on improving its product (relating to iCloud backups) as the ultimate solution should not be paying for a replacement for a software issue (to avoid losing all my data permanently).
    My musings are that:
    a) it is definitively a software issue (on account that the speakers work in certain situations only)
    b) it appears to be that the software is corrupted in my iCloud back up
    c) it is an issue that happens regularly and is an avoidable issue/cost to Apple's customers that needs to receive higher priority in being addressed as it is built in redundancy for a significant proportion of customers.  At the very least, iCloud backups should be capable of being restored in part - is there any way this could be done so we don't lose all of our notes, media etc if the final advice is to "start again".  How can it be right to lose all content because of an Apple system software issue?  I am pre-guessing this will be the final advice (if I don't want to pay for a replacement iPad)?
    Please help me and all those others with the same avoidable software problem.

    This is an iPad user to user forum, so you are not addressing Apple.
    Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
    Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
    If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

    First of all, some advice.  Don't.  Just don't.  It is very bad form to change someone's screen resolution. It is super annoying when your program crashes and fails to bring the normal resolution back... which then messes up all the desktop icons and other system settings.  Also, you have no idea what kind of monitor people have.  In the old days, it was usually a choice between 640x480, and 1024x768 or something.  Now there are loads of options, with different width-to-height ratios (widescreen), some HD capable, some not, some LCD monitors (like mine) which will ONLY work at one specific resolution.  If I ran your program and it tried to change my screen res, it would probably just go black and I would be pissed.  Widescreen monitors will stretch your image if you set it to the wrong width.  And that is only the tip of the iceberg.  Things get even more complicated for folks (like myself) who have multiple monitors hooked up. 
    Just.  Don't.
    But that said, in an attempt to actually answer your question, the "temp" option is not what you think.  It will change it until the computer is rebooted, at which point it <should> go back to the original.  If you want to change the resolution back to the original yourself, do so in a stopMovie handler.

  • My TC was working good until I unplugged it,and when I tried to plug it in again there was no light at all but I can still hear and feel that it does have power,I did do soft and hard reset but it's not working?any ideas?!

    Unfortunately, you are likely describing an internal power supply issue on the TC.
    The power supply has enough power to start up the hard drive.....that is the sound that you hear....but it is having problems starting up the router portion of the TC.
    Try powering off the Time Capsule for 30 minutes or so, then try the start up again.
    If you have the same issue, unfortunately the TC will likely need to be replaced since Apple does not offer repairs on Time Capsules.
    If the TC is in warranty, take it to an Apple Store to let them have a look or contact Apple Support directly....Contact Apple for support and service
    If the TC is out of warranty, but you have AppleCare in effect on one of your Macs, the TC might be covered as well. The rules are complex, so discuss with Apple.
    If you can locate the model number on the bottom of the TC......starts with an "A" followed by four numbers......we may be able to provide a bit more info.

    Yes.
    Memtest X or Rember to test the RAM.
    Reseat is also good.
    The iPhone 4 doesn't like USB 1.1 much.
    after the update the computer was working well, except for this freeze when ever I connect iPhone.
    I'd try USB 2.0 PCI. That's how I connect my iPhone 4s, and have connected all iPhones and iPods, to my G4.
    Never an issue.
    Can't say the same for USB 1.1.......

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
    Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
    Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
    All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

    I have the same issue on my Ipad Air.  Screen will not rotate, I have reset the settings, still only displays in the portrait mode.  A couple of interesting things though.  a couple of days before it completely locked up into portrait I would have to turn the ipad off and hold it in the orientation I wanted because it would not change orientation after I was in an app.
    Also, I just played a Netflix video and it was in landscape mode.
    Any ideas?

    Hello, I'm having an issue with a LaserJet Pr0 200 color MFP M276nw Touch Screen not Working correctly. I have followed the instructions to reset the printer, but now am unable to select 'English' as my language because every time I select the 'English' option 'Spanish' is selected. I am then given two options to select 'Si' or 'No' both of which can not be selected on the touch screen?
    Anybody know of a way round this?

    I see that you are having issues with the touch screen not working correctly. I will do my best to help you.
    Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector) This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
    Was it the Nvram reset back to factory settings that you tried or a hard reset?
    Try selecting the option on the display a little higher above the icon to see if that helps. Some touch screens are finicky.
    I find that on the Lab printers when I am selecting different menus.
